The Two Most Iconic Wheel Standers of All Time.
Hurst Hemi Under Glass
Hurst Hemi Under Glass is the name given to a series of exhibition drag racing cars campaigned by Hurst Performance between 1965 and 1970 across North America and ended with the '68 model year.
Each wheelstander was based on the current Plymouth Barracuda for the corresponding model year. The car was so named because the fuel injected Chrysler Hemi engine was placed under the Barracuda's exceptionally large rear window. The result of the rearward weight transfer was a "wheelie" down the length of the drag strip.
The Hemi Under Glass was developed by Hurst Corporation to showcase their products in the A/FX class - precursor to funny cars. In 1965, George Hurst hired Wild Bill Shrewsberry of Mansfield, OH, an accomplished drag racer who had raced for both Mickey Thompson and Jack Chrisman. After helping to pioneer it into the first wheelstanding exhibition car, Shrewsberry left at the end of the season to pursue his own project.
For the 1966 season, Bob Riggle, who was also from Mansfield, OH and was involved with Hurst as a mechanic and fabricator became the second driver of the Hurst Hemi Under Glass car and campaigned the cars with Hurst as the sponsor until later years when the Hurst Company was sold to Sunbeam. At that point, the car ran without the Hurst logo and was simply known as the "Hemi Under Glass." Riggle's career ended in 1975 with a devastating accident at US 30 Dragway in Gary, Indiana.
Popular model kits of the car were produced in 1/32 scale by Aurora Plastics Corporation and in 1/25 scale by Model Products Corporation. A limited edition 1/18 scale diecast model of the 1966 car is currently available from Highway 61.[1]
Riggle returned to exhibition racing in 1992 with a 1966 injected version of the car and a 1968 supercharged version of the car.[2] The original 1965 car was stripped for its power train and parts in 1967 for the new Barracuda chassis/body style and no longer exists.[3][4]
While taping the June 26, 2016 episode of Jay Leno's Garage, Riggle, with Leno riding in the passenger seat, rolled a newly constructed '69 version of the Hemi Under Glass after turning sharply at the end of a wheelie run. Neither of the men were hurt, but the car sustained significant damage.[5] Leno was riding along to fulfill another item on his 'Bucket List.'
July, 2016, Mike Mantel of New Braunfels, TX was named as the new driver of the Hemi Under Glass. Mantel took over the '68 car which has the longest performing history of any Hemi Under Glass ever constructed and becomes the third official driver in the brand's 50+ year history.[6] Mantel was only 6 years old when the Hemi Under Glass first took to the track. He has a wide range of driving experience from drag cars, road race, and movie cars. Mantel's original hometown is the city of Hawthorne, CA.
Billy Lawrence Golden (December 31, 1933 – September 14, 2015),[1] nicknamed "Maverick", was an American drag racer. He is probably best known for driving the Little Red Wagon A/FX wheelstander pickup exhibition racer.
Little Red Wagon
Born in Shawnee Township, Illinois, Golden joined the US Marines and first became interested in drag racing while at Camp Pendleton.
Golden was given his "Maverick" nickname in the late 1950s by an announcer at a Southern California dragstrip, because he chose to drive an unconventional 361 cu in (5,920 cc)-powered Dodge Custom Royal. He started racing in AHRA Super Stock, driving Dodges for several years. He was one of the first drivers in AHRA S/S to successfully run an automatic transmission. In 1960, Chrysler offered to provide him parts, when he was driving a Dodge Phoenix, powered by a 330 hp (250 kW) 330 cu in (5.4 L) with twin Carter carburetors and cross-ram intake manifold; the car was capable of quarter-mile times of 13.7 seconds.
By 1962, he was a factory driver, driving an S/SA Dodge. At the 1962 AHRA Winternationals, driving his bright yellow hemi "Taxi Cab" Dodge 330, he scored a "stunning" victory over "Dyno Don" Nicholson's 409 cu in (6,700 cc) factory Chevrolet at Fontana Drag City, to take the Stock Eliminator title, Chrysler's only Nationals win for 1962.
In 1963, Golden worked with Jim Nelson of Dragmasters to improve the car, and won seven Super Stock races out of eight events, taking the Midwest Championship.
At the end of the 1964 season, Chrysler proposed Golden drive the Little Red Wagon A/FX pickup. which became drag racing's first wheelstanding truck.
