LWJ and LXC nearly fight over who gets to spend more time with the baby

The Lan sect's budget acquires a sizeable gap due to "unforeseen expenditures". The unforeseen expenditures are the fact that LXC took A-Yuan to see the merchants in Caiyi Town and he made irresistible puppy dog eyes at him at the toys stand

"Where is Zewu-Jun? We need to talk to him about-"

"He's playing tag with A-Yuan, and specifically instructed us not to disturb him unless someone is dead or dying."

A-Yuan becomes Zewu-Jun's super cute advisor whenever he has to do paperwork/make decisions. He writes important things down while A-Yuan sits next to him and draws pictures with his expensive brushes. He may or may not chew on the delicate handles too, but that's okay, it gives them character.

There was this one fic I read maybe back in 2021, where wangxian had had more than just Sizhui as a kid (i think it was two) and their youngest kid got lost and everybody was going crazy searching for him. The kid is eventually found by Wen Ning, thinking he was about to find wwx, because the kid was whistling like he’d seen wwx do and after all is said and done, the kid had to promise not to do it again. In the meantime WY thinks he gravely injured lz and goes to cloud recesses to seek punishment, there he hears that LZ is dead from LQR and lan elders. WY screams gutwrenchingly and by thing LQR realises that WY actually loved LZ. But he cannot tell anything to wy because lxc forbade him.

I think wwx receives the 33 lashes? but I'm not sure. He stays at cloud recesses and WY's psyche gets worse and worse through the years.

LWJ wakes after 13 years

After 13 nhs asks wy to come to qinghe and sends him a map to the place. Nhs doesn't tell wy lwj is alive.

Wwx at this point reallt believes that lwj is dead.

At unclean realm wy finds lwj w lxc and thinks he is a hallucination and breaks down. His mental state is so fucking sad it takes him a long while to accept lwj is real. final thoughts

the story is good the only bit i struggle with is naming conventions but im sure ill figure it out as i go. The book is funny but part of me is kind of annoyed how they treat mental illness. like i know i am absolutely taking it to seriously but as someone who has a close relative with a lot of the issues they’re poking fun at it seems a little mean spirited idk

watching mdzs episode 2 and wow i didn’t expect jiang cheng to sound like that ... he’s got the cool bad guy serious voice i love it A LOT, it really makes me see him as the intimidating clan leader that he was supposed to be in the novels and manhua. when i was reading the novels his voice in my head was younger but sounding irritable or assertive. this cool, collected and deep voice makes him scarier in a really good way. jin ling’s voice really suits him (the feisty little duckling with a short temper), and so do lan sizhui and lan jingyi (lan sizhui sounds a lot older than he really is but i love that they have a mature, calm and sombre sort of voice to suit his character). wwx is perfect, just hearing him speak puts a smile on my face. and i’ve yet to hear lwj speak, lol. super excited to hear his voice. 

i loved how they made the juniors get their little scene in ep 2 before finding the goddess. we got a cool swordfight between jin ling and lan jingyi (and a facepalm from an sizhui) wen ning’s introduction was epic, and then later on with jiang cheng and zidian, plus lwj arriving in time. loved that we also got some nice scenes of jin ling engaging in close and far range combat. he’s a little swordfighter and an archer too. can’t wait to see more of the juniors in combat later on in the series.

Jin Ling snorts and Zizhen slaps a hand across the younger boy’s mouth to shut him up. They both nod.

“Well, there was this older kid from a few years ago who came! Mo Xuanyu. And I always thought he was super weird but then he showed me something awesome.”

“I can’t believe you lost your virginity at a magic camp reunion.” Jin Ling was free of Zizhen’s silencing, most likely by licking, if the way the other boy was wiping his palm disgustedly on his pants was anything to go by. “Wait-isn’t Mo Xuanyu the one who’s like…my cousin or something? Did you lose your virginity to my cousin at a magic camp reunion?”

“I think he’s actually your uncle,” Sizhui supplies helpfully with a frown tugging at his mouth. Jingyi wouldn’t-

“I didn’t sleep with him! Oh my god! He showed me his ghost.”

“That’s a weird way to say dick,” Zizhen snorts.

