Triple Feature: Rebel Blue Ranch series 1-3 | Lyla Sage

I've read all three of the Rebel Blue Ranch series currently out (book 4 will be released in 2025!) These romance stories focus on members of the Ryder family who live on a ranch (Rebel Blue) in Wyoming. All three stories are 'spicy', and dual perspective. All of the stories clock in at around 350 pages (which is a great length for romance stories) and I think Sage's writing wonderfully captures different kinds of characters as they navigate different kinds of romance. I also think the covers are so stinkin cute.

I would recommend reading these in order, I started with book 2 and while I really enjoyed it, it did spoil how the characters of book 1 got together.

Done and Dusted

This is Emmy and Luke's story. Tropes: brother's best friend, strong FMC. Emmy is a champion barrel racer but after an accident she's too afraid to get back on a horse. She returns to Rebel Blue to figure out her life and Luke helps her move past her trauma.

Swift and Saddled

This is Ada and Weston's story. Major tropes: grumpy/sunshine, golden retriever boyfriend. Ada escapes a shitty ex-husband and is heading to Rebel Blue to help decorate a new b&b on the property. Wes is my favorite leading man I've read in a while. He's so kind and so supportive of Ada. I thought there was some great depression rep in this story and is my favorite of the series so far.

Lost and Lassoed

This is Teddy and Gus's story. Major tropes: single dad, enemies to lovers, and forced proximity. Teddy is a mess and Gus is dependable but when he finally admits he needs help the only person available is the sort of flaky Teddy. There's a lot of cuteness here if you like kids (Gus's daughter is a pretty active character here), and there's some very fun 'oh no we're stuck in this closet together' level shenanigans.

I love “Done and Dusted,” but what I feel for this book is on a whole other level! It absolutely blew me away. 

The mental health representation in “Swift and Saddled” is fantastic. As someone with major depressive disorder, I really resonated with Wes as a character. I enjoyed reading chapters from his perspective and connected to his fears surrounding his mental health. He is so open about how his depression ebbs and flows and I understood him on a deep level, which I feel doesn’t happen very often with male characters. He is definitely a golden retriever personified and I adore the way he respects Ada’s boundaries, champions her dreams, and loves her for who she is. Weston Ryder IS the blueprint!!

Ada and her “black cat” personality have a special place in my heart. I definitely related to her struggle to feel a sense of belonging. Nothing made me more emotional than when she shared how her loneliness stemmed from this perception that her true self wouldn’t be well received by other people. Watching her then find her place at Rebel Blue Ranch and form meaningful friendships with Emmy, Teddy, and Camille was everything!

Ada and Wes’ chemistry is electric from the get-go. I absolutely loved their dynamic! I feel like I’ve read so many books where the MMC has the more cynical characterization, so the role reversal was a breath fresh air.

This book captures more of the Ryder siblings’ close knit relationship and I could not get enough! The way they show up for each other made my heart melt.

Sage does such a great job interrelating her standalones. Past couples make appearances while she subtly plants the seeds for new ones. She does all of this without taking away from Ada and Wes’ story. I cannot wait for Geddy’s time to shine!