Little Red Wagon's first outing, at the AHRA Grand American event at Lions Drag Strip, was an 11 second pass at 120 mph (190 km/h). The crowd's very enthusiastic reaction prompted Golden to turn the A/FX truck into a wheelstanding exhibition racer, which he developed a steering mechanism for himself, relying on experience from his day job at Douglas Aircraft Corporation. The wheelstander was wrecked in 1969, 1971, and 1975; the third crash was nearly fatal to Golden.
Golden retired in 2003. He died on September 14, 2015.[3]

Joker 2 will (probably) also be bad
I've gone on record saying Joker (2019) was a badly-conceived film, with ideas that are, at best, inconsistent and muddled.
And now they're making another one. With Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. Maybe it will be better this time?
...no, probably not. Let me break it down.
So, the entire design philosophy of Joker (2019) from writer/director Todd Phillips was, quote, "we're gonna sneak in a real movie in the guise of a comic book movie". That is, Phillips wanted to make Taxi Driver...but he's only a talented enough filmmaker to make The Hangover at best, and The Hangover Part III at worst, and so Warner Bros only trusted him with an IP that was guaranteed to succeed regardless of quality.
This sucks on two levels. If we judge Joker as a "real film"...it fails utterly, because it's using the visual language of the 1970s to whine about 21st century woes, and even then doesn't have anything to say. The "failed standup act goes viral" plot beat doesn't fit with the media landscape of the 1970s, while the clown rioters echo the "eat the rich, defund the police" sentiment that was brewing in 2019 and would explode with George Floyd's murder in 2020. These things are included because Phillips is the kind of jerk who complains about "woke culture" on Twitter. The only reason Phillips sets the film in the 1970s...is because he's cheating off Scorsese's homework.
But if we judge Joker as a comic book movie, it also sucks, because it completely fails to live up to what makes The Joker so fascinating. See, The Joker is a Batman villain; a standout antagonist against the rogues gallery. You cannot understand The Joker except as a literary foil, as a dark reflection of the Dark Knight. Batman is a solemn, incorruptible force for justice. The Joker is a manic, incorruptible force of destruction. While many of Batman's villains are sympathetic (e.g. Mr Freeze), and others are garden-variety thugs with powers (e.g. Clayface), The Joker is pure. He cannot be reasoned with or negotiated with, he has no agenda beyond causing mayhem, and he has no better nature to appeal to. That charisma, that certainty of purpose, is what makes the Joker such a fun villain. Phillips throws all of that in the garbage--Arthur Fleck is weak-willed, cowardly, and just needs a friend.
And now, in Folie a deux...he's getting one, in the form of Gaga's Harley Quinn.
Now, Harley Quinn is different from the Joker. Harley was introduced in Batman: the Animated Series, voiced by Arleen Sorkin, as a counterpart to Mark Hamill's Joker. Her origin story is that she was Dr. Harlene Quinzel, a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum, who tried to fix The Joker...only to be pulled in by his madness, taking a new name, costume, and falling head-over-heels for "Mista J", her "puddin'".
This is interesting because while The Joker only really makes sense as a Batman antagonist, Harley only really makes sense in the context of the Joker. Harley's story is one of domestic abuse; she is The Joker's greatest victim, and yet his staunchest ally. She sometimes realizes this and tries to get away, but can't escape his manipulative gravity. This obsessive love, however, is not returned; The Joker's soulmate is Batman, the yin to his yang, his equal and opposite. Nowhere is this more clear than in the iconic Mad Love, where Harley almost kills Batman as a gift to her puddin', only for The Joker to furiously lash out in a "no one kills Batman but me" kind of way.
So while the Joker is fun because he's so unsympathetic, Harley is fun because she is sympathetic. The Joker is fully evil, but Harley is only evil because of her exposure to The Joker; without him in the picture, she's just a manic antihero.
And that's exactly what's happened to her character over time; fan and authorial desire to see Harley achieve independence and escape the cycle of abuse led directly to her more modern portrayals, such as Margot Robbie in Suicide Squad (2016), Birds of Prey, and The Suicide Squad (2021). But even then, she was introduced in Suicide Squad against Jared Leto's Joker, and the start of Birds of Prey is her mourning her breakup with him. Her animated series starts the same way, seeking autonomy and an independent self-identity.
