TLDR: soleil marcus moved to the states about nine years ago thanks to a nosy neighbor realizing her parents skipped town and had been ‘neglecting’ her. she lived with her stupidly rich aunt up until her move to sunset hills, ca. has a band called peachshift who she’d kill for.

soleil was born to cora dupont and jean marcus in lyon, france, and is the result of two teenagers who’d apparently missed the memo on birth control. neither sets of their parents were willing to house the new family, causing them to move out into their own one bedroom apartment.

she doesn’t remember her childhood, but from what she’s heard from aunt charlotte.. it was never pretty. neither her mother or her father knew what they were doing, and that was from an outsider’s perspective. the fact she doesn’t have a clear memory of a single moment of it makes it all the more worrying. what happened to her first twelve years of existence?

it doesn’t matter, that’s what she tells herself at least. what matters is that one day, soleil had accidentally locked herself out of her apartment. when a neighbor helped her get inside, curiosity of their seemingly reclusive neighbors turned into disgust and worry— she’d been left to fend for herself for months. 

if it weren’t for her aunt charlotte, soleil would surely have been pushed into the foster system. charlotte, a corporate bigwig in manhattan, managed to pull some strings and have soleil relocated to new york city to live with her. 

her first official memory was at the age of thirteen. it was the taste of champagne at the met, if that’s any indication of her upbringing following the move to the united states.

she didn’t like talking about france, and not just because she couldn’t remember it. soleil was always worried that talking about it would bring back memories of her childhood. and honestly, she doesn’t want to fucking know.

throughout her teen years is where she fell in love with music. listening, playing, and eventually writing her own songs. falling in love with the rush of a concert, and what it would be like to be the one on stage, to have people sing along to the words you’d written.

and off to sunset hills she went! she majors in music production, and even has a band called peachshift (would love some bandmates for soleil please and thank you), where she plays guitar and sings. they sound similar to mitski, the regrettes, & the beths.

she’s bright, bubbly and can be a little bit spoiled sometimes, but at the end of the day soleil’s a pretty loyal friend. just.. don’t expect her to open up too much about her personal life.

seraphina is the daughter of two immigrants. her father is english while her mother is haitian. they met in new york city where she’s originally from. being the eldest of three children, she’s basically been a part-time mother once she was old enough to watch her siblings.

if there were two things her parents valued it was an education & religion. in their eyes the only way to move up in society was through school and faith in god, so growing up seraphina went to a catholic school until she was in high school then she went to a public school. she isn’t religious at all. she believes in the christian god but also has a lot of interest/beliefs in other religions and spiritual practices. she’s a fake catholic.

she moved to california the summer before high school. it was a complete culture shock. it wasn’t even big things that affected her, it was the small nuances that made her feel out of place. her new york attitude didn’t clash well with her peers. 

the way she talked, dressed, and held herself made her seem like a threat. seraphina was everything but intimidating or conceited. she was a sweetheart, introverted, naive, and somewhat of a pushover since she came from such a strict environment. 

she spent her freshman and sophomore year in the shadows, mostly alone. she was always smart so she had acquaintances who often asked for help with assignments but that’s about all. never really had friends. she got picked on a few times, once even getting into a fight however, that treatment didn’t last for too long.

mid sophomore year seraphina became close friends with her science lab partner. through that, she joined student government which forced her to socialize more and start to fit into/have a role at her school. by the time she graduated high school, she was vice president of student government, one of four co-captains of the caribbean dance team, and valedictorian.

she was able to earn a full scholarship to shu as an undergrad. sera started out as a premed student however her gpa wasn’t high enough to get into the program so she changed her major to nursing her sophomore year. she graduated within the top five percent of her major. she decided to work for a year as a nicu nurse before going back to school for her masters. being a registered nurse, seraphina only worked roughly three days a week for 12 hours a day, so it was easy for her to be to have side hustles. she only stopped working when the semester started. she learned from past mistakes that it’s physically too much for her to work 2 jobs while in school. she’s currently trying to get her masters in nursing with the plan to become either a traveling nurse practitioner or simply a nicu nurse practitioner. 

