Blurb: Having been relieved of her maid-of-honour duties after being unceremoniously dumped by the best man via text, Eloise decides to attend the wedding anyway...only to find herself seated with five fellow unwanted guests at the dreaded Table 19.
the conversation at the lotus house where li lianhua initiates a toast with wine, and says "then let's draw a line over the past" "to my new friend. my best friend" im having emotions about the fact that
fang duobing asks "what? new friend?" and li lianhua confirms - yes, new friend - with a "mm" before saying "my best friend"
visually speaking, this conversation/meal takes place RIGHT after li lianhua has a conversation AS li xiangyi with ah mian and zijin, in which he explicitly reassures them that li xiangyi will be gone, that he is ending his old life, and thus leaving his old relationships. this takes place when he returns to the lotus house as li lianhua and fang duobing is there, cooking. fang duobing who is part of his new life. even if he's been living as li lianhua for 10 yrs, this scene transition is symbolic
it's also symbolic that this scene takes place in the lotus house, moving caravan of li lianhua (wandering, cosy, alive), right after the previous scene which took place at the memorial place of li xiangyi (immobile, tied to his reputation, dead)
what i get from this is
li lianhua puts (once again) an end to his old life, draws a line over some old important bonds with formal goodbyes to them, and straight afterwards, symbolically officialises his most important bond in his new home, his new life, with fang duobing, where fang duobing has made his home
im going to die. this drama is going to kill me. im not okay.
August shakes his head, setting the water cup down. He does one more final check to make sure Daisy is going to be alright and then slips out behind the bar. The other guy from the back joins her and according to his co-worker, there should be someone else showing up to pick up the slack and end her shift.
“Nah, just helping out.” He smiles, another stool opening up so he sits beside her. “Seems like it’s a bit crazy in here, don’t want her to get overwhelmed and drown under IPA orders.”
Ryan nods, and it’s nice that he was helping Daisy out so she wasn’t as swamped. It is busy, as she looks around, lots of different people in here and she supposes that’s a good thing for business. Ryan tucks some hair behind her ear and orders a beer from the other guy working, leaning back in the stool.
“Hopefully Daisy gets good tips at least,” Ryan replies with a smile. “Might be worth all the rush and whatever.”
I adore OX’s spontaneous inconsistency, but not so much when it comes to the christmas specials. I’m really hoping this year’s update will be a continuation and not something else. we wait an entire year for these chapters — out of everything else (official illustrations, extra chapters, normal chapters, etc.), I feel like OX should consistently deliver christmas specials on principle
but I know I’ll still enjoy/support whatever ends up being posted… I’ll just inevitably be a bit saddened if it isn’t a continuation from last year, and I think that’s fair to say without sounding like a complete asshole
