'Kay, so game verse and anime/manga verse are kind of different. Even the game name says "alternative rap battle" instead of division rap battle.

(I assume u already know TDD Era and stuff.)

It was another mundane day of your life. Pillows surrounded your figure, as you flipped pages of the manga (online or not, up to you). Your drink of choice nearby you, ready to be drank and yet, you are too preoccupied with a manga that you recently found out about. This past months, you've been listening to drama tracks, the songs and reading the manga. The storyline is quite complicated in the beginning, but the more you read, the more you understand. You felt so many emotions during the reading process. Sadness, anger, happiness, love. You were so hooked on it.

Unbeknownst to you, figures inside the said manga were having an existenal crisis. Nothing really new to Ramuda, but you get me. The days have been going as they used to. Rap battles went well. Nothing seemed out of place except for the strange feeling. The feeling of being watched. No one understood why did they feel this way. It was not a stalker was it? They became paranoid, until they started hearing voices. Who is it..?

First ones to become self-aware: Ramuda, Rio, Saburo, Kuko(?), Sasara, Iris, Gentaro, Doppo, Otome.

Everyone finds out or accepts it later, then the characters I listed.

I think some of them hated you, some didn't mind you, while others ignored you. They thought you would leave after a while, and yet, you stay. Why are you watching them?

For some reason they can somewhat feel what you feel towards them. Perhaps their universe is intune with your emotions? Would...would they all die if you stopped liking them?

Their world seems to constantly change as well. Why? Some days you were watching them, and sometimes talking. Other days you..sang along with them? Tried to help them sing better? Helped them during some battles..? (Game moments)

It certainly took everyone a good while to warm up to you. Some warmed up quicker than others (Dice and Jiro, they thought you were some guardian angel or something. Like- you're helping them fr)

Ren smiled, “Ah, it’s nice to finally put a face to the mysterious manager who created TDD, and not only that but I’ve heard nothing but praises about her from nearly every division that’s competing here, ‘DRB’s Mama Bear’ they’re calling her, haha. Honestly, I would love to meet her, not only does she seem to be the embodiment of kindness but she’s also the perfect mother, I…really could have needed someone like her while growing up…” He trailed off slowly, a frown along with the furrowing of his eyebrows marring his face as some…unpleasant memories flashed in his head, he quickly shook them off, perfect smile immediately replacing his previous frown.

“Besides, maybe she can give me some tips on how to better raise kids, I love Ayano and Ryōhei but sometimes even I get stumped, it also doesn’t help that Ayano really loves pulling pranks on her classmates.” He shakes his head.

Lola Takahashi

He chuckled at the model’s picture, “I don’t think I ever met a person who hasn’t heard of this woman, not surprising since she’s the number 1 model on the billboards and I won’t lie, she is beautiful but no offense to Lola…floozies aren’t really my type, that and I met so many of them since my career took off that it’s honestly starting to get annoying. Besides, I’m sure she has (literally) millions of guys just throwing themselves at her feet in order for just a fraction of her time.” He silently laughed, grinning as he spared a knowing glance to the side before looking back at the camera.

“But other than that, Lola-san is pretty fun to hang around, I always see her at the parties I’m forced going to and sure enough, she’s right there, either hyping up the club, tearing the dance floor to shreds, or drinking the entire bar under, seriously, does she not care about her liver?”

Kureha Koizumi

His eyes widened as he stared starstruck at the picture of the artist, unknowingly tightening his grip of said photo. “Angel…” He breathlessly whispered before quickly clearing his throat and putting on a beaming smile. “Ah! This is the Angel I serenaded from my first concert!” He happily exclaimed. “For those who don’t know, I have my imps and my angels, my imps are just my fans who I am so grateful to have, it’s a term of endearment! My angels however, are a bit special, each concert I choose one lucky person in the crowd and pull them up stage, then I sing them their favorite song and this cutie right here..” He held up Kureha’s picture.

“Was the first person I pulled up on stage, the song she asked me to play was ‘Demolition Lovers’ from my 1st album and between you and me, that’s also my favorite song, I swear I couldn’t forget a beautiful face like that even if I tried, the moment we locked eyes, I knew she was the one…” He sighed as a dreamy look appeared on his face before quickly snapping out of his daydream. “To be picked, of course! Ahaha, don’t worry, I adore all my imps and angels equally but I owe it to Kureha-chan, she…and all my fans are the reason why I do what I do and why I love doing it.” He smiled but there was something unreadable in his eyes.

Man, we (Lovesick) have a long way to go if we want to even get a fraction of popularity they have. The innocent; 'Oh Kim Nam Gil is in it imma watch this!!!' into a definite favourite drama of the year and all time favourite thriller IM-.

