surprise surprise, he isn't daegu born actually. he's seoul borne, specifically from the rich residential area of gangnam is where he stayed, but who know what he is up to in daegu

as much as he denies it, he comes from a 'comfortable' position where money is the least of his concerns, hence why he's always been a salesperson aside from the freedom it gives.

because of his passion in skating though, he isn't an absolute shit at his job. in fact, he could best advice what gears you'd need. perhaps even give you a personal training session

he knows he's good looking and uses that to his benefits of course. from sugaring people up to pretending he's an innocent man, he'd work his way in and out to get what he wants

he can be found rather anywhere in the mall if he's playing hanky panky off work. it can be a slow day, so he's off around to flirt and well, to mess with people.

off duty though, you can still find him at the mall where he'd most likely be found at the vesper lounge in which he could definitely buy himself a drink but never will. if you work there then god bless you.

a rather fun plot where he gets someones help in purchasing a lipstick colour (ends up in a mess of swatches, or just plain o' flirty kiss jokes)

an alternative friendly rival in which your muse may be trying to dig some dirt to use against inho and to reputation, where he was caught browsing the adult section in the store, though he really was just clumsy that one time and dropped something that fell into that aisle.

arisa is very much a local to daegu, her parents moving to the town shortly after her birth in osaka, japan.

unfortunately arisa was a very sickly child, suffering with a disease that gave her a weakened immune system and had her in and out of the hospital from ages 3 to 10. at 10 she had a bad bout in the hospital for several months where the doctors thought that she wasn’t going to make it, but ended up surviving in the end.

she had always been the typical girly girl who dreamed of a wedding and prince charming, fairytale movies were always played in her hospital room as she seemed to perk up while watching them. she likes to say that that love saved her ⏤ not only from the movies, but her parents as well.

although many families have rather broken parental relationships, hers was quite the opposite. her parents were high school sweethearts that broke up and finding each other again in their twenties and never let go ever since. her mother showed her how women were supposed to be treated and her father showed her what to look for in a man. even several decades later, they’re still playful and faithfully dedicated to each other.

so you could say that she’s always been obsessed with the idea of romance. this obviously bled into her relationships, and has dated around a lot in her life, experienced a lot of heartbreak ( especially in high school ), but hasn’t found her prince/ss charming :( which has caused some self-confidence issues which makes her prone to moody behaviors at random.

but she started becoming “cupid” after entering university and helping a couple of couples get together. it was from there that she realized how much she enjoyed helping people in general and decided to advertise her services to those around ⏤ and definitely not because she’s somewhat living through them at all! of course not!

this has also bled into her job @ vesper lounge too ... and around the mall in general, considering her reputation most likely proceeds her but she doesn’t mind that at all.

not only that but she’s sure that she wants to be a therapist or a legit dating coach, so like ... technically this her building experience, right?

anyways yeah! this time i do have plot ideas so here they are below:

having two very famous actors as parents (think son yejin and hyun bin marriage news level) inevitably meant that he was not only born in seoul, but also under the glare of the much too bright spotlight

shoved into commercials and dramas as soon as he could walk thanks to the helping hand of nepotism and lots of media play

his parents loved each other a lot, both in front of and behind cameras, but for some reason that same affection never really extended to him

they saw him as a stain on their careers more than anything, considering he wasn't really the best actor despite his efforts and esp not compared to his parents

an article about his average performance in the new sbs drama on sundays, 9-10pm slot? netizens leaving negative comments? nothing he didn't hear from mom and dad first, and certainly not half as biting, even though it would be a lie to say they didn't have an impact on his already crumbling confidence

starred in dramas and films throughout his teens, though more often in supporting roles much to his parents' annoyance

rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat up until he hit 20, and his mom was hit with illness after illness and was forced to retire. years of stardom and unhealthy life habits eventually caught up to her and haru was left picking up the pieces, trying to take care of her whilst maintaining the rest of his packed life

haha-hehe-hoho-laugh-out-loud'd as much as he could until he eventually had a pretty public breakdown on the set of a drama (no amount of reporting could delete the behind the scenes video that was plastered over sns) one year later and was subsequently booted

and then, as most of the news outlets say, proceeded to "drop off the face of earth" aka delete all of his social media, move out from his family home and hide from the cameras. very few people know the reality, which is that his dad kicked haru out after he told him he no longer wanted to be in the industry

