Sad times. Very sad times. 😥

Story time:

I began drawing digitally on my phone about three years ago. It wasn’t easy and I only really imported line art and used the software to colour and make it fancy. I decided after deliberating a lot that it made sense to get an iPad and Apple Pencil. I got some of it paid for Christmas and I paid the rest. Since getting my pencil and iPad my drawing has transformed. I am able to create better things which take longer and would be much harder to create without the layering tools. I have also become used to using reference images to trace the line work which is probably not the best idea but it opened up a lot of things I otherwise wouldn’t be drawing. I’ve barely drawn on paper for a while now, again probably not the best but it helps set the stage.

Despite a case and a tempered glass screen protector my iPad screen got a crack right across it. I thought the crack was in the screen protector only to find when I went to change the protector that it actually had cracked the screen. I was devastated, obviously drawing on the screen would add pressure to the crack and eventually cause permanent damage. Apple suggests using one of their specific repair places but a screen repair from them would cost almost as much as getting a new, older generation iPad (£270).

I eventually followed my dad’s advise and got a new screen put on from a phone/iPad repair place which had very good reviews etc. It cost me £80.

I was so happy to get my iPad back, so relieved that I was going to be able to carry on with the art I have had in progress for a while and just to have the ability to work the same way once again.

Then I discovered the pencil no longer worked properly. After some research I discovered that the only way that an iPad could have a screen replacement which didn’t effect the pressure sensors for the pencil was if the screen was ‘cannibalised’ from another iPad. So it basically would be a bit dodgy.

My Mum, understanding how devastating this is for me at the moment, has agreed to do the same as I did with my first iPad, allowing me to buy half of it and she will pay the rest for my birthday but I wouldn’t have to wait for my birthday to get a new one. It would of course be cheaper this time as the pencil is perfectly fine and I will sell my original iPad as it works perfectly for someone who doesn’t need the pencil capabilities.

However I am in limbo at the moment, I can’t exactly ask my parents to speed up the process of getting me a new one as this is partly a present and they are being really nice in agreeing to do this. But I feel so lost and sad without my iPad.

I have plans to make a calendar, which I also hope I will be able to sell, but of course I would need to have the art all ready to go by probably late October in order to get the word out and get them selling. The plan was to do a modern more MCU- like take on the marvel swimsuit edition of many years ago. I also planned to try and sell the calendar as a physical copy and also as a pdf so that people would not have to pay for shipping etc if they didn’t want to.

I am simply a sad bean until I get it back and am having my eyes open to how much I have come to rely on my iPad for drawing more so than games/watching stuff/random video making etc. Having both Dyspraxia and ADHD (and asd but those two are the most relevant here) I am very accustomed to breaking stuff, no matter how important it is to me anything I own is at risk by clumsiness and forgetfulness combined.

Regardless of all of my sadness in this post I thought I might share some of my almost finished images for the calendar to try and get some people interested (maybe) and to cheer myself up.

Diverse Stardew Valley 4.0 Sneak Peak!

Hey everyone! DSV 4.0 is getting close to being done, so I thought I’d show off some of the cool stuff that’s gonna be included! 😊 I’ve also been sharing little snippets in the DSV Discord server recently, so if you’re not already a member, check our website for the link.

It’s pretty long and has a lot of images, so click through to see them!

The big news is that DSV 4.0 will move back to an all-in-one download (and will also be hosted on Nexus again) with a SMAPI component, DSV Core, which will consolidate all of the config options for more convenience. DSV Core is the hard work of KediDili from a concept originally by Nuztalgia!

It’ll also mean that other mods will be able to read your DSV config choices, which opens up a lot of potential for compatibility! Platonic Partners and Friendships users may be familiar with how this works, since PPAF has a similar feature and DSV is able to automatically provide compat depending on your PPAF config.

Options will be divided into different pages so that it’s not an overwhelming list of choices, and DSV Core will also automatically disable compatibility options for other mods if you don’t have that mod installed, so it’ll reduce some of the option clutter. We’ve also future-proofed the config so that you also won’t need to redo your config settings when we add more options in the future and added a function to automatically fix common typos in manually-edited config.jsons!

