Can someone write a unit plan for how to understand an End User License Agreement?
I bought a $50 TV that comes with Amazon Fire and the first thing it did was spend 10 minutes installing mystery updates, then force me to agree to Terms of Service. Before I could use the TV that I only want to plug a USB into.
Almost nobody in the world has ever read the Terms of Service. Even fewer people actually understand what they are agreeing to. Whatever Amazon is demanding from me, I am only certain that I do not agree with their Terms.
So we need to make these terms much more legible. But we also need to be literate in this bizarre dialect. This should be taught in school.

Digital Citizens; Future Builders.
Tumblr media
As the world changes and evolves, plenty of new concerns emerge, particularly as technology increasingly dominates our lives. Everyone's life has been greatly impacted by technology, which practically everyone uses to communicate, connect with people outside of our country, and generally make life a little easier. So, in order to stay up with the changes, we must also adapt. However, we must never lose sight of the limitation.
Knowing your role as a digital citizen who acts appropriately and cautiously when you interact online is critical. Be very responsible, respectful, and aware of your behavior online to ensure your safety. Don't reveal too much personal information. To interact with others safely and appropriately in the digital world, think critically and analytically. In addition, as new platforms are created and quickly gain popularity, a variety of social issues arise. In order to uphold our social, ethical, and legal obligations when using technology tools and resources, we must also show that we understand how to use it in ways that will not harm anyone. Spread the word about beneficial things, adhere to technology usage regulations, and always make the right decisions.
Let's use technology to build a better society as digital citizens!

The Rise of AI: Computer Skills You Need to Navigate the Future
Tumblr media
AI is nowadays used for either restructuring already built industries and jobs or industrializing everyday life; it is an all-encompassing influence-from the automation of complicated processes to providing intelligent insights. In a world so far being occupied by such a technological revolution, one critical question comes to mind: What computer skills are necessary to steer through this AI-powered future and flourish through it?
That's a good thing! There is no way AI means robot workers taking over all jobs. The jobs are just changing, requiring a new set of technical skills coupled with uniquely human abilities. Developing future tech skills will be the map to navigating through this new digital world.
Why New Skills Are Required in an AI-Driven World
The rise of AI is not about creating the AI specialist; rather, it is about democratizing AI tools. With this, the workforce needs to be able to:
Work with AI: How AI systems work, to use them effectively as powerful tools.
Adjust & Innovate: Learn and apply new technologies continuously as they evolve.
Address Complex Problems: Undertake challenges with the aid of AI-based insights requiring critical thinking.
Identify Relevant: Make sure the skill is identified at any time as AI is engaged in mundane tasks.
Core Computer Skills for the AI Era
While some specializations are restricted to deep AI developments, a few basic computer skills have started to become essential across the board:
1.     Data Literacy & Analysis:
An AI system uses data. So, one must be able to interpret, clean, and analyze data. This is beyond merely operating Excel: it includes understanding data structures, considering occurrences of patterns, and extracting some meaning from them. Advanced Excel for Careers or any basic data analysis tool would suffice.
2.     Programming Concepts (With Emphasis on Python):
Python is a universal language for AI and ML. From a readability standpoint, diverse libraries (NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch) to choose from, and for its use cases-it is a very valuable language. Essentially, if you don't want to become an AI developer, a working knowledge of Python will help you feel comfortable interacting with AI tools, creating simple scripts for automations, or handling data. One should consider enrolling in Python programming courses in Ahmedabad.
3.     Basics of Cloud Computing:
AI models and many applications tend to get hosted on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). Basic knowledge of cloud infrastructure, cloud services, and cloud deployment models will be more and more useful when it comes to accessing and using AI resources.
4.     Problem-Solving & Logical Thinking:
AI systems are tools. The ability to identify a problem, break it down, and logically devise solutions – whether through coding, data structuring, or AI integration – remains a core human skill that AI enhances, not replaces.
5.     Understanding of AI/ML Concepts:
You don't need to be an AI scientist, but having a conceptual grasp of what Machine Learning is, how algorithms learn, and the capabilities (and limitations) of AI will empower you to intelligently apply these technologies in your domain.
Uniquely Human Skills: Your AI Superpower
Beyond technical skills, the AI era emphasizes human attributes that machines can't replicate:
Critical Thinking & Creativity: AI can analyze data, but humans ask the insightful questions, devise novel solutions, and bring innovative ideas to the table.
Communication & Collaboration: Effectively communicating AI-driven insights to non-technical stakeholders and collaborating in cross-functional teams is vital.
Adaptability & Lifelong Learning: The pace of change will only accelerate. A willingness to continuously learn, unlearn, and relearn new technologies is perhaps the most important skill of all.
Preparing for Your AI-Powered Future
The good news is that acquiring these computer skills for AI is more accessible than ever. Consider:
Specialized AI Training: Look for AI & Machine Learning courses that offer practical, hands-on experience.
Programming Bootcamps: Intensify your Python or other relevant language skills.
Online Courses & Certifications: Platforms offering specialized modules can supplement your learning.
Practical Application: Work on projects, big or small, to solidify your understanding.
The rise of AI is not a threat to human capability, but a powerful invitation to evolve. By proactively acquiring the right blend of technical and human-centric skills, you can not only navigate but also lead the way in our exciting, AI-powered future.