doesn't keep in contact with his dad anymore but still talks to his mom!! who sends him money etc, helped him for those few years after he disappeared when he shifted from tiny to tinier cities, working odd jobs here and there until the next big actor/actress appeared and the media eventually "forgot" about him considering it had been years

moved to daegu 3 years ago and working at sunset galleria ever since!! he's the v happy radio host @ the sunset radio kiosk, choosing the music that plays throughout the mall alongside reading out stories people send in, passing on comforting messages and reminding people to take care

also has two cats called mimi and momo that he adopted from a rescue :^) not the step dad but the #dad that stepped up

in terms of his personality: walls raised to the sky, quiet, very withdrawn. like very, very, very withdrawn. it's been over six years since he's been in the limelight and he still dislikes being in front of cameras, feeling like he's being perceived or watched, analysed etc etc

the irony of disliking attention yet being a radio host isn't lost on him but haru vc: at least people don't actually see my face at sunset unless they're nosy

perpetually nervous, fidgets a lot, a people-pleaser, very malleable. a genuine medical mystery because he has no back bone and there's very little in the world that can get him to express an emotion stronger than indifference

his tendency to be over-polite and inherently quiet nature means he can come across as rude even if that's the opposite of what he intends

always wearing headphones so he promises he isn't ignoring you, you just caught him at a really bad time

speaking of promising he isn't ignoring you -- he has a bad habit of not replying to texts for days or disappearing and taking a week off work whenever things get too hectic for him it's a habit he hasn't managed to shake off just yet

there's a difference between being lonely and being alone -- and he's both. paradoxically, he does want to make friends but just has no idea how to approach anyone and hopes that staring at you from a distance is a good first step

BACKGROUND

born in daegu to a young college couple that could barely afford to make ends meet for themselves, let alone their newborn child. she was left on the steps of the local fire department at the age of three and brought to a children's home not long after

she was six years old when a sweet couple from the busy bustling city of seoul adopted her, the wife having chanced upon the children's home and jinah during a work trip as a traveling nurse. little young jinah would become the light of their lives despite not being biologically theirs

jinah's childhood was spent adjusting to the bright and loud city when she had only known the quaintness of the countryside, but it didn't take her long to adapt and by the time she moved on to middle school, she was living life like a seoul local

if living like a local meant enduring the hazing and bullying of fellow classmates for being given up at birth. how they came to know such a fact, jinah would never know but that didn't faze her nor did it hinder her in any way because if there's anything that kang jinah is, it's resilient

that resiliency got her through public schooling and before she knew it, she was entering university where she could be anyone that she wanted to be. not that she particularly kept her adoptee status a secret, but it's not exactly something you spill on a first date over coffee, y'know?

it's also during university that she started to fiddle with the idea of finding her birth parents, figure out her true roots and what not. she was careful in letting her parents know of her thoughts and luckily for her, they were fully supportive of the idea as long as jinah finished university first. so that she did; with a bachelors in computer science from hanyang and a mountain of debt to show for it

and so she's back in daegu now, 20 years later to search for her birth parents after the immense amount of money spent on a private investigator alerted her that [redacted] and [redacted] on her file still resided there

for her personality she's very much sticking to the phrase "it is what it is", meaning she's likely to be one of the chillest people you've ever met. it's not that she doesn't care, because it's likely that she does, it's just that she chooses not to stress herself over things completely out of her control. she's sweet and almost always with a smile on her face. a nice girl that would help the elderly cross the street if she saw them struggle or wander around to help a lost child find their parents, you get the vibe we're going for here

PLOTS:

she's a relatively fresh face around the mall and clearly in need of a friend; that's where you come in! ever since you noticed her taking a break on her own you've made it your personal goal to check in with jinah whenever possible

for whatever reason, you find yourself digging through the racks and racks of items at isanghan thrift and she's got her eye on you for potential theft with the way you're ransacking through the shelves but really, you're looking for this (1) thing you lost and security says rumour has it it's landed here

something like this post where she notices you having a crappy day and when she inevitably asks what's wrong you say "nothing" except she's calling bullshit. she may be new to sunset but she isn't dumb, so spill

she's been dying to try out glogolf but she doesn't want to go on her own because "that's just sad" so she basically begs you to go with her and honestly...how can you say no to her 🥺

someone who she's known from seoul!! it can either be a friendship they had or perhaps they didn't get along so well back then, the possibilities are truly endless here

a new (?) city means a new dating pool and miss girl won't pass up the opportunity. that is until she finds out you also work at sunset and then it's jinah goes ghost!

