🍓 What’s a fic you’ve written you feel is underrated?

More fruit asks! Yay! Okay, I'll try to stick with multi-chapter works but here's the 3 fics I feel like are underrated and my reasoning:

Home- It's a gen fic so naturally it gets less traffic, but I was really proud of my Thorin in it and definitely feel it is worth a try if you haven't read it yet.

Beneath the Oak Tree- Childhood friends to lovers doesn't do well anyways, but I love this fic so much with its cute opener with young Thorin and Bilbo to the more angsty side of it.

A Story of Home- Once again, I know modern AUs aren't everyone's cup of tea, but this was such a fun project thanks to @fantasyinallforms' prompt and I really wish it had more interaction than it does.

Okay I'm glad I waited until today because I've had a really good day! I managed to get my school involved in a new pilot program that's going to help students achieve more in math!

Could you tell us more abt ur au where Apollo doesn’t come back exactly right after surviving being so close to chaos 👀

Yes!! Actually I had a fic that I really wanted to write about this, and I am planning on still doing that but I will tell y'all the gist of it bc I cannot contain myself. (Also this is a bit different from some of the things I've said before about this so I hope you still like it lol)

Ok so, the fic was gonna be a 5 + 1 fic, where Meg and Apollo both realize that something's ... off about him after the trials. His powers and abilities are fluctuating for seemingly no reason. Sometimes he's just a normal god, but sometimes it's like he's still a mortal. And he's also having times where he's way stronger than a god should be, like, near primordial levels. It's causing him a lot of issues, for example:

Gods don't need to eat or sleep, but mortals do. If Apollo doesn't realize his energy levels are going down, he will just end up crashing from lack of food/sleep. This leaves him perpetually exhausted and shaky.

His blood is now all kinds of crazy colors, and it changes based off of where he is on the mortal/immortal scale.

When he's in a "mortal" state of being, he's pretty similar to a demigod. Meg and Apollo learned this when Apollo accidentally did some lightning bending one day. This is not something Apollo has ever wanted to be able to do, and he freaks out appropriately.

One day, Apollo woke up sick and tired of this whole situation. He jokingly wished that someone else could just take over the sun for the day. However, Apollo hadn't realized that he had just gotten a huge power boost overnight, and his harmless little wish just created a second sun. Haha whoops.

Eventually, Apollo ends up breaking his father's rules and visiting Asclepius just so he can get some answers about this, so here's a little rough comic based on the scene I wanted to write explaining this whole mess.

My Goals for 2024

Word Count- I’ve been sitting at only 180K for the past two years, but I’ve got a new system, I’m feeling better mentally, I think this is the year I hit 200K. Also I would love to have a month where I pump out 30K happen this year.

Existing WIPs- Everything is going to get an update this year. However, (as stated in the polls I put out earlier this month) Ambassador to Madness, Just to See You Happy, and The Twelve Transformations of Bilbo Baggins are going to be my primary fics this year.

New WIPs- I have so many fics I would love to unveil! But I have to finish some of my existing ones up first. So there’s only 2 that are definitely being released this year: “From the Pieces of Your Shattered Memories�� in May and “Beneath the Oak Tree” in July. I have teased both of these fics before so they should sound familiar.

Events- Three events I was in this year that I definitely am going to do next year are: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Collaboration, Fandom Trumps Hate, and Year of Bagginshield. If another catches my interest and it’s at the right time, I may take it on, but honestly these have been more than enough for me.

What are three writing goals you've set for yourself for 2024?

Hi! Hope it's not a bother, but do you have any comics you would recommend featuring the supers in smallville? The dc wikis are turning out to be more confusing than helpful for me I'm afraid.

off the top of my head i mostly have kon recs, which would be superboy '94 #8 (his first meeting with the kents), which is part of the zero hour event. then also superman vol 2 #155, and superboy '94 #92!

i would ALSO rec the entirety of the superman parts of the "our worlds at war" event because while a lot of the action isn't in smallville, ma is a significant player, and clark's worry about her and pa informs what's going on with him in sb94 #92. also it's just a really good event, and the parts that are in smallville are really. ough.

then finally i'd say adventure comics '09 and superboy 2011, which are both set in smallville and focus on kon living with ma after his resurrection <3

(superboy '94 #100 is when he first moves in with the kents officially, but that only really happens at the end + the arc leading up to it is a little infuriating, so while i do rec it in the sense of "it's important kontext for that period of kon's life" it will probably make you want to wring dan didio's neck. i also can't in good conscience rec any of the early tt03 era issues that deal with kon in smallville because frankly the character assassination is real :( geoff wanted pa to dislike kon for some reason (masculinity i guess? lmao) and its not good.)

(the exception to this is action comics #823, which has a villain who attacks the farm who CANT shut up about kon being pretty. like buddy i know youre supposed to be an incel but this is so funny i am not over it.)

but yeah!! if anyone's got the good good clark & smallville recs (i KNOW im forgetting some) please by all means chime in!!

Thorin notices Bilbo is starving -Whumptober

Thank you anon! Oof the hobbit starving on the quest whump. I hope I delivered!

