Welcome to the 52drabbles prompt list for 2024 —which, amusingly, has 53 prompts! (Thank you Leap Year!)

The goal behind this year-long opt-in challenge is to post a drabble every week. To be actively writing, and actively posting, all year.

To that end we've built a list of prompts for each week in 2024 —plus a handful of alternative prompts that can be subbed in for any week (or used as prompts for bonus drabbles, because MOAR drabbles is always good!) The prompts include images, songs, random words or phrases, tropes, and in April, for poetry month - poems.

If the prompt is in double quotes, the prompt must appear in the drabble, otherwise it's meant as inspiration. During April you can choose to write a poem of the type specified as your prompt, or write *about* that type of poem. For song prompts, pick out a lyric if you like, or be inspired by the vibe of the song. Whatever works!

Also included is a list of lengths - you may choose any length from the list to pair with any of the weekly prompts.

Although the challenge is to write a drabble a week, it's a completely voluntary, opt-in sort of challenge. No hard and fast deadlines, no turning them in - just write and post. If you're posting on tumblr, please tag them with @52drabbles so we can find them for monthly roundup posts!

All versions of Bond and all ships are welcome. And if you're not in the Bond fandom? Yeah, you can play, too :)

Rules & Requirements

The main idea is simple: every 15th of a month, we will share three prompts - single words, dialogue, a setting, something along those lines - and you'll have until the 14th of the following month to write a short fic for one of the prompts! You can, of course, include all three prompts, or write a fill for each prompt, or five different fics for one of the prompts. Go Wild!

Fills have to be submitted by the 14th of the following month (so, say, the prompts go live on January 15th, your fill has to be posted by February 14th) to make it onto the Masterlist.

There are no signups required, just post your fill here or to the AO3 Collection, and tag this blog so that we can reblog it.

As a Microfic counts anything of 500 words or less.

For an additional challenge, make it a drabble (100 words exactly!).

You can write for any ship/character/gen relationship! Depending on how things go, we might start prompting ships as an additional challenge eventually, but even then it'll be optional.

You can post either to tumblr or to AO3. You don't have to use the collection, but you're welcome to! Please add the prompt you're filling to the top of your post and/or your summary on AO3, and tag the blog directly to make sure we see and can reblog it!

If AO3 says your fic is under 500 words, we'll count it. For fills posted to tumblr, we'll use wordcount.com to make sure it doesn't go over (we're not going to refuse your fic if it's 5 words over 500, but please do try to stay in the wordcount constraints, as that's kind of the point!) Drabbles have to be an exact 100 words on either AO3 or worcount.com though!

There are no content restrictions or rules on tagging beyond what AO3 requires of you. If you post to tumblr and your fill is Mature or Explicit, and/or falls under one of AO3's major warnings, please provide tagging on your post, though!

You're welcome to submit prompts! Just send us an ask "prompt submission: [word/dialogue snip/setting/etc]" If we get enough submissions, one of the monthly prompts will come from these.

Prompts can be interpreted liberally; we're not going to tell you your fic doesn't qualify, although please do make sure that it relates somewhat (aka don't just submit any drabble you write please).

Farewell to November, and congrats to the brave warriors who attempted NaNoWriMo this year! As the holidays start to appear on the horizon, so too does another monthly challenge. 

Monthly Challenge: Anon Prompt Gift Exchange 

This December we are running a gift exchange challenge. Each week we will post three of the anon prompts from our list. (First prompt post goes out today!) You then write a 500-3000 word story on any one of them to be posted at the end of the week. Then we repeat.

Prompts will be sent on Sundays and we would like responses by the following Saturday. We will post a round up post each week so we ask that you send us a link to your posted work by the end of the week.

It’s the pace of LDWS (last drabble writer standing) with the joy of people in our fandom being surprised when their prompt is filled.

Even if you have not signed up to do an exchange prompt each week, you are welcome to jump in and post if one of the weekly prompts speaks to you! Or, if none of the highlighted prompts catches your eye, the Anon Prompt Exchange is always open. 

January: Hallmark Challenge 

We don’t usually announce our monthly themes in advance, but the holidays seemed like a good time to start working on this one. Our challenge for January is to create something Bond-related that is based on popular Hallmark movie tropes. Enjoy the cliches! Embrace the cheese! And go for as many Feelings(TM) as you can! 

This challenge could be holiday related, but it could also be based around Hallmark’s other movie genres (e.g., romance, cozy mystery, found family, etc). To get an idea of what Hallmark-y stuff is like, here’s a link to a list of Top 21 Hallmark Movies, plots included! 

Write/Draw-In: December 28 

Come join us in the fandom Slack as we write, sprint, plot, brainstorm, or cheerlead each other to productivity. Whether you’re working on Bond fic or an annoying class assignment, join us for a time of trying to get stuff done. Starts as soon as people get there and begin to be productive.

WIP Wednesday: You can post an excerpt of your WIP on our post or make your own post and tag it as #MI6CafeWIPWednesday. Either way it’s a fun way to show people what you’re working on, Bond fandom or otherwise.

Wednesday chat night: Join us in Slack at 8pm eastern to generally hang out and catch up with one another.

Thursday Discord Chat: Usually on Thursdays at 9pm eastern, but Mely has also started hosting Euro-friendly chats. The Euro-chats are new and still evolving; they have previously been 7pm UK time on Thursdays, but keep an eye out for announcement posts to confirm. Come join us at either one to read fic, brainstorm fic ideas, or just hang out!
