Pro heroes love being guests on Hizashi's show because his interview questions are always like "so in the year X you appeared in this super obscure ad for a pizza store, and I just want to ask: why the ugly uniform" and "before you became a hero you'd go up to people asking if they wanted their cars washed to make ends meet, so have you ever saved someone whose car you did a bad job on?"

And to them this is always delightful because you never know what history he's gonna dig up about you, it's like the pro hero version of Hot Ones yet somehow more chaotic, and Hizashi loves doing it because it gives him an excuse to do a bunch of research into various topics his guests are interested in and there's nothing more joyful than getting to see someone's smile as they launch into a long rant about what it was like to do customer service

This week are the final exams at Austrian high schools and even though it's already been a couple years since I've been through that myself, I still follow this one meme page on Instagram where the students always send in memes afterwards relating to the exams, like where they make fun of weird exam questions or let out their frustrations about bad task descriptions and such. I don't know, it's somehow kind of entertaining to try figure out what the given topics were only based on the memes😂

I’m sorry I took so long to answer this. Whenever I get an ask that requires me to think I always feel like my brain exits my skull and slinks down my spine to hide somewhere behind my spleen. I can’t think. Did I write something? I suppose so. How did I feel beyond frustration? No clue ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ What were we talking about?

It took me a while to encourage my brain to come back so I could answer this a bit more seriously. I even put everything in a google document so I could work on answering without losing my progress to tumblr being a buggy bastard

What was your favorite piece to write? Why? There are a few that come to mind. I wrote a sci-fi/post-apocalypse drabble for BnHA’s Bakugou, which is one of the quickest pieces I’ve ever written. 1.2K in about 2 hours after lying awake all night thinking about the story, then insta-post. No time to fret, just shove it out the door. Good luck out there! 👋 Despite how short it is I felt like I got a lot of lore into it

Another one is ‘Heat Haze’ (KNY, Rengoku Kyoujurou x f!reader). It’s the longest fic I’ve written to date (16K) and a lot of it just flowed. The most trouble I had was tying a few scenes together, which is always one of the last things I work on. I remember frequently writing 2-2.5K in a day, which is a lot for me

And then there’s ‘The Luck-Bringing Cat.’ Simultaneously one of the best and worst experiences. Best because I was so caught up in the Apothecary Diaries AU I wanted to write, I kept thinking about it, new scenes, exact expressions of the characters. But the dialogue nearly killed the whole fic. I’ve come to realize that I am not good at writing dialogue for Jing Yuan. He’s too eloquent, I’m so much more comfortable with low-brow dialogue. I listened to Jing Yuan’s voice lines over and over. I re-read the Apothecary Diaries light novels so many times in an attempt to mimic some of Jinshi’s dialogue, since he has that same eloquence. I was so close to crying and bashing my head into my desk several times when all I had left to write was the dialogue. And yet I want to write more for this AU. ‘Cause I still love it so much. Thanks again to @a11eya for beta-reading it for me. Without you I might actually have given up

Was there a specific string of words or description you particularly enjoyed or are proud of? I wrote a fic for BnHA’s Yagi Toshinori x f!reader a few years back, and the description of Reader’s Quirk is what comes to mind

(Brief explanation to people who aren’t familiar with the BnHA universe: a Quirk is basically a superpower which most people of this universe are born with. It can be as powerful or as mundane and effectively useless as you can imagine)

The train exited the tunnel and Toshinori’s eyes flicked back to the view he had been staring at; a soft, golden glow on the horizon, a glow that only he could see. He had always been drawn to it, like a moth to a flame. It was comforting, it was home. It was you. Your Quirk, Burning Heart, made you emit a golden light only visible to the people who you loved. Toshinori had used it as a beacon leading him home ever since the first time he saw it. He didn’t know what he would do if that light ever went out - if he wasn’t worthy of your love anymore.

