Midnights – Taylor Swift

Side A: The Dark Side of The Moon

1. New Moons: the first track, starting with a slow rhythm and then building up. theme – being afraid of the new changes in life, like going to a new school and the fear that keeps you awake at night. here, new moons, refer to youngsters facing life changes. this will be the other pov of nothing new. (‘the kind of radiance you only have at 17��� but it'll show the struggle of being 17 here)

2. Saudade: it means nostalgic or melancholic longing. this can be about wishing to go back to a certain time of life when you believed you were the happiest or had someone precious but they aren't around anymore. it can be about sleepless nights thinking about that moment of life.

3. The Tale Of October: this can be a narrative style of song, following the story of a memorable october – how that month symbolises something meaningful to the narrator. it can also include myths associated with this month (it's known as the month of gods in japanese folklore).

4. Cinderella's Shoe: a long-story short kind of song – but it focuses mainly on the negative/darker side of it. inspired by the saying “if cinderella's shoe fit her, why did it fall?” and the enchantment that wears off by midnight.

5. Insomnia: for all the night owls. for those nights where sleep is a distant place, an escape from reality, but it's hard to reach it. it'll include wild thoughts, anxiety and/or imaginations we may conjure while trying to sleep. this will be the saddest song, of course.

6. Werewolves: a song about transformation (every full moon, so contrasting the first track). halloween vibes that will first show werewolves (humans) as monsters but slowly show the misunderstood side of them. it will have reputation vibes and be the song connecting side a with side b.

Side B: Midnight Paradise

7. Meet Me At Midnight: the first single of the album. it will be a beautiful, romantic song but with hints of fear of losing it, just like delicate or peace. it'll also follow a timeline, like the first verse will be about 10 pm, the second verse will be about 11 pm and in the bridge, at midnight, the two lovers will finally meet.

8. Aquila: it's a midnight constellation, in the shape of an eagle. it'll be about the random bursts of creativity or ideas we may get when we are about to sleep. it can symbolise independence (like owning your own music) or about the growth that occurs in solitude, which no one appreciates us for.

9. Stargazing: another love song, but this one goes like a fairytale. like love story or invisible string. it can be about staying up late at night with someone special, spending your midnights with them after a long day.

10. Temporary Deaths: thinking about lost friendships or relationships and finally understanding how to let them go. it's a slow song about goodbyes, how they tear us apart, how we wish to avoid them, but they still happen. “temporary death” refers to how a part of us dies when someone we cherished disappears from our life.

11. Cerulean: it's about love that keeps you awake at night. it can either take a happy or a sad turn, depending on the listener, so the writing will just super creative.

12. Lanterns: inspired by the emily dickinson quote “i'm out with lanterns looking for myself”. taylor also mentioned ‘lanterns’ in the announcement post. it's about self-discovery or self-reflection. finding your mistakes, forgiving yourself and being free from the guilt, and working on being a better person. it's about accepting our true nature and being at peace with it.

13. The Witching Hour: technically, the witching hour is 3 a.m. so this song takes place after midnight. a story about witches (inspired by a poetry series i once wrote), how the public humiliates them but they stay up all night for a good cause instead. a song with i did something bad and mad woman vibes but it will have less angry tone, and more like “i turned the stones you threw at me into jewels” vibes.

so, this is something i've always wanted to do but never got the chance to do it. i'm not so sure about how much it makes sense or if it matches the theme of the album enough but this album allowed my imaginations to run wild and i knew i had to do something about it! let me know if you liked my ideas! and if possible, i'll try to write some of the songs or just turn them into poems. until next time, keep burning the midnight oil! *winks*

My #1 post of 2022

it’s time to go || good-byes

i have always been terrified of goodbyes. in my head, they were the worst thing that could ever happen to me. i don't know what was worse — saying goodbyes or receiving them. naturally, i have been bad at handling those situations. at first, they were invisible. like childhood best friends who did not find me "cool" enough to hang out with me or my favourite teachers who disappeared into the crowds and never appeared after i left my pre-school. those goodbyes were not defined, so many words were left unsaid, so many emotions forever bottled in my heart that i still write about in poems. but then came the goodbyes that were said. maybe that should have been the point where i should have realised why. it was because i had grown to deny whenever a friendship started fading away. i was clinging and holding on to the person even though they've had enough of me and only wished to leave. even after they left, for good, all i did was weep and weep. in poems, in songs, in everything that i did, a part of me wept forever, waiting for them to come back and tell me they'd never leave me again. i think a part of me still does... but it's not like before. and i'm sure i'm not alone, that there are so many people who are still learning how to accept goodbyes and not let it kill them.