miss compsci major is also a gaming nerd and she makes it pretty obvious with her spending breaks glued to her phone a lot of the time– oh what's that? you're a gamer too? oh she could just fall in love rn in this club

coached by her mom but was one of those "naturally gifted" youths so it was usually just some tweaking to the script that was done

an absolute icon and star in the entertainment world until everything came crashing down around her

but regardless, she was kicked into high gear work wise but with everything going wrong around her and being unable to properly process any of it, her acting started to slip and she wasn't doing as great as she used to

ofc lots of gossip calling her a flop, public opinion was kinda ready to shift against her and leave her behind for other rising stars.......her mom was having none of it

rather than comforting minyoung she just pushed her harder and the coaching was becoming strict (for lack of a better word). minyoung just going through the motions at that point

but she hated that she'd gone from praised and adored to pitied and ridiculed so she decided to go big for her last project

everyone expected it to flop which was why the director reluctantly let her onto the project after her mom pretty much begged for it and what would you know, miae gave a performance of a lifetime

and then she quit acting

after minyoung continued to throw tantrums over how she refused to act again, eventually her mom gave up and turned to the younger child

she initially felt bad as the elder child and almost gave in to her mother's demands to keep the pressure off of her younger sibling (since she knew all too well how heavy those expectations were) but when she saw them thriving and adored by their mother in ways that she never was, she grew resentful and withdrew to herself

eventually they would leave her behind to further pursue the younger sibling's career in the states and minyoung was left to take care of herself (i'd say this was around her second or third year of hs?)

now years later, her acting funds have reached a standstill, and she's a ticket taker at haesmuli cinema!!!!

okay so summary of his early life: his mom was mia and his dad had trouble settling down. yoo jaemin was a dreamer and when his dreams inevitably didn't work out he'd fall into alcohol and anger until he found a new idea to latch onto. they moved from place to place, expending the hospitality of their neighbors until they were eventually forced out again. it was one neighbor in particular, an elderly man who sold oranges from a fold out chair in the street, that started developing jaehoon's love of stories. the man would talk to jaehoon for hours, telling him the most fascinating and exciting tales. when he introduced jaehoon to the library and an entire building of stories, jaehoon's young life was changed forever.

things took a turn from the better when, after a drunken bar fight landed him in the hospital, jaemin met oh inah. she was one of his nurses and she was charmed by his sweet smile and big plans. they dated briefly and married quickly and jaehoon found himself suddenly part of a complete family that came pre-built with an older brother and a mom. he had trouble trusting that the situation was permanent, but after a couple of years of patience and effort from both his step brother and inah, he found himself truly happy for the first time in his life.

it was only a matter of time before jaemin once more started concocting big plans that ended up in disaster. after convincing inah to put her life's savings into helping him purchase a run-down building he'd planned to fix up, the building ended up collapsing and the investment was greater than what he could sell the land for. they were broke. after a few months of vicious fighting, jaemin finally dipped leaving his son behind.

inah didn't for a second make jaehoon feel unwelcome or like a burden despite her new situation. she made it clear he was her son, no different from her oldest. she focused on making sure he was okay in the aftermath even as she found herself struggling to make ends meet. jaehoon got his first job as a delivery boy at fourteen years old to help out how he could.

they moved into a tiny one room apartment - the boys shared the bedroom and inah slept on the couch. she picked up extra shifts at the hospital and did what she could to make sure her kids didn't want for much. but they were both old enough to know what was happening and jaehoon did his very best to stay near the top of his class in school and have enough energy to bring in some extra money.

after he graduated secondary school, he got a job at kyobo book centre and really found a place he was comfortable. his plan was to save up some money, do his military service, and then come back and go to university so he could become a teacher. but life has a way of not working out quite right. inah found out she was pregnant when jaehoon was twenty one years old, and she gave birth to oh hana was born when he was twenty two. the birth had some complications and after a couple of days inah passed away.

naturally, jaehoon was distraught. but he and his brother had a kid to take care of so he didn't let himself linger in the feelings for long and threw himself into work. what was meant to be a job for a few years ended up becoming something more permanent and he worked his way up to management pretty quickly. since then, keeping up the store, taking care of hana, and working on his own creative projects have been the things keeping him going while he tries to figure out how he can climb out of the hole again.