Fun fact, Burning Heart is based around a Danish song I love a lot, called ‘I’ll Leave the Lights On’ (Jeg Vil La’ Lyset Brænde)

Is there any specific part of your writing you really hoped would pop out to people? I think it’s always the unspoken words, the ones characters convey through actions because they’re too scared or worried or too drunk on love to say them out loud in the moment. The ones that leave the reader-insert wondering ‘am I reading too much into this?’ The ones that make you want to shake them and shout ‘NO YOU’RE NOT, YOU IDIOT! HE LIKES YOU!! 😫’

Was there some dialogue you particularly enjoyed writing? I’m not entirely sure it counts as dialogue since it’s from a letter. It’s also from a KNY fic I’m still working on, so don’t go looking for it!

I always love when I can get just a lil’ bit poetic. I know it’s a contrast to what I said about writing dialogue for Jing Yuan, but I can handle a sentence here and there no prob! Much beyond that, though, and my brain fries 🤯

Is there any part of your process you enjoy and would love to talk about? It’s probably the initial planning stage. It can be like solving a puzzle for me, to fit scenes together, spending hours mulling everything over, and then thinking of a new scene that would fit perfectly! Or maybe the new scene doesn’t fit at all and I have to figure out how to make it fit. Throw thought-spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks

It’s even better if I can share the process with friends so we can scream about it together. Sometimes I feel like I ought to share it more than I do, allow people to enjoy it with me. I’m too shy though 😬

I know just said "Starter", but I decided to make full teams for the Yugioh 5ds characters!

Now before I show them, I will admit doing Pokemon teams for Yugioh characters is kinda tricky. My thoughts were do I go for pokemon that represent their cards? Do I pick pokemon based off personality? Questions like that were in my head (Someone's probably going to read this and think, "Deru, you didn't need to think that hard about this" too bad, I can't be normal about Pokemon). So I ended up deciding depending on the character, the reasons will probably change. Another thing to note is that I'm usually not a fan of giving characters legendary pokemon, but I'm making can exception here, just given how most of these characters have such legendary cards.

Yusei is up first with Koraidon being the biggest focal point. Both as his Pokemon and as his Duel Runner (Yes, you can ride this Pokemon). I have this whole scenario where Yusei and Koraidon lost hard to Jack's team and Koraidon lost a lot of confidence; while it will still let Yusei ride him, it won't battle, so Yusei has to help build Kotaidon's confidence back. Rotom and Revavroom are both associated with machines: Rotom can possess various machines, while Revavroom is an engine. Luxray is an aesthetic choice, Yusei looks like a one. Mimikyu represents "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow" since it's ability allows it to tank one hit before taking damage. Mawile represents Yusei's philosophy that any card (or in this case, any Pokemon) is useful; unfortunately, Mawile looks amazing, it's not a strong Pokemon by any means (it had it's time in the spotlight when Mega Evolution was big, but later generations that did not allow it, Mawile unfortunately suffered).

Now onto Jack "I hate fun" Atlas. Miraidon acts as Koraidon's opposite and the one that Yusei's Koraidon lost to in the scenario I mentioned above. Like Koraidon, Miraidon acts as Jack's strongest pokemon but also his duel runner. The rest are pretty straightforward, I was looking for Pokemon that are powerhouses, which I picked a lot of Pseudo-legendaries (Metagross, Salamance and Kommo-o). Kingdra and Kingambit are no slouches either and they get the bonuses of having "King" in their names.

Crow's was pretty easy since I wanted to focus on Flying-types to represent Blackwings. Moltres doesn't become part of Crow's team until a bit later, so he's mostly seen with his Honchkrow. Corviknight, Talonflame and Bombirdier are also very "Blackwing" themed, so they had to be here. Braviary is known for being a very protective and noble, especially towards their friends. It's the one most protective towards the kids Crow takes care of.

Aki was also pretty easy since I wanted to focus on Grass-types. Ogerpon is a Pokemon which relies a lot on her various masks and represent her emotions. The Wellspring Mask represents Ogerpon's sadness and Aki identifies with her. I had to give Aki one of the Apple dragons and settled on Hydrapple (Fun fact: There's actually seven serpents in that apple). Dragalge and Cacturne are Pokemon from here time as the Black Rose Witch, but she couldn't bring herself to release them.

