Sweet Princess

Sejanus knew something had to be wrong when she didn't come to class. Had he done something wrong and have no idea? He didn't know, so he bought her favorite flowers and snacks before making his way to her mansion. The whole way, he was practicing over and over different apologies.

When the door opened to reveal her, he immediately hugged her tightly, tripping over his words as his apologized.

"Wait, wait, wait- Sej, what are you sorry for? You didn't do anything," She questioned, hugging him tightly and brushing his curls from his eyes.

"I didnt-? But you didn't come to school- I thought I pissed you off." Y/n laughed softly, bringing him inside and gently taking the bouquet of flowers from him.

"No, hon', you didn't do anything. I've been helping my family all day," She reassured, kissing his cheek as he followed her inside the mansion to put the snacks away. "My dad had an emergency meeting this morning, and mom needed my help."

"Ohhh," He replied, visibly relieved. He set the bag of snacks onto the counter as she put the flowers in a vase. "Well, hey, now you have new flowers and snacks!"

Y/N giggled, pulling him into her arms as he hugged back, kissing her forehead. "Yes, I do, and my favorite person."

TBOSAS was not a bad movie, but I do not feel like it accurately represented the book and I'm disappointed

SPOILERS

There were several things I noticed that were missing or changed that I think glaringly miss the point of the book

1) OMITTING THE FACT THAT REAPING DAY IS JULY 4TH............... SUZANNE. "FUCK CAPITALISM" COLLINS. WENT OUT OF HER WAY TO IDENTIFY REAPING DAY AS INDEPENDENCE DAY AND THEY GOT RID OF IT

2) Clemensia. Her story line and Dr. Gall's lab of horrors are all but erased. Not to mention the changing of how Snow was trying to help her out by covering FOR HER... (I know some of this was probably cut because of a) animal rights/didn't want to try to fake bad cgi effects and b) this is probably one of the things that they had to cut to keep it PG-13)

3) I'm not sure if it was Tom Blyth, the director choices, or something else. But Snow's changes in behavior felt too....erratic, random. Not like a man who is trying to be cunning and conniving, like a snake. And they REALLY downgraded Tigris and his grandmother)

4) The Covey. Giving them hardly any screen time, I know Lucy Gray says her name but I never think we're actually "introduced" to Maude Ivory. But their role was downgraded so much.

There were a couple other changes like removing Arachne Crane's funeral, Snow gettiny the guitar for Lucy Gray, and changing around the timeline in Sejanus' death that are noticeable but not distractingly so. I do think not including the meeting between Snow and Sejanus' parents was a real loss though and might've helped my second issue.

There were some things that I really liked; Sejanus was incredible. He got a little more focus, I feel, and it was great. A lot of good expression work/realization moments (Tigris at the end realizing how Coriolanus has changed is immaculate). And I really liked the portrayal of Reaper, how he yelled at the audience and his acceptance of his death. It made me really think about Rue and District 11 and how so much of the rebellion began with her inspiring Katnis.

Overall, it was a decent movie but not the best adaptation and I am a bit disappointed

:0 I'VE BEEN WAITING NY WHOLE LIFE FOR THESE QUESTIONS THANK YOU!!! (Though all my answers will be based off of the movie since I haven't read the book though I wish I have)

1. Neither, and both (very conflicting ik). Because for me I think Lucy Gray was a victim, though I don't think 'innocent victim' would be the right term. She was a victim who played her cards right. My first impression of her would be that, she's awesome and I will love her no matter what happens. And that's still true... But at the same time she confused me; her character overall wasn't something I could solidify. And I walked out of the cinema wondering, who is Lucy Gray Baird? Which could be the point of it actually. We could never actually know Lucy Gray as she is but we only know her through Coriolanus' eyes since the whole thing is in his pov. So she's pretty much a mystery, a person whose spirit cannot be caged, or solidified.

And as for her love for Coriolanus, I think she did love him in some way. But on both ends it kind of blended together their need for each other in terms of self preservation, as well as their actual feelings. It was doomed from the beginning. They've always valued something more than each other. For Coriolanus, he valued his need for greed and power more than love in all forms. At least his twisted possessive perception of love... Heavy on twisted. And as for Lucy Gray, she valued trust more than she does love. So when she gained suspicion about his involvement with Sejanus' death, she lost all trust. The one thing she valued most over love. So maybe she did, and as well as he. They just prioritiezed something greater than their love.

What happened in the end left me at the edge of my goddamn seat. AND I LOVE IT. I love how her ending is up for interpretation! It's a mystery just like she is, and it's very fitting. I love how it's something we cannot cage, we cannot actually fully solidify. Kind of like music! So I love how we all have our own versions, our own theories, and ideas while we never get to know what actually happened. Does she get shot by Coriolanus? Does she survive and escape? And if she does survive him how long did she? We'll never know! I love Lucy Gray Baird.

And as for the theories I don't like them much... Especially the coin one. Lucy Gray would never commit the atrocities coin has 😭 but then again like I said she's a mystery and we'll never know...

Also... I can't help it, okay? Both Lucy Gray and Coriolanus Snow are the songbirds and snakes in their respective ways and I will stop myself because my thumbs are sore though I might not help myself and do it later.