Folie a deux...isn't going to be doing that. It can't. It doesn't work with Arthur Fleck. The whole point of Joker (2019) is that Arthur Fleck is a loser, he's a failed nobody, he is the dregs of society that everyone ignores. His sexual frustration and loneliness form the basis of a major (and idiotic) plot beat with Zazie Beetz. He is a million miles from the "charismaniac" of Hamill or Ledger--there is zero possibility that he could "infect" a brilliant psychiatrist.
To his credit, Phillips realizes this, and is taking a different angle. From the trailer, it looks like Gaga's Harley is going to be a fellow Arkham resident, and she's going to be the one who initiates flirtation with Arthur, in a sort of "love letter to a serial killer" kind of admiration. The trailer leans heavily on the refrain of "what the world needs now is love, sweet love", and overall seems to be framing itself as an honest-to-god romance. Instead of the Joker/Harley relationship being abuser/victim, it looks instead to be toxic enabling, where Harley encourages Arthur to embrace his worst, most destructive instincts.
And...that's probably going to be framed as a good thing. See, if Folie a deux is going to be a romance, then plot constraints demand that there needs to be an obstacle dividing the lovers and preventing their happy union. What obstacle could exist between Arthur and Harley? Why, the entire legal system, of course--we see in the teaser multiple shots of them going up courthouse steps. It's likely that the pair fall in love in Arkham, escape ("let's get out of here", Harley says), are recaptured, and then have to defend themselves in court. This might have a "happy ending" where they win and leave together, affirming that enabling a violent criminal is a good thing. Or it might have a "sad ending" where the court outcome separates them, affirming Arthur's nihilism and anger at a system he perceives as unjust only when it inconveniences him. Either way, Harley is going to be framed as good for Arthur, making him better while making him worse.
Could this be done well? Maybe. It's certainly possible. Canon is already so broken that it's no longer a limitation. A talented director might realize the moral complexity in the relationship between two violent, mentally unstable murderers. One could frame the entire thing as a tragedy, where "boy gets girl back again" is shown to be disastrous (as in The Graduate). Or, it could even be something of an inversion of the more canonical Joker/Harley romance; instead of Harley realizing that she's better off without Mista J, it might be Arthur realizing he is better off without Harley.
But it almost certainly won't be any of that. Because Phillips thinks that Arthur Fleck is relatable. He thinks he's a martyr, a victim of targeted injustice, a doomed hero refusing to bow to societal norms. But he isn't. Arthur Fleck is an entitled white boy who simultaneously sees his suffering as a systemic failing, while also refusing to see how the system harms others, and refusing to see how his own choices make things worse for everyone. Arthur Fleck is an embodiment of denied privilege, where cishet white men expect to be lavished with unearned success, and are butthurt when they don't get it.
And above all, the thing that media has always told men is that a manic pixie dream girl is going to find you and fall madly in love with you despite your obvious failings. That is the heterosexual male romantic fantasy; love without effort, acceptance without labor, companionship without obligation. Todd Phillips might play this straight. Or he might set this up for Arthur, only to deny it as an act of authorial cruelty. But the first film demonstrates that he lacks the self-awareness necessary to actually deconstruct it, to criticize the expectation itself.
So no. I don't think Folie a deux will be better than its prequel. Because for Todd Phillips to make a better movie, he'd have to be a better person. And he's not.

Week 2: Living it up in Amsterdam!
Time feels like it’s going by so quickly, as it’s already the end of the second week in Berlin. This week introduced the technical lab course, which for me is my robotic programming lab course. I haven’t had a great deal of robotic programming, and as everyone was introducing themselves during the first class, it seemed that the consensus was that a lot of people were pretty new. So it could be said that I was more than a little shocked to be doing partial derivatives and working with differential equations on the first day. Anyways, it actually wasn’t too bad as it made everyone work collectively and made time go by much faster as we were so laser-focused on finishing our tasks.
Tumblr media
On Tuesday, we went on a fun brewery tour of the brewery on the VLB campus. You see, all the beer that was being produced was for research and scientific purposes. The brewery was experimenting with different techniques and recipes for different kinds of beer. We got to see the station where the barley is first broken down into malt, then where the yeast is added, and finally where the beer is dispensed. As an added bonus, we even got to try some!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Prior to the weekend, around Monday or so, 7 of my friends and I planned a weekend trip over to Amsterdam. We were to leave right after class on Friday and get there at around 1:00 am on Saturday and return back to Berlin at around 8:30 on Sunday night. I packed my stuff at around 5:45 am Friday morning because I’m just an all-round excellent procrastinator.