I love how TDD has tone, themes, is subversive and just really respectful.

Tone: it's always dark and moody and somewhat melancholy, but at the same time its... hopeful. Because it tackles real cases and is based on a book by the first Korean profiler; it handles the most sensitive part in thrillers that the genre rarely explored; the emotional part. In many ways, Through the Dark was bound to not have many watchers due to its uncomfortable themes.

Yet the show handled sensitive issues well; this show focusing its lens on the bereaved families and the struggles of the police searching for answers, and how it affects them mentally. With superb cast and advice from the first Korean profiler himself onset and the care and respect to the real victims and their families from the writer and everyone, this show became a masterpiece of some sorts and DESERVED all the praise from the critics and the watchers. (WILL be mad as hell if it doesn't get nominated at least one Baeksang).

With TTD, it's different because the characters are NORMAL people just doing their best too. Its subversive in a way that the main characters don't have any connections to the victim, or the big bad guy. Main lead, (my BELOVED 🥺❤️) Song Ha Young is not even a genius or a character with no emotions-which an archetype we see a lot in Korean thriller dramas- he is just a person who's soft-hearted with a heavy sense of duty, trying to do his best.

Song Ha Young is really; personality, characterisation, micro-expression, Ha Young is literal angel mannnn I love him sm.

It being a 12 episodes drama did not make it face-paced by any means- it definitely has a coherent rhythm due to its great tone and pacing- but it took it time to set it and has one of the best buildup in this genre like EVER. You love Ha Young as he's an honourable sweetest man (for real) with a nice perm, and you feel for him and feel really worried witnessing his struggles. But he's Ha Young, he's strong and will stand tall.

TTD sets the BAR for future thrillers of the same theme. May we go through this darkness with a hopeful outlook!

Ichiro is a bit of a mess, but he's getting better. He used to be pretty bad, working as a debt collector for Mozuku, doing drugs, and drinking, etc., but thanks to his brothers, he's gotten out and gotten clean.

Unfortunately, during that period, his relationship with his son, Rei, turned sour and Rei ran away at a fairly young age. Ichiro has been trying to repair his relationships, especially with Rei, but Rei isn't interested or receptive at all.

Jiro and Saburo live together, Jiro as a PE teacher at a middle school and Saburo as a white hat hacker/computer security stuff.

Jiro and Saburo's relationship with Ichiro isn't the best, but after Ichiro started getting clean and shaping up, their relationship has improved enough to form a team.

Jiro and Saburo are aware of Rei's existence but haven't actually met him before.

Mad Trigger Crew

Not huge changes here, Samatoki still works with the Yakuza, Jyuto is still a cop, and Rio is still Rio.

Jyuto isn't quite as experienced in being a corrupt cop as canon, so Samatoki makes sure to cover for him whenever he stumbles.

Samatoki is a big brother through and through, so he keeps an eye out for both Jyuto and Rio. His relationship with Nemu is okay, though sometimes she thinks he's the dumbest fool in the world.

Rio is more than well-aware that his survival cooking is not for the faint of heart. He finds it hilarious how Samatoki and Jyuto stutter and flinch whenever he brings it up, as well as how easily they falter under his puppy eyes.

Fling Posse

Ramuda deliberately makes sure as little people know his actual age as possible

It's one thing for a 24 year old to act cutesy and call girls "onee-san," it's a whole other thing when it's a 30 year old, no matter how cute and small he is

Ramuda finds Jakurai small and cute, so he sometimes goes and harasses coo over the boy, though, there have been times where the cops have been called for suspected pedophilia.

He's free from all the Project lambda stuff since it got exposed years ago and after a long hospitalization, he's completely healthy. You might even run into another clone occasionally, though they're all split to the four winds, each having chosen to pursue their own dreams.

Gentaro still is a writer, though he usually wears normal clothes. Honestly, he's way too old to continue to wear a kosode and hakama everywhere. It is way too hot out, plus he's not in his 20s anymore, when he thought it was cool and unique.

Dice is Dice. He's a gambler, though he does make sure to keep enough money around for rent and food. He's old enough that he's not so dumb enough to gamble away everything. Plus, he doesn't want to worry his daughter, Otome. She's already pissed at him enough.

Dice and Otome have a fairly good relationship, though that might just have been a result of Dice being an attentive and easygoing parent and never having to live with each other. Otome cares a lot for Dice, though she hates his gambling addiction.

Matenro

Everyone's pretty sure Jakurai is a mob boss or something. There's no way 14 year old should be able to live alone and be financially well off. Jakurai just smiles through everyone's suspicions, and since there's no proof, no one can do anything about it.

