kitchen swingman anon once again here to bitch about J2. J1 thankfully seems to be leaving soon and doesn’t otherwise play into this story so i will simply refer to him as J here.
in the sort of venue hub where i work there’s a couple places outside of the restaurant i work for that have concessions stands, but don’t have their own onsite kitchen. pretty much since i started working here i’ve been handling one of them by preparing hot foods on their time rather than my site’s, which just amounts to two pots of soup and some assorted hand pies and delivery from kitchen to concessions. not difficult to do. i have a system and a set of specific tools i’m supposed to use to keep it consistent. i’ve gotten it down to a science.
i’ve been trying to get my tools re-separated from the general kitchen tools because the line has been using the nice bain-marie pans for the concessions to cook in/hold sauce for dinner service, and what used to be nice and shiny and polished and clean-looking has gotten kind of charred because they put it right on the burner and crank up the flame and let it boil dry or don’t stir it enough. it’s not unfixable but it is annoying. i finally got a couple of them separated out and put aside with the rest of my concessions supplies, and explained to the chef that i’d be doing so, which he approved. so the soup supplies are already put aside and ready to grab for use in the section of the kitchen where i always do this specific prep.
chef sends me on a long break today (nearly two hours) because i’ve done all the other prep i need and i don’t need to do much of anything else until i’m on the other clock for concessions, says he’ll make sure the soups are ready and to just come back to bake off the pies. so i’m like, cool, can do, and go get a nice lunch.
i get back to the kitchen and J has apparently been tending the soups. so i thank him, and i start to arrange the bain-marie pans that i already have set aside, which are clean, and ready to use, and simply need to have the finished soup poured into them. i specify this because this man turns to me and says “bruh, i’ve got some getting washed”
and i start to say my piece and he cuts me off to protest that i “don’t need to do all that” and start arguing with me like i don’t know how to do my fucking job so i just snap at him that “I’m supposed to use these for the concessions, that’s why i set them over here this morning, so i don’t have to hunt for them or wait for them to be washed.” and instead of apologizing because he didn’t know what the fuck he was talking about he acts like he wants to drop the topic because i’m the one being unreasonable for wanting to do things correctly, i guess.
on top of that he didn’t even cook the soups right. it’s a frozen concentrate that gets diluted in water. when i went to transfer from the cook pots to the bain-marie pans there was still a solid chunk of soup concentrate in both, meaning that it hadn’t been allowed to cook hot enough for long enough or hadn’t been stirred to allow the heat and liquid to work away at the ice a little more effectively. it was barely even to temp and had already been lowered to a simmer by the time i got back. fantastic!
i didn’t have the time or patience to say anything about it, because i needed to get everything transferred before concessions opened and we started dinner service, so i just ladled out what liquid i was able to and packed up the leftover because they made too fucking much of both. it takes two blocks to fill one bain-marie pot and if J was the one to prep it he almost certainly did that on top of whatever might have been saved to reuse from yesterday.
this is all on top of him blasting his music so loudly over bluetooth speaker that nobody can communicate even through shouting and i’m left with a migraine by the end of the night. i’m so fucking tired of this guy.

Willie Nelson Brings Outlaw Music Festival to Forest Hills Stadium
Tumblr media
Outlaw Music Festival – Forest Hills Stadium – September 17, 2023
You don’t so much attend a Willie Nelson concert these days as you conform to its warmly understated, sometimes leisurely, sometimes-invigorating pace. Then again, he’s always seemed to have that pause-a-sec-and-listen effect: Whether 30 or 90, delivering sad-eyed, tear-in-beer weepers, tender folk, inspiring hymns or outlaw country rousers, he’s got you. Hearing him play, surrounded by his adoring band, still has that time-stopping quality, and Forest Hills Stadium was in thrall to one of American music’s true and unimpeachable legends on a rainy but warm Sunday evening.