earlier, i used to try to find new ways to show people just how useful and lovely i can be. it was selfish, or perhaps, it was truly out of love, but in the end, i wanted them to stay. i did not want any more goodbyes. so, i went out of my way to love them, shower them with as much as i had to offer, showing them the most authentic and lovable version of me. i wanted to give them reasons to stay. but, did it stop certain people from leaving? of course not. no matter how hard you try, you cannot make someone love you. you can beg and cry all you want but if they want, they will surely leave you. they do not owe you anything. and they do not have to hold on to you forever, even if you are the best for them. it's just how life works. certain ships are meant to stay as long as the storm is raging and once the ocean is calm, they will sail off to other islands. certain butterflies love to visit you while you are full of flowers and sunlight, but they cannot stay when the rain comes pouring down. some will only find you in autumn leaves, others in chocolate ice-cream cones, and some in your neatly handwritten study notes. you can try to show them that they are wrong or that you deserve better, and maybe you are right, but they will leave when the time comes. however, there's one thing you can control — your reaction to their departure.

grieving is not a bad thing. in fact, i feel like it's so important to grieve freely and unapologetically. but once that's done, we have to truly let them go. they can leave physically but only we can remove them from our minds. only we, ourselves, can wipe the ghosts that we allowed to haunt our bones because that's just what we knew at that moment of vulnerability. but now, it's different. time makes you stronger and smarter. what feels like the death of you may not threaten you by the next decade. goodbyes felt like the end of my world but now, i know they are there. they are always waiting in the dark corners of life. but now, if a dear friend of mine says their time has come, i hope i will be able to see them off without breaking down and losing all my hopes for a good life. i hope i won't rely on their ghosts to bring me a sense of peace and can find other ways to regain the happiness i need in my life.

goodbyes, whether said or not, are still something i hope to see less often in life. but the fact that i am not constantly worried about "who is going to stay?" and "who will be the next person to leave?", i think i can survive them. i have survived them, even the worst ones, and i know it gets harder as life goes on, but it also gets easier to accept them. they will come and go but what stays with us are the lessons and memories and those are the things i want to remember. not the nights my hand feels a little too empty or the way they burn down my house as they leave. as long as i do not give people the ability to kill me when they leave, i will be all right. because i deserve to survive these storms. i deserve a life that is not defined by goodbyes. and only i can create that life. it's my choice. it has always been my choice. and i am finally accepting goodbyes for what they are — endings — heartbreaking but necessary endings; promises of a better sunrise. i hope i will remember this the next time i watch a relationship break and i'll know when it's time to go.

I absolutely love this question, thanks so much for asking it! DD's dance performances are always exciting, and something I eagerly anticipate - probably more than anything else from him!!

#1 Like the Sunshine

There can be no other winner. Truly the most memorable performance he's ever given. So special on every level. Even though I've been unable to watch it since January (long story that I talk about in my post* about the song, which is still in drafts), I think about it a lot. Exceptional, beautiful, powerful.

*Sorry to bring up a mystery post, it WILL be published eventually!

#2 SDOC3 Captain Dance & Rehearsal

I loved this practice version because we got to see DD dancing out of costume, and he looks so fucking amazing (he really can rock a tight-cuffed pant, windbreaker and ball cap like no other). This clip holds a special place in my heart. I love watching his practices. DD in his own clothing, just being DD, being a great dancer.

Both the practice and the live performances show DD's strong skill, professionalism, and talent. (DD's starts at 12:40).

After the captains' opening performances the dancers all voted with their towels to choose the best one. DD ended up getting the fewest votes of all the captains.

