The Ruggero Deodato documentary disappeared from my Tubi tv setup so I’m watching his 1983 multi genre exploitation favorite Raiders of Atlantis and having some beers. A lot of fun, this one throws rascally mercenaries into an R rated mix with a little Raiders of the Lost Ark and a lot of Mad Max

Fin blandning dikeskörningar och guldkorn åt er att grotta ned sig med denna månad. Och jag har sett årets stora comeback!
Atlantis Interceptors, the / I predatori di Atlantide (1983) [👎] Konstig italiensk actionfilm man lämnar bäst ifred.
Svarte Piraten / Blackie the Pirate / Il Corsaro Nero (1971) [🔁] Tidig Bud Spencer & Terrence Hill-film.

Raiders of Atlantis (1983)
Tumblr media
Also known as ‘Atlantis Interceptors’
OUR FIRST CAMERON MITCHELL APPEARANCE
ITS JUST FALLOUT MIAMI. Okay but no, really. It just fucken turns into Mad Max But In Florida and it’s a stupid, stupid delight. Lots of guns and explosions. Like half the chat took EVERY GODDAMN OPPORTUNITY to make a Fallout joke. Good times.
Every time someone dies their death scream echoes! Lots of silly audio choices, but the opening credits tune is a bop.
Nothing in the film makes any damn sense but it’s nonsense in the fun way, especially if you like cheap 80s action flicks.
There’s one scene we can only describe as
Tumblr media
and then its just a zelda dungeon? Things get even more incomprehensible at the end. if anyone knows exactly what happened there please phone in and explain. It really does just seem to be a bunch of things happening for the sake of happening but like. in a fun way.
a solid +8/10 rads. Hear you geiger counter ticking?
ship of the film: bill x washington as declared by @lookbluesoup

Raiders of Atlantis aka Atlantis Interceptors (1983)
Directed by Ruggero Deodato, Raiders of Atlantis is a bizarre amalgam of Mad Max post nuclear stylings along with Raiders of the Lost Ark tropes involving mercenaries rescuing scientists who have discovered a mysterious relic underwater near a crashed submarine, thus setting up a deadly confrontation with the very punky looking residents of Atlantis. All over the place, this genre hopper is a lot of mindless fun. In recognition of Ruggero Deodato recent passing, presented here is the trailer and feature film

Raiders Of Atlantis (1983) AKA Atlantis Interceptors
ADVENTURE BEYOND THE EDGE OF TIME
A team of scientists working to raise a sunken Russian nuclear submarine on an ocean platform off the coast of Miami, Florida, unearth an ancient Atlantean relic from the sea floor and bring in an expert to make some sense of it. But while attempting to raise the sub, radioactive leakage from its missles triggers the re-emergence of Atlantis, and the resulting tidal wave destroys the platform and leaves only a small group of survivors. Rescued by two Vietnamvets-turned-heavies who are out relaxing after their latest job, their boat eventually runs aground on a Carribean island nearby where, upon going ashore, it is discovered that everything has been destroyed and everybody killed. The culprits, a vicious group of well-armed raiders, and their leader, Crystal Skull, are descendants of Atlantis’ original race who set about reclaiming the world and adding the survivors to the list of victims as they struggle to stay alive and defeat the raiders and send Atlantis back to the ocean floor.

Cool Songs from Dumb Movies
Almost-sorta in time for Halloween, here’s just a few samples of my favorite songs from stupid, goofy, and/or terrible films.
Killer Klowns - The Dickies
youtube
This song has everything, circus music on electric guitar, 80s style buttrock cheese and hilariously on-the-red-rubber-nose lyrics. “If you've ever wondered why the population's going down, blame it on the plunder from the likes of the Killer Klowns... From Outer Space”
Howling - Steve Parsons & Babel
youtube
A prime example of a genre of music I like to call “If you make us a song we’ll shoot the video as part of the movie”, this song is the main reason this post isn’t just a spotify playlist. This could have just been an 80s novelty song, and I wonder if it might not have done better if it weren’t attached to the film entitled (among other things) Howling II: Stirba, Werewolf Bitch.
Black Inferno - Oliver Onions
youtube
If I told you the plot of Atlantis Interceptors I’d get accused of making it up. Nothing in this movie justifies a themesong called Black Inferno, which is why this gets on this list and Yor’s World (He’s the Man!) is the Oliver Onions honorable mention. Spoilers: neither English nor Coherence are the film or musician’s first language. It is, however, catchy.
Kiss Kicker 99 - The Fontanelles
youtube
Yes, it’s the song from you know from the MST3K of Rick Sloane’s magnum opus Hobgoblins. No, not the one Mike and the Bots sing, the one from Club Scum. Which means that movie has given us two enjoyable things (the other being Daran Norris)
Pet Cemetary - The Ramones
youtube
Pet Cemetary is probably the most legitimate film here, and the Ramones are tied for the most legit band here, but this song is so beautifully goofy, and completely unapologetic about it, it had to be included.
More in the next reblog, as I can’t post any more videos to this one.

The Movie Themes of Oliver Onions
A pop duo from Italy, Oliver Onions did some of the most startling, pleasantly cheesy, and enjoyable movie themes of all time for Italian cinema of the 1980s. If big, corny, belted out music is your bag, give them a listen. Despite their pop origins, however, they keep the spirit of the 70s alive into the 80s, in that they seemed like some mashup of up tempo disco dance grooves and Alan Parsons style synth prog.
If 1980s movies that end in a rap song over the credits that summarize the plot of the movie you just saw, are just plain too cornball for you to handle (”his name is Vigo/Master of Evil/Tried to step up to my boys/that’s not legal”), Oliver Onions may be just plain too much for you. On the other hand, if you love those, they’re perfect.
The theme that brought them to my attention was the one for Yor, the Hunter from the Future (aka “Yor’s World, He’s the Man”):
youtube
Their “Black Inferno” theme for Atlantis Interceptors (a film by the director of Cannibal Holocaust) reminds me of what would happen if the Alan Parsons Project did something in a more dance oriented mold:
youtube
For a change of pace, their Western theme for “Doc West” was uncharacteristically subdued, though they can’t keep it up and they do belt out the name of the main character:
youtube
Their “Lady of Germany (Bella Bella Tu)” theme for Lady of the Night has a ton of streetwise sensuality:
