So I get redacting the text for Harding and her "mysterious" stone powers... but what is it about Neve we aren't allowed to know that would spoil the plot?! o.O
Tumblr media
Also I keep wondering why they dressed her so very fancy when she is supposed to represent working class Tevinter... and this white lady version of her concept art looks way posher still...
What's going on there?
When she first appeared in The Missing I was so bewildered by her gilded outfit after reading Tevinter Nights and now I learn they literally wanted to make her look like an Orlesian noble? What is that about?
And are those two questions related at all?

Fashion of the Winter Palace: Dorian
When Josephine announces that they are to chose their own clothes for the ball at the Winter Palace Dorian retreats to his library corner to think.
For all his glib jokes, Dorian is intimately aware of how mages from the Imperium are perceived, it doesn’t matter that he’s not actually a magister. For the nobles of Halamshiral that is all they will ever see him as.
He could wear one of the uniforms that Josephine commissioned, but hiding who he is has never been one of Dorians’ strong suits. He will not hide, not here and not in Tevinter.
He will never ‘play the part’
And so Dorian gets to work, he will treat this as any other soirée in the imperium, he will dazzle and intimidate, enthral and horrify. Orlesian fashion is oddly simpler than Tevene fashion. Yes more styles come and go every year, but it’s not like the secret language of Tevene fashion where every stitch speaks.
When Dorian is announced at the Winter Palace, a momentary hush falls over the ballroom and one Orlesian noble faints, Dorian looks majestic, he looks regal, he looks like a magister of old.
The outfit he wears in many layered and complex, with whisper thin inky black silk as an under-robe , the ends peaking out making it appear as if he’s walking on smoke. The over robes are rich and heavy with golden embroidery, glimmering in the light of the Winter palace.
Tumblr media
If one looks closely many of the looping swirls of brocade hide glyphs of protection and resistance to poison.
The black velvet surcoat is a thing of beauty, wide shouldered and high collared adding to Dorian’s daunting appearance.
Tumblr media
The sleeves of the ensemble are eye catching and mesmerizing, the eyes of a dozen peacock feathers wink at the gathered masses.
Tumblr media
Dorian leaves no part of himself unadorned, his eyes are lined with shimmering gold and curved around his ear is a golden serpent cuff.
As he walks through the halls of Halamshiral scandalized whispers bouncing off the marble walls, Dorian cannot help the small satisfied smile that curves along his lips.

Still working through an art limbo and now apparently a migraine but I was wondering if y’all know of any compendium or even just an image gallery of Thedosian fashion? I’m getting into scary outfit design zone and while I have one or two images from concept art, I’m kinda blanking on finding different clothing guides. Especially the Free Marches. Pretty much nothing I found on that part specifically.

I made a little clothing guide for some Dragon Age regions
Some may not be exactly the same as the references that appear in the game or in the concepts, but I wanted to give a little of my vision to the guide.
Ferelden
Ferelden is close to the Frostback Mountains and Orlais and as Leliana and Zevran once said, Ferelden is cold, so I thought it would be a cool idea to put on thick clothes with a lot of fur so the Fereldans can protect themselves from the cold.
Tumblr media
Tevinter
Dragon Age 4 is approaching and it's already evident that we're going to be in the Tevinter Imperium, so I discovered that a lot of Tevinter clothing was inspired by clothing from the Byzantine Empire
Tumblr media
Orlais
We've already seen in the game and in the concept art that Orlais is all about being flamboyant and flashy and what's more flamboyant and flashy than mid-1500s fashion?
Tumblr media
Antiva
Home to the two loves of my life, Zevran and Josephine, Antiva fashion is something I really love… The puffy arms, the breast-enhancing corsets, the leather vests, idk, I just like Antiva
Tumblr media
Nevarra
I don't exactly have much to say about nevarra, but I did some research and found some concepts that I thought were interesting, I also saw in some places that said that the kingdom was inspired by the traditional culture of Spain
So I'll leave two references here
One for the traditional clothes and one for what I imagine might look like Nevarra dress
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Frostback Basin
In Inquisition we can see that the clothes they wear are quite furry and well protected from the cold, so I think it would be a good idea to inspire some of their clothing in Inuit clothing
Tumblr media
The Dalish (1/2/3/4/5)
Well, for the Dalish I had MANY ideas, among them think about adding traditional clothes from some tribes, native Brazilian/American, African, Hawaiian, Inca, Aztec and Mayan
Remembering that I made a great mix of traditional clothes from several tribes and not just one, and that I also have 0 intention of disrespecting any of them, if I have put something wrong or disrespectful you can be free to alert me
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Orzammar
I knew little about Turkey, but when I went to research I ended up enchanted with some of the traditional clothes when I went to research about it and I thought that this style would go well with Orzammar
Tumblr media
Par Vollen
For Par Vollen, I had a bit of trouble finding it, but I think clothing a little bit closer to the ancient Egyptian style would be something interesting. The light fabrics, the golden jewels adorning the body, idk, I like that idea
Tumblr media
Rivain
I was doing some research again and found that part of Rivain's look was inspired by traditional clothing from Islamic Spain and Southeast Asia , so I looked around a bit for something to put here and add one more kingdom to the list
Tumblr media
I hope you people enjoyed! Soon I will add more realms as soon as I finish my research