If you rewatch the performances you can see that other performances weren't nearly as intricate, coordinated or frankly 'cool' as DD's, but we got to see these performances from a very different vantage than the dancers, so I'll cut them some slack for being so blind. There were even some comments after the fact, that they couldn't see the complexity of it from where they were sitting.

It's crazy to me to think that he ended up in the bottom from this, and he even made a statement about hoping to improve. 🥺

This dance was so good, he performed it so well. It really shows that perspective is everything.

#3 VOTF

It feels like this performance wasn't meant for our eyes (😅), but I love it anyway. For all the same reasons everyone else does. It's just so smouldering and sexy, and he looks godly here.

Special Mention: YH Practice Clip

This practice dance has to be mentioned because it's been a favorite of mine for years. Not just because he looks so stellar in it, but also because more than a lot of other videos out there, this one really shows DD's exceptional gift for dance.

If you watch the presence/power of his performance vs the two dancers behind him, you can really see how much he stands out - how much star power he has just based on his overall demeanour. He has such beautiful lines, precision, musicality and quality of movement. He hits every beat and every step effortlessly, while giving so much swagger and fluidity. His transitions are unbelievable - so smooth and so strong. It's mesmerizing to watch.

It's crazy to think it's only 1 MINUTE of dance. It feels like an entire epic story of movement.

The same is also true with the Swalla video that is popular among fans. Same thing. You can really see DD's talent in these clips. I fervently wish he'd release more of these, although I understand it's not likely to happen again. It would be a feast for me if he did.

1. How many works do you have on ao3? 16, as of today! I tend to compile my ficlets (<2k) and drabbles into one place.

2. What's your total ao3 word count? 95483. So close to 100k! Soon.

3. What fandoms do you write for? Silmarillion, LoTR, and one other fandom that I shall not name here (it's visible on my ao3 though lol).

4. What are your top five fics by kudos? I'll list the Tolkien ones:

Promise of Happiness : A kidnap fam fic! They tend to be popular in our fandom, don't they?

Words They Said : Collection of my dialogue-centric ficlets.

To Learn Thy Song : My beloved Aragorn/Lothiriel post-war WIP!

Where do we go? : The first fic I wrote for this fandom. It's a Feanorion bonding short piece.

They Named it Love : Unrequited Russingon with aroace Mae!

5. Do you respond to comments? Usually yes. I try to. But I've missed some due to irl constraints... they haunt me though.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Oh this is a difficult question. Maybe Kinslayer in Truth? Yeah, Maedhros dies in that one 😶

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Oh easily, Promise of Happiness! It's there in the name. And Loveless too! It's a good warm one with father-son bonding and aroace Fingon.

8. Do you get hate on fics? Nope. The only kind of silent readers writers are happy about are the outraged ones.

9. Do you write smut? Ah I really cannot imagine myself ever writing that. Smut and I are acquaintances and no more. I mean, as a reader I search it up once in a blue moon, but on a regular day, you cannot tempt me into even reading it, much less writing it. It's a skip for me.

10. Do you write crossovers? Again nope. I'm not a fan of crossovers either. I've read some brilliant ones, but I don't see the appeal myself... One canon universe is already too big for me to handle.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? I don't write that good for that to happen lmao. (But I once had my poetry stolen. It was a bot copying the site I posted on. I was so mad I got DMCA to hide the links from showing up in searches at least.)

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes! In the other fandom I write for, someone translated my fic into Vietnamese. Very happy for that.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? No... my writing habits don't allow a collaboration, it's too sporadic. But I beta read once or twice! It was nice.

14. What's your all time favourite ship? Me/my metaphorical pen. It's an on and off again, tragic ship with misunderstandings and periods of abandonment. It feels like unrequited love at times, but I hope it's not and that they can live hea 🥺. Jokes aside, as a reader, sure, there are many across various fandoms, but as a writer, I do not.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? This is a sinister question 😭 wdym I doubt I'll finish. I have every hope to finish it someday! The fic is To Learn Thy Song btw. My most ambitious project to date.

