#finding in @epoquefinejewels collection at @tefaf: a gold, silver, diamond, enamel and opal Peacock by Philippe Wolfers, which was recently discovered as the central piece of the missing ‘Paon’ tiara from the Wolfers’ archive. Here’s the official story of the piece: “Epoque Fine Jewels recently purchased the peacock as a brooch from the descendants of Mrs. Léopold Kronacher, born Marie-Laure Brunard, who had commissioned the piece from Philippe Wolfers. After doing some research, the peacock was recognised as the centerpiece of the missing ‘Peacock’ tiara. The peacock was probably detachable to be worn as a brooch and hence the original tiara fitting didn’t survive.” An old photograph from the period help to reconstruct this masterpiece. An original picture from the Wolfers’ workshop shows that the peacock’s crest was slightly reduced, probably to make it easier to wear as a brooch. The ring was discovered in Les Enluminures and purchased by the King Baudouin Foundation (Christian Bauwens Fund) on the opening day of TEFAF Maastricht 2020. This unique ring, produced in the 17th century, took its place in the DIVA collection. It is quite mysterious with its materials as well as its visuals. It reveals the level of the jewelery technique in the 17th century. According to the information obtained, the ring will continue to fascinate visitors with its unsolved mystery, charm and elaborate details in the diamond, jewelery and silver museum in Antwerp. As I have just stated, the meaning around this rare 17th century ring is not entirely clear yet, and it adds a mysterious air to the jewelry. It's like a mysterious and forbidden love story that cannot be put into words. When opening it, a portrait of a man appears at the top and a small statue of a gardener with a flower and a rope on his shoulder against a dark dark enamel at the bottom. There are strong claims that he could tell the love story of a wealthy and important woman who fell in love with her gardener but had to keep it a forbidden secret. While opening the ring, she would see both her husband at the top and her secret lover at the bottom.
