RED NOVEMBER RAFT Hatched from El Guincho in the Marathon weast of Cape Albert. Blasted in the moonlight with Avalon & Sip on the bridge, the Cuban raft came kipping thru the night vision. Shoved off with a case of Solento, Shaaks on the brain, Montsz & a 3 day surprise Red Snapper window, the Wild Child jam session in the Dry Tortugas with a tender lovin SeaVee nearly lost in tow, was rocketing to zenith status. Starring Johnny Montana, Uncle Edible, Big Dawg & Co. Peaking on a pathfinder mission with an impossible DTX diver minnow landing a Wahoo in minutes flat with no GPS while dodging a high speed tropical meth troller, I imagine this all is what victory on the high sea looks & feels like, in no particular order. OKAY! so a whopping 3+ weeks later, let me tell you about my first convention in Artist Alley!!!!!

Rose City Comic Con 2017 was a blast!

I mostly want to thank the folks who helped make this con so great for me: my table neighbors on either side of me.

I had @tdcart on one side and @processormalfunction on the other, both of whom had done cons before and were super helpful and supportive of noobsicle me. Thanks to both of you for helping table-sit and food-run over the weekend! It was also great hanging out with you!

Special Super Duper thanks to @processormalfunction ‘s sister squad, Karan (do you have a tumblr???? also is this how you spell your name??), who drew that BEAUTIFUL picture of Mavia & co. that I love so much! She read through my book over the con and gave invaluable feedback and questions, ten million points to her!

Other than that, my most popular prints were Korrasami, Gravity Falls, and Ghibli Girls, I’d say. I also had 2 different people tell me my Batwoman looks like Diane from Twin Peaks, which I could not confirm, nor deny b/c I’ve never seen Twin Peaks X’D. I was so happy and grateful that people were interested in my book, and I sold a few copies of Mavia. 

Going forward, I’m going to set up an Etsy shop to sell more merch, so, stay tuned for that! I’m going to try to sign up for more cons (at least one per year I hope), but this time I’m going to try to stay local! turns out duffle bags full of nothing but paper products: INCREDIBLY HEAVY.

I’ve always been a bike enthusiast & rider, & I’m thrilled to finally share the trail to my exclusive new collaboration with bike legend/ artist Quas Gandolfo @q_bikes . These first two built (for collectors) are original & unique in every detail. All hand painted frames by yours truly, the first is curated with a 1950s Schwinn DX model frame, Landing Gear fork with 1 1/8” conversion. Alloy coaster brake wheels with Hookworm 2.3 tires. Cromo 3pc crankset with ProFile sprocket. Vintage handlebars and modern platform pedals. The second hand painted frame by yours truly, is curated with a 1941 Schwinn DX model frame with Tange bmx fork. Wheels are original 1941 hubs with Araya OG rims and modern Tioga tires. Stem is Tuf Neck with Als Rapid Transit bars and lock on leather grips. Saddle is Brooks B-15. Cranks are vintage Redline 175mm with ProFile Spider and KkT pedals. Chain is Izumi gold. TODD DICIURCIO x ROB MACHADO x TEMAKI BAR Excited to reveal some of my latest interior art project @temakibarsushi . This original installation features @rob_machado_surfboards designed in collaboration with my friend and surfing icon @rob_machado . I created an original mural inspired by our surfboard triptych, which is the origin of the overall design concept. Rob and I created the triptych in his Encinitas workshop with only the color palette in mind. The continuum came together subconsciously, utilizing my reactionary marks within the vessels, freeing those exact colors to express the composition of the mural, thereby synthesizing the shapes and contours to cohesively exist in the new space. Rob and I originally became connected in 2011 and have collaborated on several projects since, forging a frequency around art, surf culture and East meets West coast ethos. A unique journey began in 2011 when my friend @taylorsteele introduced me to @rob_machado in NYC after his Melali Sessions Band performed, which I captured live in a drawing side stage.  Some years later on a visit to Encinitas for @solento_tequila (which the three of us became co-founders of among an incredible family), I had the opportunity to paint a board for Rob and the idea was forged to collaborate at his Oceanside factory. The work created became a balance point of thought provoking original marks applied to hand hewn shapes,  juxtaposed to embody a counterculture ethos. These exclusive original vessels were created to commemorate our 2nd annual @solentosurffestival happening now in Encintas and will be exhibited @alilamareabeachresort September 21st-29th. Epoxy, acrylic, carbon fiber on polyurethane foam vessels

In this new body, @rob_machado uses carbon fiber wrap technology to embed DiCiurcio’s original image, creating a shadow effect through clear resin across the surface of 5 hand hewn vessels. Their edges smooth but deliberate, the microclimate within runs lateral to the shape of its origin, while two others run in parallel juxtaposed behind, all forged from a single TDC painting.  Concurrent to the @solentosurffestival & it’s projection, the duo references the phenomenon of Young’s double-slit experiment, an anomaly in light that gives way to intensely unifying dialogue, yet remains a mystery. Similarly, the surf culture & it's films inspire generations & a unifying language of never-ending individual expression.

These works are on display in the lobby @alilamareabeachresort in Encinitas, Ca. Please drop in to experience them & all the resort’s incredibly creative amenities.
