beastars episode 24 thoughts!

this post got kinda long i have Many Thoughts on this one

Overall I had fun watching this ep but I could really tell it was rushed and there was so much that got cut, which makes me super sad. our fears about the finale having pacing issues due to all the added scenes & rearranging were confirmed & it rly sucks, but i'll elaborate more on that in a bit.

this week's ep covered the end of chapter 92, chapters 93-97, and included small bits of chapters 98 & 99.

so the ep starts with the ED and the latter part of the tunnel scene with ibuki and louis. i liked the visual effect they used to show that they were in the dark. louis' voice acting was also On Point. for the most part i think this scene was done pretty well but I can tell it's being rushed also. I really wish we got more buildup and narration instead of just jumping straight to ibuki telling louis to shoot him. the way it is in the anime feels less impactful imo.

also im sad we didnt get to see this in the anime

before i move on, i wanna talk a bit about louis and his relationship w/ the shishigumi and ibuki. i feel like in the anime quite a few of the lil moments that really endear you to the shishigumi and also ibuki were either cut or kinda glossed over, which is strange to me considering how much effort and care went into the ED. it's very emotional and good but i feel like maybe anime onlies are missing out only seeing the anime and the MV. but idk.

legosi and riz's fight was quite rushed as well. there's so much narration and dialogue missing from it and that really rubs me the wrong way. It wasn't all bad but compared to the manga I just don't think it's as good. I will say tho that I really liked the sequence w legosi and the moths. I thought it looked really nice and was pretty well done.

also i liked how the backgrounds had some anti-yahya graffiti, its a nice touch imo

I was happy to see legosi do the "tell me more" pose but I'm honestly disappointed that the anime took out the whole exposition about why legosi did it. like i feel like without that it's just legosi being weird when he has a reason for it!!! This is just one example of the anime taking out crucial narration during the fight.

I also think it's kinda weird how they changed how louis shows up at the fight. im not sure how i feel about riz just charging at him like that, but i liked how legosi kicked him before they ran lol.

i dont have much to say about pina's small scene but I did wanna say that during my first watch thru of the ep i was too distracted trying to read the graffiti behind him that i didn't notice him getting his phone out of the dumpster and calling the cops lmao

and now... here we are... the predation scene.

overall i thought it was pretty well done but, like the rest of the ep, i could tell it was also being kinda rushed. some important beats werent given enough time to really sink in, and there's a few bits of narration taken out of this part as well that i find disappointing :^(

tho i did like how the anime called back to this scene in s1 when legosi mentions utilizing his strength.

also this part where louis is remembering ibuki had me like😭

I also really liked seeing louis cry. I was crying too sjdflskjdflsjkdf. i thought that scene was really good, its prolly my favorite part of the ep tbh. getting to hear the whole predation scene voiced made me kind of a mess lol. i really liked louis' expressions throughout this whole ep too. studio orange used their whole louis expression budget on these last 2 eps lmao.

seeing legosi instantly get all beefed up was great too. he looked a little ridiculous but i kinda loved it lol. he's so huge and poofy. i love him.

anyway, im also sad they took out louis' line about being reduced to a flashback character lol. instead he tells legosi "be a hero" again which... im not sure about that change. i liked the part with riz thinking back about tem tho. tho imo the way riz realizes he's in the wrong feels pretty sudden. again adding to how rushed the whole ep feels.

before i move on again i just wanna say legosi looks so cute. even all puffed up and covered in blood. how does he do that

i think one of the things im most disappointed about from this whole ep was how the fight got wrapped up. i really like how the cops show up and totally shift the tone in the manga jslkdfjskljdf. im also really sad we didnt get this interaction

tthe anime really took out most of the sillier moments from the finale, which makes me pretty sad to think about. i know the anime and manga have different tones but pls let the boys be silly sometimes!!

the next part where legosi and louis finally establish their friendship was really cute tho ❤️ even tho it was pretty different i enjoyed it a lot.

the wrap-up for this arc and this episode gave me whiplash sdjlfkjsdf. it literally speedruns thru legosi's predation conviction, being released, louis & haru's graduation, and legosi deciding he's going to drop out of school. that is SO MUCH AT ONCE. also i was holding out hope that legosi would have his new years call with haru after the fight instead but that didnt happen!! so it just got cut!!! kinda mad about that tbh. legosi and haru having a lil scene at the very end made up for it a lil bit but that's still one of haru's few moments in this arc that's just not included.

we didnt even get the part wher legosi learns he can't marry haru bc of his conviction.

