#OnThisDate: Hello March!! Please be a better month for me than how last month went in my personal life… Last year (3/1/2022), I ate breakfast at Duncan’s Dairy Bar with a client for a potential writing opportunity and picked up, I think, a hot Matcha Latte, at the nearby Dunkin’. Today in the mail (3/1/2023) came my first ever FRONT PAGE feature in TheSpot518!! Since I began contributing in 2016 had I never had a story of mine featured as a top story until now. This was one good piece of news I heard on Monday about this feature landing front page. The Art Associates Gallery Inc will have their art opening for “The Art of Photography” this upcoming Friday, March 3, & it features the talents of 24 Capital Region photographers. You can also read my piece on Marie Louise Samuels, a black taxi driver from Peckham - who, following a road accident and other challenges made the choice to train and sit the Knowledge test. It's a super tough and passing is required in order to become a registered black taxi driver (a test that also has a 97% drop-out rate). Despite black taxi drivers and cabbies in general becoming more and more diverse, women still make up a very small percentage of them. Imagine what the numbers are like for women of colour. Now more than ever, hyperlocal news is critical. As a volunteer-run publication, @logansquarist relies on the passion of neighbors like you who love Logan Square to enable us to socialize the neighborhood. LoganSquarist has been a longstanding facilitator in the community and we hope to continue to serve that role. From cancelled events to changing the way we socialize, 2020 has hit us all hard. At LoganSquarist, we too have felt this strain, while volunteers juggle more on their plates, typical outreach opportunities are no longer safe and we rely more on virtual-only interactions.
