The thing about Richie is he'd always been generous.

He'd also always had money. He had allowance, then extra allowance and then the 'treat' money one or other of his parents slipped him just because they wanted Richie to have a good time.

Eddie, who's allowance could graciously be called meager, could only envy him. Richie got his allowance on the 1st of every month. Eddie got his allowance only when his mother felt like it. If she decided Eddie needed a new medication that month then there was no allowance.

Eddie braved it out as best he could. He dug around for loose change down the back of the couch and picked up pennies abandoned in the street. It was disgusting but if he wanted to hang out with Bill, and Stan, and Richie then he needed money.

For Stan and Bill, he needed money for milkshakes and ice creams, sticky treats to take to The Barrons.

Hanging out with Richie cost considerably more.

He needed arcade money, movie ticket money, popcorn and sodas money on top of the milkshake and ice creams Richie also liked.

For a couple of trips he managed to scrape the money together but there was always some new release, some new blockbuster Richie needed to see and Eddie just didn't have the money.

Eddie bluffed.

He told Richie his mum wouldn't let him go. In a way it was true.

Richie turned up anyways, ready to spring Eddie from his mother's house and Eddie had to tell him, crumpling under the shame of it, that he didn't have the money.

But Richie, generous Richie, just flashed him two tickets - already picked up and paid for.

They didn't talk about it but after that Richie always paid for Eddie.

He paid for him at the arcade, brought him ice creams and sodas, got the tickets and the popcorn for both of them. Every time Richie paid for something it made Eddie feel a little giddy.

He wondered if this was how girls felt when guys took them out on dates and paid for everything.

And sure Richie held doors open for him, but just because he said Eddie's spaghetti noodle arms were too weak to hold them.

Their hang outs weren't really dates.

But Eddie sure did like to pretend they were.

im imagining reddie going on their first date when they’re 15 years old and they’re both so nervous and neither of them really know what to do because. they’re 15. but before they met up richie practiced a bunch of pickup lines to use on eddie and he pulls the one where he asks “do you wanna kiss”

and eddie is absolutely FREAKING OUT because he’s still trying to process the catch that he asked richie out and richie said YES and now they’re ON A DATE like a real live actual date-

but then eddie looks over to richie and sees richie holding out a bag of hershey’s kisses with a stupid shit eating grin on his face

Beverly messing about with the boys - putting mascara and lipstick on them and they're all laughing and telling each other they look beautiful.

When she gets to Eddie she decides just to focus on his eyes. They're so big and beautiful. She has eyeliner pencil and mascara.

Richie goes oddly quiet when Eddie's makeover is revealed to them.

"Do I look ok, Rich?" Eddie asks shyly because Richie had a moment ago been trying to get Bill to kiss his cheek to see if the lipstick would leave a mark but now he's just not doing anything.

Eddie assumes Richie hates it which shouldnt matter but Beverly said Eddie looked really good, not funny good and Eddie thought maybe Richie would think so too.

Richie swallows dryly and nods.

"You look great, Mr K, even better than your mum."

Eddie would later discover that every time Richie said "your mum" he was actually saying "I love you"

thinking about,,,post derry 2.0 reddie where eddie becomes very aware of how much richie eats like. all the time. he remembers him as a young teenager, a growing boy in need of protein and carbs all the time, but it’s nothing compared to the way richie at forty years old can down a bowl of katsu ramen in record time and ask if they have leftovers from last night’s dinner. richie got a lot bigger in the last thirty years, but eddie revels in it. he loves how richie can just completely encompass him, loves his soft stomach and thick arms and thighs, and richie seems to be happy with it as well, so eddie has zero complaints. he also not-so-secretly loves how much richie eats—it gives him the opportunity to learn how to cook new food alongside his husband, who’s always been a whiz in the kitchen, much to eddie’s chagrin—and he’s always happy to indulge his latest cravings, whether it’s something homey and comforting like maggie’s baked mac and cheese or something eddie’s pretty sure came to richie in a dream (richie will admit that the dessert spaghetti was not a hit). eddie’s always seen food as necessary for survival, but not much more than that. richie helps him see that food can actually be enjoyable and that you can have fun with it. richie loves food, and eddie loves richie, so of course he’s going to make more of an effort than he had in the past.

I talk a lot about long hair Richie but what about awkward length in between Richie. he's just decided to grow it out and it's long enough to get in his eyes but not long enough to be pulled back. he's constantly playing with it and it's making Eddie insane with how much he wants to fix it
