YESSSHHHHW favorite artists are lucki, yeat and carti bc i’m nothing if not basic but also wanted to include song recs split into 3 different subgenres i listen to the most but there’s a lot of overlap between all of them but generally hyperplugg is going to faster paced, dmv flow isn’t a subgenre but a type of flow n which the artist is rapping intentionally late on the beat, and then dreamy/emo is going to be slower paced tried to include some classics too enjoyyy <3

How would you introduce yourself to those who don’t know you?

…So the name is 1xsimon [One-Time-Simon].. some people call me 1-X Simon, that’s fine. As long as you’re calling me Simon.. that’s all I care about..

So with this name is their any affiliation with Babyxsosa?

Their really isn’t.. I remember someone asked me about, referring the X to Ken Carson, cause he’s big Teen X but you know by all means it wasn’t really in mind when I came up with the name. I just really wanted something short and sweet, 1 X Simon = Simon, so we’re just gonna be Simon at the end of the day.

What are some of your influences?

When it comes to influences, I’m really into experimental sounds. So a lot of people that have been pushing that boundary when it comes to experimental sounds to me are artists like Bear1Boss. That’s a very different type of artist, lots of different flows.. I gotta give my flowers to Iayze, one of the big ones i’ve been listening to a lot lately. But then again, i’m always having my ear out you know.. Summrs, gotta give him his flowers, that’s the pioneer and definitely Duwap Kaine. I’ve been cranking a lot of Duwap he just dropped an album, but yeah a lot of artists.. there’s so much more…

Tell us about your newest music video

The song is called, That Time of the Year, really in the moment. I was feeling like it was that time of the year not gonna lie. When it came to filming the music video my videographer GOOEY, he actually gave me the idea to one take it and one thing about us when we work we tend to really just bounce a lot of creative ideas off each other and test the flow so smooth and easy. So it’s really not a problem when it comes to the creative process. But yeah we were in Georgetown[DC] at the time, if we’re discussing location, but we just one took it and that was it.. one time Simon for real! That’s all I’m gonna say..

Can you tell us more about the actual track and what went into making it?

..I was really just punching in, for real. Shoutout Rubbish the producer, he let me get the beat for free. I didn’t even have to buy it or buy a lease for it and that just motivated me even more to go crazy on it the way I did. A lot of different flows on it.. Really just made it in one night..

Wait, so that was a one night track?

That was a one night..track. That was a calm night you know what I’m saying. That was a quick little duration of time, did not really take me too much time.

So, you’re telling me this was a 1xsimon, one take, one night track?

That’s really how it went I’m not gonna lie… I really just slid on that, you know what I’m sayin? Easy peezy, their was really not that much too it, it was that time of the year! Something about 2023 as a whole, if we’re really talking, it just felt[feels] like that year for me. I’m having good thoughts for this year, so I felt like it was really that time of the year.. this is the one to really turn sh*t up you know?

Speaking of 2023, can you let us in on any of your upcoming plans, can we get any insight?

..I’m a man of very little words, I just need y’all to know that it’s coming! A lot of things are coming along, not too much that I know I can say just yet. A lot of things are moving, things are getting planned out, but when they do coordinate correctly it’s all gonna line up, it’s gonna be nice. I just hope everyone’s in tune and I don’t think they know what’s gonna hit them… what a weird feeling that is…