The entire Amsterdam journey was an absolutely crazy one, but quite a memorable one. For starters, we missed one of our trains and had to race the train via taxi. One of our trains was heavily delayed, which caused us to miss our ensuing transfer train. As I was the only person who somewhat knew how to speak German, I was forced to put my minuscule vocabulary to use when I had to communicate to the information help desk and taxi driver that our train had been delayed and now needed a taxi service. We eventually were able to get a taxi service to the next stop, and thanks to the driver, just barely made it before the train, and the trip continued to proceed as normal. I thought that it was crazy that we had just happened to have one German speaker with us on this trip and for it to be actually a pivotal moment in the trip.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As soon as we arrived, we headed to the Airbnb and just chilled out until everyone went to bed. The following morning we decided to go sightseeing and check out any potential museums or other tourist attractions that we wanted to hit up. We eventually settled on splitting up between sightseeing and visiting an electronic music museum.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I went with the group to the museum and as we were walking there, we were met with absolute torrential downpour. Since we had to make our time slot, we trudged through the rain to the museum, arriving on-time looking like we had swam through the waterways to get there. In the electronic music museum, we got to learn about the history of House music and see priceless artifacts like Marshmello’s helmet and Avicii’s keyboard. To top it all off, we even got to experience their own little DJ-mashup of some of the most iconic songs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That night, we met up with some other University of Michigan students who were traveling through Europe, and we decided that since it was one of their birthdays, to go out that night in celebration, seeing as he was turning 21. We walked around Amsterdam at night, appreciating the beautiful views of the city at night and basking in the nighttime culture of the city. Even though it was late at night, there were still streets packed with people having a good night out in pubs and bars. We walked around for about an hour, then attended a music festival. Now, this is where the night really starts to get interesting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When we arrived, we were really excited and were in high spirits. Then someone from our group got kicked out. We didn’t really know why and after clearing up the confusion, they were let back in. We then spent the next couple hours dancing and chilling around, eventually leaving at around 3:00 am. As we were all pretty hungry at the time, we decided to hit up this one street full of fast food shops until around 4:00 am. However, as we were walking there, another person lost their wallet. We spent about 30-45 minutes looking for that wallet until somehow, by the grace of God, we found it next to a curb untouched. It was a pure stroke of luck that we had found it and even more lucky that it was left untouched. Seeing as how the universe was so unfairly lucky to us, it decided that it was time to reverse the tables. As we were walking to get food, I saw that we were running behind and needed to get moving if we were to get there before everything closed. I started sprinting and turned around to tell my friends behind me that we need to get going. As I turn back around however, I see a bike coming straight for me and BAM, it slams right into me. Luckily, no one was seriously hurt and I was able to walk away from it with minor bruises and swelling. However, this experience was extremely scary and I am extremely grateful that things did not end differently. At last, we were able to get food right around 4:00 am and eventually headed back and called it a night.
Sunday was our final day in Amsterdam and seeing as how our train back to Berlin left at 2:15, we could only do some light shopping in some of the shopping streets before we ended up heading over to the train station and heading back to Berlin. Overall, it was an extremely fun trip and well worth it. Even though we had some scary moments, we cherished the short time that we spent and left extremely satisfied with the experience.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This will no doubt go down as one of the most fun trips that I’ve had in recent years and definitely the most crazy and unpredictable trip ever.
Tumblr media
That’s all for this week, see you guys next week!

Uncover Hollywood’s Secrets: Top 10 Iconic Movie Scenes Using ADR
Have you ever watched a movie and been completely captivated by the perfect delivery of a line? It might surprise you to learn that many famous movie moments were actually recorded later in a studio using a process called ADR, or Automated Dialogue Replacement. This technique helps fix audio issues and improve dialogue clarity.
Here are top ten iconic movie scenes where ADR played a crucial role.
Tumblr media
1. “You’re gonna need a bigger boat” from Jaws
This famous line, said by the character Quint after seeing the shark, was originally hard to understand when filmed. Actor Robert Shaw re-recorded it in a studio, giving us the clear and memorable line we all know today.
2. “I’m walking here!” from Midnight Cowboy
Dustin Hoffman’s improvised line became legendary, but the street noise made it hard to hear during filming. Hoffman re-recorded it in a studio to make sure his iconic shout was crystal clear.