this is also why he turned to bad company as he got older, because all the fun distracted him from the loss he never properly dealt with

he used to visit daegu during holidays when he was a child, but has never been back since his mother passed on

his dad wanted to send him away to reflect on his mistakes and have a taste of hardship, so he would understand the value of money and the responsibility that came with having a trust fund

so he decided it was best for him to live in daegu with his maternal grandma, who comes from a more humble background than his paternal family

his dad also figured that in order for him to inherit his family business one day, he has to understand the importance of hard work, which is why he insisted he get a job and not live off his grandma

i imagine this to be a time of reflection and learning for him, where he has to work for the first time ever and kind of returns to his roots, or his mom's roots, whom he avoided thinking about the past couple of years

ofc eileen was not happy to be leaving her life in new york and it didn't help that her maternal grandparents were even more conservative than her mom was. they often misunderstood each other and not just cus of the language barrier

adjusting to her life in korea was difficult and she bore resentment towards her mom. she started smoking in highschool and was generally a rebellious kid (which ofc led to more fights w her family)

she played soccer to vent out her frustration but it wasn't until her family agreed to let her do a summer program back in new york that she rly fell into visual art. she was enthralled by the medium and decided that it was something she was going to do

u guessed it, her mom and grandparents were against it and eileen acted out by getting her first tattoo & more piercings. she rly wanted to do uni in the states but just couldn't afford it so she applied to a fine arts program at busan arts college

at this point her relationship w family was very rocky but she started not giving a shit abt what hurtful words they threw at her. however, art school was stressful and it was after her second year of college that she found a love for tattoo artistry. this led her to dropping out and pursuing an apprenticeship at a small shop

dropping out was truly the icing on the cake for her family and at the same time, her grandfather had passed after dealing with some health issues. her life a mess, she started isolating herself from friends. the only solace she found was with her partner at the time that stood with her through the thick of it

CAREER

at first her apprenticeship was going great but soon it became a bit of a disagreement on rates & schedule and she found the studio to be disorganized

after learning about barracuda through someone that she regarded as a mentor, she got the job there and has been working at sunset galleria for a year! they let her do her own thing and the pay is good so she's pretty happy about it

eileen’s art style mainly consists of abstract fine line work, high contrast tattoos, cyber sigilism, and mild horror inspired work. she doesn’t repeat any flashes so each piece is one of a kind and loves doing freehand stuff as well!

she has dreams of travelling and being a guest tattoo artist around the world and opening up her own studio one day but that's a future goal - she's got student debt to pay!

she's pretty easygoing but def the type to rely on friends to set up plans (she most always says yes but lacks the effort to initiate plans/bad at keeping up with friends)

moved to daegu when she was 12 to live with her grandparents because they badly needed help around the home. she settled in quick but had trouble making friends initially and mostly kept to herself.

grandpa died when she was 14. following after, her mum and grandma had a falling out, the details of which she wasn't privy to. over the next few years, chaeri loses contact with her parents.

chaeri goes on to become her grandma's primary caregiver, a position she resents despite her love for the woman.

she grew a bit more into herself in her later years in school, began to pick up a few hobbies and the odd job here and there for extra pocket money.

graduated school and immediately signed up for uni. one year into that, her grandma dies. chaeri's the one to organise the funeral and sell all her stuff. her parents don't even show.

uni sort of gets put on hold afterwards, and she's still slogging through these last few credits to earn that degree now. if there's nobody kicking your ass, you're mourning, and you need to find somewhere new to stay it gets a bit difficult to juggle everything (not to mention financial problems). she really wants to be done already, though.

somewhere in there she gets her job at the thrift shop. maybe not the best paid position she could aim for, but they let her write her papers on the clock, so she's been sticking with it ever since. wishes she could stay working there but she does want an actual career one of these days.

despite all that, she's a happy gal! she's worked through her issues and isn't grieving anymore. her arc is more so about figuring herself out and finding her place !!

quick and dirty summary: chaeri used to be a bit shy and isolationist, but she lost that streak as an older teen (though she's no extrovert by any means). somewhat blunt and direct, quick to pick up on social cues, decently emotionally intelligent. she's the person who will take on most of the work in a group project, but will resent you if you don't pull your weight. avoids crowds, but really enjoys smaller group hangouts. rarely communicates her feelings (actions over words). true ride or die. doesn't get embarrassed much and sticks to her opinions, but can be stubborn. when she's in a funk she'll ghost you, and she might've skipped out on a few shifts before (sorry co-workers!)