“No, it’s an actual ghost! Like, oooooo, spooky!” Jingyi plays wobbles his voice up and down and wiggles his fingers in front of him. “Apparently he helped him get his shitty aunt to move out. Actually, Wuxian might be a demon. I’m not sure. It was very unclear.”

Tension Sizhui had not realized he was holding flushed out of him at this explanation. It’s not like it mattered if Jingyi slept with someone. They were eighteen, and Jingyi was cute and anyone would be lucky to…It’s just that he didn’t want to be left behind while his best friend was out there having mature experiences with older boys.

Sizhui just does not want to be left out. He wants to be able to Jingyi about this stuff. Relate to him. That’s all.

While I’m stuck on a bus in the snow slowly going home, have some random MDZS characters with hearing aids thoughts.

Wei Wuxian: our favorite flamboyant boy has black hearing aids with red earmolds that are glow in the dark if he can manage it. Unless it’s raining, he always wears his hair up so he can show them off because they’re fantastic and fuck you for suggesting he shouldn’t show them off.

Lan Wangji: white hearing aids with either white or light blue earmolds. Likes them to match his usual color scheme so it doesn’t catch the eye too much but is still apparent and open. Wears his hair off of them around people he’s comfortable with, but will keep his hair down over his ears around strangers. People can be really shitty to you to your face sometimes when you’re young and need hearing aids.

Nie Huaisang: black hearing aids with glow in the dark green. Likes to stand out in his own way, but also the glow in the dark is a great way to find them when he’s conveniently misplaced them so his brother can’t tell him to do things because he can’t hear. Usually has his hair just long enough to act as an umbrella in rain, but will tuck his hair behind them if he’s feeling confident and not “accidentally” losing them.

Jin Ling: flesh colored with transparent molds with gold glitter. Very sensitive about them so he doesn’t want them super visible, but he’s growing more confident and has taken a chance on people noticing them by getting glitter in his usual clear molds so he can eventually be as brave as his cool uncle with the bright red ones. Wears his hair down over them most all the time. Why give the bullies any more targets?

Lan Sizhui: has been brought up with the comfort of being able to choose when to wear them and when not to, and the idea that if he’s going to have them for the rest of his life he should get to have some fun with them. Probably has white and blue swirled together, or possibly white and red with black hearing aids either way. They make him happy to wear them so that’s the most important part. Has short hair because it’s nice to just gesture to his ears and have people see immediately if he needs them to speak up.

Lan Qiren: has the tiny in ear kind. He admits he needs them but doesn’t want them to be visible. Wears his hair in a style that doesn’t draw attention to his ears at all.

Jiang Yanli: flesh toned with either transparent or light purple earmolds. Unfortunately her loss has been treated as a problem so even though she’s moving into colors, she’s not ready to let people see them or tell people when she needs assistance. Reads lips very well because she doesn’t want to draw her mother’s ire making her repeat herself. Wears her hair down over her ears forever.

Jiang Cheng: needs them, will not get them “because he’s just fine without them” and makes his inability to hear anything your problem instead.

Characters in The Untamed, Ranked by the Extent to Which They Are “This Fucking Guy”

Sect Leader Yao: The ultimate This Fucking Guy. Chock full of opinions and all of them are bad. Couldn’t mind his own business if his own business was on fire. Also robs my terrible son Ouyang Zizhen of his rightful title of Worst Wig, which is rude and unnecessary. 10/10.

Su She: This Fucking Guy to such an extent that nobody knows his real name. I was shocked, upon rewatch, to learn that the other guy LWJ saves from the Waterborne Abyss and the guy who gives them up to the Wens were the same guy, and that guy was Su She. Only possible response to him is “who?” followed closely by “oh, THIS fucking guy.” So upset by his TFG status he does a bunch of murders about it. 10/10.

Wen Chao/Wen Ruohan/Wen Xu (tie): Could be chill about being villains but instead they’re all “bluh, bluh” about it like they’re a bunch of fucking Draculas. Nobody likes a try-hard, guys. 10/10.

Jin Guangshan: Can’t keep it in his pants; only person to achieve the title of This Fucking Guy literally as well as figuratively.  10/10.