sera’s been working at after hours as a bottle servicer & waitress, sometimes a bartender if they’re under staffed or busy since her freshman spring semester. seraphina loved a good party and she loved getting tipsy at work even more so. the only reason seraphina decided to work at a strip club was because she’d be damned if she didn't take advantage of misogamy while she was “young and hot.” she perfered the strip club in comparison to the actual club because sunset hills is a college town which means most people going to the clubs are broke students. at the strip club, the guests show up with the intent of spending money on girls which applies to the waitresses as well. she mostly works weekends when she’s managing two jobs but once she went back to school, after hours became her main job again.

sera is the type of student who sleeps in the middle of that day. she likes to have her classes in the morning. so even on work days she’ll do an overnight shift at the club, come to her room, shower, eat and then head to class. after class she would either hang with friends, do her school work or go home to have dinner and sleep before heading to work, this is the same routine now that she lives on dusk drive.  

she’s also the type to do everything last minute. there’s been a number of times where seraphina would be sitting in the backstage, doing her assignment because something’s almost due or just late. this is also her philosophy in life — she runs on black people / caribbean time

on her off days, she could be found doing someone’s hair, chilling in the middle of the courtyard, eating, singing, or dancing. she used to be more active in clubs when she started at shu but she realistically doesn’t have the time

seraphina often comes off a bit standoffish with a rbf but she genuinely isn’t mean unless shes provoked. in that case, she’ll drag the fuck outta you with no cares in the world. probably not physically because she’s very social and tends to know damn near everyone’s business.

BIOGRAPHY

jiya was born on march 4th (”the only day of the year that’s a complete sentence!”), 2001 at 3pm, gracing dr. tanvi patel and dr. imraan dhawan with their first and only child. both drs. were – and still are – proudly professors at sunset hills university, home of the manta rays. go rays!

growing up under two academics – her mother in agricultural studies specializing in sustainability and her father in world literature with a focus in poetry – was a challenge. a challenge jiya accepted with the same determination with which she lived her entire life.

there were plenty of good things to combat the stress of her parents’ expectations for her academic success. dressing up for their university dinner parties, where they had brilliant conversations unlike anything else she’d ever seen; where everyone begged her to follow her dreams.

at the end of the day, that was the thing she took from her parents and their friends most seriously. they had all achieved so many of their dreams, what could possibly hold jiya back from doing the same? that ambition lit a fire under her that couldn’t be put out.

it didn’t matter what happened. through her first breakups, bad news from her family, hard times at school, she never stopped going going going. art club, soccer, drama, piano lessons, summer camp... if there was something she wanted, she went for it.

despite how much of her life revolved around it (or maybe because of it), going to s.h.u. was the thing jiya worked hardest for. there was no way she was letting anyone think she got in because of her parents (even though she almost certainly did). all she wanted was to be a manta ray.

to absolutely no one’s surprise, jiya was the most enthusiastic freshman s.h.u. had seen in... maybe ever. no matter the sport being played, the play being put on, or the boredom at risk from going, jiya would be there with bells on; literal bells.

she generally lives by the motto “my studies can wait, what’s going on tonight?” it might not be her parents’ favorite philosophy, but she does have the record for most games attended by a single student and they are proud of that achievement. 

now that she’s more than halfway through her degree, people are starting to ask what she has planned for afterward. unrelated, she’s starting to realize she’s going to have to figure out who she wants to be outside of her love of sunset hills. or what she wants to do. pixar, maybe? illustrating children’s books, maybe? animating her own show, maybe? how are people supposed to figure this stuff out?

PERSONALITY

jiya is absolutely the self - appointed spirit master of sunset hills. she shows up to every game (for every sport) she can, completely decked out in face paint, pom-poms, and an outfit sure to inspire any manta ray to feel that good school pride. she may have a love / hate relationship with the person in the school mascot costume for unknown and probably stupid entirely justifiable reasons.

she is maximalist to the core and could not handle minimalism if she was paid to. everything in her room is done up to the nines with endless color, texture, lights, ambient white noise; the whole lot. her dorm looks like a macramé arts and crafts class blew up inside.

one thing jiya doesn’t take well is rejection. the last time she was broken up with, she threw all of the clothes her ex had left at her place out the window and announced it was “the defenestration of sunset hills”. she really is such a sweet girl, but that fear of rejection runs deep.