heyy all ♥ name's lola, here presenting the misunderstood character prompt, moon jaewon; who looks like a badboy, walks like a badboy but is a soft-hearted individual in reality. under the cut i've provided information about him in a bullet point list. if you'd like to interact, i'm available through both IMs and discord, latter which i strongly prefer, but i don't mind either platforms at the end of the day. thank you for your time! ♥

9th february 1999, born and raised in seoul

father teacher at an elementary school, mother working at a supermarket only fair to say that jaewon has lived an average life, sitting on the lower scale of the middle class. has a sister younger than him by few years. always was the type who was drawing; there's so many childhood drawings back at their home done by him alone that one could probably make a whole new house out of it. however, he played football mostly, since kindergarten all throughout the start of high-school, due to his parents' wish. decided to quit at the start of high-school, under the excuse that he wants to focus on studies.

in reality, he's spent his free time returning to his true passion... which quickly spirals into him drawing all the time, filling one too many sketchbooks all too fast; studies of value, anatomy, charcoal, graphite, cheap (dry) pastels. he develops a liking for a flowy touch of charcoal, alike breathy strokes of ink, quickly gaining a personal style. it's all done through naver and whichever book he can dig up from the local library, though, because his parents aren't really supportive of him following the path of an artist. after all, they are all struggling to put bread on the table and they don't want their son to be like that too.

semi-decently liked in high school, hits puberty early and has that boy crush vibes to him; with him being generally nice to everyone there are a few dates here and there but nothing serious ever happens. he had a lot of acquaintances and a few good friends though.

during this time, alongside a somewhat unlimited access to the internet and its wonders while his parents work, he finds a liking to tattoos in a way that's more complex than saying oh that looks pretty on their skin. he starts copying work done on skin of western celebrities at first, then starts coming up with his own design. gets stick and poke material from a friend of a friend of a friend and starts doing stuff on his legs mostly, thankfully most of which is now covered up

in a way, his parents have been right. his hyper-focus on it, mixed with the rebellious "i'll do what i want to do with my life" phase leads jaewon into not really studying when he's meant to be studying, so throughout high-school, his grades tank a lot. unfortunately, it's not enough to be hardworking re: drawing and talented to enter university and in spite of the evident talent, jaewon fails to enroll.

his parents aren't happy with it obviously soo he almost goes for his mandatory service right away instead, but in that same rebellious manner he says no (for now) and spends next two years... working night shifts at one of those 24-hour convenience shops while also doing an apprenticeship, attending conventions, pestering and listening to whoever wants to speak to him of the work. safe to assume he did in fact look like a zombie 18-20 and he's been barely-contact with his parents during that time

dedication, time, skill, tears, suffering have him landing a job in seoul straight out of apprenticeship, at a rather smaller place where he spends a little over a year, still looking up to his seniors; though he doesn't stay there long.

a friend of a friend (plot!?) recommends him barracuda, even if it's a city away. it's better in every way, with it being at a mall rather than some side alleyway on outskirts of seoul's city centre, and apparently the pay is better. he travels to daegu to check it out, carrying his portfolio, and it's like both ends have hit a jackpot at that moment. it's also a change of environment that he thinks would suit him well mentally so...

he becomes a full time artist @ the place. really enjoys his work and the shop, earning himself a respected name in the span of next two years (and ongoing) that he's there. (if my timeline is wrong ignore that)

gone complete no-contact with his parents due to all of this (distance also helps) but his sister thinks he's cool and that's all that matters to him in the end. tends to sleep over inside barracuda often after staying in late, which doesn't bother him much in the end because he lives in a really small studio apt anyway

his work can be seen on ig (@bbiwon) as it stands as a online-portfolio (sketches, flashes, healed tats; persona is anonymous). without going into detail describing his style, i will simply say that his work is similar to work of moku (a forewarning that he tattoos butterflies in case anyone is icked by them); with that flowy, almost freehand looking strokes. i envision his "signature tattoo" being variations on koi fishes, done in that same 'brushy' stroke/airy style. one day when i'm not lazy i'll draw an example of this

personality wise, jaewon is very soft spoken and thoughtful of others, the type that is comforting even if he doesn't say anything. calm, scarcely angry (but really spiteful and grudge holding if you manage to piss him off), the type who starts conversation about anything and everything without being embarrassed about it. carefree to an extent, holding the belief that everything will work out well in the end; though often prone to making spur of the moment decisions in his personal life. compassionate, casual & easy-going, sociable, very much caring even in moments when he should be putting himself first. the type to notice if someone isn't talking in a group of people and try to involve them. tries and isnt opposed to small talk during sessions but also reads people easily and their comfort levels