Xue Yang: Look, he’s my emotional support sociopath too, and it’s very sexy of him, but imagine trying to have a conversation with him.  Such an edgelord he’ll stab a potato at you. People are constantly rolling their eyes as soon as his back is turned. 9/10.

Jin Zixun: Ugh. 9/10.

Lan Wangji: Listen, I love him, he is my favorite character, but you must admit that Lan Wangji is not exactly easy to get along with, and has no compunctions about being actively unpleasant to you if he doesn’t like you. I imagine meeting with him as Chief Cultivator being super stressful, even though he’s generally a pretty fair person, because the risk of being obliterated by a look of Icy Disdain is high. Su She is already launching a 20-minute rant about how he should be higher on this list. 7/10.

Wei Wuxian: I know. I KNOW. But my darling boy is a LOT. You can’t tell me the Lan disciples weren’t going “This Fucking Guy” during his class clownery. He and LWJ are constantly doing horny wrist grabs and staring at each other for a full minute of time, right in front of everyone’s salad. In the scene where the angry mob confronts him, they might as well be chanting “This! Fucking! Guy! This! Fucking! Guy!” Most of this is not his fault but he’d be exhausting to be around. Then again, so am I. 7/10.

Nie Huaisang: Nie Huaisang WANTS to be This Fucking Guy. Nie Huaisang is ACTIVELY TRYING to be This Fucking Guy. Nie Huaisang is angry he’s not higher up on this list but he’s just too Babie for me to give him more than a 7/10.

Jin Guangyao: “What?” you say. “How dare! Villainry!” But this is not a list of Who is a Bad Person, it’s a list of Who is This Fucking Guy, and JGY has spent too much of his life in positions where he can’t be This Fucking Guy indiscriminately. His dad and Nie Mingjue both think he’s TFG for their own reasons, but to people in general? Customer Service Smile all the way, baybee. Points off for all the murdering, though. 6/10.

Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan (tie): Happy to swoop in for some dramatic swashbuckling, completely uninterested in doing any of the ensuing administrative work. Like those people who only want to work on the fun part of the group project and then make the rest of the group do the rest. Would never say it, but deffo think they’re better than you. 6/10.

Jiang Cheng: Unless you are a demonic cultivator he’s torturing to death for complicated emotional reasons or his estranged brother-in-law, Jiang Cheng keeps his TFG tendencies more or less in check. 6/10 mostly for his behavior toward Lan Wangji specifically.

Lan Qiren: The actual literal Fun Police. Only reason he’s not higher on this list is because he never goes anywhere so most people aren’t exposed to his TFG-ness. 5/10.

Jin Zixuan: The flashback portion of The Untamed is, in a sense, the story of Jin Zixuan’s journey from This Fucking Guy to Wife Guy (and then Dead Guy 😬) Averaging out to a 5/10.

Nie Mingjue: We all know how I feel about da-ge, but man does Nie Mingjue think he’s right about everything. He’s willing to listen to arguments to the contrary and change his opinion based on new information, which is cool and better than a lot of people, but he really thinks he’s got it all figured out and has spent pretty much 0 time unpacking that. 5/10.

Lan Xichen: He’s like that guy in high school who’s like super hot and a big jock and smart and student body president and you can’t even hate him because he’s also really nice?? And somehow all that combines to make him, just a little bit, This Fucking Guy. 4/10.

Wen Ning: A baby. A precious baby. However, I am almost positive that his cousins referred to him as This Fucking Guy on occasion in between being Draculas. 2/10.

The Juniors: I don’t think it’s fair to rate the juniors on their This Fucking Guy-ness, because all teens inherently have a soupçon of TFG — it’s natural. N/A, with the exception of:

Lan Sizhui: Best boy. Number one best boy. -1000000/10.

thoughts on wei wuxian's dadhood or lack thereof re: a-yuan?

Oh man.

My thoughts are two-fold:

1) Symbolically, going forward from the end of canon, it's super important that he and Lan Zhan have a kid. He's got his whole domestic fantasy, riding around on the donkey like his parents being a nuclear family with a little one, which gets brought up before the readers know the full tragedy of the Wen remnant massacre. (One of those classic MXTX moves!) But, lo and behold, in fact the little one he thinks of and mourns at the time is actually okay, he's grown up into the delightful and perfect Lan Sizhui, the son anyone would want. It's important to the narrative and it's important to Wei Wuxian.

