Team Masho vs. Team Uraotogi

Previously: Dr. Ichigaki vs. Rokuyukai

Mashoutsukai cheats and their match is held directly after Uraotogi's previous. In addition, Onji and Shishi are tented by Ruka the Enchantress. Beautiful Suzuka has gone over strategy with his team the previous night. Jin, a consummate bro, sits out.

Round 1: Gama vs. Makintaro. They're both Bakken tier at best. In the manga, Makintaro isn't even able to regrow his limbs, although anime Makintaro can trash whatever body part Gama paints. Kurama also has black hair in the comic so that shit's barely hc, so Makintaro wins. He had to cut off like six or seven arms and a leg tho

Round 2: Bakken vs Ura Urashima. Bakken is probably physically stronger than Ura, but can he set up his mist/kill Ura before Ura sets up his force field and opens the Idun Box? Is Ura skilled enough with his fishing line to maintain his distance? This can go so many ways, but Ura's attack actually hurt Kurama, while Bakken beat the shit out of an unconscious Kurama and did little damage. Ura fishes for Bakken in the fog and deals a lethal blow, no Idun needed

Fwiw I know Onji would give them different items for different fights, but since we have no examples, it would be entirely speculation

Round 3: Toya vs. Kuro Momotaro. Toya legit was trying to kill an entirely immobile, defenseless Kurama from step one and still failed. Kuro uses one sphere and bodies the little ice twink

Round 4: Risho vs. Kuro Momotaro. My dude lost to an injured Kuwabara. Like fucking Byakko only lost to himself, let's be honest, so this is Kuwabara's first real win (kendo stick man doesn't count; he fights with a hunk of wood, he's not a serious person). And his big finishing move is just more clay for his armor of clay. One sphere. Ez. By this time Jin has already left. None of this was worth his time and that island was actually tiny af anyway

Team Masho sucks more than Team Uraotogi wins. Kurama no diff'd Gama and Toya was so cumbrained he talked to the cute fox boy for half an episode instead of realizing his lethal strikes weren't killing him; so Kuro's abs have a similar effect. Jin could at least win by ring out against Kuro and then sweep the others (if he doesn't fly into any of Ura's fishing lines), but Team Uraotogi are such scumbags that he'd have no interest -- ears not wiggling/10

Just a fun little thing I noticed that did really fully occur to me until recently...

Ok so in the beginning of the tournament Kurama is wearing this:

It's a very nice battle outfit shirt, pants, belt and a unique color coordination. However as we all know he does change his outfit, and he changes it after the team Masho battle which of course he does the poor outfit is scrap:

Kurama changes to his most recognizable fighting outfit which he is seen in multiple times throughout the show. But here's what's really fun! As you can see in the second picture Yusuke is in his most iconic battle outfit as well. Here's the kicker:

The picture of Kurama is a little off in color but I think we can all see what I'm getting at here. We all know Kurama has multiple colors of this outfit yet he chose to match Yusuke! You can't see their shoes in this but both are also wearing the same black Martial arts shoes (which isn't too surprising but still). I honestly can't believe after hundreds of rewatches I only just realized how matchy matchy Yusuke and Kurama are for part of the Dark Tournament.

You joined the urameshi team in an unofficial way, how? By being kind of a healer. You had decent healing abilities that also recovered stamina, just a little bit, but it was good enough to help the boys go on to the next challenge!

In the fight against team Masho you slightly recovered Yusuke's stamina. That called the attention of one of the members, not in a bad way, no he was actually very interested in you.

You only came to know this through Yusuke. He said the red headed youkai - Jin - asked a few questions about your ability and mentioned it to be "convenient ".

It slightly annoyed you to be seen as just convenient. But seeing how much Yusuke liked the guy, you just brushed it off.

You decided to grab some ice for the Urameshi team - they would probably need some - while they rested for a bit after the fight.

While you were looking for an ice machine or anything remotely like it, you heard a voice from behind:

??: Hey! It's you!

You turned around to see no ody at first, but then a chunk of fluff red appeared from above. Soon you could see blue eyes right in front of yours:

Y/N: Ah!

You almost fell backwards from the scare you had by having Jin suddenly appearing in front you.

What broke your fall was Jin himself, he noticed you lost balance and held you by your arms:

Jin: Sorry, sorry! I didn't mean to scare ya!

He was grinning. It kinda pissed you off how much he was grinning, but you just sighed:

Y/N: It's… it's fine.

Jin: Ya sure 'bout that?

You nodded at him. He let go of your arms and proceeded to make some questions:

Jin: So… what are ya doing here on yer own? It's not good for a human to walk alone around here.