WANTED

roommate  –  babe is living in midnight park and i would love for her to have a roommate! she is probably the best and worst roommate you’ll ever have. there are baked goods and dumb jokes and themed drinking game movie nights... and 4am dance breaks when she’s procrastinated an important essay and has to finish by 8am.

study buddies  –  speaking of baked goods and essays! jiya definitely organized a study group her freshman year and still brings them muffins every wednesday for their standing study date. and it’s not at all because i love community or legally blonde. nope.

trivia team  –  a classic group of friends who show up to their favorite bar for trivia night every week. are they really just there for the bar snacks, drinks, and company? almost definitely. do they still take things a little too seriously and get overly competitive? ...also almost definitely.

tutoring friends  –  there are a handful of subjects jiya could tutor somebody in and another handle of subjects she could use some tutoring in, so it could go either way! or maybe their strengths and weaknesses line up and they help each other out? somebody’s gotta keep her on track!

high school sweetheart  –  jiya grew up in sunset hills and there’s no doubt in my mind she had a very sweet high school romance. she definitely would’ve been the cheerleader type that (unsurprisingly) showed up to all of their games or band’s practices or academic decathlons.

hi honeybees ! i’m phoebe ( aka pb to avoid confusion with character phoebe ) and i haven’t rped in a group in SEVERAL long months because of graduating c*llege. and dia’s a brand new character so bear with me while i get my rp sea legs back... anyways, here’s my baby: 

dia’s a relative newcomer not just to sunset hills, but to the united states — a 25 year old brasileira from rio de janeiro who graduated university three years ago with a bachelor’s in leisure and tourism ( at her university in são paulo, it’s an interdisciplinary degree blending natural sciences, sociology, arts and culture, education, etc, all up dia’s alleyway without pigeon-holding her to one subject ), her first taste of california was through the study abroad year she did at sunset hills university as a junior

there’s basically nothing else to say about her backstory because im in my flop era and didn’t think of anything worthwhile ❤️ the main points to note are that her family’s upper middle class, her father has american citizenship, and i think she has a younger brother

what followed her university graduation was a sense of aimlessness while still wanting to do something big — getting a job at a bureau of tourism wasn’t quite what she was itching for, so dia took a leap of faith and decided to return to sunset hills, having loved the californian beach culture and overall vibe of the city. wanting to be outdoors, she quickly found a job as a surf instructor and has been in the position ever since.

i’m thinking the position is with a surf school ( also affiliated with summer camps for kids, perhaps...??? ) but she also does some private lessons for friends or anyone else referred to her on the side because who’s gonna stop her

moving out of her home country and away from her family was... not necessarily an impulsive decision, considering dia’s always had a travel bug — it’s why she did the study abroad year in the first place — but it was a little fiscally irresponsible of her. she’s generally someone who values experiences over material goods and has never been able to build up proper savings because what’s money when something can bring you happiness? that being said, she’s fortunate to have parents who are financially comfortable enough to occasionally help her out in a tight spot ( though she tries to prevent that as much as possible, also valuing taking ownership for her own decisions and any complications that might come with them; she may have been a little starry-eyed at 22, but at 25, she knows better ). in the present day, dia’s trying to be a little more frugal, considering she’s building a life for herself in sunset hills and has moved into dusk drive, a step above midnight park.

overall, she’s adventurous, generous, and warm, more than happy to invite people into her home and life — but to a point. dia is, bless her heart, incredibly non-committal when it comes to anything beyond friendship. part of it is a fear to be vulnerable but much of it is driven by the thought in the back of her head that she’ll one day return to brazil so developing a real connection feels futile. she’s prone to going on a couple of dates with people and drifting, or one night stands that very seldom repeat. regardless, she’s one of those people that seems to strike up conversations with people wherever she goes so those reservations certainly don’t apply to her friendships whatsoever.