3. “You had me at ‘hello'” from Jerry Maguire
Renee Zellweger’s heartfelt line was re-recorded in a studio to perfect its emotional impact, making it one of the most romantic moments in film history.
4. The Lobby Shootout in The Matrix
During this intense action scene, Keanu Reeves’ dialogue was mostly re-recorded in a studio. The noise from special effects and stunts made on-set audio unusable, so ADR ensured every line was perfectly clear.
5. “They’re he-ere…” from Poltergeist
Heather O’Rourke’s spooky line was enhanced in post-production with ADR and sound effects, making it even more chilling.
6. “Show me the money!” from Jerry Maguire
Cuba Gooding Jr.’s famous line was re-recorded to capture his energetic delivery more clearly, ensuring it became a pop culture phenomenon.
7. “Keep the change” from Taxi Driver
Robert De Niro’s line in the diner scene was re-recorded to add extra menace and clarity, enhancing the film’s tense atmosphere.
8. “That’ll do, pig” from Babe
James Cromwell’s gentle line to Babe was re-recorded to capture the warmth and sincerity needed for this touching moment.
9. “You’re killing me, Smalls!” from The Sandlot
This funny line was re-recorded by the young actors to ensure it was clearly heard over the noise of their game, making it one of the film’s most memorable quotes.
10. “Here’s looking at you, kid” from Casablanca
Humphrey Bogart’s famous farewell line was enhanced using ADR, making it richer and more impactful than the original on-set recording.
Conclusion
ADR is a hidden gem in filmmaking, allowing directors to fix audio issues and perfect performances. Next time you watch a movie and hear a perfectly delivered line, remember it might have been thanks to the magic of ADR. This technique ensures the dialogue we love is as clear and impactful as possible, making good movies great and unforgettable moments truly iconic. At Aimers Production, we understand the importance of flawless audio and are dedicated to bringing the magic of ADR to every project.

My top 10 fav films, got tagged by @themousefromfantasyland long time ago, but I am doing this only now. Sorry pal.
1)Life of pi
Tumblr media
Me and my mom always keep rewatching it whenever we see it on tv. And how could we not rewatch it for millionth time when we have duo of Pi and Richard Parker that try to survive (Mostly Pi tries not to get eaten by Richard). It doesn't matter if you take this story literally or see it as a bunch of collection of symbolisms, it's still an interesting movie to watch.
2)Roots
Tumblr media
You see, this film has a lot of moments that make me cry like a bitch, a young man named Giorgi went to France to earn some money? Now he can't go back home because surprise-surprise, ww1 has started and all borders are locked. That's alright, he doesn't lose hope, he marries French woman and lives his life as taxi driver, he realizes that none of his sons know their heritage (culture, language and etc.) so he decides to teach everything to his grandson, I am not going to retell the whole story. Giorgi tells his grandson, Georges, that he must take his ashes back to his home village. After his grandpa died Georges does as he was told and travels to his granddad's home village, he thinks that nobody remembers Giorgi because of how much time has passed but when he comes down from the train he sees people in black waiting for him. And no I am not tearing up.
3)Kukaracha
Tumblr media
I saw Kukaracha for the first time in theater, but when I saw the movie adaptation I loved it more, Nodar Dumbadze (No, I haven't read Kukaracha) I is one of my favourite writers. Kukaracha is adorable and his relationship with Inga was cute af. Also this movie has one of my favourite if not the most favourite quotes of all time.
4)Mimino
Tumblr media
How can I not love this comedy? Kikabidze's and Mkrtchyan's duo is iconic for me. This movie makes me laugh (and cry a little).
5)The eccentrics
Tumblr media
Every soviet comedy must have at least one gut wrenching moment that will make you tear up or cry? I guess yes, because every soviet comedy I have watched has such moments. The film is about a young boy that falls in love with woman, to save her he goes to prison, where he meets man who dreams about making a flying machine, together they manage to do it.
6)Ace of aces
Tumblr media
This movie has everything I like 1)It's set in 20th century 2)Enemies to friends trope 3)Adorable baby bear 4)Adorable baby boy 5)And this film makes fun of Hitler.
7)Lion
Tumblr media
Another sad story with happy ending.
8)Spirited away
Tumblr media
It never was stated that I can't put animated films on the list!
9)Ratatouille
Tumblr media
Ratatouille was one of my favourite movies as a kid, I've watched it more than just multiple times, it gives me serious nostalgia.