some other tidbits: — plays league of legends, maintaining a masters rank for past several seasons — the type to have "loves long walks on the beach/by the river/lake and watching sunset" on tinder but still can't make it past the second date (he actually doesn't know what he wants out of a relationship) — likes to drink, friends know how physically affectionate he actually gets when drunk — vapes... strawberry flavour... i'm sorry — dresses baggy, streetwear, comfortable — his first personal instagram kind of blew up which made him uncomfortable, so he deleted that one and made a new one. now, it is actually private and really small selection of people — trying really hard to learn how to play the guitar but also not really successful at it. will play it however to everyone's misfortune — drives a motorcycle, skateboards — lover of alt music, fan of cigarettes after sex and collects their vinyl releases despite not owning a turntable — his hair is crying but he keeps bleaching it — carries his ipad with him 24/7, always sketching something in free time — aquarius sun scorpio moon scorpio rising but you see idk what any of it means — mitski - i bet on losing dogs.mp3

i prefer brainstorming for plotting, or taking up other people's wanted plots as my brain is pea sized, but some ideas i have are: a failed tinder date who happens to actually work at the same mall , store right next to barracuda and it's kinda awkward seeing you every day or alternatively lets try again; someone who's a fan of his work; someone who he helped with a hangover after one of those forbidden parties at the mall; somehow every saturday you bump into one another when he's skating next to the geumho river and omg again? third time you're paying for a drink; mysterious person he's in a high-score war with at xpixel; coworkers; someone who thinks he's bad influence bc of his work & appearance... etcetera

BACKSTORY

he was both born and raised in the cheongdam-dong residential area of seoul, south korea. his father is on the board of directors for seoul national university hospital, and his mother is an heiress to ‘danjin’ group (the equivalent of sk group). his  younger sister currently attends seoul university. 

he grew up privileged and excelled in the arts (especially painting), but was forced to take up many extracurriculars such as piano (advanced), guitar (intermediate), golf (amateur), english (fluent), and taekwondo (red belt). 

his relationship with his parents was neither good nor bad. they weren’t particularly active in raising him (they left that up to the hired help), but they weren’t neglectful. they desired to maintain their social status and were determined to see their children succeed. grades were kept under a very watchful eye, hobbies were manufactured, and friendships were forged out of preexisting parental connections.

still, they loved each other.

as for his sister, they were two peas in a tightly wound pod. they were (and still are) fiercely protective of one another.

art became his escape from an early age – not that life was tough (how can it truly be when the spoon hanging out of your mouth is not silver, but gold); when familial duties mandated he begin preparing to enter society not as a mere socialite, but an active participant, he used art as a vessel.

“did you know van gogh created a painting every 36 hours?” “you could’ve stepped out of a wang meifang portrait and i wouldn’t have known the difference” “sketch me something, kitae.”

and the people loved him. and he reveled in the attention.

COLLEGE

tw: brief mention of potential abortion

much to his dismay, his parents did not allow him to pursue a major in art history. considering they were footing the bill for his education, he agreed to major is business management. 

it was in his first semester that he met someone who he considered to be the love of his life (name: tba). 

his parents did not approve of her, at all. she was born overseas and encouraged kitae to follow his dreams of being a painter. this was, of course, frowned upon by his parents.

in his second year of college, kitae found out he was going to be a father. he tried to persuade her not to keep it – but she refused, wanting to continue the pregnancy. safe to say, kitae was nervous as hell.

and he was right to be. this new information did not excite his parents in the slightest. they threatened to cut him off financially if he were to remain in his girlfriend and baby’s life. but he did, anyway. this caused him to have to drop out of college after three years.

everything was going well – until their daughter turned 6 months old and the gf (i need to find her a name fr) abandoned them both, leaving only a note.

DAEGU + SUNSET

kitae heard from a friend of a friend that a club in daegu ran illegal fighting rings – and he wanted in. taekwondo had been something he excelled at before being forced to quit in order to concentrate on his studies. taking his extensive knowledge of combat and mixing it with years of pent up anger and frustration made for a dangerous concoction. but it worked, and he began winning. and winning. and winning. he fought under the name 'onyx'.

until a cataclysmic back injury almost left him paralyzed. he drained his savings paying off medical bills not only for the surgery (that left him with a slight limp every time he overworks the muscles in his back), but also for the months of physical therapy.

once he could finally walk he began to take up odd jobs here and there. a party planner (kids parties only, and he only really ever blew up the balloons), a store greeter (sometimes they made him twirl a sign), and various other jobs ranging from humiliating to borderline illegal.

until finally, two years after his injury, he sees an opening for a fitness trainer position at gwangtaeg gym. now that he feels (for the most part) and appears perfectly healthy, he’s ready to begin a steady job that will actually keep the lights on in his little one bedroom apartment he shares with his almost 4 year old daughter.

though even he knows it’s a matter of time before the streets beckon him once again.