16. What are your writing strengths? Oh, one-liners easily. They're different from dialogues to me as they can also be set into narration. I get these singular lines in my mind and I centre whole fics around them. They're strengths as they drive my writing instead of hampering it. That said, I also believe characters and their inter-personal dynamics are a pillar I build my fics on.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Besides writing itself 😅? Plot. I don't think I've ever written a fic with solid plot. I'm also quite slow with setting up and switching scenes. Mostly, descriptions and fillers are difficult for me.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogues in another language in a fic. I would rather use italics and bolded letters to convey different languages. Most readers, myself included, do not bother reading all those foreign letters, they just look for the translation instead at the bottom. One or two words, though, can enhance the reading experience instead of detracting from it.

19. First fandom you wrote for? Supernatural! Funnily enough, that fic is my most popular one. Though given the size of that fandom, it's not as surprising, but given the quality of my writing then? Very very shocking honestly!

20. Favourite fic you've written? Right now, Loveless. 💔

1. vlad from gaya sa pelikula: *screeches like a pterodactyl* MA BABY!!!!! thanks to u and ur amazing galaxy brain, vlad is definitely my #1 trans headcanon of all times, he’s just too trans to not be trans!!!! it baffles me how that’s not canon like PLEASE LOOK AT HIM! TRANS!

2. mork from my tee: after i read this post, trans!mork has been living on my mind rent free. it just Makes Sense and god if him being trans was canon, maybe my tee would have another tolerable aspect that isn’t frankdrake ❤️

3. wave from the gifted: i have no logical explanation for this one. i just Feel it. in my bones. he’s trans!

top 5 the gifted (graduation) characters:

1. MY GIRL NAMTAAN!!!!!! i love namtaan SO MUCH. i love how she’s too much of a sherlock for her own good, but she’s so determined and strong, even with her condition and basically the world telling her to step down and just accept it, she won’t let anything or anyone stay between her and her heart’s desire. and she’s so loving and caring :( she cares about pang and ohm sososooo much :( and when she was the only one willing to reach out to wave and befriend him despite his hostility god!!!!! i know we all praise pang for being the responsible for wave’s growth, but if it wasn’t for namtaan and her kind heart that was ready to welcome wave, maybe he would’ve taken a lot longer

2. chanon................. listen. i know we had him for one episode in s1 and he NEEDS to come back in tgg... i love him okay. I DO. with all my heart. chanon is so selfless and his heart was filled with so much love for pom that he willingly gave up his future just so he could see the love of his life achieve his dreams, because pom’s happiness is more important to him than his own :( and now?? that we know he remembers everything??? and has been secretly spying on the gifted???? AND IS STILL FIGHTING FOR A BETTER, FAIRER WORLD???? how can i not love this emo man 😭😭😭😭

3. wave :( literally ‘neoneun na, naneun neo’ u kno :(( we are The Same and i see sososooooooooooo much of myself in wave. finding solace in loneliness? trust issues?? hostility towards help??? feeling like i need to prove myself all the time???? yeah...... yh. he’s just... too real. and after seeing how much he’s grown since s1 :( my heart exploded, im so proud of him :( to see him having fun, enjoying his friends, but most importanly, enjoying himself. the bit where he’s singing another bird thongchai bop at the top of his lungs?? all by himself?? just to feel good? THAT’S MY SON!!!!!!!!!! 

4. pang!!! u know he had to be here like what can i do i love my son and i just want him to GET A BREAK. he tries so hard to be a good person and do what’s best for everyone that sometimes i forget he’s just a teen and teens make mistakes, but he seems to forget that too :(( and asks so so so much of himself :( but he can’t do everything and he’s learning that too during all of this. i think what i most like about pang is that he’s just as flawed as the rest of them, instead of having him be the perfect hero that saves the day, and thanks to that we see him try, fail, stand up again, and learn to do better next time

5. mon and grace because i am gay. and ik im cheating but i LOVE my girls and they deserve BETTER. both of them. and more screentime PLEASE

I adore pastels soo much, and I think mc would wear that top as well !! I definitely imagined an academia kind of vibe because it's a Hogwarts au, but we can break the rules for a bit ! Maybe they have more liberty to decorate the dorms, so she'll make it as cozy as possible ! Plus, she can probably wear whatever she wants on the weekends :')