10)Up
Tumblr media
I have watched this when I was kid once but after many years, not so very long ago I have watched it again with my mom. Yes we cried, we laughed and we basically loved it.

Roma Amor
I know this makes no sense in English but if you read Roma backwards, in Spanish it reads Amor. And this is exactly what the eternal city is.
Tumblr media
I went there this year, almost by mistake. I needed to renew my visa and even though all my plans were to nail this paperwork back home, it ended up happening back in the old continent. It was definitely a surprise and something that without me knowing it, was exactly what I needed. First, a pit stop in Madrid, to have coffee, vermouth and tapas with my dearest friend Anita. 24 hours later, l ended up living on this beautiful airbnb 3 blocks away from the Coliseum -holly shit that was unexpected! And then, when coming back home, a 15-hours-lay-over in Iceland became a short yet sweet roadtrip underneath the midnight sun and surrounded by Icelandic mountains and hot springs. Yes, all that in 2 weeks... cray cray, I know.. But, let’s go back to Rome.
Tumblr media
Roma. I arrived and the taxi driver was cursing and complaining about the traffic. Oh what a beauty, just like home! Italia looks so much like Argentina that is terrifying. I love it.
Walking around Monti, I discovered the neighborhood I wanted to live in. Someday, I'll move back to Europe, and If I end up living in Rome, I will live in Monti. Yes, it will packed with tourists, but what a beauty. Those old houses, I want to fix them and get that empire feeling in my own home. Mine was charming and nooked inside this beautiful old building with a heritage vibe. I was in love. Imagine my future apartment, while I cook and christen those corners with home-made food scents, oven warmth and citric freshness. And of course, some Italian love, wine-not? One day...
Tumblr media
Today, I'm surrounded with vespas, big-ass cars for these tiny and narrow streets, yelling locals, mesmerized tourists and a painfully hot summer heat wave (37 degrees, wtf Europe, have mercy!). Even though Im complaining, this was perfect after a humid and grey Montevideo winter, so shut me up.
I checked out Monti, discovered this little restaurant and had what I was craving since last time I was in Torino with my friend Mau: Pasta alla Vongole. It is nothing extraordinary, really, but done in Italy it has a different taste that makes it yummy: mussels, wine, olive oil, garlic and green onions. Delicious freshness in a dish.
I started walking and rediscovered this city for the third time. I first went in 2000 with my folks, it was intense, it was wonderful. It was my first time in Europe and I remember, even with my young 11 years old, to be hooked, mesmerized and overwhelmed. A couple of years later, in 2006, I went back with my boyfriend at a time, Federico. We were both young and completely clueless, yet we had a wonderful time. I was 17 and he was 19. Thanks Mom and Dad for allowing me to do this crazy ass shit of discovering the world on my own and with a GUY at such young age. So, 16 years later, I return to this city, that stays the same for centuries although I was a complete different person. Yet, each time I turned a corner, I recognized it very randomly and very surprisingly, like if my body had this internal GPS, physical memory and beautiful reminder of already have walked those cobblestones before. No kidding, after 2 days, as usual, I already was going everywhere without any sort of map. And of course, my Italian was mega oiled and super on point. Or at least that was what I thought!
Tumblr media
I made my way to the Coliseum, walked down via Cavour and Via Garibaldi, some of the most iconic streets I remember walking down with my parents almost 20 years ago. I headed up to La Fontana di Trevi, one of my favorite spots in the city. It was packed with people, as usual. Yet I made my way to sit around it and enjoy one of the many gelatos I had in town.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If the city is pretty during daytime, inviting you freshly squeeze arancia juices or espressos, at night time it shines even brighter. The buildings low dimmed lights, the ruins and the avenues just make you stay awake as much as possible so, regardless of how tired you may be already, you keep walking listening to all the secrets these places have to whisper you. I once ended up at the one of the Foros watching a 45 mins amazing mapping projection on the ruins itself while learning the story behind the Augustus Forum. What a treat!
Tumblr media
Street musicians, happy tourists and packed restaurants complete the scenery, inviting you to enjoy the dolce far niente.
In a nut shell, here's my Roma pocket guide:
Monti is located in the charming and center part of Municipio 1, where you can find most of the touristic attractions: Via dei Fori Imperiale, Fontana di Trevi, Coliseum, Basilica Santa Maria Maggiori and Altare della Patria with the Imperial Museums and the iconic Luppa.
