Ok I’ll bite, I’m curious:

Mephisto/Amaimon - why ship it? (All 3 q’s)

Rin/Shiemi — why don’t you ship it? (I hope I’m asking this right)

I think we will probably have similar reasons but it never hurts to ask!

Mefiama, why ship it:

1. Ok! So for the first, really my og aoex ship was amairin bc I'm a battle couple shipper first and foremost but mefiama was a close second and it's bc I'm a demon lover after everything lololol

Specifically, I've loved characters like mephisto and amaimon as long as I can remember, starting from my og fav yyh Yoko Kurama and Hiei (which in my head is a different ship than Hiei/Kurama). But, like that ship, I actually never really liked/like the ways fandom portrays them. Characters like Hiei and Amaimon both end up woobified and turned into stereotypical uke characters with the big sexy dom/seme mephisto/Kurama to seduce/play with them.

And to me that always pissed me off bc of how ooc it made them all out to be. I love Hiei and Amaimon bc they're little feral shitheads who have a massive independent streak to them and act/are totally inhuman. They both poke at each other and cause each other headaches and I live for it lololol

They're spicy as hell too and I love that in a ship. The second I saw Mephisto keeping Amaimon strung up on spears in the cuckoo prison that was it for me 😩👌🔥

2. The draw for these characters and the ship is that they're both inhuman creatures that only pretend at humanity, or in amaimons case, is forced to play nice by mephisto if he wants to be stomping around his territory.

What I really love about them, though, is that while Mephisto has the upper hand in the dynamic, Amaimon also knows his character and can see past his clown mask bullshit. He knows the demon Mephisto really is under all the sparkles and show boating. He's an observer and even when Mephisto is focusing on his goals and plots and shows, Amaimon is there on the sidelines keeping tabs and picking everything apart. I think Amaimon thinks Mephisto is interesting or has potentially interesting ideas. The thing about demons is they're constantly looking for something to keep them interested through their eternal existences and with Mephisto, Amaimon has a source of enrichment lol

I also like the fucked up premise of how Amaimon has an inherent trust in Mephisto that gets abused in canon. We saw him getting incredibly hurt by the shiemi reveal, as if Mephisto keeping that info from him meant Mephisto was treating him like one of his human pawns and not with respect as another demon king.

3. I'm not sure if there's an unpopular opinion I have for them, except that I tend to find most fandom treats them incredibly ooc and it makes it difficult for me to enjoy content of them from others. Mephisto as the over simplified seductive seme, doing typical melodramatic evil villain stuff and Amaimon being reduced to a uwu baby idiot who has never had sex despite being a who knows how old demon king. I've got a ton of bitching I've done over the years about it (and it's the same treatment Hiei always got back in the day so I'm used to the frustration) 😂

Rinshi, Don't Ship:

1. Man I feel really bad to say this but this is one of the most vanilla/boring ships in the fandom outside of bonrin. It's just so typical hot headed anime boy protag/girl next door love interest, even as much as they're both incredibly well developed characters, and as much as I love Rin.

It really just comes down to Rin being a, like, base ingredient for me as a ship. Like him being involved in a ship isn't on its own enough to make me enjoy/ship something. (Amaimon, on the other hand, immediately spices any ship up and I've even got a few rinamaishi fic aus out there lol). But I've never been interested in the sweet, hard-working character archetype. I can't help it, I'm into edgy bastard gremlin characters, the antagonists and anti heroes lololol (The exception to this in aoex is Yuri and that's bc she's got that little mischievous bad girl zing to her I love lololol). Shiemi just doesn't have that spice I need to really invest in a character.

2. What would have made me like it is just if Shiemi was a different character lololol like, she's just too sweet for me, like a marshmallow. Her in her string Independent woman era isn't really doing it for me either bc it feels like all her character development got cut out in that training arc she was just in. We missed a good opportunity to see her reconcile things with her grandma and her growth just to watch her toss an Amaimon copy and it feels like we got cheated out of her character arc.

If she just had that little spark that Yuri had it might work for me but I haven't seen it and until then it feels like every other typical anime main character/love interest ship, and it's just never been a dynamic I've never been into.

