I just realize that Madame Monstrosity is a possible nod or reference to Toei's 1978 Spider-Man tokusatsu main villain Professor Monster I could just be overthinking this but I love it any way!
"Giant robots in toku? You're probably gonna do something sentai, right?" WRONG. THE EMISSARY FROM HELL, SPIDER-MAN 🕷️
My greatest sin as a toku fan and Spider-Man fan is that I haven't seen this show yet. And yet, the Soul of Chogokin Leopardon is one of my most sought after figures... Did you know he has a nendoroid? I need him, for my spirit.
So a fun thing about me is I'm a big fan of physical media, and as a sort of natural extension of that, I've started collecting a lot of bootleg DVDs and Blu-Rays. When I was a kid they were the sort of thing where someone would come around to your house with a big bag of them in those little plastic disc protectors that made them look like cheese singles. Now there are a bunch of websites that sell them, though they can be tricky to find sometimes because they (for obvious reasons) don't often advertise their services.
This is a VERY long winded way of saying I have a super eclectic collection of tokusatsu and Kaiju stuff. I might be the only person with a subbed blu ray of Godzilla Island (Season One). I've got Supaidāman (Toei's tokusatsu Spider-Man), I've got Zone Fighter, I've got Spectre Man. I've even got copies of a few classic-but-hard-to-come-by Toho films like Frankenstein vs Baragon and War of the Gargantuas ordered but not here yet.
This is all an extremely roundabout way of saying that even though Gigan is one of my favorite Kaiju and I have ready access to Zone Fighter, I still haven't gotten around to watching the episode that features his showa era canonical death.
I would kill for a Supaidāman anime in the style of SSSS.Gridman/SSSS.Dynazenon. Maybe we'd get to see more than the same mech footage over and over again. Ooo and maybe Takuya could actually race motorcycles. Wouldn't that be something?
I totally forgot that I've contemplated a Spider-man anime before I actually got around to watching that show. I really wanted Spidey to transform like a magical girl. And I really wanted him to have an adowable talking spider sidekick. There was a talking spider early on in Supaidāman that died within an episode, so that'd be easy enough to fit in.
Too many people crowding my comfort zone on the way home. Had trouble falling asleep last night, due to ADHD Creativity excitement. Ergo, the groggy public transportation traveler during the afternoon.
While my grandfather’s GP-7 sits in the garage awaiting repairs, you can purchase your own Hot Wheels version. This is a fairly recent toy, so you can find it on eBay, Amazon, etc.
