Momota K. x Harukawa M. oneshot !!
It's a university AU, where they are both juniors and share a small, two floor flat together. They've been dating for 11 and a half months. They go to "Hope's Peak University", which has the same Ultimate Talent system as Hope's Peak Highschool. Ok, I'll shut up now-
Maki's eyes opened groggily, and she yawned as she woke up. The sun was beaming in, creating streaks of light on the bed through the blinds. She rolled over onto her side, stretching as she did so. The brunette had expected to see her partner of almost one year—Kaito Momota—laying there, but all there was an empty space where he would sleep.
Maki raised an eyebrow, curious as to where the Ultimate Astronaut had gone. She looked over her shoulder at the digital clock on her bedside table, rolling her eyes and cursing under her breath when she saw how late she had slept in. Usually, she was the first one awake. She'd—most of the time—wake up to her alarm, but Kaito must've turned it off today.
After rolling out of bed and tying her hair back into two low pigtails, she found a sweatshirt that belonged to Kaito and put it on as well. She got cold very easily, and her band-tee and old biking shorts weren't fighting against the harsh February weather outside. The sweatshirt was much too big for her, but she didn't mind. The sent of Kaito's worn off cologne still lingered on the article of clothing, giving her a sense of peace.
"Kaito...?" She walked down the staircase to the first floor of the apartment, where the kitchen, dining room, living area, and second bathroom were. She heard sizzling, and a delicious smell travelled to the dining room, filling her nostrils. Was that.. bacon?
"Morning, baby." Kaito smiled, seeing Maki poke her head into the kitchen—where the scent of bacon became stronger.
"What are you—" She paused to let out a small yawn, covering her mouth with her palm purely out of habit. "—doing?"
"Makin' breakfast. Why?" He smiled again, taking quick glances between the frying pans on the stove and his girlfriend.
"Since when do you cook?" Maki laughed a bit, but cut herself short.
"Aw, you know you can laugh around me, babe. Besides, your little giggle is adorable." Kaito chuckled, seeing a bright pink blush spread across Maki's cheeks and crawling its way onto the bridge of her nose.
"I-Idiot.." She sighed, leaning on the counter next to the stove. "Seriously, though. Since when do you cook?"
"I dunno, since today." He responded, shrugging a bit. His calm, laidback attitude was odd. He was usually a lot more energetic than this. Something's up.
He turned the stove off and removed everything from the pans onto two glass plates; one for him, one for Maki. There were fried eggs, bacon, toast, and even fresh fruit spread out on the plates, an even proportion of each food. Maki didn't like cooking, and Kaito had always said he wasn't good at it, so they'd usually do small, easy meals or takeout, but this was different.
The couple sat down at the table, silently eating their breakfast. About 15 minutes into the meal—when they were both close to finishing—Maki had noticed a vase on the kitchen counter with a selection of red roses and smaller, white flowers placed in it. That wasn't there yesterday...
Suddenly, Kaito cleared his throat. He pushed his empty plate aside, his napkin and silverware on top of the egg yolk-stained plate. He stood up, smiling like an idiot and laughing to himself about something. When he came back, he took a detour through the kitchen, grabbing a single rose from the vase. He quickly checked to make sure there were no thorns on the stem of the flower, being delicate with the plant and its fragile petals.
Maki reminded him so much of a rose. A beauty best appreciated from afar for most. But, for him, and her friends, it was nice to keep her close by. You just had to get past the thorns—or, in this case; her cold, hostile exterior.
Kaito came back in, sitting down across from the smaller brunette again—but this time, his hands were behind his back...?
"You're acting weirder than usual," Maki muttered, raising her eyebrows in suspicion.
Kaito—if even possible—smiled wider and laughed a bit, shaking his head in a disapproving manner. He brought the flower and a small, red card in front of him, gesturing for Maki to take the two items. Though hesitant, she did as asked and slowly took the card, skimming over the outside it before placing it on the table in front of her. She then took the rose, still baffled by the entire situation.
"What's going on? What did you do?" Maki questioned, narrowing her eyes at the flower, and then looking sharply at the astronaut.
"Jeez, you'd think I'd be able to buy my girlfriend flowers on Valentine's Day without her questioning me." He huffed jokingly, crossing his arms and leaning back into his chair as it finally clicked in Maki's head.
Oh, so that's why he was acting so strangely. It was February 14th—better known as Valentine's Day. Maki had never had celebrated the holiday before, as she'd never had reason to. But, now, she did.
It was endearing to see how excited Kaito was, though. He had to of known she'd forget about the holiday entirely, so he decided to plan something big. No one had ever cared about her enough to get her flowers or to make her breakfast. No one.. except Kaito...
"Happy Valentine's Day, love." Maki had been in such deep thought that she hadn't noticed Kaito standing up and walking to her side of the table. He slowly wrapped his arms around her waist and made her stand up, placing his head on her shoulder.
"Happy Valentine's Day—" The assassin smiled, not caring enough to hide the immense blush spread across her face. She gave him a quick kiss before finishing her sentence. "—you dork."