WANTED CONNECTIONS/PLOTS

i’m honestly up for anything! but here are a few ideas to jumpstart off of.

he likes to hit up glogolf late at night because he can’t stand not being good at something so simple as hitting a ball with a stick. will you give him pointers? bond over your shared shittiness at golf? etc?

he carries around a little sketchbook with him – but what happens if he leaves it behind? will you happily return it, or will your generosity come at a price?

his daughter wants one of those cheap plushies from the claw machine but he’s been here the past goddamn hour and can’t seem to win one. also, he’s out of coins. will you help him out, or will your generosity come at a price? just don’t tell security he’s been digging in the fountain for loose change.

the flaky teenager that (admittedly, he doesn’t pay enough) to babysit his daughter couldn’t make it, so he’s forced to bring her with him to the mall. the gym, however, is not the most stimulating environment for a toddler. so, when she wanders off it comes as no surprise she’s bumped into you at (insert store/kiosk). kitae is determined to make it up to you.

unable to take his eyes off of you when you come in for your scheduled workouts, kitae is shocked to find that you plague not only his thoughts, but his dreams. an artist at heart, he begins to sketch little things about you. your tattoos(?), the chain that’s always dangling from your neck(?), your profile, etc. upon finding out you work in the mall, he’s made it his mission to get you alone…to get you to come back to his place…to paint you, of course!

you’re annoying. and rude. and if kitae could burn holes into the ground and watch it swallow you up, he would. that was his first and last session as your instructor and he’s just lucky he does not have to see you ever again. what are the odds that the newest signup for his self-defense class (a side hustle his boss was gracious enough to let him conduct in the gym), is you? he needs your money, and you need the skills.

generic connections i’m always down for:

confidante: self-explanatory. we can plot out the backstory, but he’s relatively new to daegu and sunset so i’m mainly looking for new friends instead of old.

friend with benefits: self-explanatory. kitae can’t exactly bring people home to his place so when he’s at the mall he able to…curb any desires he has (and as a former playboy, he definitely has many). 

someone that knows of him from his streetfighting days. not personally, but you recognize him enough to put his job in jeopardy if anyone were to find out.

also open for connections involving his ex (such as an ex-friend of hers), daughter (such as an unlikely babysitter), potential lovers, and any others that can arise due to his personality.

₊˙ ◌ ⁎˚ 〇﹒﹙lee jueun. cisfemale. she/her﹚guess who was almost late for their shift at gwangtaeg gym?? that’s right, it was seo danbi! it’s a wonder their job as a yoga instructor isn’t in jeopardy. the 26 year old has been working at sunset galleria for one year and eight months, and is well known for their kind nature. on bad days, they can be rather withdrawn, though. when the mall is dead at night, they can usually be found browsing hair dyes for her next color, but don’t tell their boss!

this is basically gyuri just with some changes so that i have a clear direction i want to head with her. so what's different about gyuri besides the new face? the biggest one is the name change. well, it's just a slight difference. i really didn't need to make the change but i felt like it. but! her personality is generally the same, she just has a bigger fall off from what she wanted to be vs what she's currently doing... more mommy and daddy issues, and maybe more of an "escapist" mindset regarding her personal life.

you may have heard about the fairy residing in gwangtaeg gym through the grapevines. yes, the fairy is seo danbi and no, she does not know exactly how she got that title amongst local gymgoers.

about. (it's basically the same as gyuri so i'll do a recap)

born march 17, 1997. as the last addition to a family of five. she is the baby and her brother and sister makes sure she never forgets that. the line between being babied and just straight up being spoiled is very thin with them, but it’s surprisingly still there. one might think they'd stop as she got older. (spoiler alert: they didn't)

a “loving” father and mother who had very high expectations that all of their kids would follow in their father’s footsteps in the medical field. although she should probably cut off contact with them, she just cant bring herself to do so. they are her parents and she does love them, even if they don't share that sentiment always sought their approval. studied hard, performed well in school, taking care of her chores without being told. all she wanted was to make them happy. i mean, that was her duty as their child, right? 