Trastevere is the Brooklyn of Rome. Restaurants, old bookstores, Cinema Isole and a bunch of venues and bars by the river. On your way there make sure to explore Piazza Navona, Pantheon, and Ponte Sisto.
Further away, but on the other side of the Tiber River, you will find the Vatican City and the Vatican Museums with the Sixtine Chapel, Castello Saint Angelo and Belvedere del Gianicolo. Check it out during sunset, you are up for a treat.
Termini. If all the roads lead to Rome, in Rome, all the roads lead to Termini. Although not very pretty, it is where the Central Market and the train station Roma Termini is located where you can commute to all the rest of Italy. You will definitely find yourself there once or twice during your stayed.
Pignetto is a bit far from the touristic circuit, and in order to reach there you will experience some hidden wonders too, like where you the Florist Piazza, the Scala Santa and with a little bit of a detour, the terme. This is the new gentrified, less touristy version of Monti, with a iconic pedestrian street packed with restaurants, bars and aperitivo places.

Self-Drive Cars in Trivandrum: Revolutionizing Urban Mobility
The picturesque city of Trivandrum, known for its rich cultural heritage and lush landscapes, is gradually embracing a modern revolution in urban mobility: self-drive cars. As technology continues to reshape our lives, the emergence of self-drive vehicles is set to transform how residents and tourists navigate this vibrant capital city of Kerala.
Understanding Self-Drive Cars
Self-drive cars, also known as rental or hire cars that can be operated by individuals without a chauffeur, offer a level of convenience and flexibility that traditional taxi services simply cannot match. With these vehicles, users can book a car through a smartphone app, pick it up at a designated location, and hit the road—all without the need to rely on public transportation schedules or driver availability.
Why Choose Self Drive Cars in Trivandrum ?
1. **Freedom and Flexibility**: Self-drive rentals allow users the freedom to explore Trivandrum at their own pace. Whether it’s a weekend getaway to Vellayani Lake or a trip to the iconic Padmanabhaswamy Temple, travelers can enjoy an itinerary without the constraints of fixed schedules.
2. **Cost-Effective**: For both residents and visitors, opting for a self-drive car can often be more economical than using taxis or ride-hailing services, especially for longer trips or family outings. Furthermore, many self-drive companies offer transparent pricing with no hidden fees.
3. **Comfort and Privacy**: With a self-drive car, individuals can travel in comfort, whether they prefer to blast their favorite music or enjoy a peaceful ride through the city’s scenic landscapes. Privacy is another significant benefit, allowing for personal conversations or solitary reflection.
4. **Diverse Fleet Options**: Service providers in Trivandrum typically offer a wide range of vehicles, from compact cars suitable for solo travelers to spacious SUVs perfect for families or groups. This extensive selection ensures that all travel needs are catered to.
5. **Local Exploration**: Trivandrum is a city rich in attractions. With self-drive options, visitors can discover hidden gems, explore off-the-beaten-path destinations, and immerse themselves in the local culture without being tied to tourist itineraries.
The Impact of Self-Drive Cars on Trivandrum
Environmental Considerations
As self-drive cars become increasingly popular, there is also a significant push towards sustainability. Many rental companies in Trivandrum are exploring eco-friendly vehicle options, such as electric and hybrid cars. This transition not only reduces the carbon footprint but also promotes a greener, cleaner city.
Traffic Management and Urban Planning
The growth of self-drive services presents both challenges and opportunities for urban planners. While the number of vehicles on the road may increase, proper management and the implementation of technology such as smart parking systems can help mitigate traffic congestion. Innovations like car-sharing programs can further optimize vehicle usage and reduce the necessity for personal vehicle ownership.
Technological Integration
The integration of technology in the car rental system enhances the user experience. Mobile applications enable easy bookings, real-time vehicle tracking, and seamless payment methods. Additionally, features like GPS navigation ensure that travelers can navigate Trivandrum with ease, avoiding traffic hotspots and discovering the best routes.
Challenges Ahead
Despite the numerous advantages, the self-drive car boom does face challenges. Road safety remains a paramount concern, necessitating strict regulations and user education. Furthermore, a robust infrastructure for electric vehicles and recharging stations is essential for the sustainable growth of this sector.
Self-drive cars are more than just a transportation solution; they signify a changing landscape in how we approach urban mobility in Trivandrum. With their convenience, cost-effectiveness, and flexibility, self-drive rentals are set to become an integral part of the travel experience in this enchanting city.