Thorin watched Bilbo walk along the path with a sense of something being…off. He couldn’t quite place his finger on it, but he just looked wrong. It was entirely possible that Thorin spent too much time thinking about the hobbit. At first, it was because he was a liability. Extra baggage that he couldn’t rid himself of, yet he felt responsible for. Regardless of what he told the wizard that first night. However, as the hobbit slowly began to prove himself, Thorin found himself watching for other reasons. 

He watched for Bilbo’s smiles when he completed a task successfully. He watched for that twitch of his nose when he was told something that made him uncomfortable. He watched for the way he ran his hands down his waistcoat, feeling the missing buttons with a look of regret. Now Thorin was watching as he stumbled about on shaking legs. His eyes unfocused when he usually is so animated in whatever Bofur had to tell him. Thorin rushed forward for reasons he couldn’t quite understand and managed to catch the hobbit before he hit the ground in a dead faint.

He barked for Oin even as his ran his fingers over his neck, feeling for a pulse. His eyes did a quick scan. There were no markings, no bruising, no sign of an injury they missed. The old healer dropped down across from Thorin as he listened to his breathing, poking and prodding, pausing along his torso. He felt back down his sides again giving Thorin a sharp look.

“Help me get his shirt open.” He demanded.

Thorin rushed to do as the healer said, pulling the ridiculous layers aside as they unfastened the tiny buttons of his shirt front. When they finally pulled it away, all the dwarves recoiled from the sight. Thorin’s jaw was dropped, mortified by what they had revealed. The chubby and round center that he had at the beginning of the quest was gone. He was practically skin draped over bones as Thorin could quite nearly count each individual rib. It didn’t make any sense though. Yes, they had been tightening up on rations lately, but it shouldn’t have caused this dramatic of a change in physique. 

“Thorin, we need to make camp and we need to get food in him now.” Oin declared. “Nothing more than some broth starting off. He’ll get sick otherwise.”

Thorin nodded and the company quickly set to work on doing what they could to make Bilbo comfortable. When Bombur brought over the bowl, Thorin spooned the broth into his mouth himself unable to leave the hobbit’s side. It took a few coaxing bites before Bilbo was finally able to wake up.

“What happened?” He muttered.

“You’re starving.” Thorin stated plainly.

Bilbo winced, turning his head away.

“Why didn’t you say anything?” Thorin demanded.

“I did.” Bilbo complained. “You reminded me I would have to do without certain comforts like indulging in several meals a day.”

Something cold and ugly tightened around Thorin’s heart as he glared down at the hobbit.

“You didn’t say this would be the result?!”

“I was managing just fine!” Bilbo snapped back, lifting his head before a wave of dizziness hit that had him falling back into his bedroll.

Oin shot Thorin a look that basically said ‘don’t upset my patient’. Thorin rolled his eyes before continuing in a softer tone.

“Managing?”

“Yes.” Bilbo sniffed, eyeing the bowl beside them with longing. “I was picking nuts and edible plants alongside the road. It’s just gotten a bit more scarce lately.”

Thorin huffed having noticed the hobbit leaving the path and just thought he was getting lost or something.

“So why didn’t you say anything now?”

Bilbo shifted uncomfortably. “I didn’t want to…be a burden I suppose.”

“You’re not though.”

Bilbo scoffed and rolled his eyes, but Thorin gently moved his chin to face him again. 

“I was rather worried about you when you passed out. Don’t put me in that position again.”

The hobbit’s cheeks colored which Thorin took as a good sign. With a smirk, he held out the spoon for another bite, and Bilbo sipped it down after just a moment of hesitation. Oin came over after that to talk to Bilbo about his rehabilitation plan to get Bilbo healthy again, and Thorin watched him the whole time. Just another thing for him to take notice of the hobbit.

Is there any outfit you like Atreus to be drawn in and or how you mostly imagine him in your fics, what clothes and what attire?

Not the question you asked but I think I do actually like his canon start clothing the best. While the metal armor is practical and elegant in its own way, I like softer vibes. The gentle colors on him and how the fabrics look worn and loved and stitched over and over are so nice. As for what I like seeing Atreus drawn in? I don't know. Maybe nothing 😂 Maybe seeing him in his canon-type clothing more often would be cool- but then I think of all the cute ideas we keep seeing like Modern AU stuff like fun, colorful sweaters and shorts. Even if I don't particularly lean towards Modern AU stuff, it's always nice to see the variety. Or loose fabrics that he's been draped in are so nice and it's fun to see his freckles 🤭

Depends on the fics. Mischief and Foresight has him in his canon gear for the most part. A Hint of Magic is very much up to the imagination because of the vague descriptions given, though his newer outfits do come from the cloths Heimdall gives him. Any fics that take place in the canon universe I picture him in canon gear. In Your Toy, the Modern AU, I imagine colorful big sweaters in the cooler weather to show off his fun and more childish side, and regular jean-like shorts(blue or green) and still colorful baggy shirts slightly tucked in to whatever shorts or pants he's wearing. And maybe stuff he'd borrow from friends or Heimdall to play with.
