Second Trimester~
Pros:
My appetite is way better! Not that feeling hungry was really the issue before, but I can finally do something about it and eat when I want to!
We are timing our announcement as Christmas gifts for the grandparents, so hopefully after this I can be more open about needing help.
Baby is growing well!
Energy levels are better. I can be more independent and not burden my partner so much/ do things for myself.
Some supplies for the baby came in the mail! We picked up two baby gates and a bassinet because they were half off. It feels really nice to interact with baby things. Sometimes it feels too early, but also I want to take advantage of sales or get things done while I have the energy.
Cons:
My si pain has been out of control. I’ve been wearing a tensor belt and doing some exercises for it, but it’s still hard to walk. Like, at all. I had trouble getting from the bed to the bathroom. My leg gives out.
My city/ province has gone into a full lockdown (which is a good thing and should have been done sooner) but it makes it so hard to be pregnant. Not to mention this extra level of background stress as rates get so bad, because worst case scenario hospitals are not an option.
Also not totally pregnancy related, but covid has found its way into my family and I’m so scared. It’s literally the worst of us to get it. I’m so scared and angry.
Also tangentially related (but I feel like these stresses count because trying to keep from letting stress effect the pregnancy... is getting harder): Our roof is leaking! We had the slightest thaw yesterday and last night a drip started in the bedroom. I don’t want to get into it, but our condo board refuses to act and legal help is too expensive, but also we can’t take care of it ourselves because the exterior/ roof is condo board purview.
Also I’m an idiot who decided to start a masters degree while pregnant and I have to finish my last assignment of the term and an application... and I just can’t do it. Every time I start working, I have a panic attack. It’s like everything crashes down at once. I almost passed out yesterday trying to force myself. I don’t really know what’s going on.
Symptom! Despite drinking prune juice, eating tons of fiber, not eating anything unless I consider the effect on my ..gut, drinking lots of water, drinking restorolax, drinking a full black coffee (at my midwife’s suggestion), and a number of other home remedies everyday... I’m so constipated. My record so far is not passing anything for at least 9 days.
I think something else is going on with that last one but the midwife just says “not pregnancy related. Talk to your gp” and my gp says “it’s because you’re pregnant”, passing the buck back and forth. It’s also an embarrassing problem to try and get help for...

Daily Doodle 115 – August 9, 2018
It took us a while to figure out how to operate even the doors..
The car was pretty gosh darn fancy though!
Today I woke up a bit later, Pixie was still sleeping and I didn’t know at what time I had to go down to the city. I got on my PC later and once he woke up, I asked him when I’d go down. The plans for today were different but I’d go down regardless
I headed down, refueled and got to his house. Once there, I waited until he arrived from sorting some stuff with the school, then we took the Miata for a spin. It behaved fine but sounded like a sprinkler when we were done driving. Anyways, we then took my car to get myself breakfast, then go to the Walmart where I got out along to buy some supplies for Pixie, then buying lunch for him as well
We then headed home to spent a bit more of the day, watching him play Rayman. A bit later we left to his school to sort some more school uniform stuff, then head home to test drive the Miata once more. Pix wanted to take the car somewhere in the city but I asked him if he was sure cuz I didn’t trust it.. So we then just drove around until we got home, the sprinkler-like sound was much louder and turns out it wasn’t air related like we thought, it was with the tensors for the timing belt. Guess one got damaged cuz of the problem we had last time.. Ugh
Anyways, we then drove to Pixie’s dad’s workplace to pick up his car since he wanted us to check an issue with his tire. I left my car there and we took his car.. Well, Pixie had to park it to figure out how to operate the door locks, then the mirrors and adjusting the seats. Absolutely everything was motorized and kinda confusing. He eventually figured it out and I got inside. We then had to take the car to a tire repair shop
This car was pretty fancy and doing a better job at cooling us with the AC than my car, it was an extremely hot day! Back to the car, it was so quiet inside too!! I liked it
At the tire repair shop, we got told that the issue was actually the rim and he’d have to take it somewhere else. We got the spare tire installed and took the car back. We switched the cars again and drove home in mine
We only stopped real quick at home to get my GameCube and drive to that small and cool game store nearby. We checked if the GameCube worked aaaand it didn’t rotate the discs.. The controller ports worked fine as well as displaying and power, but it couldn’t read games if they didn’t spin! Anyways, Pixie traded a GameCube game I never touched anyway for GTA 4 for his Xbox One. We then drove home once again
