Death of the mind followed by a life of servitude. I disagree with that practice.

If you erase every trace of someone's current mind and personality, then you have killed them, even if the body still lives. That's not rehabilitation, that's the death penalty with an extra step.

But say you do completely erase the personality and mind; then there's no reason to imprison or punish the body that remains. If you erased the previous mind, then the new mind you create with implanted memories/etc. is a new person, one not guilty of the crimes the previous mind committed. Punishing them is no different than punishing a child for the crimes of their parent.

The only difference between this and shoving the guy out an airlock is this way, the state gets a legal slave.

The Rune brothers are also finding that unfortunately it's harder to cut ties with an abusive family than one might wish.

🥰 Pretend to Be Nice (Interdepartmental Cooperation #2) (seekwill) - 57K, GO Gabriel/Beelzebub - same universe as Golden Handcuffs, just as good as that fic - I love a fic where two jagged edged people learn to see how their broken pieces fit together

🥰 Unknown (Rath & Rune #3) (Jordan L. Hawk, author; Joel Leslie, narrator) - On the hunt for the Book of Bone. Widdershins may know its own but the Old Families definitely still cause a lot of harm

😍 The 70 Days After Groundhog Day (Ptelea) - really great Batfam fic - Dick's POV, focusing on Jason & Dick but also about Jason's relationship to everyone after a 53-day timeloop that only Jason can remember
