Localizers' Dance in Purgatory
Happy anniversary. We're doing this again.
FE15's localization has been a hot button topic on twitter for the past couple of days, which made me want to examine some more localization changes - and what better for me to use for this experiment than my other favorite scenes in the game? Having noticed that the anniversary of when I posted about that scene with Alm and Mycen was coming up, I figured the timing was just too good to pass up.
We'll be going over Alm and Berkut's encounter up until the battle officially starts, Berkut's battle dialogue, and the scene after with Rinea's spirit. So rather than having one big moment that changes the tone of the scene like last time, this one has a few of these changes along with MANY smaller expansions on dialogue that just make it too much of a pain to go through one by one. Some of these are more contentious than others!
Luckily I have a solution for this: Pour everything into a spreadsheet and throw in commentary as I see fit.
I had to write out a lot of things by hand even if I was able to copy the scripts from elsewhere so I'm so sorry for any typos 🙏 Enjoy!

say it
Byleth makes Edelgard say swear words.
(~350 words; too stupid to post on ao3)
“‘Shit.’”
“Grotesque.”
“Give it a try.”
“… Shit.”
“Very good. ‘Ass.’”
“That one is easier. I’ve said it before.”
“Then why don’t you say it now?”
“I… er…”
“If it’s so easy, then do it.”
“… Ass.”
“Excellent.”
“Don’t mock me.”
“How about this one? ‘Cunt.’”
“Wh—I actually, um, don’t know what that means.”
“You don’t know ‘cunt’?”
“I don’t know what to tell you, Byleth, it’s simply not in my lexicon.”
“It means va—”
“All right, I understand. The gesture was absolutely unnecessary. I’m astounded at how many words there seem to be for the same thing.”
“If you think that’s bad, you won’t believe how many there are for pe—”
“Well, this has been a fun exercise and hopefully a source of great amusement to you, but I think I’m finished.”
“Wait, wait.”
“No.”
“One more, one more.”
“Mm, no. I don’t think so.”
“Please?”
“… You know it’s not fair of you to give me those eyes.”
“Is that a yes?”
“All right. All right. One more.”
“Yesssss. ‘Fuck.’”
“Byleth!”
“What?! You said one more, and that’s the one to say.”
“I’m—I am not—”
“Please?”
“You can’t pull the same maneuver twice in a minute and expect to succeed. That’s poor strategy.”
“Is it working?”
“… Regrettably, it is.”
“Then it seems like a good strategy to me. Just say it. ‘Fuck.’ It’s easy.”
“It most certainly is not!”
“Try it. Say ‘fuck.’”
“… Fuck.”
“Oh, that’s rich. That’s very good.”
“Are you quite satisfied?”
“Nearly. Now use it in a sentence.”
“Byleth.”
“I’ll give you one. It’ll be easy.”
“I did not—and do not—agree to this!”
“Just repeat after me.”
“No!”
“Say, ‘Byleth, I want you to fuck me.’”
“… Oh.”
“Go on, El. You can do it.”
“… Byleth, I…”
“Keep going.”
“Byleth, I-I want you to… f-fuck me.”
“Good girl. Wasn’t so hard, was it?”
“Less than I—ah—thought it would be.”
“Mm. Well, you’ve certainly earned a reward, haven’t you?”
“Yes, my teacher. Fuck…”
“Aren’t you a fast learner? I’m impressed.”
“If you don’t shut up and kiss me right now, I’m going to start swearing in earnest.”
“Don’t threaten me with a good time, Your Majesty.”

my fesona pre and post timeskip! some info under the cut
Moss is a half nabatean who performs with a traveling circus. When Rhea sees one of their performances, she senses that there is something familiar about them. Moss takes more after their human mother than their nabatean father, so Rhea can't quite place who they remind her of. Moss is not forthcoming with any useful information on the matter, feigning complete ignorance. In order to watch them more closely, Rhea extends an invitation to the officer's academy. Moss accepts this invitation, albeit with suspicion, because it may offer better career options than the circus.
At the academy, Moss is a bit hard to pin down. They are friendly enough, generally cheerful, and happy to engage in conversation with anyone. They enjoy getting to know people, but are reluctant to reciprocate; rather, they tend to mirror others. Most people don't really notice this behavior, and those who do tend to find Moss mercurial and manipulative. Moss owns very few things, and they have very little regard for morality and attachment.
Due to the difficulties other characters may have getting to know Moss, support points are difficult to build. They get no support points from gifts, and negative support points from returning lost items. Supports can be built through battle, teatime, and sparring together(assuming that is a mechanic I also add to the game). If people try to pry too much, they lose support points unless they are at b support.
Moss can be recruited to any route, but will defect at the timeskip if they have no a supports unlocked for the house they are in. If they have an a support unlocked in a different house, they join that army after the timeskip. If they have no a supports unlocked, they never return to fodlan when they leave during the timeskip. Moss's heritage is only revealed in the silver snow and verdant wind routes.

It’s extremely funny to me how much three houses makes you listen to people whining about how crests badly impact on their lives, and then the gameplay of three houses constantly shows that as a whole, crest bearing units are indeed better than most units without.

it's odd to say but i think of dimitri -- especially post-canon -- as a type of hedonist?
not so much on his own behalf, where he remains lost in the self-punishing asceticism sauce, but when it comes to the people he cares about, there's this blank-faced autistic approach of ... if it's not hurting anyone, why shouldn't you? why shouldn't you seek out pleasure? why deny yourself, when there's no harm in it? shouldn't people be free to do the things that make them happy?
(of course dimitri isn't people -- dimitri's a monster and a blight upon this earth and only in suffering can he atone for the crime of his existence -- but real people should be happy)

does anyone have a good full-body reference of the form units take when they engage with alear in fe engage
(this is the type of outfit what im referring to btw, idk if i worded that eloquently )
like, the artbook that was scanned and uploaded online has full-body refs of all the other engage forms in the base games but not alear for some damn reason 😭 is it because of spoilers???? there's a lot of other spoilery stuff in this book though...
doesnt have to be art (i kind of doubt it exists if it's not in the artbook), could be a good 360 view of the outfit in game (for both guys and girls). though not just the waist up preview of the character when you're selecting them in game. someone on tumblr has collected everyone's engage forms using that method but it's way too cropped for my liking. i'm looking for a full body view of the whole fit.
(absolutely no hate to this user, they clearly put a lot of work into gathering all these images, but i wanted to get that out there before someone sends me to their profile that i've already seen)
(i guess i'd also like references for the bracelet forms as well. i don't own the dlc because it's expensive tbh so i have even less access to these outfits myself. but i'd like to have the alear fit as well)