incredibly independent, and sometimes to a fault. like, the type of independent where she’ll be sick and still refusing to be babied, or defensively asserting that yes, she can carry all of the grocery bags from trader joes, thank you for offering, but then everything ends up spilling out of the bag anyways. another thing she’s trying to work on but isn’t quite successful at — in a lot of ways, dia keeps trying to prove she’s capable of being on her own, given the many reservations her family had when she said she wanted to move to the states and do something unrelated to her degree, but she hasn’t fully realized she already proved as much a long time ago and can start to let go of her sometimes fatal determination.

her personality does have a bit of a sarcastic bite to it, but only when warranted; she’s got very little patience for snobs in particular, especially since she loves making the most of her life and can’t fathom having things to whine about or wanting to deny others joy, even if it’s not quite “intellectual” enough. like grow up!!! this type of holier-than-thou attitude also grates her coming from another culture and being on a learning curve when it comes to certain aspects of the united states. not everyone knows everything all the time, or knows what’s “cool”, so give them some grace! it’s this kind of life experience that definitely informs dia’s living by a “be kind but take no shit” mantra. 

some other tidbits: she’s a fan of psychedelic rock ( bands like o terno, the brian jonestown massacre, the black keys, pond ), she’s a gemini, she’s openly bisexual, beer is her alcohol of choice, and she’s a mango MONSTER, so beware if you serve it anywhere because she will scarf it all down with no regard for anyone else like a woman possessed. also pretty athletic, if you couldn’t already tell by the surfing, but she also enjoys beach volleyball ( despite being 5′2 ), soccer, swimming, and taking walks.

after minyoung continued to throw tantrums over how she refused to act again, eventually her mom gave up and turned to the younger child

she initially felt bad as the elder child and almost gave in to her mother's demands to keep the pressure off of her younger sibling (since she knew all too well how heavy those expectations were) but when she saw them thriving and adored by their mother in ways that she never was, she grew resentful and withdrew to herself

eventually they would leave her behind to further pursue the younger sibling's career in the states and minyoung was left to take care of herself (i'd say this was around her second or third year of hs?)

nasrin grew up in a pretty small town where she felt like everyone was under a microscope . she grew up with a speech impediment ( rhotacism ) where she had trouble saying r sounds . because of this , although nasrin was naturally an extroverted person , she became more and more introverted because people would laugh at her whenever she talked so she just retreated into herself . she wanted to fit in so badly and she felt like maybe if she hadn’t been born with this impediment , she would . because her interests aligned with her peers but she still felt like an outsider . her parents put her in speech therapy but she grew frustrated , as many people do , when she couldn’t find enough progress . her frustration led to some emotional regulation problems . she did eventually find a speech therapist that really worked with her and met her where she was at , and the rhotacism has mostly gone away but still comes out once in a while . she retreated to the internet as well , because she couldn’t connect with her peers in real life but she definitely connected with people online . she became heavily involved in several fandoms , but most notably the one direction fandom , along with things like fashion and pop culture . 

present day

in college , nasrin was deciding between three majors : film , music marketing , and speech pathology . ultimately , she ended up double majoring in music marketing and speech pathology . however , after graduating , she decided to kind of abandon music marketing and focus solely on getting her masters in speech pathology and her license so she could become a speech therapist and help kids who had the same struggles as she did . now , she’s in her first year or so of being a speech therapist and she loves it . she really likes the idea of taking all the times she was bullied and all of the pain and turning into something productive . she’s still an online girlie and probably always will be because even though she’s a bit more social now , she’s still more introverted than she is naturally because of her experiences . it’s much easier for her to connect with people online than in real life . 