At home we just spent a few hours watching videos and installing the game. I had messaged my bro earlier and he told me he’d have another way to go to work without needing my car.. Sadly, sometime later that plan didn’t work and he did need my car now. This upset Pixie and I quickly had to go home to leave my car
I quickly made it home and settled down on my PC again. My bro later came back from working with his broken car, he showed me the issue and it’s.. VERY bad, they need to replace the whole engine block.. AGAIN! They had to do it once while I was the driver of that old car, now they have to do it again.. So unreliable
The rest of the night was uneventful, just me being bored chatting and stuff. I was tired, I wrote the doodle but also needed to doodle, so I drew it and zzz

'Forgive me,' says the tensor, cool as ice. 'I've overridden your locks. I'm afraid you'll have to stay put until we reach out destination. But I thought you'd be more comfortable out here than in the brig. I have snacks, if you're hungry.' Snacks! What does he think this is, a blazing pleasure cruise? 'You don't understand!' I shout. 'I have to save my friend! She's a prisoner on Alexandrine.' 'In these skies, everyone's trying to save someone.' He opens a cabinet and pulls out waters. Crossing to us, he offers us each a bottle. Pol refuses, but I take mine, drink it, then spit on the floor. Even in the worst of circumstances I still have a petty streak as wide as the Belt. The tensor sighs and holds out a hand. The water rises, weightless, and he holds out the bottle. This time, only a few spidery black lines creep from his eyes. When he releases the liquid, it falls gracefully back inside. 'You could have just said "no, thank you."'

Functional Anatomy
The anterior iliac crest region of the hip and the more prominent trochanter of the femur have an insignificant measure of overlying greasy tissue or muscle and are more vulnerable to wound and damage than progressively ensured regions of the body.
The iliac crest has various muscle beginnings and inclusions, including the sartorius, the tensor belt lata, the interior and outer obliques, and a part of the rectus femoris muscle.
History
Get a definite history, including the instrument of damage and the patient's depiction of his or her indications. A hip pointer is generally intense damage, and the patient can normally review an encouraging occasion, albeit some may introduce 24-48 hours after the underlying damage.
Hip pointer wounds are typically brought about by an immediate hit to the iliac crest or more prominent trochanter in physical games, for example, football or hockey.
A hip pointer may likewise be brought about by a fall onto the hip in games, for example, soccer or skiing.
Ordinarily, the patient presents with the sudden beginning of hip agony in the iliac crest or more noteworthy trochanteric region in the wake of supporting injury.
The agony is restricted and might be exacerbated with exercises, for example, running, hopping, curving, or bowing.
The agony can restrain scope of movement (ROM) at the hip joint as well as revolution of the storage compartment if the stomach musculature is included.
Physical
Physical examination in an individual with a presumed hip pointer ought to incorporate stomach examination to prohibit injury to intra-stomach organs. Examination should comprise of visual review, palpation, inactive and dynamic ROM evaluation, tangible testing, and stride investigation.
Wound or swelling might be clear upon visual review. The competitor typically reports expanded agony with palpation of the influenced iliac crest or more prominent trochanter. Restricted ROM of the hip auxiliary to torment may likewise happen.
Engine quality of the hip flexor and extensors ought to be flawless. Quality of the hip abductors and outside rotators might be restricted by torment if the wound incorporates the sartorius muscle as well as the iliotibial tract.
Sensation ought to be flawless to light touch, in spite of the fact that this segment of the examination might be restricted if the patient has serious agony.
Beginning walk examination may likewise be restricted auxiliary to torment, however it gives a pattern from which to assess recuperation.
Tumblr media
Causes
See the list below:
The primary cause of hip pointers is a direct blow or fall onto the iliac crest or greater trochanter.
Risk factors include participation in contact sports and wearing limited or no padding or protective equipment in the region.
Consult your essential consideration doctor for more genuine injuries that don't react to fundamental emergency treatment. As an additional asset, the staff at Sports Medicine Doctor NYC is accessible to analyze and treat sports-related injuries for youth or juvenile athletes. IT Band Problem and How to Avoid
IT Band Problem and How to Avoid
ITB (Iliotibial Band) is a lateral thickening of connective tissues that run through the entire length of the thigh.