ive been really hoping for a season 3 announcement once this season ended. with all the background allusions to yahya, the added plot point of someone stealing elephant tusks, and sebun and melon's lil cameos in this season, it seemed to me that studio orange was kinda teasing a 3rd season. but now, with the dismissive way the anime ended, and paru's note from earlier today, im less sure about the possibility of a 3rd season. i'd still like to see the rest of the series animated, but i guess we'll just have to wait and see if more anime is announced in the future.

if we do get another season in the future i just hope that we swing back around and actually address the things that got completely glossed over in the last couple minutes of this episode instead of charging forward w/o touching them again.

i really think the finale for this arc should've been two episodes at least. not including the tunnel scene. i think then things wouldn't have felt so rushed. people have been saying this season really would have benefitted from at least 1 extra episode and i cant help but agree. some have even suggested a whole 24 episodes just for this arc, but i think that this arc couldve been done properly with 12 or 13 episodes if there was some better prioritizing on what to include and what to cut.

like i dont mind not getting the parts about legosi's family if they can be addressed somehow in a future season (or if theres no more future anime seasons thats a plot thread that doesnt have to be worried about). i could have lived w/o seeing sheila & peach's chapter animated if it meant more time for the focus of this arc. and was the kangaroo red herring really necessary?

adaptation wise, i dont think this season was as good as the first. i still think it did fairly well, but i know that it could have been much better. ive been excited to watch this season with my friends once the dub releases, but now im wondering if i should just tell them to read the manga instead. sighs idk. perhaps it comes thru better as a bingewatch, or perhaps im being a bit too harsh. idk. at some point ill do a rewatch and see how i feel about the season as a whole, but that wont be for a while.

I didn't really know Cad Bane before this episode although I have heard him being mentioned in the fandom - I'm only in SW fandom cuz of Din (and now Boba Fett - uh, also, could you please tell me all the shows and movies I need to watch related to Tem's characters/BF in the franchise? Where should I begin?); his questions are my questions most of the time- and I was like Holy Shit. Who is that?! and then saw GiFs of his from the animated series and he is so hot??? Whoever VO'ed him and whoever was the stand-in artist... Good job fellas. He was my fav part of today's ep besides Din lying down.

Sorry for the wait Anon! I became a star wars fan only a few years back myself so I understand where you’re coming from.

Everyone has a different order in which they think people should watch star wars content. I’m also not a star wars expert lol But I’m going to give you a basic run down of what I think you should watch movie/show wise to help with understanding of boba and other characters involved in tbobf.

Firstly, I would definitely start out with the main movies if you haven’t yet. Specifically start with the Original Trilogy (Movies are: A new hope, The empire strikes back, and return of the jedi) as those were the first things we ever got of star wars. Empire strikes back is also the first time we ever see Boba (I mean technically you see him in the star wars holiday special first but yeah). Next watch the prequel Trilogy (Movies are: The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith). You get another look at Boba in Attack of the Clones. However it is younger Boba with his dad! But you definitely want to see this one for more context with bobas past and his father. You could watch the sequel trilogy after these ones if you want. But the sequels don’t add more for boba so you can skip them for now.

After that watch the clone wars movie. You get introduced to ahsoka in this animated movie, and it leads more into the clone wars show. I honestly ended up watching this after watching all of the clone wars show because I straight up didn’t know about it till after lmao. But I would suggest watching this before watching the actual clone wars show. In terms of boba’s story you don’t need to watch it. So you could watch it at a later date if you wish. I just think it adds more to tcw show.

The Clone Wars show would be next. I find it more enjoyable after you’ve watched the first two trilogies which is why I usually suggest it after watching them even though time wise it takes place during the prequel era. You get to learn a lot about Ahsoka and the clones. Along with this, you also get another look at Anakin Skywalker, Luke’s father. Cad Bane is featured in episodes as well! And this where most people know him from. Some people will tell you to watch the seasons in different order from the season numbers but I honestly just watch them how they come. The start is a bit slow in my opinion tbh, but its enjoyable and gives so much more context to characters appearing in tbobf. Also boba does make appearances in some episodes! Adds more to his character, especially considering he’s young in this. So you definitely want to watch this show at some point.

Now I know some people may argue with me on this, but I personally don’t think it matters what order you watch the bad batch or star wars rebels in after watching the clone wars. Either way would be fine. Though I think certain episodes of the bad batch are more enjoyable after watching star wars rebels even though the bad batch does take place years before rebels does. It takes place right at the end of the clone wars to be exact. So some people suggest watching it before star wars rebels to newer fans (keep in mind we literally just got bad batch last year so many fans have already watched rebels before bad batch anyway which is another reason why I dont think it matters).