personality 

nasrin is a naturally warm and inviting person , but years of bullying kind of chipped away at her so she’s not nearly as extroverted as she would be . she’s a very organized person , loves making things look aesthetically pleasing . you should see her pinterest boards , she’s all about the aesthetic and the vibes . she’s also a very supportive person , this definitely comes out in the speech therapy practice , as she is incredibly supporting and understanding with the patients she works with . she’s still working on her emotional regulation issues , and they only pop out occasionally but if she gets frustrated with something , they can pop out quite aggressively . they mostly only come out when she’s alone or with people she really trusts . she’s a somewhat obsessive person , as you can probably tell from the fact that she’s a total fangirl . despite being more sure of herself now than she used to be , nasrin can still be incredibly insecure . she doesn’t think people in real life like her , because people in school used to pretend to like her as a joke and deep down , she still thinks that anyone who tries to be her friend is laughing at her behind her back . she’s trying to come out of her shell , but it’s hard work . there’s a part of her that will always be that scared little girl .

arisa is very much a local to daegu, her parents moving to the town shortly after her birth in osaka, japan.

unfortunately arisa was a very sickly child, suffering with a disease that gave her a weakened immune system and had her in and out of the hospital from ages 3 to 10. at 10 she had a bad bout in the hospital for several months where the doctors thought that she wasn’t going to make it, but ended up surviving in the end.

she had always been the typical girly girl who dreamed of a wedding and prince charming, fairytale movies were always played in her hospital room as she seemed to perk up while watching them. she likes to say that that love saved her ⏤ not only from the movies, but her parents as well.

although many families have rather broken parental relationships, hers was quite the opposite. her parents were high school sweethearts that broke up and finding each other again in their twenties and never let go ever since. her mother showed her how women were supposed to be treated and her father showed her what to look for in a man. even several decades later, they’re still playful and faithfully dedicated to each other.

so you could say that she’s always been obsessed with the idea of romance. this obviously bled into her relationships, and has dated around a lot in her life, experienced a lot of heartbreak ( especially in high school ), but hasn’t found her prince/ss charming :( which has caused some self-confidence issues which makes her prone to moody behaviors at random.

but she started becoming “cupid” after entering university and helping a couple of couples get together. it was from there that she realized how much she enjoyed helping people in general and decided to advertise her services to those around ⏤ and definitely not because she’s somewhat living through them at all! of course not!

this has also bled into her job @ vesper lounge too ... and around the mall in general, considering her reputation most likely proceeds her but she doesn’t mind that at all.

not only that but she’s sure that she wants to be a therapist or a legit dating coach, so like ... technically this her building experience, right?

having two very famous actors as parents (think son yejin and hyun bin marriage news level) inevitably meant that he was not only born in seoul, but also under the glare of the much too bright spotlight

shoved into commercials and dramas as soon as he could walk thanks to the helping hand of nepotism and lots of media play

his parents loved each other a lot, both in front of and behind cameras, but for some reason that same affection never really extended to him

they saw him as a stain on their careers more than anything, considering he wasn't really the best actor despite his efforts and esp not compared to his parents

an article about his average performance in the new sbs drama on sundays, 9-10pm slot? netizens leaving negative comments? nothing he didn't hear from mom and dad first, and certainly not half as biting, even though it would be a lie to say they didn't have an impact on his already crumbling confidence

starred in dramas and films throughout his teens, though more often in supporting roles much to his parents' annoyance

rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat up until he hit 20, and his mom was hit with illness after illness and was forced to retire. years of stardom and unhealthy life habits eventually caught up to her and haru was left picking up the pieces, trying to take care of her whilst maintaining the rest of his packed life

haha-hehe-hoho-laugh-out-loud'd as much as he could until he eventually had a pretty public breakdown on the set of a drama (no amount of reporting could delete the behind the scenes video that was plastered over sns) one year later and was subsequently booted

and then, as most of the news outlets say, proceeded to "drop off the face of earth" aka delete all of his social media, move out from his family home and hide from the cameras. very few people know the reality, which is that his dad kicked haru out after he told him he no longer wanted to be in the industry

doesn't keep in contact with his dad anymore but still talks to his mom!! who sends him money etc, helped him for those few years after he disappeared when he shifted from tiny to tinier cities, working odd jobs here and there until the next big actor/actress appeared and the media eventually "forgot" about him considering it had been years

moved to daegu 3 years ago and working at sunset galleria ever since!! he's the v happy radio host @ the sunset radio kiosk, choosing the music that plays throughout the mall alongside reading out stories people send in, passing on comforting messages and reminding people to take care

