redone prompt

I skipped prompts on April 1 because I figured it would get lost amongst The Boopening. (And also I was chasing the 1000 boop badge. lol.) 

Today’s prompt is a post instead of an Ask reply because I decided to rewrite the prompt that I answered and then deleted on March 31. I’m glad I did! I like this version much, much better than the other one.

Tony leads his new husband to the suite of rooms that has been prepared for them. He wishes he could follow, instead; the back of his neck is prickling like crazy, and the words of the negotiators who hammered out the marriage contract are echoing in his ears: The negotiations were too easy. They hardly asked for anything. They must want something else. Be wary of your new husband.

Tradition forbids armed guards on the marriage night. It will be only the third time in Tony’s life that he’s been outside the reach of his guards. It’s the perfect opportunity for Stephen Strange to murder him, if that’s what Kamar-Taj wants.

But when the suite doors close behind Strange, all he does is pull off the elaborate headdress his traditions call for and drop it and the heavy marriage robe on the floor, leaving him in a much lighter, royal blue tunic. “Thank the Vishanti,” he groans, taking a seat on one of the low settees in the suite’s receiving room. “Whoever made those so heavy when they have to be worn from dawn until dusk is a cruel man.” 

Tony is left dumbstruck for the first time he can remember. Strange looks up at him and takes on a sheepish expression. “I apologize, I know no one has explained anything to you. The Elders couldn’t decide whether or not it was permitted prior to the marriage, and ultimately they decided to err on the conservative side. But I can explain now.” He gestures to the other settee, placed perpendicular to the one he’d claimed. 

After a moment, Tony shrugs out of his own marriage robe and sits. “The negotiators did suspect something else was going on,” he says. “I take it they were right.”

“Yes, but nothing political.”

“I’m a prince and you’re The Ancient One’s prize protege,” Tony says dryly. “It’s political by definition.”

Strange snorts a little. “For you, maybe. Not for Kamar-Taj. We didn’t need any of the things we asked for in the negotiation. It just seemed like the done thing.”

Tony frowns. “Then what did you want?”

Strange looks slightly… embarrassed? “When a Sorcerer of Kamar-Taj attains the rank of Master, a spell is performed. It reveals their most ideal romantic partner. You’re mine.”

“Your most ideal romantic partner,” Tony repeats, staring. Strange nods. “This is… a love match?”

“Well, not yet,” Strange says, blushing slightly. “But unless something goes very wrong—and it can, this isn’t a guarantee—it will be.”

Tony can’t help it: he laughs so hard actual tears start leaking out of his eyes. Every time he thinks he’s going to stop, he looks up at Stephen’s bemused expression and starts laughing again. Eventually, he sucks in enough breath to gasp out, “They thought— They warned me you might— might try to kill me.”

After one gobsmacked moment, that sets Stephen laughing, too.

Not a bad way to start a marriage.

This week feels like it has been a hundred years long (not in a bad way). 

Somehow we joined together to balance the seesaw just right so Ava Gardner and Jean Seberg could both go through in the Hot Vintage Lady polls (percentages rounded). Like, I’m wearing the Ava jersey and even I encouraged people to vote Jean when necessary. Honestly, I just wanted to see if it could be done. And it COULD. 

Round three has begun. It is already horrific. This is the first round that’s really going to hurt because we spent the last one really getting down in the dirt and championing our ladies, or learning about actresses we’d never heard of before and getting attached to them. And now? We are reminded: memento mori. Everyone loses but one. 

(I personally pitched in for Sara Montiel. “BUT JUST LOOK AT--” Yeah, I did, thanks.)

April Fool’s Day: You were here for the Boopening, yes? The whole thing was that you only got badges for giving boops, not receiving them, which is a great way to not reward popularity contests, but also means that every last one of us was out here trying to figure out who to bap with a cat’s paw 1000 times. I said, listen, my notifications are already trash garbage today. I’ll take the bullet. Boop at will.

The Activity graph isn’t too clear on this point, but it looks like I had something like 65,000--hits? engagements? boops?--that day. Listen, I got the black paw badge too. We all did what we had to do in the Boopening.

I came here to boop you but while I’m at it, what’s your favourite cat breed?

BOOPENING!

Confession: I am more of a doggo human than a cat one, so I don't know that I've a particular fondness for any given breed of cat over others. The ones we had when I was younger were pound adoptees, as are my cat-nephews, and my preferences are probably more by personality than breed. If I get one (and that's probably more of a when than an if, despite me deluding myself otherwise), that will almost certainly be the decider. I like a cat that enjoys a good cuddle best, even if they sometimes want to fuck off and do their own thing; as an introvert, it's a mood I can absolutely relate to.

I've met some breed beasties, but I don't know that I know any of them well enough to say if I like them for breed characteristics, if that makes sense? Had a friend back home who had a long orange boy who was part Maine Coon and part goodness knows what feral barn cat mix, and if he was anything to go by, that was a mix I quite liked -- he was a bit dog in some respects, which was interesting. But honestly, any cat that wants to snuggle up a bit and let me pet them and might make pokey biscuits on me is solid in my book. The pain is totally worth the cuddle.

(Afraid that's a terrible answer, I'm sorry, but it's the only one I truly have.)

Real talk?

I had a genuinely shitty day today.

I barely got sleep because we discovered a leak near midnight that kept me up way past my efficient-at-work bedtime

I got pretty bad medical news so I have to have surgery soon

I have a lump on my titty I made an appointment to check out with hope it isn't anything TERRIBAD

Because of all of those I was very distracted at work and couldn't really function today

I just... I'm having a rough time. Jasper's mom is also really not well. It's been sucky here. And I left all my other forms of social media because I was sick of being angry all the time. (Some of you know this). I had a fight with my brother and we haven't talked in weeks.

Anyway.

Today on this site was the most fun I can remember having online in A VERY LONG TIME. Genuine fun. Unhinged and unadulterated fun. I drew a little thingy for the Boopening!!!! I haven't drawn anything really substantial since Paul Reubens passed away last year. I haven't had much motivation or inspiration or willpower to get off my phone.

Thank you tumblr and thank you followers. Thank you random BOOP-ers. Really made my day a lot better than it had been 🖤