Tumblr media
The Outlaw Music Festival, a going concern for a while now, is Willie’s eclectic seasonal caravan, loading up a sprawling six-hour bill with a range of artists that don’t sound quite like Nelson but are at the same time just right for a show like this, underscoring his own lineage and place in the history of many potent strains of Americana. As ever, he and his impressive band crowned the show with an hour-long set of their own, setting a brisk but not workmanlike pace through his classics (“Whiskey River,” “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys,” “On the Road Again,” “I Gotta Get Drunk,” “Always On My Mind,” “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die”) and those of friends and favorites, including Billie Joe Shaver’s “I Been to Georgia on a Fast Train,” “Stay a Little Longer” from the Bob Willis catalog, “Move It On Over” from Hank Williams, and the immortal “Georgia on My Mind.” Willie’s sung these songs thousands of times, but each one still felt like a warm embrace, even the wistful ones, and even the ones for which he wouldn’t need to do more than go through the motions but is just too classy for that.
About the bill: There were plenty of willing conspirators and indeed, half the fun of a tour like this is the cross-pollination and spirit of collaboration that happens throughout. No less than Norah Jones — a surprise guest, unannounced — low-key sat in on keyboards for most of the Willie set. (It wasn’t even clear it was her until she took a few backing vocals and then a full verse of “I Gotta Get Drunk.”) Harmonica ace Mickey Raphael — a stalwart of Nelson’s band — joined for sections of earlier sets from Los Lobos, the String Cheese Incident and Bob Weir & Wolf Bros using a range of harmonica modes, from sawing roadhouse blues to sweet-’n’-tender folk. And as ever, Willie made his customary invite to many of the musicians, including a game and all-smiles Weir, to join in for the rootsy, hymnal “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” and several more selections, hootenanny-ing up the stage to close the night.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Weir’s Wolf Bros — one of the most interesting post–Grateful Dead bands and as oddly compelling a capture of Weir’s Weir-ness as any other group he’s been part of — got about 90 minutes to roam as the night’s coheadliner and more than made the most of it. The core trio of Weir, Don Was and Jay Lane has mushroomed on the road into a full ensemble, including Weir’s longtime swingman Jeff Chimenti on keys and ace pedal steel from Barry Sless, plus a sturdy horns-and-strings section called the Wolfpack. That bigness was well used here: “Jack Straw,” “Estimated Prophet” (neatly segued into its forever companion, “Eyes of the World,” which itself neatly segued into Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On”), the Sunday-special “Samson & Delilah” and a rollicking “Turn On Your Lovelight” were Grateful Dead staples all getting jammy workouts.
Earlier came a potent set from jam-bluegrass stalwarts the String Cheese Incident, somehow now approaching their own 30th anniversary. And earlier still came the mighty Los Lobos — themselves, whoa, 50 years along! — who played a ripsnorting 45-minute frame full of cumbia and full-boogie rockers, including the beloved “Georgia Slop.” 30 years? 50 years? So much beautiful longevity here, but the bar appears to be 90 years, gang. —Chad Berndtson | @Cberndtson

Junior Bridgeman Reportedly Buys 15% Stake In Milwaukee Bucks
by Daniel Johnson September 15, 2024 The former Milwaukee Bucks player is set to purchase 15% of the team. In a full circle moment, former Milwaukee Bucks swingman Junior Bridgeman is reportedly close to purchasing a 15% stake in the franchise he played for during much of his NBA career.  According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, the 70-year-old Bridgeman, whose number two jersey was retired by the Bucks, will be receiving a preferred limited-partner discount, which entitles him to a 15% stake in the organization.  According to CNBC, Bridgeman currently owns Jet and Ebony magazines. The deal indicates that the Milwaukee Bucks, a small market NBA franchise, are worth $4 billion. According to their sources, the NBA was expected to notify owners of the sale in a memo on Sept.12.  Bridgeman has created a net worth of over $600 million mostly through his success with various businesses including fast-food restaurants and operating a Coca-Cola bottling distributor. Neither the Milwaukee Bucks nor Bridgeman himself offered any comment on the sale to CNBC. Although the team finished third in the Eastern Conference last season, the team operated at a loss because it had to dip into the luxury tax and pay $52 million. According to Sports Illustrated, that figure is the fourth highest luxury tax payment in the NBA. The Bucks are expected to face similar luxury tax challenges in the 2024-2025 NBA season, with Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, and Khris Middleton earning $48 million, $45 million, and $31 million respectively. The team’s last ownership change occurred in April 2023 when Cleveland Browns owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam purchased a 25% stake from former co-owner Marc Lasry. At that time, before the NBA’s new TV deal, the Bucks were valued at $3.2 billion.