Jakurai acts like a literal angel, though, if you anger him, he might actually stab you (*cough* Ramuda *cough*). Jakurai, Hitoya, and Rei are friends, though no one knows how are when, they just are.

During the TDD era, Ramuda, Ichiro, and Samatoki acted a bit like pseudo-parents for him, though nowadays, while they do their best to keep an eye on Jakurai out of a sense of responsibility, Jakurai is content to ignore them.

Doppo and Hifumi are together and happily so. They still tell most people they're just roommates, due to Doppo's lack of confidence, but they're pretty content together.

Hifumi still works at a host club, though he does fumble sometimes from having less experience. Sometimes he doubts himself because he's not as old as his peers at the host club.

Doppo is just as self-deprecating as always, though there's a whole helping of fatalistic humor as well. His favorite way to relieve himself of stress is to hug Jakurai.

Both Hifumi and Doppo love Jakurai and really worry if a 14 year old living alone is okay. They like taking turns hugging and cuddling with the boy and Jakurai is somehow okay with it.

Dotsuitare Honpo

Sasara is in a pretty happy relationship with Rosho. They've moved past their issues in their youth and are now together.

They live separately, though that's mostly because of convenience for their workplace rather than because they want to

They planned to move in together soon, but their plans are put to halt when they meet Rei

Rei is a student at Rosho's school. He's not a bad student, just a bit inattentive and laissez-faire when it comes to others.

Rei helps them out of a bad situation and shows that he's good with a hypnosis microphone, but nopes out of the situation before either Sasara or Rosho can talk to him. He gets caught by Rosho the next day at school though.

Somehow, he gets roped into joining Dotsuitare Honpo, but there's a gleam in his eyes that tell Sasara that he's pretty pleased with the outcome.

When they find out that Rei lives on his own in a really rundown and small apartment, they freak out a bit and then try to make him move in with one of them.

It... kind of works? Rei still works on a near daily basis and insists on paying rent, but at least he's not living in a shitty apartment anymore.

Rei isn't used to people caring for him, having pretty much raised himself, and it shows. Any bout of affection is waved off with a laugh, light teasing, or a strained grin. When Sasara and Rosho find out that his dad is Ichiro, Sasara gets a little bit more than just mad at at his former teammate.

Bad Ass Temple

Kuko is a full-on monk at the temple, having taken over the temple after his father's retirement. He met Jyushi there, who was praying for luck for his next concert.

Kuko has calmed down a lot since being a teenager. There's still bouts of anger sometimes, but he's mostly exasperated, especially at Hitoya. Kuko is super interested in Jyushi, but not sure how to make his intentions clear without startling the other man or inciting Hitoya's ire.

Jyushi is still a sweetheart, though he's not as permanently attached to Amanda as before. He's a very popular idol/music artist, primarily is visual kei, though he does do other things.

Hitoya originally was a homeless kid, though he did occasionally crash at Jakurai's place. His pride wouldn't let him do it too often, scared of becoming too reliant on the other boy or showing himself as weak.

Jyushi met Hitoya when he was in Tokyo for a concert. Somehow, he convinced the boy to come live with him. He took him back to Nagoya and that's where he's lived since.

Hitoya is very, very protective of Jyushi. He thinks Jyushi is too naive and air-headed for an adult, so he does his best to protect Jyushi from his stalkers and any other people that could hurt him. He's a bit of a hothead and comes off as overzealous and even hissing at people who stand too close to Jyushi.

Jyushi is very patient with Hitoya and thinks he's the cutest kid in the world, an opinion that Kuko very much disagrees with.

Kuko sometimes feels like apologizing to his father after dealing with Hitoya, because damn, was he ever this bad as a kid?

Chuuoku

Otome is young, but she's not stupid. The world sucks and she's doing her best to make it a better place, especially for women. Being responsible for an entire country is overwhelming at times, so she's grateful for Ichijiku's help.

The men vs women agenda isn't quite as fervent as it is in canon, and Otome does her best to include all LGBTQ+ in her equality agenda

Ichijiku still hates men, but she softens a bit when it comes to Otome. The girl is young, but dang if she isn't doing her best.

Nemu willingly works with the Chuuoku, though she is very tired of her brother's dumbassery. Seriously, who actually calls themselves Mr. Hardcore without being embarrased?

Otome used to live with her mother, but she got sick of all the "being a lady" BS that traditional family spout and ran away once she was old enough. Dice being her dad, helped her settle on her own and sending whatever money has sometimes.

Once she overthrew the government, she has a steady home and paycheck, so she regularly sends money and visits him. Thankfully, the money is never spent of gambling because Dice finds it too precious to throw away like that.