As you can see in the screenshot above, 4.0 will also add dialogue for many characters related to DSV’s variants! This feature has been much requested and a lot of people have contributed dialogue, so thank you to everyone who wrote some lines for us 💖 If you’re interested in helping out with dialogue as well, feel free to join the DSV server and chat to us about it!

Another major content update will be DSV’s swimsuits! We’ve updated all of the swimsuits to have fresh new designs, and there’ll be a new option for every character with a beach swimsuit in the vanilla game to use either the vanilla design (with some minor tweaks to clean up art issues & match DSV’s bases) or the DSV design.

Other stuff being included is a skintone saturation boost for modded Harvey and Black Emily and Haley, after feedback from our sensitivity checkers...

...and saving the best for last, DSV’s best girl Marigold will be making a return with updated art! She’ll be a non-friendable NPC and will require Sprites in Detail as a temporary measure until SDV 1.6 is released, but she’ll also have more dialogue, including dialogue from Linus about her, and new animations 🐕‍🦺

Archive Progress Report: 9/8/2020

I ended up taking the night off socially, but not for recording.

I’m having a lot of technical difficulties with the main story and now with the remaining magical girl side stories. I record via iphone and need to use an app called Handbrake afterwards to sync up the audio, but recently the audio simply isn’t syncing correctly at all, which is real obnoxious. TBH, if you can’t tell, I’m not very good at any of this and am sort of learning on the fly. Luckily, my remaining videos to work on are:

Next I’m working on finalizing all the quote videos. I actually don’t have much left to do here! Like I’ve mentioned before, Kizmin has recorded a ton of videos for me (in super high quality too)-- and with the characters I have, and @leafbladie‘s help, I actually have mostly everyone covered.

A few of these (from friends) are in a different format from what I can use, so I have to work on them in VLC Media Player first. I’ve been procrastinating on this part for a bit but I’m going to woman up soon and get it done.

After I finish with the MSS and the quotes, I’m going to work on the main story. Unfortunately, as I mentioned above, I’m having technical difficulties and all the footage I recorded a week ago was corrupted somehow, so I need to redo it. This has kind of... made me not want to work on it, which is why I’ve been focusing on MSS and easy event stuff. But!!! It’s time to stop avoiding it and get to work.

I’m going to continue to sprinkle in events here and there, but I’m going to let you all know RIGHT NOW that the last things I’ll be working on are the branching style events, so the Azaleas, See You Tomorrow, ect. These are really frustrating to record because of all the different paths and the different choices you can make in-story-- I’m going by the archive, but it still wants you to make choices and sometimes my dumbass brain is too tired to figure things out, if that makes sense. x_x 

I feel like the event stories are well documented online though, and I do still have lots of time... So it’ll all go up there, eventually.

I might do Breakpoint next because it was one of my favorite events and it might be a nice break. haahahaha. get it. break. break? I’m breaking apart myself, how are you guys?

I’d also like to give a MASSIVE shoutout to @leafbladie for having helped me so long with all the quote videos and with everything else. He has been so helpful and amazing this whole time. ;_; I want to plug the Ashley Taylor Memoria Collage/Zine Project (@ashleytaylormemoria​) real quick-- check it out and maybe try submitting stuff too :) I’ll be making an art piece for it as well! Winx (@thefairywithdrawings​) is also involved and overseeing all the design work.

I think that’s one of the nicest things going on right now... a lot of folks have different fan projects going on and are working together to make the best of a bad situation.

Future Plans

When the archive recording project is done, I want to write up a few posts on starting over on JP and how to use SE effectively. I know that there is a lot of really helpful (and frankly better) content out there already, but I still would like to add to it.

I mentioned before, but I do intend to start up the memoria review project up again, but that’ll be after everything else as well.

Tentatively... I might also make a unit review blog as well, which will go over characters and their various niches, along with a look into their SE, connects, ect. But that will be a whiles off from now and will require a ton of research.

Uhh I think that’s it! Thanks again for all of you guys’ support. I get overwhelmed easily and am not taking the whole situation well, but I’m trying to focus on my goals. It helps that the fandom is collectively working together right now.
