42. braiding the other’s hair

The air in Gridania was thick, a storm looming upon the darkening horizon as clouds began to roll in. Crickets chirped in the distance, the evening calls scattered across the great forest of the Shroud.

Nested deep within the trees, a comfortable cabin sat. The roof no longer decrepit, patched up and with a new coat of paint. The garden, well tended, the slithering tentacles of the territorial Morbol inching across the ground as two figures sat by the great base of a tree - cut down to a table.

Roka sat upon the table, her back towards Ezekiel as he stood behind her. His brow was creased, concentration wound deep into his face. Her long, fluffed up tail had curled around his leg as she waited patiently. The pair of them recently washed, damp hair was now being spun into a delicate braid by the brute man. His calloused fingers brought stray hairs into the plait - ensuring that it was near perfect.

The Notqote hummed softly, eyes closing as she enjoyed his gentle touch, braiding her hair into a more manageable state and reveled in the calm before the storm. She dared not disturb the mans though process as strands of hair were weaved together and he finally tied it off at the bottom. He lifted it between his fingers, twirling it around before letting it fall back into place with a nod. Roka's ears flickered, her head turning to peer at Ezekiel with a soft smile. "All done?" She asked, not moving until the Viera nodded once more.

She chirped brightly, swiveling upon the table until her legs hung down to the gras below. "Alright, your turn!" She demanded, patting the side of the tree for him to sit down by.

Ezekiel breathed in slowly, turning as he crouched down, bracing one hand on the grass before his rear hit the floor with a soft omph. His back came to rest against the side of the tree stump, and Roka's legs sat either side of his shoulders as her clawed fingers started to gently brush through his hair, pulling out knots and clumps out of the Viera's often messy hair. Once satisfied, she began to braid some of his hair into a plait at the back of his head, pulling it from around his face as she worked through each one - as if she'd done it a thousand times before.

His head came to rest back, eyes drifting shut as her soft fingers and pointed claws occasionally brushed his head in a soothing manner. She hummed softly, a song he didn't know, as her long tail flopped off the table and splayed over his lap like a blanket. His fingers idly brushed through her tail as she worked, and his breathing grew steady.

Soon enough, he found himself in a light slumber, trusting her to do a good job with his hair, as the relaxing evening seeped into his bones and provided a moment of respite, even if it would be brief.

OK SO THIS ONE'S LIKE IMPORTANT TO US TOO BSJSHSJXXJDKDJ we grew up watching Disney, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and... A couple kiiiinda obscure-ish channels but not rly cuz they're linked to Nick & CN. Our fave channel was Boomerang, we had that shit on literallyyyyy almost 24/7. Only time we'd change it was to watch Nick GAS [Rip 😔] this song played during one of their bumpers for the old cartoon Jabberjaw. What's funny is Jabberjaw never fuckin aired when they'd play that bumper!! Like. It was just not apart of the lineup ever???? There'd be references to it in their other bumpers [along w other older Hanna-Barbera cartoons that also Never Aired back then, or did once in a blue moon] and we always found that weird, but. Anyways! Legit still one of our fave childhood songs it's so fun JFJDDJFJF

23: A song that you think everybody should listen to

Hmm... We have plenty of songs that remind us of our source, and canon, and our relationship/s to Harry, but this is one that comes to mind first. I'd say people should listen to it because it's also kinda important to us [there is a theme here I see lol] but also generally because it's good, personal associations aside!

That does remind me actually. We need to make Harry a playlist ASAP. -Empathy

im loving the fact that tommy is an established character with established relationships with the 118, just like karen, just like athena, just like maddie, because that was a huge thing that made it a part of why i think it was so hard to like bucks previous love interests.

like, yes. abby and taylor tried to gel with them, ali kinda knew OF them, but natalia was completely seperate and lucy wasnt even really a love interest. neither of the main 2 (abby and taylor) actually had any link to anyone other than buck. taylor was the closest (but she fucked that up badly lmao).

im so hyped to see whether we get more of tommy and the 118, because he has history with all of them, except eddie (who he's now good friends with), and buck (who he is now dating).

if you look at all the other 'partners', they are all a part of the 118 family, and pretty linked together: athena is besties with hen and married to bobby, karen lived across from and was good friends with chimney and is now married to hen, maddie is bucks brother and is married to chimney, etc.

i feel like bucks other love interests were only ever linked to him, and he always worried about losing them, because he didnt think he was good enough.

but this time with tommy the difference is (tommy actually cares about buck) that hes known by his family and hes safe and hes confident and caring and patient, plus the rest of the 118 all think hes a good guy, and also tommy saved bathena and chimney and hes friends with eddie, and christopher likes him, etc.

everybody that matters to buck, except maddie, likes and knows tommy.

(and who is he going to introduce tommy to next episode? maddie.)

maybe buck doesnt have to worry so much about him leaving, like abby did, or worry how to introduce tommy to his family and not have him run for the hills from the complex parts of his life, like natalia or ali did

because tommys already halfway in it yknow?