The Bad Batch. You get to see Fennec and more of Cad Bane in it. Just keep in mind that the show has received cristism by fans for being very whitewashed. If you want to know I’m talking about read the unwhitewashtbb carrd. It explains issues in the show. Maybe read it after you watch it though as it may have some spoilers. Honestly you don’t need to watch this really, but if you want to see more cad bane and fennec you might want to as they do feature a bit in this show. You would do fine not watching it either way I’d say. Not much for Boba is added. It really just talks more about the clones and honestly Boba is only mentioned very briefly.

Star wars Rebels. (For more Ahsoka stuff). There’s actually references in the Mandalorian show to this show through Ahsoka. So even though it really doesn’t add more to Boba’s story, it does add some to ahsoka’s. Either way I would watch this at some point. Also my favourite jedi Kanan Jarrus is in this show I think you should watch it so you can meet him. :3

I think that would be enough for you to understand what’s going on in tbobf and the characters. In the end, I think the main things you would definitely want to watch is the original trilogy, prequel trilogy and the clone wars stuff. The other two shows just add more context for certain parts.

Star wars has a lot of media tbh. There’s more movies and shows on top of what I mentioned that you may want to want, but they aren’t needed to understand tbobf. There’s even books too (though I’ve only recently started reading the books myself).

Other things I suggest to watch when you get the time regardless of tbobf:

Solo movie

Rogue One

Sequel Trilogy

Star wars visions

And anything else I may be missing lol

But yeah, for understanding more of boba and tbobf definitely watch the original trilogy, prequel trilogy, and the clone wars stuff. And then like maybe watch the others if you want to.

I stand by my first answer tbh. But outside of her, Hunter is more dominant than Lucas, but that mostly takes the form of fierce protectiveness and a refusal to let anyone hurt his baby.

Who’s the cuddler:

The problem with this question is that it implies that either of them would ever not be a cuddler when in fact, cuddling is something they have been doing since before they ever got together.

Absolutely nothing because fighting is for losers, and they are both very much winners (and if they ever argued, the world would end).

It’s pretty 50/50. Neither of them is anywhere close to being a messy person whatsoever, so all cleaning tends to be done throughout the day as needed, together.

Lucas, although Hunter is perfectly capable of cooking as well; he helps out of course, he just lets Lucas generally decide on the menu and handle the bulk of the cooking.

Nicknames for each other:

One day, they will change their birth certificates to read ‘angel’ and ‘cupcake’, though they are both rather fond of ‘babe’ and ‘baby’.

Who is more likely to pay for dinner:

Whichever one of them is able to put their credit card down first.

Who steals the covers at night:

They sleep curled together, close and tight, in a comfortably warm bundle, so there really isn’t any opportunity for one of them to steal the blankets.

What would they get each other for gifts:

Literally everything. Tickets to shows and necklaces and watches and trips, Hunter gives Lucas so many art products and sketch books and Lucas is endlessly spoily in terms of writing materials and books.

Who kissed who first:

Lucas kissed Hunter, but Hunter made mention of wanting to kiss Lucas first. Honestly, considering that they were both pretty tipsy, it could have gone either way — Lucas just happened to beat Hunter to the punch.

Who made the first move:

Again, Lucas, but it as really a matter of time. They had been growing closer for a long time, and their inhibitions were significantly lowered thanks to booze. Lucas called Hunter attractive first, and then Hunter commented on ho attractive Lucas was in addition to how much he wanted to kiss him. It was really more of a mutual thing, but Hunter would say Lucas made the first move, if only just by a few seconds.

Who remembers things:

Both. Anniversaries, birth dates, when they need to go grocery shopping.... neither of tem has any sort of issue with remembering these kinds of things.

Who started the relationship:

Whoever’s idea it was to hold the party that ended with them making out honestly. It was probably a mutual agreement so really, they’re both responsible.

Who cusses more:

Ha. Haha. Hahahahahaha. Neither of them is afraid to throw in the occasional cuss word to emphasize their sentences. That isn’t to say that they have sailor mouths on them, but they most definitely aren’t strangers to swearing if the situation calls for it. Always keeping it classy, of course.

What would they do if the other one was hurt:

The go-to answer is ‘commit homicide’ but that would only occur after checking on one another and taking endlessly good care for however long the other is in need of. Hunter absolutely will not stand for any harm coming to Lucas, and neither will anyone else in the little family of friends they have, and Hunter is fully prepared to destroy anyone who hurts Luc.

