one thing about being in too much pain to uphold social niceties (period and it's a bad one) is that i did spend all day at work not only doubled over and moving at a pace the ninety year old library ladies were lapping but i was even worse than usual at tasks like Looking At People Who Are Chewing Gum and "not edging away bugeyed when a coworker stands close next to me" and of course the perennial favorite "keeping track of more than three words spoken to me in a row and responding to that" and we'll let me merely say. it is just me and that murderbot. nobody else in this whole damn library understands
#(we catalogued a bunch of martha wells today and it was very apropos)#i just think. when im wounded and dripping secret fluids you can't expect me to keep up with this other shit is all#bookbot doesnt have any combat skills but it does have a faster search than the opac computer#so as soon as it remembers how sentences and conveyance of the searched information works you'll be in the business#augggggh and it was so busy too!!!111 and the guy who monologues on the phone called again and he always starts his calls with#'HEY darlin'!' fuck off robert call me darlin one more time. motherfucker#this is linux robert. we really dislike getting calls from linux robert. robert i'm blind is a different cooler guy#robert im blind is a blind guy named robert who introduces himself in those exact words. and he calls every solstice#in order to find out the exact time the solstice or equinox begins . i always wonder what rituals hes performing#linux robert merely wants to bother our IT department about the minutea of ubuntumint or whatever .no matter how many times we tell him NO#he cannot accept that our IT staff is busy keeping the whole county's library system running and cannot be his personal home computer staff#and that it is highly unlikely one of them would let him burn his custom linux mods onto the public library computers#(i THINK that's what he's trying to do. he is not great at explaining in what one might call. layman's terms. despite being The Explainer)#linux robert is deeply on the spectrum but guess what dude! so am i and so am your little brother who i went to grade school with#at least 25% of our patron base is on the spectrum the library is a very autistic place to be#autism doesnt exclude a guy from being a real annoying pain in the ass who calls you darlin condescendingly#his brother is a wonderful guy. i used to hang out with him at lunch bc his tss had adopted me as a sort of pseudoclient#she clocked my twelve year old weird and said oh ive got room for one more. so jon and i were like two chicks under the wing#and my good sixth grade buddy jon would never call me unsolicited endearments. because first of all he's literally nice#and second of all our favorite thing to do together was not talk#WHEW. anyway. long ass day . my coworker and i have resolved one of these days to clearly tell robert not to do that please#because otherwise he wont know . but it's also possible someone's already told him this and he just doesnt care

imagine if there were different tiers of linux distros you had to level up to get to
"i just got my first intermediate linux distro! :D" "thats sweet, ive been grinding to get to a proffessional distro but so far i'm stuck on advanced" "heh... your distros are nothing compared to my GODLY DISTRO!"
#started thinking about the term “begginner linux distro” in the shower#and this is what came out of it#linux#linuxposting#im sorry for posting about linux again buki

Its a weird feeling. I'm so close to having a custom pc, and all the research and bookmarking and learning about the fundamentals of this task being done on my ancient, life support necessitating laptop. My two core laptop. My laptop that can't no more hold a charge, nor a wifi connection. The laptop I spent hours at the library deciding on, that I told everyone to give me best buy gift cards for Xmas and birthdays for to buy it. I wasted so much time playing minecraft on this thing. And in her twilight moments she slowly but surely loads the pages I need to see to replace her.
Heres to another ten years wasting time instead of sleeping but this time on a rig with an entire terabyte of memory let's go
#Pire.txt#Her name will be Ambrosia and I'm finalizing parts purchases tonight#On my way to building a moderately expensive lego set#Also 'twilight moments' more like half a year but you know what I mean#Also also 12 year old me is having a blast#You know that John Mullaney quote about pizza in a limo being the height of luxury for a kid?#A whole Terabyte!!#And more!!!#I got a 1T ssd (fast but expensive memory) and originally going to do a 2T disk drive because that's good for long term storage#But the 2T drive had lots of bad reviews on a different site with older reviews so I found a 4T drive#Priced less than double so it's actually cheaper per gb and more and better reviews#5 Terabytes total. That's not a real thing they can't do that#I'm never going to need to worry about disk space ever again#Maybe the disk will shut up every once and awhile#And she's going to be running Linux so there's going to be far less bloat and system to take up space on the fast drive#Idk if I'm even ever going to need that second drive but a girl's gotta be prepared#Future proofing ig

if you have any coding knowledge i would recommend backing your blogs up with this instead of the official one. the official one isn't very good in terms of formatting and shit, honestly
#ive used it before and its a bit of a hassle but im gonna try again#linux is at least kind to me in terms of usually coming with most of the prerequisites#mine

chromebooks ruined the technological literacy of an entire generation.
I will never forgive.
I will never forget.
and frankly, trying to replace the chrome books with VR is even Worse
#and I LOVE vr#but nothing beats a good old PC/MAC/LINUX in terms of teaching foundational tech literacy#chromebooks have less funtionality than fucking smartphones#no wonder thats the only thing gen alpha and late gen z want to use!!#the magic of desktops is entirely lost to so many of them in favor of IPAD and CONSOLE

PROGRAMMERS OF ALL KINDS AND SHAPES, PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS
A code that doesn't have comments, even if it's well written, is not always very good code. When you want to optimize your code, you're might have to write ugly stuff sometimes ! Look at what data oriented design can produce for example. When optimization introduces unreadability, even if everything else is amazingly written, you need to add comments.
Anyway, use your cli tools on me plz, im cool, im pretty, look at me, blip bloop, blip bloop ❤️💾

i think the thing thats hard about "easy" linux distributions isnt that they force you into an ecosystem its that they obfuscate learning about the ecosystem so much that you dont actually get the tools to understand how it works or even like, what parts are in it. like when you arent actually at liberty to choose between 2 bluetooth drivers because your os will break if you use the one they didnt test, and learning more about them will at best just make you frustrated that youre stuck on the bad one, then you start to get the feeling that the maintainers made the right choice and everything actually is a limitless dark sea of despair and you should just stay safe in here. but like, that isnt true, choosing between 2 drivers for the same thing just isnt a difficult or high stakes ordeal. even if its a complex topic you only have to learn about it once but like 90% of the time you can look it up and some guy on reddit will have said "if you need x do y, if you dont know what that is do z".
i think id be able to use mint easier now understanding so much more about how "a computer" is split into different components but like, thats not the intended use case for linux mint. its for people who dont want to know that and consider it more bearable to just stew when things break until its miraculously fixed by someone else at some point. i feel like when people say "beginners ONLY start here" they need to be more specific that when they say beginners that's actually what they mean, and not that its easy to learn, because i still had so much trouble figuring out cinnamon and what the fuck a "panel" was, and its not like it helps you with that any more than any other thing. the external resources for getting started with mint arent world class either, if that was the deciding factor people should still just be recommending ubuntu.
i also still feel like its a hill worth dying on that having a separate home partition would actually be huge for noobs especially on point release distros and its so fucked that its some power user thing. oh oops i fucked up my entire system doing an in place upgrade i can just reinstall it. the entire thing. and not lose my data. instead its gotta be a whole thing
#but then also like 'ive got shit to do i want someone else to be in charge of my system' is obviously a real long term use case. and calling#it a beginner thing just makes people confused. the linux 4 noobs and linux subreddits are like full of posts just like 'anyone else STILL#use mint even as a professional computer toucher???' and its like yea...... its a full os its not training wheels. thats not weird