no matter how hard she tried to build a bridge between her and her parents, there was always something that got in the way. maybe they just didn't love her the way she loved them? either way, life went on. she got into a lot of one sided arguments with her parents, got "unofficially disowned" by them over her choice in university major. she may make jokes and laugh about it but deep down she's deeply hurt by it.

attended university away from home with a double major in psychology and health science. supported herself throughout college, working jobs while being a full time student. one of the most difficult times in her life, and really doesn't talk about it to people who didn't know her then. however, she managed to survive the hard nights and the countless moments she wanted to give up and drop out.

had a lot of different hobbies and skills she picked up during college. some of it were from her random side gigs she picked up for extra money. this is also where she got into yoga, because how else would she deal with the troubles her life brings in a healthy manner?

got her degree and is effectively not using it in the way she intended. all of that full from her parents about wanting to be a psychiatrist and she didn't even continue down that path. cue her really getting into yoga post-graduation. took a lot of classes and even got her certification.

started working as an yoga teaching assistant to have an excuse not to move back home, which later led to her working at gwangtaeg gym as an official yoga instructor.

impeccable customer service, her clients leave satisfied and typically returns. even if she's not in the middle of a class or private session, she's seen around the gym, potentially working out in her own time or helping clean equipment. happy to help any gymgoer! or at least that's how convincing she is at pretending she loves interacting with so many people.

either way, she's got a reputation for being kind! and she upholds that for the most part but some days she's just not in the mood to talk to people. tends to isolate herself, and might not be as responsive as usual, which is why some times she can be perceived as withdrawn

fun facts

one bad bleaching session way from being bald. constantly dying her hair to feel like she has control over something in her life. likely got the fairy title from locals due to her preference for unnatural vibrant colors. her scalp is probably crying for help anytime she's within 20 feet from bleach, but that's not stopping her! currently sporting what is supposed to be pink, but may look more purple to some. yes she previously did go through a red phase before the pink and no she was not okay

bad spending habits, really goes in a store and ends up buying something she probably would never use, even though she makes the silly assumption she'll get her money's worth when adding it to her cart. becomes even more of a victim when it comes to thing she finds cute, like certain decorations. i assume this would mean her room has a corner dedicated to the random stuff she bought but hasn't really found a permanent place in her home.

self aware queen! her emotional intelligence very high since those psych classes taught her a lot, esp about herself. however, she still has trouble being vulnerable with others about her emotions. she's dealing with all of that herself and it gets draining quick. on nights it gets too heavy for her, she might be spotted getting a drink or a few in hopes of forgetting whatever was plaguing her mind.

love people watching and making up random backstories for people she doesn't know. it's kind of relaxing for her, the think about the reasons behind why some people are coming to the mall and buying stuff. realizing how big the world is and how small she is in comparison to that. you might just find her on a bench or against a wall just observing.

still living with anxiety, just this time around she's been professionally diagnosed. that amongst a few other things, but it's really something she doesn't speak about. she treats it like a government secret and does her best to keep it from others because she doesn't like others worrying about her.

quick little plot ideas

she is still a shopping fanatic. potential shopping buddies still available. likely to use them as an excuse to buy things after she had set a budget for herself. or somebody that coerces danbi into buying something whenever she visits their store... not like it takes much to convince her anyway

her go-to person. she has opened up to this person more than she'd like to admit, and trusts them more than she thought she would. considers them to be like another sibling, but most of that was never shared.

casual friends. most of your conversations have no substance, but you're a familiar face and she enjoys the lighthearted exchanges you two have... she likely doesn’t even remember exactly how you two met, but all she knows she enjoys your company.

someone who stepped into gwangtaeg gym and instantly became a victim of the danbi experience™. it doesn’t matter if you are a regular or it was a one time occasion, your fate was sealed the moment you step one foot inside the gym. danbi makes small talk with any gymgoer, and you were no exception. ( this could potentially result in workout buddies or budding friendships or on the other side, could result in the other being quite annoyed with her trying to start a conversation every time they visit if they wanted peace and quiet)

failed talking stages/situationships. could be due to gyuri’s unwillingness to be vulnerable, potentially leaving the other feeling more neglected? idk she a lot of issues that could be the reason why it failed tbh.

these were just some quick ideas i thought up to compensate for still not having a plots page, but we can brainstorm ideas that suit our muses as well !!