3. Positive things I have to say are that I think Kato has always done a phenomenal job making her characters feel realistic and not the usual anime shallow stereotypes. So when ppl tell me they enjoy the ship I'm like yeah, if ur into those kinds of characters and that ship dynamic, you've come to the right series to get a really well developed couple who feel fleshed out and who have had a developing relationship throughout the series. Totally understandable, just not for me.

Do Ship: AmaiRin

Honestly TBOE your fanfictions made me ship it lol I was so blind to the possibilities until you opened my eyes. Well, that and the manga actually depicting their relationship a bit more but that happened later. When I saw Rin almost faint at the sight of him, I was like “hmmmmm? That’s not very typical of a Shonen Protagonist, must be something interesting going on in his head” even if that interesting thing was Pure Fear lol. And honestly that same scene made me really re-evaluate Amaimon when Shiemi shoved him aside and he was just like “what” and was actually pretty chill about it. I was soooo expecting him to flip his shit, but he was actually cool and pretty polite about it all things considered. Idk those two things crossed wires in my head and I started to see the light in which Amaimon was actually a decent-ish guy who just wrecked shit cause it was fun rather than because he was specifically malicious, and it made me see Rin differently too, made wiser by his experience instead of the usual shonen stupid. Somehow the intersection between those two perspectives sparked an interest in the ship for me.

Fave things about the ship is the visuals (c’mon we’re all horny here, I’ll admit it) and the overall chemistry as well as the…interesting, character dynamic they have. They’re not exactly Rivals, but they share a girl between them (Shiemi), they’re not precisely a Brother Dynamic, though there’s some elements of it I guess, and they’re not like Mortal Nemesis or even Competitive Friends though that leans the closest to what they are. They have a unique kind of almost-friendship based on mutual (ish) respect, and they can acknowledge each others strength without getting all upset about it, while also not hesitating to knock each other around for funsies. It’s…mature? I guess? In a way? Which is funny because they are SO not mature people lol but you bring em together and it’s like a maturity-brain-cell is complete and they can just…enjoy each others company. While also breaking each others bodies lol.

Unpopular opinion…hm. Well aside from the fact I do not at all consider it incestuous, because that’s not really how Demon Kin work, I’d say my most unpopular opinion is that Amaimon probably enjoys being a Sub for Rin at least occasionally, once he trusts him and acknowledges his power more respectfully. I imagine they switch off quite a lot in fact depending on who needs it more. And that they’re both brats about it at least sometimes lol.

hi! question: what inspired the corruption of earth, or more specifically, the agency?

Sorry that this took so long to reply to! Thank you for asking!

For both, they started when I was 12-13 and used Infinity as an OC for roleplays. One of them involved her childhood at a boarding school. Eventually I tried to make a vague concept for her life/story and some other characters to fit into that. I already had the idea for The Beauty of Earth, which was supposed to be the main series, and that was based on me wanting to have characters of many different genres and species, like fairies and androids and demons. TCOE was supposed to be a prequel series for TBOE, but it's ended up being my main story, and now it's sort of a vessel to examine contradictions in morality and my own life.

The Agency was inspired by two things.

First, it's really nice to imagine some underlying force saving the world from disaster (preventing wars, climate disaster, etc...), acting like a humanity safety net. What's better than that? Making that same force the bad guy. It's the "every utopia is a dystopia" sort of thing.

Second, the Academy part of the Agency is heavily based in my partner and my experiences with school and religion. It naturally developed over time as I started leaving the church, and a lot of what Infinity goes through in TCOE is inspired by feelings of "Do you ever fully get to leave that part of yourself behind? Are you really allowed to move on? Can you? Do you want to?" because of that and other experiences in my life.

as for the world they’re based off of its just like. typical sf bay area in 1992 it’s not post apocalyptic or anything everything is normal and stuff but the worlds in danger so Hanael comes to earth to tell Eden about it, but she’s severely injured in the fall to earth so she can’t vocally communicate. I’m kind of thinking of making it either a web comic with different paths where you can make your own choices, or some kind of game but for now I’m just entertaining those ideas

have you ever thought about Yukio... but with heels? if not, then get ready for the ride. he walks HELLA OBNOXIOUSLY with heels on, those clink clank sounds can be heard from 3 rooms away from you. partially it’s intentional, because he wants to make his presence known and just because he s t o m p s real hard.