This band starts from just above the belt line, where the gluteus maximus and tensor fasciae latae muscles attach to it and extends downwards while narrowing up to the upper part of the lower leg bone, with some of its fibrous tissues passing over the front of the knee cap.

Top Five Best UTV Tires | Everything You Need to Know
Tumblr media
Although we all get caught up in the coolest power, suspension, and cosmetic modifications, we often forget about forget about the most important modification of all: tires. Fancy suspension and big power don’t matter if your UTV doesn’t have any grip. Not only will tires make you faster in the turns and a straight, but it can also significantly improve braking performance, greatly improving safety.
There are a ton of great tires to choose from when it comes to UTVs. This is both a good and bad thing, as you have lots of options to choose from, but choosing the right tire can be overwhelming. For this reason, we put together this short list to help your search for the perfect UTV tire.
UTV Tire #5: Tensor Regulator A/T
Most factory UTV tires are very thin, puncture easily, use a small size, and don’t supply that much grip. This is where companies like Tensor Tire come into play. Unlike many UTV tires, the Tensor Regulator A/T uses a tread design based off of truck tires rather than ATV tires, with some minor changes. The big benefit of the Regulator A/T is the super durable compound reinforced with an 8-ply construction and a steel belted bead. The result is a tough carcass that can withstand everything you can throw at it. With a variable pitch tread pattern and DOT approval for those UTVs lucky enough to have plates, the Regulator rides very smooth and isn’t noisy like other more aggressive tread patterns.
DOT Approved
8-Ply Construction
Available in 28” to 32” sizes
Shop Tensor Regulator A/T Here
UTV Tire #4: Fuel Off-Road Gripper
You may know Fuel Off-Road for their Jeep, truck, and UTV wheels, but they also offer some very popular tires. For UTVs, they offer their Gripper UTV tire. This tire was tested on Vegas to Reno and designed to be super tough. While the Regulator A/T tire above has an 8-ply construction, the Gripper UTV tire uses an extra tough 10-ply construction. On top of that, this tire uses Fuel’s lightest casing yet at under 41 lbs. It also features aggressive side lugs for added puncture resistance.
DOT Approved
10-Ply Construction
Available in 28” to 32” sizes
Shop Fuel Off-Road Gripper Here
UTV Tire #3: GMZ Race Products Ivan Stewart
In the world of off-road racing, “Ivan Stewart” is one of the most iconic names around. GMZ offers a few different UTV tires, but for this tire, they teamed up with Ivan Stewart for development. Together, they developed one of the best handling UTV tires on the market. The tread extends far down the shoulder to help with cornering traction. Not only does this tire look amazing, but the amount of grip it provides is sure to impress even the most experience UTV drivers.
DOT Approved
8-Ply Construction
Available in 30” to 32” sizes
Shop GMZ Ivan Stewart Tires Here
UTV Tire #2: SuperATV RT Warrior
Of all the tire listed so far, these RT Warrior tires from SuperATV are the only ones available in a 34” size. Granted, most 34” tires are HUGE for a UTV, and not many people run them, at least you have the options. On top of the larger size option, the RT Warrior is the only one available in a super soft “Sticky” compound. This is perfect for the UTV owners who love low-speed rock crawling and need the stickiest tire possible. Even the non-sticky compound is a superb tire for rock-crawling purposes.
DOT Approved
8-Ply Construction
Available in 30” to 34” sizes
Shop SuperATV RT Warrior Here
UTV Tire #1: Sandcraft Destroyer Tire Package
You can’t make a list of UTV tires without including some paddle tires. You can use your standard tires if you air down enough, but they still won’t compare to a proper paddle setup. Available in 31” and 32” packages to suit a wide range of UTVs. Designed to be super lightweight and super strong, Sandcraft destroyer tires are perfect for any dune trip.
Not DOT Approved
Available in 31” and 32” sizes
Shop Sandcraft Destroyer Tires Here
The Benefits of a Larger Tires
You may be wondering why even bother changing tire size if you upgrade your tires. What’s the point of a bigger tire? Well, a bigger tire effectively makes holes, rocking, and obstacles smaller. This means you’ll be able to go faster and your suspension won’t have to work way harder. A larger tire also means a larger contact patch, resulting in more grip while cornering, accelerating, and braking. To put it simply, a larger tire will help you go more places, help you go faster, and help you grip more. Unfortunately, larger tires increase rotational mass and change gearing, which may require you to change your clutch setup. Read more about UTV Clutching here.