9th february 1999, born and raised in seoul

father teacher at an elementary school, mother working at a supermarket only fair to say that jaewon has lived an average life, sitting on the lower scale of the middle class. has a sister younger than him by few years. always was the type who was drawing; there's so many childhood drawings back at their home done by him alone that one could probably make a whole new house out of it. however, he played football mostly, since kindergarten all throughout the start of high-school, due to his parents' wish. decided to quit at the start of high-school, under the excuse that he wants to focus on studies.

in reality, he's spent his free time returning to his true passion... which quickly spirals into him drawing all the time, filling one too many sketchbooks all too fast; studies of value, anatomy, charcoal, graphite, cheap (dry) pastels. he develops a liking for a flowy touch of charcoal, alike breathy strokes of ink, quickly gaining a personal style. it's all done through naver and whichever book he can dig up from the local library, though, because his parents aren't really supportive of him following the path of an artist. after all, they are all struggling to put bread on the table and they don't want their son to be like that too.

semi-decently liked in high school, hits puberty early and has that boy crush vibes to him; with him being generally nice to everyone there are a few dates here and there but nothing serious ever happens. he had a lot of acquaintances and a few good friends though.

during this time, alongside a somewhat unlimited access to the internet and its wonders while his parents work, he finds a liking to tattoos in a way that's more complex than saying oh that looks pretty on their skin. he starts copying work done on skin of western celebrities at first, then starts coming up with his own design. gets stick and poke material from a friend of a friend of a friend and starts doing stuff on his legs mostly, thankfully most of which is now covered up

in a way, his parents have been right. his hyper-focus on it, mixed with the rebellious "i'll do what i want to do with my life" phase leads jaewon into not really studying when he's meant to be studying, so throughout high-school, his grades tank a lot. unfortunately, it's not enough to be hardworking re: drawing and talented to enter university and in spite of the evident talent, jaewon fails to enroll.

his parents aren't happy with it obviously soo he almost goes for his mandatory service right away instead, but in that same rebellious manner he says no (for now) and spends next two years... working night shifts at one of those 24-hour convenience shops while also doing an apprenticeship, attending conventions, pestering and listening to whoever wants to speak to him of the work. safe to assume he did in fact look like a zombie 18-20 and he's been barely-contact with his parents during that time

dedication, time, skill, tears, suffering have him landing a job in seoul straight out of apprenticeship, at a rather smaller place where he spends a little over a year, still looking up to his seniors; though he doesn't stay there long.

a friend of a friend (plot!?) recommends him barracuda, even if it's a city away. it's better in every way, with it being at a mall rather than some side alleyway on outskirts of seoul's city centre, and apparently the pay is better. he travels to daegu to check it out, carrying his portfolio, and it's like both ends have hit a jackpot at that moment. it's also a change of environment that he thinks would suit him well mentally so...

he becomes a full time artist @ the place. really enjoys his work and the shop, earning himself a respected name in the span of next two years (and ongoing) that he's there. (if my timeline is wrong ignore that)

gone complete no-contact with his parents due to all of this (distance also helps) but his sister thinks he's cool and that's all that matters to him in the end. tends to sleep over inside barracuda often after staying in late, which doesn't bother him much in the end because he lives in a really small studio apt anyway

his work can be seen on ig (@bbiwon) as it stands as a online-portfolio (sketches, flashes, healed tats; persona is anonymous). without going into detail describing his style, i will simply say that his work is similar to work of moku (a forewarning that he tattoos butterflies in case anyone is icked by them); with that flowy, almost freehand looking strokes. i envision his "signature tattoo" being variations on koi fishes, done in that same 'brushy' stroke/airy style. one day when i'm not lazy i'll draw an example of this

