One feeling I’d never thought I’d experience is the violent rage that flows through me whenever I see a shitty take on Dionysos. I’m not talking takes I disagree with or interpret differently (this is a religious storytelling with no set canon ffs. I can handle people coming to a different conclusion especially considering that I’m neither a scholar or actually connected to the culture these stories come from, I just deeply appreciate them) I’m talking like. Absolute garbage takes. Ones that ignore even the most common sources to reduce him to the bare minimum of his domain. These are the takes I would see in kindergarten when I started learning about this stuff. He has so many cool elements like his cunning, being a foreigner in his own homeland, his ties to humanity, effeminacy, falling between life and death. fucking liberation. But nah. He’s a silly drunk guy. Sure. Why not.

I'm watching Ethan's video about the dead internet theory, but there's more topics brought up, not just robots surrounding us.

this is the video.

he points out an important thing, which is that...it's pain to come online now. back then, we fled to the internet from the real world, to have some rest. now it's an endless circle, because both online and offline sucks.

if you're not surrounded by bot comments and spam, then you get endless hate and complaining. harassment, because you made a video, or an artwork. and people indeed don't make stuff only lead by passion. it's either for the likes, or for the money.

and what I also notice, is that they just stopped communicating altogether. people don't make friends anymore, unless they have advantage from it...

as for fandom stuff.

I've also come across some basic internet rules actually put into words, from the time of 2008, here.

I'm not sure how all of us knew these rules, but we knew them. already as kids. so this just proves that you definitely CAN learn and keep such rules, which are made FOR YOU. and today's people just...cannot keep the first one, which is "dislike, block"...

about statement summaries:

i just realized that when elias does his Apologies for the Deception™ thing, jon begins the statement with a "summary" about hannah's "fire in her childhood home" or something. i know in drawings there's a statement summary at the top of each statement paper, but i thought canonically the archivist just knew what it was going to be about beforehand because he's magical

although there is more evidence toward that (his supposed possession of foresight) not being true since whenever he takes one in person he has to ask them what it's about. but i cant quite shake the feeling that i distinctly recall it being said at some point (by elias i think) that jon just knows instinctively what a statement is gonna be about or something like that

also in mag 1 doesnt it say most of the statements are loose and handwritten with no attached research or information except the date and statement giver? or am i going crazy and there's canonically a written summary

U,MMM,MMM,M good question cause Idek. for ford hes transmasculine to Me and gay. definitely somewhwre on the aroace spectrum but my thoughts on that are Way too complicated for a simple hc ask im not going to forcefully subject everyone to my ford and romance rant. and he hasSomething going on with his gender but he has to kill bill cipher so he drc ab That rn. ummm. fiddleford is also trans trust me here. and bisexual. uhhhh beyond that my hcs get fuzzy and incoherent and change every 2 seconds big big Fan of transfeminine stan hcs . really to me the pines family is bisexual except for gay ford nods my head yiu understand this all my words are not nonsensical and i am Not in fact having trouble conveying things

I’ve been thinking about the statement summaries. In mag 147 Annabelle says this: “I know the summaries have started to confuse you. Where do they come from when you read a statement afresh? How do you just sort of know what it’s about before you even start to read it?”

I’ve seen most people interpret this as the summaries always came from the Eye but the way I interpret it is that in the beginning, probably through season 1 and 2, the summaries came from the archives crew working on the statements beforehand. The tape recorder never clicks between the main statement and the follow up so I’ve always assumed that they have read them before and done the research before Jon records them. It’s not until later that Jon starts being unable to read them without recording. I think it’s not until season 3 that Jon starts to just Know what they’re about.

In mag 86 both Tim and Melanie try to record the same statement. And it’s obvious there’s no written summary.

Neither of them have read this statement before. Tim skims through the pages and picks up some key words “blanket. Dead friend” and then makes up his own based on how pretty much all the statements are. I don’t think he knew Benjamin met an “unavoidable and gruesome end”. I think he assumed it cause he’s depressed and hopeless and doesn’t care anymore.

Melanie gives up on trying to make a summary and comes up with the general and very vague “a strange encounter”. (She also clearly hadn’t read it before cause when doing the post statement bit it’s clear she’s looking through the file and the research Martin’s done)

Basira reads a statement in mag 112 and does actually give an accurate summary but she also was clearly familiar with the statement as she gives the follow up (and was also familiar with the case beforehand)

Meanwhile Jon continues to give accurate summaries even when he doesn’t have assistants looking into the statement and crucially in mag 107 when he gets a statement from Elias in America he summarizes it perfectly and he definitely hasn’t had time to look over it before.

So I think Jon started Knowing what the statements were about in s3. I don’t know if there’s really anything that important to take away from this I just find it interesting.

Reading all these old posts where people are desperately trying to piece v3's plot together through 5 benevolent people in the fandom willing to translate, screenshots, livestreams, and a mad game of telephone makes me feel CRAZY. I so desperately wish I could time travel and explain it all to everyone. And also make them wait for the damn game to come out in a language they can understand before they form opinions on the twists of the game.

yesterday i remembered they posted a sneak peek of ichiro’s page in the next guidebook and since i was feeling kinda insane then, i decided to compare ichiro’s about summaries and it looks like it’s changed a little bit!!!!

the old summary talked about his compassion and sense of justice, him looking after his bros and his rivalry with samatoki but in this new one, it looks like they’ve replaced that info with stuff about rei and true hypnosis mic!!!!!!