Collages reflecting my ideas about fashion in Thedas (part 1).
The following references were used:
Ferelden: Fashion of Tudor England
Orlais: French and Venetian fashion
Tevinter: Byzantine and Ottoman costumes
Antiva: Italian Renaissance
Nevarra: Art Nouveau Fashion

I had the honour of attending the press event for Dragon Age: The Veilguard last week and I had an absolute BLAST. Getting to play the game one final time before launch and seeing how far it's come was incredibly emotional and wonderful. It was very special to meet so many cool people from different places who were equally as passionate about the franchise. It was also a fun opportunity to modify part of my Dorian cosplay to wear as modern Tevinter fashion, in the spirit of the new game locations! - The content embargo for sharing game capture lifts September 19th and I am super excited to share sneak peeks. Fear not, our game capture was restricted to very specific things (none of us want players to be spoiled) and so I won't be posting narrative spoilers or anything that isn't being shared already by official sources.

I'm so obsessed with this shopkeep's outfit! I really hope we can wear it, even if it's probably a really common random outfit half the Shadow Dragon NPCs wear.
It looks QUITE similar to this mod by Echveria which is based on this concept art for Isabela that they deprived us of. I adore that mod to bits and pieces and I wish I could make Isabela wear it in all the games!
Tumblr media
Seems like Bioware thought it was a shame they didn't put it in a game as well lol.
Anyway, this has really solidified me wanting to play a Shadow Dragon Rook for my first run! (Although I do think it would have fit Rivaini culture better? Wasn't Tevinter supposed to be goth once upon a time?)
(P.S.: You bet your ass I wanna port this thing to earlier games as soon as Frosty allows!)

"Thorne" is a cool surname for Grey Warden Rook.
There's a dagger in DA:O called Thorn of the Dead Gods, which is Grey Warden-themed.
Item description: "No simple blades, these daggers date back to the time of the First Blight. They were crafted in the Tevinter Imperium as weapons to fight against the darkspawn horde, and fell in battle with the mages that first wielded them."
It's associated with Codex Entry: Thorn of the Dead Gods -
"In the moment that it struck, the blade of the Grey Warden who killed Toth, Archdemon of Fire, shattered into three pieces. After the Battle of Hunter Fell, the Wardens carried their fallen brother to Weisshaupt for a hero's burial, but the broken pieces of his sword were left behind. For years, the shards lay forgotten on the battlefield. Steel became etched with the corrupted blood of the dead god. They were eventually discovered by a Nevarran woman, searching among the bones for a sign of her lost son. She sold them to a blacksmith, not knowing what they truly were, for ten bits. The smith, however, knew that he had purchased more than scrap metal, and fashioned the shards into three identical daggers: the Thorns of the Dead Gods. They left his hands and were scattered to the far corners of Thedas. But everywhere they went, the Thorns left misery and loss in their wake. The woman who unearthed them died soon after of plague. The smith fell into his forge. Each person who has held one of the Thorns, even briefly, has died an untimely death."

I've now seen a few posts saying Neve is just nicer Vivienne and they're the same and I...guys Neve has ENTIRELY different motivations and reasons for doing her things and a different personality. Neve is a disillusioned detective working for a group who is trying to end slavery in Tevinter, Viv was a court mage constructing her own freedoms within a system that didn't want her but that she actively liked and wanted to uphold. Viv was shaped by southern Thedas and it's systematic abuse of mages, Neve was raised where mages are the elite class and deemed 'better' than others because of their magic. Presumably they have different religious views coming from countries that have completely schismed chantries. They have very different jobs (court mage/pope vs. detective). Yes they're both high fashion beautiful black woman and yes they're both really interesting characters but they're not the same anymore than like....Carver and Blackwall who both have angry openings and are warriors are the same. Or anymore than Aveline and Cassandra who are both sword and shield no nonsense warriors who secretly have a romantic side are the same. Or Solas and Morrigan. Etc. etc. Just. Think about why you are reducing them to the same person after spending less than 10 mins with Neve maybe?