“Aaagh!” Emiko cried out as a pair of rough hands pushed her back, knocking her flat onto the hard concrete. If this were a normal fight she’d be angry, but this wasn’t normal. She tried desperately to hide the distraught on her face; the quivering on her lips, the salty tears threatening to leak from her eyes. She tried not to look at him, but his wild gaze pierced through her soul as he sneered down at her.

“Tch. You really are a pathetic little brat.” Kuko spat through his teeth as he looked down in clouded hatred. “I thought I told you to get the hell outta here!!” He howled. He went to grab her by the shirt but she quickly avoided him and gripped his arm. Digging her nails into soft skin to keep him from thrashing any more.

She wasn’t nearly as strong as him nor Ichiro when it came to a fist fight, and she wasn’t all that experienced when it came those sorts of situations anyway. But she wasn’t about to let him get away with this. Using all her strength she clutched into his jacket and threw him to the ground just like he did her, but it didn’t do much good.

“I said leave me alone!!” Kuko yelled again, scrambling to his feet, fists ready. Emiko hadn’t prepared for him to swing, but she narrowly dodged an incoming fist, surprised by the attack and everything beforehand. As Kuko had openly stated before he had a thing against hitting, specifically punching, girls.

“And I said NO!” She kicked him on the shin of his left leg as hard as she could, using the tip of her boot for good measure. It hurt, not just the aching of her foot but the fact she landed a hit.

“Stop it Kuko! You know why I’m here, why would you do that to Ichiro—!”

“Would you shut up! You and that Yamada b*****d are just the same!” He said as he brought himself back up to his feet.

“I hate you! I-I h-hate you!” He was shaking, his hands too as he curled them up into violent fists. He was silent, but only for a few moments before they started up again.

“Why?! Why do you hate us all of a sudden! You’re acting like a child! I don’t want to fight you anymore!”

“Of course you don’t! Always the angel playing that innocent little girl act! Well that’s old s*** and I’m sick of hearing it!!”

“Shut up Kuko, just stop it!”

Her voice was breaking, everything was breaking. Yelling went to screaming as their fight echoed through the empty streets. Disrupting the peaceful tranquility of the temple. She wanted nothing more than to fade into that quiet, all by herself where no one could find her.

What happened next really set her off, but she just couldn’t stop herself either.

“Why don’t you go cry to that sick scumbag you’re always dragging around?” He jeered, “He can barely defend himself, but that siscon has to rely on a brat like you just to stay alive!”

He didn’t get a chance to say anymore. As Emiko’s small hand came down on him like thunder.

The flood gates opened, and the tears poured out.

His left cheek was a bright red now. She expected him to fight back or at least let out some cry in retaliation, but Kuko stayed silent. In fact, he didn’t utter a single sound from there on out.

“Don’t you dare talk about Kazue like that! Or Ichiro!” She cried, “They’re more of a man than you’ll ever be! I-I’ll go if that’s what you want. But I never want to see your face again Kuko Harai! A-and, I will never be your friend again!” Her voice quivering through her little speech, but she meant every single word of it.

Never. Never. Never never never never ever again!

With that Emiko ran. Ran and ran and ran, all the way back to her castle, waiting with its king. Leaving the dragon all by himself in his lonely cave.

“Ah there you are Emiko!” A cool voice froze her blood cold as Emiko quickly hid her face with her sleeves, acting as if she were rubbing her eyes. Which in fact she was.

“Hi Mom.” She replied, doing her best as to not sound too dry. She glanced down at the purple workout carpet to avoid unwanted gazes as she quickly made her way to the staircase. It’s clear she came in at the wrong time.

“Oh, is this your daughter?” Emiko froze once more at the edge of the staircase as another voice called out where her mom sat. On the other end of the couch was a man around the same age as her mom. He was sharply dressed, a bit too sharp.

Great. Another one.

“Yup, that’s right,” Her mother claimed. A warm smile played onto her lips, “Now, Kazue’s upstairs. Make sure he takes his meds alright?” That look in the woman’s eyes made that smile look mismatched.

A look that said, do not ruin this for me.

Grateful for the short conversation, Emiko raced down the hallway to her and Kazue’s shared bedroom. It took a lot just to keep the door from slamming.

“Hey! You’re back!” Kazue exclaimed, he hadn’t seen the her red puffy eyes nor the black dirt that stained her clothing. “Did you get a load of the new guy? How long do you think this one’ll last? I give it a w—” Immediately he dropped the console he was holding as Emiko collapsed into his arms. Settling down on the foot of her bed, she buried her face in the crook of his neck as he held her, trying her way to become as small as she could.

No words were exchanged, none were needed. She knew he’d ask what happened later, but for now, all she wanted to do was fade away. Fade into the silence together.