2) Back at the Burial Mounds Wei Wuxian was a fun big brother type who did a lot of babysitting of a kid who was being raised by a whole Wen family community on account of his parents being brutally killed. Then A-Yuan was taken in by the Lans and became a Lan; by the end of canon he knows he is also a Wen and is going to go honor his birth family. It's Hella Complicated, and everyone in the story knows and understands that it's complicated, and I'm not crazy about canon-setting interpretations that squish it down into "Wei Wuxian is his dad" because I don't think that's how the situation would read to any of the characters involved or the people around them. Wei Wuxian is extremely important in his life and going forward will have a father-like role, and that's awesome; and Lan Sizhui will continue to be a Lan and also a Wen, and that's awesome too.

Anyway, I feel like it's a cultural setting where in general it’s a lot more normal for someone to be taken in by a family in some capacity--servant? foster kid?--and for everyone to have a nuanced understanding that they have ties to this family and also to their blood ancestors.* In modern AUs you have a whole different set of circumstances going on and that's totally fine and cool.

(Speaking of totally fine and cool--going back to point one, I do also think that fatherhood is a big part of the story, and I love to bits all kinds of content with dads Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji.)

....Basically I bet someone more knowledgeable than me could write a whole thing about tensions between the collective family concept and the nuclear family concept in MDZS.

I understand why wwx doesnt really make his methods known to the public/ doesnt want to teach anyone his methods. Yes, his path is super dangerous (for the world) if you arent a genuinely good person. That being said...it always leaves me sad that this means that once he dies, no one will know of all the cool stuff he discovered/did.

Anyways, all this to say, I believe someone like Sizhui would be able to handle it. Let Wei Wuxian have a disciple to pass his knowledge onto.

You know we know from MXTX that in spite of MXY's potential, WWX with LWJ's help will cultivate his own golden core and catch up.

Considering their "every day is every day" dual cultivation situation I don't think it's completely beyond the realm of possibility that they attain immortality.

As for cultivating with resentful energy, like you said WWX seems particularly, maybe uniquely equipped, to wield resentful energy, because he's not a resentful person and he's not beguiled by power. He doesn't mind sharing his inventions if they can be beneficial, but he's very circumspect about what he's sharing and he doesn't seem inclined to teach the more sensitive aspects but rather still prefers the usual means :

Lan SiZhui, “If so, Senior Wei, why not summon the corpse and ask it directly?”

“I refuse.”

“Huh?”

Wei WuXian responded without hesitation, “You know how much blood it takes to draw a Spirit-Attraction Flag? I have a weak constitution.”

Lan SiZhui really thought he was too lazy to let out blood, “Senior Wei, you can use my blood.”

Yet, Wei WuXian burst out with a laugh. He spoke, “SiZhui, to be honest, this isn’t the problem. This time, we came here for you to gain more experience, didn’t we?”

Lan SiZhui paused in surprise. Wei WuXian continued, “Of course I can summon the corpse and directly make it leave. But, can you?”

Hearing this, Lan SiZhui immediately understood.

After having been through a series of events, both he and the other juniors of the GusuLan Sect had begun to rely on Wei WuXian a bit too much. Summoning spirits and controlling corpses were indeed the quickest way, but not everyone was able to use such a means, and it wasn’t as if he cultivated the ghostly path. And thus, to him, it wasn’t the best to study too much of these skills. If this time again, Wei WuXian did whatever he was good at and solved the mystery in just a few tries, how could it be gaining experience?

This time, Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi were here to take him through the ordinary path, to see how this matter could be dealt with through the usual means.

After all once you put something in the world it's impossible to take it back or control it. It must have been frustrating for him to hear of Jin Zixun trying to force people to carry spirit attraction flags for ex:

Wei WuXian, “Fine. I don’t mind explaining it in greater detail. You couldn’t catch the bat king and happened to run into a few of the Wen Sect’s disciples who were there to investigate the same thing. And so, you threatened them to carry spirit-attraction flags to be your bait.

... Wei WuXian, “Did I say something wrong? Forcing living people to be bait and beating them up whenever they refused to obey—is this any different from what the QishanWen Sect does?”