he actually matches his heel color to his outfits. he even wears heels with his exorcist coat and they don’t bother him at all when he’s fighting. He literally STOPMS THE DEMON WITH HIS HEEL when he’s finishing it off.

whenever he has classes with exwires, he sits with legs crossed. god help Rin when Yukio notices him falling asleep - he’s gonna stand up and STAMP HIS FOOT on the cold tiles, giving him with a heart attack (and believe me, that CLANK is loud as FUCK. Mephisto even flinched once while going through the hallways).

in his free time - mostly before school in the morning when Rin’s making breakfast, he comes in to the cafeteria (once again, LOUDLY) and begins his day. If Rin manages to make him upset - jokingly, of course - he stops Rin from doing whatever he’s doing, comes in front of him and places his leg on the chair/wall next to him, effectively blocking his access to the kitchen. “Listen, you little SHIT.” Rin is terrified, but approves his heels choice.

if you’re afraid of him being tall now, then i have bad news for you: he looks like a fucking tree while wearing heels. The funniest thing is that he knows it. and uses it for his own benefit.

he DID ask illuminati for white heels. they didn’t have white color, so they gave him pink ones instead (>:)). He goes through Dominus Liminis like a QUEEN. Even if he feels like wants to die, at least he looks good.

Lucifer also approves it. Even if.. it’s a little uncommon to see, he likes it. Sometimes when he’s unable to move and has Homare by his side, he asks her in a quiet tone, “Homare... what if we... (cough) got matching heels as well...?” and she’s like (ಠ_ಠ ).

Yukio will NOT reduce his strength if he kicks Rin when he’s fighting with him on the airship. He might as well almost poke Rin’s eye out with the heel if he doesn’t pay enough attention to the fight (unintentionally, i don’t think he’d go this extreme doe).

Rin is fucking bewildered because what the fuck. How did he fucking get those pink heels? Does the illuminati own a fucking heel store on Dominus Liminis or what?

jokes aside, Yukio’s really rockin’ his heels. he looks and feels genuinely good with heels on, plus they make his ass more prominent, which is a really nice view to look at (unless he wears coats that are below his hips.. please someone tell him they’re ugly or burn them all).

OK so it's been a hot minute and I think this is the ask ur referencing but if not lemme know and I'll answer the right one!

3. Scars or painful spots.

Given kings can heal any scars, painful spots for him would be the general tail vulnerability, and the rot over the years before he gained a perfect vessel, though we've still seen him push it to the limits when he takes his heart out. That's not to say that he doesn't carry metaphorical scars, and I'm really interested in what specifically caused him to go berserk in the past to get him subjugated. The subjugation itself is a scar, both on his mind and the way others view him, making him lesser in the eyes of the other kings and most likely humans as well, just bc it helps them sleep better at night to consider him "weaker" lmao.

8. Bad memories or experiences

Which leads me to 8, the subjugation is a huge soft point for Amaimon, a bruise on him that he can't shake. He hates being ignored and looked down on and Mephisto has even said he "tarnishes" the lowest seat amongst the Ba'al, which is fascinating bc Beelzebub is technically the 8th and final king, but in the hierarchy, Amaimon is considered lesser bc of that subjugation.

10. Fears/phobias

I can see him not really reacting well to any infringement on his freedoms and independence. Like we've seen from Mephisto's hiding who Shiemi was from him, he felt betrayed then. He's most likely got hang ups about being lied to and treated like a human, someone without power basically. After being caged by the subjugation he's likely extra sensitive to ever being in that position again, so any attempts to bind him aren't going to go over well.

i'm so glad someone else out there loves amaimon and gives him the love and respect he deserves

Poor Amaimon literally gets zero respect from anyone in the entire series 🥲 Shima gets more than him lmao

(I have a Hypothesis about that too lmao) like I think his subjugation was something that the other kings see as putting him beneath them, even if he's technically ahead of Beelzebub in the hierarchy (and I'm wondering if he was higher up before the subjugation? Or if power levels don't mean anything/don't mean the same thing to the kings).

Amaimon seems to almost get the same disregard as the nephilim do, like even if he's got a seat at the table, his voice doesn't count for much (I'm thinking of that scene in the past with Lucifer declaring he's gonna destroy Assiah and Mephisto offering the clone solution).