Michelle Casbon at Scale By the Bay: “I love being steeped in so much Scala expertise”
Tumblr media
A Senior Engineer on the Google Cloud Platform Developer Relations team, Michelle Casbon focuses on open source contributions and community engagement for machine learning and big data tools. Before that, she built and shipped machine learning products on distributed platforms using both AWS and Google Cloud Platform within her Senior Engineer and Director of Data Science roles at several San Francisco-based startups.
In advance of “Data Engineering and AI” panel discussion at Scale By the Bay on November 16 where Michelle is speaking alongside Richard Socher (Salesforce), Lukas Biewald (Weights and Biases), Ruchir Puri (IBM), Pete Skomoroch (Workday) and Peter Bailis (Sisu and Stanford CS), we spoke to Michelle about her developer journey, the hardest challenges of scale and the upcoming panel discussion at Scale By the Bay.
How did your data work lead you through the startups of Silicon Valley to Google? It turns out, building Machine Learning (ML) applications is hard. At Idibon, I spent my time building them on AWS. At Qordoba, I tried out Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and discovered Kubernetes Engine, which helped tremendously. As soon as I heard about Kubeflow, I was on board. It was exactly what I needed instead of building ML apps from scratch. I love that I can contribute to the project with a decade of data engineering under my belt because engineers who build platforms don't always have that perspective and really value it.
What did you learn about ML/NLP adoption along the way? There is a ton of interest, both from the business and engineering sides, but it's still very challenging to pull off. Tooling in the space has been very low-level, which isn't conducive to training new developers or maintaining production code over time. It's something that needs to change, similarly to the way higher-level tools were developed for traditional software development. As tooling in the space improves, we will see much more adoption of ML.
How does Google Cloud Platform help you and what are the hardest challenges of scale? When I was building ML products from scratch, I really appreciated the bootstrapping that I got in GCP. So many best practices are baked into the Kubernetes framework, which meant that I didn't have to spend time defining them. I was blown away at the declarative yaml approach to deploying predictive models and Kubernetes Engine meant that I didn't have to maintain a cluster of distributed compute nodes. These paradigms are foundational to Kubeflow, which makes a lot of sense to me. The idea is that the framework does the hard work of distributing training and packaging disparate components together, which keeps application code simple.
Another important aspect is access to hardware accelerators like Tensor Processing Units (TPUs). GCP provides the hardware & Kubeflow makes it easier to use that hardware from within application code. And because Kubeflow supports any hardware configuration that runs Kubernetes, you can run the same application within GCP, locally, or on another cloud (sans TPUs). These are the hardest challenges of scale: keeping application code simple, maintaining it over time, and retaining flexibility in terms of physical environment.
You’ve been at our Data events and now this is the Engineering one. How do you see these two cultures, Data Science (ML/AI) and Software Engineering work together at GCP? What’s your advice to a data scientist who needs web-scale performance and software engineering chops to solve their problems? Tools and APIs on GCP are designed to deliver best practices by default. There are fundamental building blocks like computing, storage, and event streaming, but GCP really shines when it comes to ML tooling. These are the shortcuts that make it possible to build ML products quickly and maintain them more easily over time. My advice is to use a managed service or high-level API whenever possible and automate everything else. A good CI/CD setup means that data scientists can focus on the code and everything after a PR merge is deployed automatically. Projects like Kubeflow that support this type of workflow are where I see the two sides coming together, especially since you can combine managed services and from-scratch models in any combination.
What’s the most exciting for you about the AI panel? I love the combination of panelists. Lukas & Pete (Lukas Biewald and Pete Skomoroch - note from the editor) are two people that I've looked up to for years and always enjoy spending time with. I've learned many things from them over the years.
What do you like about By the Bay community and what are you looking forward to the most? I love being steeped in so much Scala expertise. It's inspiring! I'm most looking forward to hearing the types of challenges people have in building ML pipelines. I can't wait to see how these problems have evolved and what some of the newer ones are.
Also, it's always great to hear Martin Odersky in real-time at 1x speed!
Do not miss Michelle Casbon at “Data Engineering and AI” panel discussion at Scale By the Bay conference at Twitter HQ in San Francisco on November 16. Last few tickets are available, so book yours now.