It has been many years since Wen Ning last celebrated his birthday. In fact, he doesn't even remember when he actually celebrated it last -who could blame him, with the life he's had? And anyway, with him being technically dead, he isn't sure he even should be celebrating a birthday anymore at all.

But all that stuff doesn't seem to faze the juniors at all - because they've (with master Wei's and Hanguang-Jun's help) prepared him a very thoughtful gift this year: a spa day. Now, Wen Ning has no idea what a spa is, but he figures it's good, because even young master Jin said he has a personal one, and Jinlintai is known for luxury.

First, Wen Ning has received three sets of new, tailor-made robes. They're obviously very high quality and finely embroidered, with a note from young master Jin: "Please wear these so you don't have to look so ratty anymore. You're the Ghost General, you should look the part. Also, this is a thank you for saving me back there in Guanyin Temple. And in Yi City. P.S. I know you're sorry for what happened with my dad. We'll work through it. Happy Birthday!"

If he could still cry, he would have.

Next, A-Yuan - no, Sizhui - has gifted him three new pairs of shoes. "Jingyi and I couldn't decide, so we bought them all. We hope you like them!"

"They're super sturdy so you can still do your cool ghost general stuff wearing them! And we also got you socks!"

Ouyang Zizhen hands him a beautiful black box of hairpins and a handmade comb. "Hair is very important in one's appearance, Wen-gongzi. My mother's clan specializes in carving combs and hair pieces, and I hope you will wear them with pride."

The last gift is collaborative. A massive basket brimming with expensive soaps, bath oils, shampoo and perfume, each with little notes on what they're for and how to use them. Wen Ning can recognize Hanguang-Jun's calligraphy and finds himself touched by the gesture. He has been quite sure Hanguang-Jun did not like him very much, with the way he acted a while ago...

Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji arrive last at Wen Ning's little party, with good reason. They've convinced the Lan elders to allow Wen Ning to live in the Cloud Recesses in a spare guest house, and they've been spending the last few days furnishing it.

"I'm going to get very emotional right now," Wei Ying says, taking a deep, shaky breath, "But you and Wen Qing and everyone that's sadly no longer around, you guys have been my home and my family when I had nothing. And I always regretted not being able to do more for you. But now I can and I hope I'll be able to offer you the home you deserve here, in a peaceful, clean place."

Wen Ning shakes with the emotion of everything that's happened and knows to do nothing but pull everyone in a tight ("too tight, Wen-gongzi, we're dying") hug - before he's being taken to visit his new home.

It's modest but nice, and that's more than Wen Ning could ever ask for. His mouth twitches when he notices his bathtub is the same sturdy kind that Wei Wuxian has custom ordered.

"You never know, A-Ning." he says, and winks. "Maybe you'll find someone to break bathtubs with as well!"

"Wei-gongzi!! The children!!"

"It's fine, everyone knows what happens with the bathtubs." Jingyi says, casually. "It's Cloud Recesses lore."

"We should let Wen Ning enjoy his new home and his gifts now." Hanguang-Jun elegantly speaks as he ushers the kids out, and wishes Wen Ning a quiet happy birthday before walking out.

In his little kitchen, Wen Ning finds a bowl of Master Wei's super spicy congee.

At least he doesn't have taste buds anymore.

The Cloud Recesses comes alive with gossip the next day, rules be damned - everybody wants to know who the fine young master living in the eastern guest house is! He's so handsome and so polite, finely dressed and smelling of the most expensive perfumes, young ladies and young masters trip over themselves in his presence!

"As they should." Wei Wuxian comments and there is nobody to argue against it.

Another Fucking Fix-It AU Because Canon Couldn't Give Them a Break

So my friend- the same one I was DMing when feral time traveler Lan Xichen popped into my head- who introduced me to this series said “you’re not gonna be able to think about anything else” and fuck you @adoni-pike1261​ for being right.

Now *cracks knuckles* I’m actually going to be writing a corresponding fic for this, but it’s still fair game, I love seeing other people’s interpretations of my work be it other fics, fanart, memes, anything.

Thusly I present: Ghost Wei Wuxian AU.