Technology, grades 7+, Downloading and Transforming YouTube Videos
Do Now:
Open your YouTube history and look for music, podcasts and other content that you don't need videos for and would like to own an audio-only copy of.
Direct Instruction:
Show students how easy it is to download YouTube videos and convert them to MP3 files by copying the video's URL and pasting it into this website. When the file is downloaded, play it for them to show that it works, even when disconnected from the internet, then immediately delete it. What you have done was for Educational and research purposes. If you keep this video for your own private enjoyment, then you are breaking YouTube's Terms of Service and are technically breaking the law.
Talk your students through the first half of the 2024 article by Liam Curtist entitled YouTube Converters Explained: A Full Legal Breakdown. The second half is basically an ad for their video editor.
Guided Learning:
When the article gets to the following section, go into greater detail about what the following situations mean.
Educational and research purposes: A teacher downloading a YouTube clip to show in a classroom may qualify as Fair Use. For example, using a 30-second clip from a Kamala Harris speech to discuss public speaking techniques. Transformative content: If you're downloading a video to create something new, such as a parody, critique, or commentary, this could fall under Fair Use. For example, downloading a movie scene to create a reaction video where your commentary transforms the original content.
In particular, explain what transformative means in the context of media. Memes are transformative, for example, and therefore subject to Fair Use. Video and audio content can also be transformative if
Demonstrate to students how to use Kapwing's easy and free video editor* to create transformative content that does not violate YouTube's ToS.
Higher Order Learning:
Students work individually or in groups to use Kapwing's easy and free video editor* create their own transformative content, for educational and research purposes. This should be a lengthy project that requires a rubric of your own design. When complete, students may legally download their own video and keep it for themselves. You may** be able to host a few of them on the school's website.
*I did not take the time to understand how to use this video editor.
**Check with your school administrators well-in-advance of planning this activity. They may need to run it up the chain of command to ensure everyone is comfortable with the legally gray areas. If you don't want to get the school board involved, then maybe don't attempt this lesson.

...at least for now. AI image generation technology is rapidly improving. This will likely be totally obsolete by this time next year.
Technology, all grades 5+
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A.I. photos are flooding social media and contributing to an Internet where we can't believe what we see. Spotting A.I. 📷s is an important media literacy skill.
None of us have time to research every image we see. We just need people to notice BEFORE THEY LIKE OR SHARE that an image might be fake. If unsure, check it or don't share.
I've started drawing some comics explaining the basic of AI spot-checking and media literacy in the age of disinformation. Follow along here or on my Twitter.

I assigned a writing prompt a few weeks ago that asked my students to reflect on a time when someone believed in them or when they believed in someone else. One of my students began to panic.
“I have to ask Google the prompt to get some ideas if I can’t just use AI,” she pleaded and then began typing into the search box on her screen, “A time when someone believed in you.”
“It’s about you,” I told her. “You’ve got your life experiences inside of your own mind.” It hadn’t occurred to her — even with my gentle reminder — to look within her own imagination to generate ideas. One of the reasons why I assigned the prompt is because learning to think for herself now, in high school, will help her build confidence and think through more complicated problems as she gets older — even when she’s no longer in a classroom situation.
She’s only in ninth grade, yet she’s already become accustomed to outsourcing her own mind to digital technologies, and it frightens me.
When I teach students how to write, I’m also teaching them how to think. Through fits and starts (a process that can be both frustrating and rewarding), high school English teachers like me help students get to know themselves better when they use language to figure out what they think and how they feel.
. . .
If you believe, as I do, that writing is thinking — and thinking is everything — things aren’t looking too good for our students or for the educators trying to teach them. In addition to teaching high school, I’m also a college instructor, and I see this behavior in my older students as well.
-----
This! This is what scares me the most about AI! Physical exertion is difficult if someone isn't used to it, and it gets easier the more often it's done. When it's done often enough, it becomes a habit. Mental exertion is exactly the same. Thinking is a learned skill just like a sport is, and an entire generation is growing up without that most critical skill.
An unthinking populace is a more easily controlled populace.

and "farewell," they cried, "wherever you fare till your eyries receive you at the journey's end!"
hi, tumblr's lovely people,
as we come to the end of another semester my dear hobbits (and I am Gandalf the Grey and White in this case), I am saddened to inform you that this is the end of our great journey (but don't believe me, whatever I say is over is just the beginning of another exciting adventure). welcome to the last post where I can talk to you about the pearl of our time, technology, and Disney.
I am sincerely happy that I was able to take the Current Issues course. I found it really useful in the way that the approach the course aims to take pushes the limits of teachers' creativity while at the same time expanding the boundaries of what we can do in and out of school. my favorite tasks were definitely the AI-integrated teaching materials and the flipped classroom assignment. these tasks emphasized creativity while showing the integration of AI in language education and also gave us the space to make our dreams come true, which, as usual, was to include Disney animations in our assignments. there was not a task that I didn't quite enjoy because I was able to find a way to combine them all with things that I loved, so I think that all future teachers should be enthusiastic about this approach where they can engage with things that they love.
as we part our ways, as Gandalf the White said at the end of the greatest trilogy ever written: well, here at last, dear friends, on the shores of the sea comes the end of our fellowship in Middle-earth. go in peace! I will not say: do not weep for not all tears are evil.
thank you so much for being with me until the end. I always say "I wouldn't probably", but for the first (and probably the last) time I will say I definitely would. I will always be one virtual step away. farewell!
until next time,
with love... and obviously education, doğa