You were a bit taken aback, but his concern seemed genuine:

Y/N: I just came to get some ice… or try to…

Jin: Hm… so ya lost?

You didn't want to admit it, but you burning cheeks couldn't hide it:

Y/N: ….A little bit?

Jin: Haha! I see! I will help ya! But in exchange tell me more about your ability!

He happily pulled you along. It felt as if you didn't say anything he would have pulled you along anyway.

But you did indulge him and gave a brief explanation of what you could do and soon enough you were standing in front of an ice machine:

Jin: Oh, so ya can heal stamina too?

Y/N: Yes, I can. Not much though.

Jin: That is so convenient!

You were growing annoyed again. But before you could say something he mended another sentence:

Jin: That would be so helpful and it is also a great trump card to have ! Can ya heal ya own stamina?

Y/N: No.

Jin: Ah… I see, gotta be careful to not run out of it…

Y/N: Yes.

Noticing you were done with fetching some ice, Jin asked you:

Jin: Shall we go back now?

Y/N: You… are walking me back?

Jin: Yeah, it's dangerous here, besides that will melt.

He pointed at the ice bucket you had:

Y/N: We are not that far though?

Jin: Hmm… I guess not… but I can take ya there! It's a lot faster!

Y/N: Take… me … there?

Before you could think better Jin swept you off of your feet and literally flew around the halls. You were scared for dear life, so with your free hand you held to his neck, which only made him giggle.

When you got closer to the boy's room, he dropped you off, quite gently.

Jin: How was it? Faster huh?

Y/N:... Yeah faster…

Jin: Wasn't it fun?

Y/N: It was.

As soon as you said that you smiled. At the moment you noticed your smile you tried to hide it away. You stutter your way into thanking him:

Y/N: T-thanks for… for helping me.

Jin: Sure! Remember to not go around on your own!

Y/N: Sure, I will keep it in mind.

Jin waved you goodbye and you kind of waved back. He wasn't that bad, he was kind of nice. A little crazy, sure, but good hearted.

You wondered if you'd be able to talk to him again, smiling to yourself. Little did you know Jin was already thinking how nice you were and lowkey cooking up a way to talk to you more freely.

You seemed a little too shy for him, so it would be his mission to make you smile more!

I'll do Rajura first! I feel like the Masho, similar to the Troopers, have a brotherly relationship it's just a different kind of one. More antagonistic. It seems like they don't care about each other but they do in their own fucked up way. Out of the 4, I feel like Rajura is the oldest brother (I think he literally is even?) and worries a bit about the other three. It's just the way it comes out is scolding them for 'doing it wrong' in general. Even if he doesn't seem to like them, when they might be in trouble, he'll check in with them. (He's the only one who seeks out Shuten on jis own to be like "Uh, hey? What do you think you're doing?") Also, one of my favorite illustrations is where the 3 remaining Masho are gathered around Shuten. :') A family can be 4 college-age guys that got scooped up by a demon.

Okay more Seiji content under the cut so I'm not flooding your dash with a wall of text.

Building off talking about the Masho! How about the relationship between Seiji and Anubis? Back in my fanfic reading days (circa 2004) I liked stories where if it's post TV series, they become friends but like- frenemies. Like they are riding a real fine line of liking and hating each other. I should honestly draw this but here's an example:

Anubis: Hahaha, you and the Kirin girl? That's hilarious, you have bad taste."

Seiji: *sigh*"What do you want Anubis?"

Anubis: "Nothing, I was just confirming that you were still that foolishly softhearted."

Pause.

"...By the way, do you think she knows any wolves? Like maybe a woman that's also a wolf?"

Seiji: ...

Anubis: ...

Seiji: *recalling that Kotone has a friend who's a nearly 7ft tall werewolf who's into boxing.* "...Yeah, she does."

The whole starting the 3rd round immediately makes no sense because;

1) Screws vendors out of an extra day’s worth of tickets people would’ve needed to pay for to get readmitted, not to mention concessions and hotel fare for another day.

2) Screws over people who paid for extra tickets or days at the hotel in advance too. In general it would throw off a lot of people’s plans to double up on fights one day and leave a big empty hole in the schedule where it was originally planned.

3) Did anyone else besides Team Urameshi fight in the 2nd round? How did they determine who else qualified to go up against them?

4) What if Team Masho weren’t already at the stadium? What if they were sleeping in or having lunch at the hotel or exploring the island and prepping for a fight they weren’t expecting for another day?

One of the satisfying defeat in Dark Tournament. I just love how Yusuke broke this guy’s bones (satisfying sight ever), reminding him what he did to Kurama. Serves you right, Bakken!