personality wise, jaewon is very soft spoken and thoughtful of others, the type that is comforting even if he doesn't say anything. calm, scarcely angry (but really spiteful and grudge holding if you manage to piss him off), the type who starts conversation about anything and everything without being embarrassed about it. carefree to an extent, holding the belief that everything will work out well in the end; though often prone to making spur of the moment decisions in his personal life. compassionate, casual & easy-going, sociable, very much caring even in moments when he should be putting himself first. the type to notice if someone isn't talking in a group of people and try to involve them. tries and isnt opposed to small talk during sessions but also reads people easily and their comfort levels

surprise surprise, he isn't daegu born actually. he's seoul borne, specifically from the rich residential area of gangnam is where he stayed, but who know what he is up to in daegu

as much as he denies it, he comes from a 'comfortable' position where money is the least of his concerns, hence why he's always been a salesperson aside from the freedom it gives.

because of his passion in skating though, he isn't an absolute shit at his job. in fact, he could best advice what gears you'd need. perhaps even give you a personal training session

he knows he's good looking and uses that to his benefits of course. from sugaring people up to pretending he's an innocent man, he'd work his way in and out to get what he wants

he can be found rather anywhere in the mall if he's playing hanky panky off work. it can be a slow day, so he's off around to flirt and well, to mess with people.

she was six years old when a sweet couple from the busy bustling city of seoul adopted her, the wife having chanced upon the children's home and jinah during a work trip as a traveling nurse. little young jinah would become the light of their lives despite not being biologically theirs

jinah's childhood was spent adjusting to the bright and loud city when she had only known the quaintness of the countryside, but it didn't take her long to adapt and by the time she moved on to middle school, she was living life like a seoul local

if living like a local meant enduring the hazing and bullying of fellow classmates for being given up at birth. how they came to know such a fact, jinah would never know but that didn't faze her nor did it hinder her in any way because if there's anything that kang jinah is, it's resilient

that resiliency got her through public schooling and before she knew it, she was entering university where she could be anyone that she wanted to be. not that she particularly kept her adoptee status a secret, but it's not exactly something you spill on a first date over coffee, y'know?

it's also during university that she started to fiddle with the idea of finding her birth parents, figure out her true roots and what not. she was careful in letting her parents know of her thoughts and luckily for her, they were fully supportive of the idea as long as jinah finished university first. so that she did; with a bachelors in computer science from hanyang and a mountain of debt to show for it

and so she's back in daegu now, 20 years later to search for her birth parents after the immense amount of money spent on a private investigator alerted her that [redacted] and [redacted] on her file still resided there

for her personality she's very much sticking to the phrase "it is what it is", meaning she's likely to be one of the chillest people you've ever met. it's not that she doesn't care, because it's likely that she does, it's just that she chooses not to stress herself over things completely out of her control. she's sweet and almost always with a smile on her face. a nice girl that would help the elderly cross the street if she saw them struggle or wander around to help a lost child find their parents, you get the vibe we're going for here

okay so summary of his early life: his mom was mia and his dad had trouble settling down. yoo jaemin was a dreamer and when his dreams inevitably didn't work out he'd fall into alcohol and anger until he found a new idea to latch onto. they moved from place to place, expending the hospitality of their neighbors until they were eventually forced out again. it was one neighbor in particular, an elderly man who sold oranges from a fold out chair in the street, that started developing jaehoon's love of stories. the man would talk to jaehoon for hours, telling him the most fascinating and exciting tales. when he introduced jaehoon to the library and an entire building of stories, jaehoon's young life was changed forever.

things took a turn from the better when, after a drunken bar fight landed him in the hospital, jaemin met oh inah. she was one of his nurses and she was charmed by his sweet smile and big plans. they dated briefly and married quickly and jaehoon found himself suddenly part of a complete family that came pre-built with an older brother and a mom. he had trouble trusting that the situation was permanent, but after a couple of years of patience and effort from both his step brother and inah, he found himself truly happy for the first time in his life.

