3x10 Superman&Lois Spoilers

Season three, episode ten Superman and Lois spoilers.  Also negative about the series except for one scene. 

Ironically this was probably the most understandable and reasonable Clark-is-Superman reveal in this show since they moved to Smallville. 

But I would not be surprised if it got pushback because it came from three rather unneeded reveals in season two with its terrible “privacy is bad actually��� message. Or wonder why Clark didn’t knock him out which would be dangerous but again, this is after three people who didn’t...really need to know nor did the show bother trying to establish that beyond the “privacy is bad actually” message season two ended up with. 

Kyle doesn’t need to know either but at least they decided to show exactly why it ends up with him knowing.  Like Kyle was not budging, he wasn’t backing down. He was refusing to get off the property. He managed to narrow the suspects down to the Kents meanwhile people were screaming in pain and Clark was trying to get Kyle away. But Kyle was absolutely refusing and people were screaming in pain.  The choice was either keep trying to get Kyle to go away, letting a lot of people - one who is Lois Lane  - be hurt and killed because Kyle was absolutely refusing. Or fly off in front of Kyle to save the people crying out in pain. No contest, of course Clark is going to choose the latter.  Imagine if this had been the first Clark-is-Superman reveal of the show. The absolute twist and shock it would have been near/at the end of the episode.  But after three - frankly unneccessary and poorly-done although tbf at least Sarah discovered in the middle of a fight - reveals, it simply doesn’t land. It’s expected, not shocking. Treating it like a twisty cliffhanger doesn’t work when everyone saw the twist coming because you’ve done it three times very clumsily already.  Which is a shame because take this scene out in isolation and it’s executed really well. Imagine if this was the first reveal outside the family in the show. The things that could have been.

@undertheknightwing @sarahsharpe1231 I noticed there's been a lot more Jon power talk this season than the previous two, which makes me wonder if something is gonna happen with him and he'll be a part of the cliffhanger ending.

I saw this conversation and I wanted to butt in here because YES. There is a suspiciously large amount of references to Jon not having powers and being Kryptonian this season.

In previous seasons, the most they ever talked about Jon having powers was the X-K arc and that was mainly contained to Jordan thinking Jon had powers for one episode and how Jon's relationship with Clark is terrible. And then of course, Jon-El appears which led to Jonathan's famous line of 'Maybe if I had powers you'd actually listen to me." Cough cough...but that's actually it. They never, not once, say Jonathan is Kryptonian. Ever.

But this season, hoo boy! I wrote about this several episodes ago actually, but there's been more since!

Straight away in 3x01, they contrast Jonathan learning to drive with Jordan flying, and Jonathan finally goes to the fortress reminding us he's Kryptonian.

In 3x06, they have Jonathan talking to Sophie about how he's left out in his family as they're all 'big deals' and he's not considered a big deal because he doesn't have powers. This is also the same episode where they highlight Kryptonian/human hybrids.

In 3x07, Jon goes to the fortress but this is the episode where Jon calls himself human and that he's not like Clark and Jordan. Lois even says "Jon's just scared. I think seeing me like this is a big reminder that he's not like you and Jordan" which has always confused me as to why Lois would specifically say this when he appeared to be worried for her and not for himself - it seemed odd to highlight this multiple times in the episode...and then of course, Clark says the wonderful words to Jonathan, "But I want you to remember that you are just as much Kryptonian as your brother. And he's just as human as you are."

In 3x08, we have Jordan being an asshole again and telling Jon "I have heat vision, and you're taking coffee orders!" Sarah tells Jordan that he's rubbing it in Jon's face that he has powers and Jon doesn't.

In 3x10, Kyle comes to the house believing Jonathan has powers and tries to confront him. Jon seems incredibly surprised that Kyle would even suspect him with a close-up shot of him saying "Me?" like yes you Jon - why would you be so surprised at this? And why highlight his surprise this much?

In 3x11, we have Jonathan saying this, "You know what happens to me when I'm in a really bad spot? Nothing. I'm just still in a really bad spot, and I don't get some superpower. You should consider yourself lucky." Hmm...there's really no reason for him to even say this in that conversation...plus they kind of imply that Jon is just far more chill than Jordan and powers pop up when you're NOT CHILL.

I swear, they've been making this so noticeable for so many episodes now - never before have they paid so much attention to Jonathan's powerlessness and how he's 'not like Clark and Jordan'. Not to mention the amount of time they have spent showing Jonathan is incredibly good and kind and truly Superman's son.

If they don't do something with all this set-up, then I have no idea why they have written the show like this.