As Trivandrum continues to evolve, embracing modern trends while preserving its cultural essence, self-drive cars will play a vital role in connecting people with the city’s rich heritage, vibrant life, and stunning landscapes. Whether you're a local or a traveler, the allure of the open road awaits—where will you go next?

In this blog, we will explore the benefits of renting a self-drive car in Trivandrum, popular rental options, tips for choosing the right service, and how to make the most of your self-driven journey in this vibrant city.
1. Why Choose a Self-Drive Car Rental in Trivandrum?

Complete Freedom: With a self-drive rental, you are in control of your journey. You can explore off-the-beaten-path destinations, take detours, or stop for impromptu sightseeing, all without worrying about a driver’s schedule.
Privacy and Comfort: Renting a car for yourself allows you to enjoy your trip with full privacy, whether you're traveling solo, with family, or friends. You can relax and travel comfortably without any interruptions.
Cost-Effective: Self-drive car rentals are often more affordable than hiring a taxi for long distances or multiple days. You pay only for the car and fuel, and you can choose a vehicle that fits your budget.
Local Exploration at Your Own Pace: Trivandrum has a rich blend of attractions, from the iconic Padmanabhaswamy Temple to the serene Kovalam Beach. A self-drive car lets you explore these landmarks and discover hidden gems without being rushed.
2. Top Self-Drive Car Rental Options in Trivandrum

Here are some popular self-drive car rental options in the city:
Economy Cars: Perfect for solo travelers or small groups, economy cars like hatchbacks are fuel-efficient and easy to navigate through Trivandrum’s traffic.
SUVs and MUVs: If you’re planning a road trip to nearby hill stations or backwaters, renting an SUV or MUV offers more space, power, and comfort for a smooth ride.
Luxury Cars: For those who prefer a premium experience, luxury self-drive cars like sedans and premium SUVs provide both style and comfort. Ideal for special events or business trips.

Most rental services in Trivandrum offer a range of vehicles that can be booked online or through mobile apps, making the process quick and convenient.
3. What to Consider When Renting a Self-Drive Car in Trivandrum
Choosing the right self-drive car rental service is essential to ensure a hassle-free experience. Here are a few things to keep in mind when renting a car in Trivandrum:
Reputation and Reviews: Look for rental companies with positive reviews and a strong reputation for providing reliable vehicles and good customer service. Checking customer feedback online can help you make an informed decision.
Fleet Variety and Availability: Ensure the rental service offers a wide variety of cars so you can choose a vehicle that suits your travel needs and budget. Whether you're looking for a compact car, a sedan, or an SUV, having multiple options is essential.
Rental Terms and Conditions: Be sure to read the terms and conditions carefully before booking. This includes the fuel policy, mileage limits, security deposits, and insurance coverage. Make sure you’re aware of any hidden charges or fees that may apply.
Pricing: Compare prices from different rental providers to ensure you're getting the best deal. Some companies may offer discounts or special rates for longer rental periods.
Additional Features: If you need extras like GPS, child seats, or roof racks, check if the rental company provides these features and at what cost.
4. Tips for a Smooth Self-Drive Experience in Trivandrum
To make the most of your self-drive rental experience, follow these tips:
Book in Advance: During peak travel seasons, self-drive cars can be in high demand. Booking your car in advance ensures you get your preferred vehicle at the best rate.
Carry Essential Documents: Always carry your valid driver’s license, a copy of the rental agreement, and identification proof. If you're a foreign traveler, you may also need an International Driving Permit (IDP).
Inspect the Car Before Driving: Before taking the car, inspect it for any existing damage and report it to the rental company. This prevents any disputes when returning the vehicle.
Plan Your Route: Trivandrum has a mix of city roads, coastal routes, and hilly terrains. Plan your route ahead of time using a GPS or map to avoid traffic and explore the best attractions efficiently.
Obey Traffic Rules: Follow local traffic laws, and be cautious while driving, especially in busy areas. Trivandrum’s traffic can get congested, so drive carefully and defensively.
Fill Up on Fuel: Ensure you know the fuel policy of your rental company, whether it's a full-to-full or full-to-empty policy. Plan your fuel stops accordingly, especially if you're driving to remote areas.
5. Top Destinations to Explore in Trivandrum with a Self-Drive Car
Having your own vehicle allows you to explore Trivandrum and nearby destinations at your leisure. Here are some must-visit places you can easily explore with a self-drive car:
