Haven’t had time to write the post about Baby Poldine’s first hike to the torrent yet, but here are some photos! <3 She was nervous and therefore very clingy / cuddly, it was so sweet. And I’m glad all three cats followed us because she loves them and they reassure her a lot.

Iris fulva, copper iris, dripping with dew this morning at the lake. I didn't notice the dragonfly shadow on the leaf until I got home and downloaded the pictures.

Barney, early August 2008. He'd been in the family about 5-6 months at this point & would've been about 21 months old. At this point, he was still very reactive around strangers, some dogs, new objects/situations etc but we were beginning the slow process of teaching him the world wasn't actually all that scary!
My dad's wife at the time (they've since divorced) kept ponies. She & I used to bring Barney to the livery yard with us, which he really enjoyed... He loved just following me about everywhere, exploring the barns & fields & occasionally coming out on hacks.
Despite being a generally anxious chappie, Barney never showed any fear of the horses at all... actually he initially wanted to herd them. Luckily, he only needed telling about twice it wasn't allowed & after that, Barney was polite & gentle with all ponies (& indeed also with donkeys & cattle... sheep were another story!). The other lesson he needed teaching also was that if I shut him in an empty stable for a minute, he was supposed to *stay inside*... because, as I discovered the day I took these photos, he was fully capable of making an inelegant but extremely fast escape, if he wanted to!
I've cropped the last pic, in case dad's ex doesn't want her photo on tumblr but here's Barney out with her beautiful pony, Saxon - taken same day I as the other pics.