Wei Wuxian dies.

Wei Wuxian comes back as an extremely powerful ghost, haunting- of all people- Jin Ling.

AU under the cut

So Jin Ling grows up with his cool ghost friend Wei Ying! Wei Ying is really cool, and super powerful, and knows all sorts of stuff about monsters and talismans and cultivation, and sometimes he just invents things on the spot. For fun. He's the coolest. And he's sticking around because Jin Ling's mother told him to.

He knew her. And his father. He knew them both.

Wei Wuxian swore an oath to his dying sister to keep her son safe, and this is how he keeps it; reminding the kid to eat, and sleep, and take it easy on himself. He plays translator for Jiang Cheng and teaches A-Ling everything he wants the kid to know.

Jin Ling loves Wei Ying. He messes with Jiujiu's hair if he's not paying attention to him, and he says Jin Ling is a Jiang and that means he can do anything. He tells him to live for justice and to love as much as he possibly can.

Jin Ling tells people he loves them. Wei Ying is his godfather, he named him (Jiujiu never told him that) and Wei Ying says to him one bright summer day to tell people if he loves them. You won't have the chance to do that one day, and one day might be tomorrow, so take that chance while you have it.

So Jin Ling tells everyone he loves that he loves them. He still grows up maladjusted and moody and angry but for this one thing that Jiang Cheng for the life of him cannot figure out. Whenever they part, Jin Ling's last words to him are always I love you.

Wei Ying gets sad sometimes, but not like Jiujiu gets sad. Jiujiu gets sad and hides with anger- Wei Ying gets sad and hides it with happy, or just plain hides. Wei Ying says Jiujiu is grieving, he hasn't moved on from his sister, and privately Jin Ling thinks Wei Ying must not have either.

Wei Ying is his godfather, his favorite teacher in the whole wide world, his ghost friend who promised his mother he would keep Jin Ling safe.

Wei Wuxian. Wei Wuxian is the Yiling Patriarch. Wei Wuxian killed his parents, raised the dead, bringer of hell and master of puppets and in a realm of nothing but evil Wei Wuxian reigns king.

Jin Ling doesn't actually remember what did it, in the end. Which idle remark lined up too perfectly with history lessons, or who said some random little fact, but in the end he's twelve when he realizes that Wuxian was a courtesy name and Wei Ying looks exactly like him.

This is how Jin Ling learns that the man who's saved his life too many times to count (and he always ran when his godfather asked, he never wondered how he got rid of so many monsters-) is the same man who destroyed it in the first place.

He wants to hate him. He tries to hate him.

He can't. The Jiangs say attempt the impossible- not achieve it. He attempted it. He failed.

Wei Wuxian is Wei Ying, and Wei Wuxian is suddenly, uncomfortably human. He lost everything, and he lost everything first, before anyone else lost everything to him.

Wei Wuxian is the only person who tells stories about Jin Ling's parents. He never forgave himself, he never moved on, but still Jin Ling remembers his ghost plastering on a smile and telling him about how his mother fished Jiujiu out of a river.

Jin Ling turns thirteen and starts asking his godfather about the Sunshot Campaign, and what the hell even happened to set it off anyways. Wei Wuxian tells him amidst archery practice, and Jin Ling is fifteen years old when Wei Wuxian smiles- a real smile, a proud smile, tinged with nothing but that pride, no sadness, no melancholy- and tells him he just surpassed his father and Wei Wuxian both.

Jin Ling is sixteen when Wei Wuxian vanishes, and he is still sixteen when he finds him again and meets Wen Ning who was set up but is still kind of the guy who killed his dad (it's a mess) and then Jiujiu asks him who his new friend is, and Jin Ling answers truthfully.

"He's my favorite teacher and he's saved my life too many times to count."

Then the mask comes off and there's a lot of shouting. Like. A lot of shouting. Then it turns out that Wei Wuxian and Hanguang-jun are a two pack, and Jin Ling gains an uncle, a couch to crash on when his family is being his family, and the ability to spend way too much time at Cloud Recesses with Sizhui and Jingyi.

Sizhui who is Wen Yuan.

Eh. Wen Ning is cool. He's glad Sizhui has a cool uncle to offset his disaster dads.
