My first submission for this year's @tolkienrsb - Eärwen and Finarfin meeting in Alqualondë. Amazing @thelordofgifs absolutely delivered with the fic she wrote for this art, "Swan Song" (watch out for link reveal on september the 6th!)

This piece was a blast to work on, and the collaboration was amazing. I had a lot of fun colouring the details here, and Ghosti captured the fairytale atmosphere of it all so well - I'm so excited to read the whole thing!

I’ve been playing ClanGen all afternoon specifically to draw its events, and we’re one year in. I noticed, through that year, that the leader/deputy duo Yellowstar and Swanfeather have been… developing as characters.

Basically, Yellowstar’s gone from a bloodthirsty leader to a light cartoon villain, where she’s evil but doesn’t really do any crime. Swanfeather, meanwhile, has become a massive loser- having a huge crush on a woman who will never notice her (to a creepy degree), deloping a grudge on a CHILD, and sending another clan’s apprentice home in tears.

Hell, Yellowstar even let a Kittypet into Sunclan! She hates outsiders!!

But still, the Medicine Cat better keep the prophecy he received about his new adopted daughters under wraps… who knows what she’d do?

I'd love to! Swanfeather is straight up a total loser. He's very outgoing and kind but is pretty bad at reading/interpreting social queues and tends to rub a lot of people the wrong way. Super polarizing in his social circles because a lot of people may see him as very nice person, if a little naive for his age, but also many people see him as an irritating buffoon. He left his original clan to join Dawnclan after catching wind that his daughter (who's being retconned? currently if I remember) was joining Dawnclan too. He wants to be a dad very bad!

swanfeathers, a bodyguard crush fiction.

ahn mirae's life has been going down in a slow spiral since her accident - or had it started going down before that? at what point? when she was 18 and her life was signed away onto an idol contract with her twin? or when she was 20 and the glow of the limelight dimmed just enough for her to see the grime past it? it doesn't matter really, it's in the past and, now, she's here: 25 and aimless, carelessly drifting along for the last two years since burning her idol career into ashes. after an incident with a long-time stalker, mirae's father's takes matters into his own hand. he moves mirae and her twin sister, narae, into a new apartment, and he hires a bodyguard to protect mirae until her stalker in caught. at 31, kang hyeonsu is just looking for a stable job that pays well enough to get him back on his feet. he's never been one to give much attention to celebrities or idols, so as far as he knows, ahn mirae is just another rich businessman's daughter. hyeonsu treats her like a person and mirae is ... different than he expects. with each passing day, attachment becomes unavoidable.

Birdstar is fairly friendly with all cats except Swanfeather who she already doesn’t like. She is closest with WIndspeckle.

Mistdapple isn’t very close with anyone except Birdstar and Larkpaw. She dislikes Russetshade.

Pebblepool has average relationships with most, but is closest to Mistdapple and Nightflower.

Swanfeather is Nightflower’s mother, and Nightflower is Blackpaw’s mother. Swanfeather isn’t close with anyone. 

Windspeckle is close with Russetshade and Blackpaw, but dislikes Scorchsong. 

Russetshade is somewhat close with Pebblepool and Nightflower, but is distant with everyone else in the clan. 

Scorchsong gets along well with everyone in the clan, but is drawn platonically to Birdstar, and has a bit of a crush on Nightflower. 

Nightflower considers herself friends with most cats in the clan, but is closest with Blackpaw and Swanfeather. 

Larkpaw is closest with Birdstar and Windspeckle. 

Blackpaw is closest with Larkpaw and Swanfeather.

Ridiculously annoying, no wonder Mistclan didn’t want him. Looking at him too long makes my chest hurt.

since technically all my headcanons are canon to the au, here's some fun facts about the boy :)

shadowstar currently has the most children out of all of the cats in this au, having a total of SEVEN biological kits and one step-son. he has two baby mommas, sugarstar and silentstar. his kits are swanfeather, cottontail, pruneseed, crowberry, ravenfur, spiderfoot, and blackthorn. (in order, those are sugar swan, cotton candy, prune juice, crowberry, witchberry, truffle, and black sapphire)

windrunner (wind archer) is actually his grandson! he's the son of swanfeather. by extension, since windrunner and herbpelt are mates, he is technically purestars in-law, which makes him wanting to drive purestar insane all the more ironic

shadowstar and elderstar were once very close friends, but elderstar started to see visions of who shadowstar would become and severed their friendship, which indirectly accelerated shadowstar's descent into madness. shadowstar was also the one to take elderstar's first life!

