Coming Soon... Merlin Micro Fic!

A monthly, low-key prompt challenge aimed at writers to create fics of 500 words or less!

How does this work?

We'll be sharing three prompts on the 15th of each month, and then you'll have until the 14th of the following month to write a fic of 500 words or less for it. For an additional challenge, make it a drabble (100 words exactly)!

Do I have to sign up?

Nope! Just make sure that once you post your fill, you'll tag this blog so that we can reblog it.

Anything that doesn't fly?

Nope! Any ship, any relationship (gen, poly, enemies with benefits), any character, you name it. No content restrictions or tagging requirements beyond what AO3 requires of you.

What if it ends up longer?

We have a small margin of goodwill (think 10-50 words max) but as the point is for the fics to be, well, micro, we'll cut it off at that. You're still welcome to let the fic grow into a mammoth, of course, it's just not gonna count as a fill for this particular challenge.

What if my fill's late?

A writer is never late. Nor is he early; he arrives precisely when he means to. No wait, wrong fandom. You're welcome to fill prompts after a round has finished and we'll reblog it, but you won't make it onto the Masterlist to keep things manageable on our end!

When does this start?

BBC Merlin Reverse Bang Returns!

Announcing the second round of the BBC Merlin Reverse Bang!

Sign-ups will open in about a month on Sunday, August 27!

Writers, artists, podficcers, betas, and alphas are all welcome to sign up next month! Please note that we have made some changes to the format of the fest for our second round, so definitely check out our updated carrd site!

A brief summary of changes:

we’ll have sign-ups for both betas and alphas

artist requirements have been reduced

podficcers & their writers will have a delayed posting schedule

participants will have more check-in points with the mods

and artists/podficcers will have the option to allow their concepts to be claimed by more than one writer. This means there will be 2 rounds of claiming in order to allow for more writers to participate

Just to reiterate: There are NO content bans or minimum/maximum requirements. All dynamics/ratings/whatever are welcome but your creation MUST be Elyan-centric.

You can submit more than text/audio works to the collection! Ao3 is an archive meaning it is capable of holding all types of media including art and gifs if you would still like to submit your work there.

January '24 Prompts

Hello lovely people, it's time for the first round of prompts! From today until February 14th, you have time to write for one (or several!) of the following prompts:

When posting to tumblr, please name ship/characters/gen relationship, the prompt(s) you're filling, and, if needed, rating + warnings (so, for example: "Fill for @merlinmicrofic prompt 'Masquerade', Morgana/Gwen, Explicit, MCD") at the top of your post!

Prompts can be interpreted loosely, although if you pick the dialogue prompt, the line should make an appearance!

Remember, your fic has to be 500 words or shorter! For an additional challenge, make it an exact drabble (100 words to the point!) When you post to tumblr, we'll check wordcounts with wordcount.com

Places/ways you can post: only to tumblr, to our AO3 collection, or to both. Whichever way you choose, do make sure to make a tumblr post of some kind and tag this blog directly, so that we can reblog it, and log it for the masterlist!

Guess what, Merthur fans? We’re back!

Yes, Merthur Glompfest is returning in January 2024 for another round of fabulous fanworks, just for you 😘

What is a Glompfest, you ask?

A Glompfest is a gifting fest designed as a way for fandom creators to give back to those fans who wouldn’t usually be eligible to take part in a typical exchange fest.

How does it work?

Glompees (readers, lurkers, commenters, or fandom supporters of any stripe) will be asked to provide a prompt or prompts for glomping, which will then be claimed by Glompers (fandom creators, fic writers and fanartists) and filled according to the Glompee’s request. Completed works will then be posted to our AO3 Collection and shared here on Tumblr for everyone’s enjoyment!

Sign up for our third round HERE now through June 30th! You’ll receive your card(s) via email within 48 hours.

(If you want to keep your same cards from rounds 1 or 2 and finish your fanwork for round 3, that is also allowed! No need to re-sign up!)

Check out the FAQs/Rules HERE. This round we have added the option to pull a 10-card Celtic Cross spread with your Tarot cards.

Basic Info: The Merlin Tarot Fest is a fanfic and fanart challenge using tarot and oracle cards as prompts. The fanworks do not need to focus on or even include tarot, but rather will be inspired by randomly pulled card(s). Each participant will be given their own card/card combination to inspire them! You will be able to decide if you want 1, 2, 3, 5, or 10 cards for your inspiration. You will also be able to choose your pull from a limited selection of different tarot & oracle decks.

Requirements: For fanfic, writers must write a story of at least 750 words. For fanart, artists must create at least 1 completed piece.

Posting will be open JULY 1 - SEPTEMBER 30

Posting will not be scheduled or assigned. All participants can feel free to post to the AO3 collection anytime within the allotted posting time frame. The collection is currently closed and will reopen on July 1st.

What is the After Camlann Big Bang (ACBB)?

It's a fandom fest that pairs writers with artists in order to create epic fanworks inspired by the world and characters of the BBC show, Merlin. Writers will write a minimum of 25k, and artists will create at least 1 completed piece to accompany the fic! Writers can pre-match with an artist they want to work with, or submit their anonymous summary for artists to claim!

Artist sign-ups remain open until May 18th, and claiming will take place on Saturday, June 1st.
