Happy new year, friends! 🍾🎊I hope you are all having a relaxing holiday and spending some quality time with your family. I spent a week bed-resting to recover from two knee injuries, and having delicious food cooked for me (thanks hubby!) 😋 of course I can’t wait to come back to painting—start 2019 with my first attempt at a full portrait in watercolor, following the tutorial of @kellyeddington. Although holiday season is behind us. The coldness these days calls a cup of hot cacao. The first lesson with @janelip_art was fantastic. Even though I had a little trouble finding the right colors, the reds were getting streaky (with only 5 layers), and one brown marker kept releasing unwanted ink blots,🤦🏻‍♀️ I think I’m getting around understanding how marker drawing works. It was fun painting flowers in the month of April, but I need to start learning some basic watercolor techniques. This is the little chick I painted following the tutorial of @kellyeddington in her “Strathmore learn to paint watercolor basics” (yes, I got almost all the book in the series. Hehe). I made some correction of the beak with white Indian ink and it cracked horribly. Here is the best I did try to fixing that. It’s my fifth try for this gorgeous sunset scene. Some are more successful than the others, but I’ve leaned a few things along the way. This is the difficulty of watercolor but also its advantage. You have some kind of control but sometimes just have to go with it. I painted the whole thing on the soaked paper, to have more time to play with the clouds. PG&E proposed a safety shut off since yesterday: generators are sold out; traffic lights stopped working; the kids’ school was closed for the last two days. We are waiting for the other shoe to drop. The image of this mother and daughter walking alongside is so tender and touching. I have two little girls myself. It’s difficult not to be moved. I finished it a few days ago, as part of @kustova_anastasia watercolor marathon. She is a great teacher.