Who is the dirty talker:

Neither? It just isn’t something that I can imagine either of them finding sexy, at least not to some excessive degree.

(tbh tho, most of this visit didn’t really go well)

...The center of attention, of course, was the table at which Evelyn sat with two other guests. Beside Evelyn and watching Kitty and Temanii approach with a quirked brow was a dark skinned young man. Across from them with her back to the approaching pair was a very tall woman with long, curling copper hair. Ev was scowling at this woman until she followed the man's gaze and practically fountained what she was drinking at the woman in front of her when she saw Temanii. The look of shock gradually turned into one that promised retribution as it fell on Kitty. Kitty was intensely proud of herself. No one but Kitty was expecting you, Temanii.

Temanii blinked at the table and additional guests, suddenly deciding she was woefully under dressed for the occasion as it slowly dawned on her that she had been lured into some form of social trap. File that one away, Tems, cuz you're learning who Kitty really is. With a deep, steadying breath, Temanii forced to recollection the years long instilled social graces the came from being raised by her house and quietly whispered "all eventualities must come to pass," a thought drummed into her mind by Doctor Ryny, her Asura once-mentor.

A person could not afford to be ill-prepared, after all, if every possibility would eventually come to pass. Holding her head high and wearing the pleasant little smirk that she'd learned from her mother, Temanii approached the table and flashed her warmest smile to Kitty, waiting for her to make introductions, as her guest.

Kitty's grin widened as she watched Temanii's reaction. It was good she could adapt quickly. Not only did it make her more fun to have around but it meant she might be able to deal with the complications in the relationship she'd picked. Namely the copper haired woman who, after giving Evelyn a very stern look, turned to see what in the world Kitty had done this time.

"Good afternoon, Mother! I've brought a new friend along to meet you. Lady Temanii Lainite is the heir to the Rurikton Judiciary," her smirk widened just for Ev, "Temanii, this is my sister, Evelyn and her fiance, Lord Markus Danmar. And this lovely woman is our matriarch, Elysia Crestwood."

Introductions made Kitty showed Temanii to her seat, staring at her mother while she chivalrously pulled out Temanii's chair for her, and took her place on Ev's other side. She chuckled under her breath as Ev kicked her under the table.

Temanii dipped her head with a small smile to each of the people seated at the table in turn as they were introduced. "Ladies Crestwood and Lord Danmar, thank you for your generous offer to join you for luncheon. Lady Catherine hadn't mentioned such prestigious company, it's quite a delightful surprise."

Temanii slipped into her seat, doing her best to focus her attention between the Ladys at the table she hadn't kissed. She also somehow didn't seem interested in looking at Markus until he addressed her first.

Okay Tems, it's gonna be one of those games. Keep on your toes, no booze, and look for a clever opportunity to hit Kitty back. Can't let her think she just outright won this round.

Elysia's default facial expression was sour. She didn't seem to particularly dislike Temanii, as she looked at each of her children and her future son-in-law in much the same way. Perhaps casual disdain was just her default mode. She nodded in Temanii's direction with all the (self-important) dignity of someone greeting an inferior who was only just good enough to be in her house sitting with her instead of cleaning it.

"A new friend." She sipped her tea, giving Kitty a skeptical look over the cup, "I wasn't aware you had any. How did you meet?"

Kitty casually leaned back and put an arm around the back of Temanii's chair., "Well I decided to see what Evelyn likes so much about the Brothel in the Salma district so I decided to vi-Ack! Evelyn, your foot seems to keep finding mine under the table."

Temanii coughed out a laugh, taken off guard my the not-so-subtle prodding. "Six, she's funny. We actually met because I worked for Lady Margaret for nearly two years. Transferred to her Sandford Cabal by the Durmand Priory some time back. I met Lady Catherine by chance through my employer." Temanii leaned forward a bit, resting thin, delicate wrists on the edge of the table and flashing Kitty a warm, sweet smile that practically screamed "your move."

Okay, smooth save kid, but keep on your toes. Track how Kitty works, she's playing a game, you can play it too. Just gotta keep cool and think quick, no biggie. Can't let anyone think I'm a whore. Though... it would actually probably pay better... huh...

The temperature dropped about ten degrees when Margaret's name was mentioned. Evelyn grimaced, Markus looked away, even Kitty raised her brow, impressed that Temanii managed to touch a nerve this quickly.