shadowstar's old concept design had him as an all-black tom with white spots. this design was scrapped while i was developing the AU in favor of his current design

if shadowstar had a chance to go back in time, he wouldn't, because he truly believes he is irredeemable and is content with his situation, when in actuality, he is not

shadowstar was a loner before he founded shadowclan

shadowstar was also the very first dark forest cat

plans to reincarnate shadowstar as sage of truth are in the works!

shadowstar and his fellow beasts did not have warrior names

shadowstar developed the current in-universe warrior code before his descent into insanity

in development, shadowstar was originally only meant to be mates with silentstar, but plans changed in favor of his relationship with sugarstar being a point of focus for her own downfall

appletail (candy apple) carries her obsession with him in CRK to this au, much to his ire

ok hear me out. uc gundam warrior cats au. in the distant future, when humanity has colonized space, clan cats end up coming with them to be "closer to starclan" and form clans either on other planets or in artificial forests aboard space colonies. several clans still remain on earth.

because of the clans being closer to starclan than ever before, some kits are born "star-touched" (this au's answer to newtypes) and have various psychic abilities gifted to them by starclan, which includes but is not limited to:

Future sight

Telepathy with other Star-Touched cats

Able to sense other Star-Touched cats near them

Walking in other cats' dreams

Heightened senses

Ability to leave their body at will to visit StarClan

Stronger connection to StarClan

Other canon-typical Newtype abilities

due to their abilities, most star-touched cats end up becoming medicine cats, but some still decide to become warriors.

also there isn't any mecha, just cats physically fighting with one another (sorry)

...thinking about swanfeather being sent to thunderclan when the clans send their super powered cats to bring back the water. not because thunderclan needs him, but because he's so worried for his littermates and can't really focus.

so mothwing makes the executive decision to send him to the clan whose territory the patrol left from to wait. he actually forms a relationship with leafpool while he's there and gets even closer to poppyfrost.

leafpool's finally able to dote on one of her kits and she wishes she could comfort him, wishes his worries were small things like the simple things kits worry over. so instead, she just tells him about the other side of his aunts' journey with his father.

she tells him how even though the forest was falling apart around them, her main worries were squirrelflight. squirrelflight, who ended up hurt many times, squirrelflight who almost drowned at the ocean and again in the tribe of rushing water's home. and she always wondered if it would be worse if she couldn't feel squirrelflight's pain and emotions, or if it would ease her fears...

and swanfeather comes to like his mother, comes to know his thunderclan family and... it makes things a bit easier to deal with.

...when the patrol comes back missing a cat from each of the clans except windclan, when the patrol tries to explain what happened and cats start accusing windclan of foul play, swanfeather's the one who yells at everyone and it surprises himself.

but should it really? frog-brained cats who didn't even know maplesplash other than his name are trying to argue that there's no way he would have saved someone else before himself!

...but it doesn't explain how thistleheart knew that day would have a horrible thing happen, or how maplesplash didn't get a single wound from the cats who killed dawnclaw and dandelionstem...

so firestar has explaining to do and it only makes swanfeather actually hate his living grandfather. if firestar had said anything about this fifth clan, maybe maplesplash would still be alive. maybe all the cats that died would still be alive...

okie so swanfeathers is an original fic of mine. it’s a bodyguard crush trope story. the main romance is between mirae (bae yoonji) and hyeonsu (woo do hwan), but there’s a whole cast of side characters too that i’m still working on casting and naming everybody send me your fav korean fcs please. i’ve started about 3 different scene fics already.

this thing is gonna be a whole ramble mess tbh. lets gooo

so ahn mirae is 25 and she’s an ex-idol. she was in a duo band called ‘lovish’ with her older fraternal twin, narae (bae yoon young). their stage names were ‘miso’ and ‘nabi’. they debuted a few months after their 18th birthday and were super popular for a handful of years. mirae was the lead dancer and narae was the lead singer, but they were both good at either role; narae was a professionally trained dancer where mirae had natural talent, and narae was more confident to take on more singing lines but mirae had ‘her songs’. when the twins were 23, they were on holiday with their parents and mirae ended up in an accident, landing her with a number of scars, in particular a pretty significant one on the left side of her face. a month after they returned home, lovish released their last song, ‘swansong’, and then went silent on social media for another couple months. mirae then released a video exposing her label for pushing her to get plastic surgery to minimise her facial scarring even after she’d firmly declined, and that another group under the same label - that goes unnamed for the appearance of ‘privacy’ - had been talking shit about lovish, starting before her accident and then even worse after. fans weren’t overly surprised to hear this from mirae since she’d been consistently earnest about her experiences as an idol and had a habit of pushing back against authority; fans had initially recognised this when the twins were 20, and they’d nicknamed that specific lovish era the ‘disillusionment era’ since there were multiple instances of mirae pushing back against her label, for example: refusing to wear specific performance outfits that they were trying to force on her, bts videos of her removing make-up that she didn’t like and refusing to go on extreme diets, etc. some fans respected her for standing up for herself, others thought she had ‘bad behaviour’ and she ‘should’ve known better before getting into the industry’.