Luka was kinda tricky because we don't see a lot of her deck, so the focus here was cuter pokemon and some not being fully evolved, showing that she still has room to grow. The biggest focus here is Xerneas, the legendary pokemon known for giving everlasting life.

Lua is in the same boat as Crow as in he didn't get his legendary until way later compared to everyone else. The rest of the team is focused on Steel-types and Electric-types, to show Lua penchant for machine cards, and like Luka, his team is fully evolved to show that he's still a child and has room to grow. And because Lua admires Yusei and Jack so much, he was ecstatic to see find out he shared having a Rotom and a Metang he hopes to evolve into a Metagross.

Now onto my guy, Kiryu! Now his team was under the influence of the Dark Signers, which caused some unfortunate circumstances with his team (Lore dump: Primeape basically evolves into Annihilape because it got so angry, it died, but it was too angry to die and comes back as Annihilape. Hisuian Zoroark is basically the malice and spite of dead Unovan Zoroark given form after being unable to survive strife from humans and other Pokemon who've shunned it. Spiritomb is said to be a 108 souls trapped in a stone to prevent it from causing mischief). Absol has also been shunned, believing it brings disasters (in reality, it senses upcoming disasters and attempts to warn people of it). Even after the influence from the Dark Signers gets lifted, Kiryu's team is still loyal to him.

Now that the 5ds group is done, let's talk about Seto Kaiba and Joey Wheeler/Katsuya Jonouchi!

Kaiba's is pretty much in the same boat as Jack, being a trainer who uses complete powerhouses, with a bit more emphasis on Dragons. White Kyurem is of course, the stand-in for his beloved Blue-Eyes White Dragon (Honestly, I was tempted to give Kaiba all three different version of Kyurem, because that still makes sense).

Jonouchi's team starts off pretty lackluster, especially since he had a Magikarp and a Growlithe (Unfortunately, the start of Kaiba's dog comments). But Jonouchi never gave up on any of his Pokemon and his Growlithe evolved into a powerful Arcanine and his Magikarp evolved mid-battle into a powerful Gyarados. Jonouchi won a Shiny Charmander from Rex Raptor after he found out he was mistreating it, not knowing it was a Shiny, so cue the shock of seeing this little Charmander evolve into a Charmeleon and into a black Charizard (Like Kaiba's Kyurem, Shiny Charizard is a stand-in for Red-Eyes Black Dragon, along with showing Joey's reliance on luck-based strategies). His Fighting-Types are all strong warriors, ready to fight and protect!

After giving this some thought and then checking your tier list for inspiration I think you'll be amused to find out that I was considering Thoma prior to seeing it.

Thoma is really, really sweet, and I think he'd be able to figure out a really nice balance between getting you out of your comfort zone but not throwing you into the deepest, coldest, darkest pits of the ocean when he's supporting you in whatever goal you've set for yourself.

I feel like he'd also be able to properly appreciate your kindness without taking it for granted by working to reciprocate it. He also has enough mischief in him to keep things fun.

Basically I can count on him to take care of you. Not to say you can't take care of yourself: just that he will lighten the burdens of life not add to them.

Cyno was another option I considered when I thought about it. He's a really thoughtful and caring guy. The fact he started telling jokes just to be less intimidating and more approachable shows just how sensitive he is.

I like the idea of him being very attentive. One thing I can also imagine is him never belittling anyone's interests - unless someone's interest is objectively bad (think illegal things that are harmful to other people). They may not be for him, but he'll appreciate that you like them.

I remember seeing somewhere that Cyno was potentially neurodivergent, and I remember seeing somewhere else that neurodivergent people did this thing of...it had something to do with penguins, where they collect things that made them think of you. I can see him doing that.

Again another guy I can trust to treat you well.

I don't want to brag or sound too optimistic about it, but after three weeks of training at a private college, I think my lessons with this one particular immigrant student (who has serious motivational problems lemme tell ya) are finally starting to get through and there's been improvement.

Only slight improvement so far but I have spotted some, so maybe not all hope is lost yet.

Remains to be seen I guess.