Also at this point I think Rin is being a deliberate shit head to him about his name 😂 He knew it after Amaimon punched him into oblivion during his dinner with Mephisto but I guess it was too long for his memory to last when he finally got out of the clock prison rip

And, naturally, Mephisto's comments about his empty head don't help. We know Amaimon's a lot smarter than that. He was able to figure out exactly how the sword worked to seal Rin's heart in gehenna, think up a plan to get Rin to attack him on the fly, and work as a go between to relay Mephisto's and Satan's messages to each other. I personally think he deliberately played up his teasing and antagonizing to Rin bc Mephisto told him to get him to draw the sword, so he acted as obnoxious as possible, as opposed to his more natural personality.

He's got demon etiquette, not human etiquette lololol Though, again, he's also able to blend in naturally enough that he can stand in line for hours to get souvenirs for Mephisto in Assiah. Unfortunately, he's only motivated by things that interest him and doesn't want to play the game between Mephisto and Lucifer, which, in Mephisto's eyes, means he can never elevate himself to be an actual player, not a pawn.

I think this all culminates in his fandom depiction as childish and dumb, bc he's taken at surface level and also he's stuck in the season 1 anime onlies interpretation of him, which didn't do any of the aoex characters justice lololol

Not that it's surprising, that's the nature of fandom, I'm just suffering with lack of good Amaimon representation 🥲

13. What gets them flustered

So with demons, especially the kings who have been around forever, not much "flusters" them, especially in regards to pleasure.

Amaimon canonically has human worshippers still, and I'm assuming the rest of the kings do too. So he's used to getting respect and adoration from demons and humans alike (even if in present canon he keeps getting ignored and disrespected by everyone rip--I'm still attributing that to his subjugation status too).

But, Amaimon, being the blunt demon who hates being toyed with that he is, does admire honesty and genuine shows of appreciation.

But he doesn't get them often. His status as king means he's separated from most of the lower demons out there and owed their respect, wary of the other kings and their power plays (thanks, Mephisto), and doesn't think much about humans except as "delicate bubbles that pop if you play with them too hard."

Which leaves very few out there who can pay him a genuine compliment and have it actually mean something to him.

When that happens, though, that's what flusters him. When someone notices him for who he is and pays attention to him, especially over one of the other kings, that can shock him because it's not something that happens often if ever.

Aka someone needs to give my lizard some love and respect, damnit 😂

11. if you're a writer or artist, what fic or piece of art are you proud of making?

Definitely Briar Rose Syndrome. While Technically Long Night was my first completed long fic, brs was the one I fleshed out and worked on the longest. The outline alone is like 44+ pages bc of all the planning I put into it lol It had so much of what I love in a story put into it too, circular ending where the home the characters return to is the same but they've changed over the journey, whump/hurt/comfort, fun action, and battle couple amairin (+ meph) pining for 150k words lol

13. your favorite type of fandom event (gift exchange, ship week, secret santa, prompt meme, etc)

I've been enjoying DTIYS and challenge/prompt lists. It's nice bc it gives me more freedom to do what I want instead of being controlled like a Big Bang or Zine. I'm usually not able to do week/month events bc I cannot be consistent to save my life lmao

16. a tiny detail in canon that you want more people to appreciate.

How cool the demons in aoex are!!! Like all the characters in aoex are well done, but the demons and how inhuman/eldritch they are, along with the blue-orange mentality they view humans thru is the biggest thing that drew me to the series in the first place and has kept me coming back. For some reason tho, it seems like the aoex fandom mostly focuses on the human characters/exwires, and they're secondary to me lol I would kill for more ppl creating art/fic for the demons so it's not just me and 3 other ppl tossing stuff around like a hot potato lol

20. your very first fandom!

Yu Yu Hakusho was my first love and the one that got me reading fic in the first place, even tho I'd been watching DBZ, Inuyasha, and Sailor Moon already. I wasn't really active in fandom like I am for aoex tho. I wrote fic, responded and left reviews, and made the occasional comment on art, but I didn't make any friends or start conversations with ppl in fandom. It wasn't until ppl in the aoex fandom reached out to me thru tumblr and we started talking/joining the discord servers that I got more involved.

For the fic ask game:

The most memorable scene that comes to mind is from scent part 2 where Rin just skips down the hallway and then immediately goes for Amaimon's throat. I get whiplash every time I think about it and it makes my day a little better