since leaving the idol life, narae moved onto modelling, and mirae kind of. plateaued. she joined her sister in some modelling shoots, appeared in some music videos if she liked the songs, took some classes about art history, but mostly didn’t attach herself to anything fully. she found she had more time for archery, a hobby she’d had since high school and that she’d always been an ace at, often complimented for being at a near ‘olympic level’ after years of training.

what went mostly unknown about while mirae was an idol was that she had a stalker. he showed up at nearly every show, every public appearance, at the airport when they were travelling; he once wore a pair of hidden camera glasses to a fan sign that mirae didn’t notice but narae did. the twins had three main social media accounts: their own separate ones and one for lovish itself. the stalker followed mirae’s and would only interact with her content on the lovish account. eventually he started messaging her, he’d send her videos and pictures he’d taken of her. this continued even after lovish was disbanded. when mirae blocked him on everything, he took it further and delivered a package to the twins’ apartment - not through the mail, literally to their door. they contacted the police, but they were pretty unhelpful; she wasn’t ‘actually harmed’, she didn’t know who the stalker was or his real name, ‘what did she expect since she was an idol?’. it happens twice more over almost a year, envelopes full of candid pictures of mirae. then it comes to a head when the stalker attempts to kidnap mirae. narae shows up just in time and beats the guy away, but he manages to escape before the police show up.

the twins’ dad takes the matter into his own hands, finally making the sisters move into a new apartment and hiring a bodyguard for mirae.

enter kang hyeonsu.

hyeonsu is 31 … and has no real idea who ahn mirae or ‘miso’ is, nor what ‘lovish’ is beyond hearing about it in passing from news stories and from his friends who were fans. he claims it’s not his kind of music, and even so, he couldn’t tell you the members of his favourite bands with any kind of certainty. he goes in for bodyguard interview because he’s looking for a new job, and eventually gets hired after a rigorous interviewing process.

mirae does not want a bodyguard. she wasn’t even involved in the interviews because she was hoping her father would just give up. he doesn’t. so she’s stuck with hyeonsu.

when mirae manages to convince her father to let her have ‘one more day of freedom’, hyeonsu goes home and gives in to his roommate’s - and high school friend’s - nagging to tell him who the ‘new client’ was. immediately after being told, his roommate and roommate’s sister go all in, excitedly talking about lovish and groaning because hyeonsu is ‘so out of the loop’. hyeonsu eventually cuts them off, not wanting to pry into mirae’s life. he even considers looking into whatever incident incited the need for a bodyguard to be ‘invasive’.

when hyeonsu accompanies mirae to the gym for her archery training, she mentions her coach also being one of the gym’s boxing coaches and that she wants to ‘see hyeonsu’s skills for herself’. he eventually agrees. seeing him spar is the first crack in mirae’s walls.

she’d thought he was attractive when they’d first met and joked about it to try and break the ice, but now it was becoming a bit of a problem. she keeps it to herself, but eventually confesses to her sister when her crush becomes too much. narae is conflicted about it, wanting to support her sister but also recognising the inappropriateness of it.

the two slowly get closer. he’s impressed by her archery skills; she calls him when she has an anxiety attack while alone at her apartment; she likes being around someone who sees her as more than just ‘miso the idol’; he protects her from overwhelming fans and a shitty ‘friend of a friend’ who attempts to get handsy with her; they talk about their families and childhoods and their own interests. they get attached to each other.

hyeonsu tries to stay professional, to push his feelings down because she’s much younger than him and he was hired by her father, but can feel his resolve slipping with every day he spends with her. mirae kind of gives in to her feelings, but despite how forthright she usually is, can’t find a way to confess. they keep having ‘moments’, toeing the line, but neither are confident enough to make the first move and actually cross that line.

i just have. so many ideas for them.