it was only a matter of time before jaemin once more started concocting big plans that ended up in disaster. after convincing inah to put her life's savings into helping him purchase a run-down building he'd planned to fix up, the building ended up collapsing and the investment was greater than what he could sell the land for. they were broke. after a few months of vicious fighting, jaemin finally dipped leaving his son behind.

inah didn't for a second make jaehoon feel unwelcome or like a burden despite her new situation. she made it clear he was her son, no different from her oldest. she focused on making sure he was okay in the aftermath even as she found herself struggling to make ends meet. jaehoon got his first job as a delivery boy at fourteen years old to help out how he could.

they moved into a tiny one room apartment - the boys shared the bedroom and inah slept on the couch. she picked up extra shifts at the hospital and did what she could to make sure her kids didn't want for much. but they were both old enough to know what was happening and jaehoon did his very best to stay near the top of his class in school and have enough energy to bring in some extra money.

after he graduated secondary school, he got a job at kyobo book centre and really found a place he was comfortable. his plan was to save up some money, do his military service, and then come back and go to university so he could become a teacher. but life has a way of not working out quite right. inah found out she was pregnant when jaehoon was twenty one years old, and she gave birth to oh hana was born when he was twenty two. the birth had some complications and after a couple of days inah passed away.

naturally, jaehoon was distraught. but he and his brother had a kid to take care of so he didn't let himself linger in the feelings for long and threw himself into work. what was meant to be a job for a few years ended up becoming something more permanent and he worked his way up to management pretty quickly. since then, keeping up the store, taking care of hana, and working on his own creative projects have been the things keeping him going while he tries to figure out how he can climb out of the hole again.

this is also why he turned to bad company as he got older, because all the fun distracted him from the loss he never properly dealt with

he used to visit daegu during holidays when he was a child, but has never been back since his mother passed on

his dad wanted to send him away to reflect on his mistakes and have a taste of hardship, so he would understand the value of money and the responsibility that came with having a trust fund

so he decided it was best for him to live in daegu with his maternal grandma, who comes from a more humble background than his paternal family

his dad also figured that in order for him to inherit his family business one day, he has to understand the importance of hard work, which is why he insisted he get a job and not live off his grandma

i imagine this to be a time of reflection and learning for him, where he has to work for the first time ever and kind of returns to his roots, or his mom's roots, whom he avoided thinking about the past couple of years

adjusting to her life in korea was difficult and she bore resentment towards her mom. she started smoking in highschool and was generally a rebellious kid (which ofc led to more fights w her family)

she played soccer to vent out her frustration but it wasn't until her family agreed to let her do a summer program back in new york that she rly fell into visual art. she was enthralled by the medium and decided that it was something she was going to do

u guessed it, her mom and grandparents were against it and eileen acted out by getting her first tattoo & more piercings. she rly wanted to do uni in the states but just couldn't afford it so she applied to a fine arts program at busan arts college

at this point her relationship w family was very rocky but she started not giving a shit abt what hurtful words they threw at her. however, art school was stressful and it was after her second year of college that she found a love for tattoo artistry. this led her to dropping out and pursuing an apprenticeship at a small shop

dropping out was truly the icing on the cake for her family and at the same time, her grandfather had passed after dealing with some health issues. her life a mess, she started isolating herself from friends. the only solace she found was with her partner at the time that stood with her through the thick of it

CAREER

at first her apprenticeship was going great but soon it became a bit of a disagreement on rates & schedule and she found the studio to be disorganized

after learning about barracuda through someone that she regarded as a mentor, she got the job there and has been working at sunset galleria for a year! they let her do her own thing and the pay is good so she's pretty happy about it

eileen’s art style mainly consists of abstract fine line work, high contrast tattoos, cyber sigilism, and mild horror inspired work. she doesn’t repeat any flashes so each piece is one of a kind and loves doing freehand stuff as well!

she has dreams of travelling and being a guest tattoo artist around the world and opening up her own studio one day but that's a future goal - she's got student debt to pay!

she's pretty easygoing but def the type to rely on friends to set up plans (she most always says yes but lacks the effort to initiate plans/bad at keeping up with friends)
