I don't know where my head was at when I ranked this the worst song on the album. Clearly, I was wrong. This song was a pleasant companion during the autumn months, and I can't wait to see what else they come out with.

3 - Chaconne - ENHYPEN

Do you know what a chaconne is? That's not a rhetorical question btw. No shade either, I'm just curious. For those who don't know, a chaconne is a rhythmical and harmonic motif over a pronounced bass-line. That's my leftover understanding from music classes taken a lifetime ago. According to google, a chaconne is also "a slow, solemn dance in 3/4 time, of Spanish or Moorish origin, similar to the passacaglia." For a non-k-pop example, I recommend Hilary's rendition of Bach's chaconne (more leftover knowledge from a lifetime ago).

Anyway, this likely isn't important context. The use of "chaconne" in the song probably has more to do with how it sounds in the song, than what it means. In any case, Enhypen earned a gold star from me with this pantydropper anthem.

2 - Criminal Love - ENHYPEN

I'm not sure how many of you were here when Heartbeat and Dream Glow were released. What I remember was shock, pure incredulity that BigHit would release songs of that quality for game OSTs. From ARMYs and k-pop stans alike, this was the sentiment. It was like a flex that BTS had such a peerless discography they could make songs like this for a side gig.

That's immediately what I was reminded of when I first heard Criminal Love, released as the OST for Enhypen's webtoon. It's moody, vampy, seduction in a song. That's what that song is. Sad too, when you hear the lyrics. Watching the live performance only drives it home.

1 - Blind - ENHYPEN

This song has given me one of the best auditory experiences I've ever had in k-pop. Which is a bit odd because yes a lot happens in the production, but the switches are so subtle you almost don't notice it.

Heeseung, Ni-ki, Jay, Sunoo, Sunghoon, Jake, and Jungwon - all outdid themselves on this song. Vocally, they sound incredible. The writing, (again) is top notch. This is one of the only songs released this year that I genuinely struggle not to loop.

5 - Yes or No - Jung Kook

This is one song I'm praying and begging that we get thousands of remixes of. HYBE, please work your magic and give us 10 remixes of Yes or No. I need it. This is the perfect pop song in that it makes you crave more. I know it's got a predictable, common almost, chord progression in VI -> V -> I -> IV, but it's perfect in that it's impossible to get sick of it. It just worms itself into your head and all you can think of is all the ways to sing all over those chords.

Jung Kook's vocal work on that song is irreproachable. He's really set himself apart with this album and I'm glad he did it.

4 - Snooze - AGUST D, ft. Ryuichi Sakamoto & Woosung

HUH?! should be here, as should Amygdala so consider this a triple entry: HUH + Snooze + Amygdala. The reason why is self-evident (I hope).

Anyway... I want to talk a bit about Snooze.

Yoongi loves using the piano. He likes the sound of it, and you can tell in songs like Snooze. He has such a profound love and respect for that musical instrument that it only makes sense a man like Ryuichi acknowledged Yoongi before he passed.

With everything that happened this year, remembering Moonbin, and knowing that Yoongi made this song for his juniors... the first time I heard this song it completely destroyed me. Anyone who hasn't paid attention to the lyrics yet should check it.

When I casually listen in to TXT, SVT, Enhypen, BoyNextDoor, and see the work they're doing, putting out easily some of the best music and performances in their generations, I hope and pray they develop a support system that genuinely values them, soon. I hope they survive this industry, and thrive in it.

3 - All Day - RM ft Tablo

Not to be that person (since he's canceled for reasons and it actually makes sense why), but when I first saw the song title All Day, I immediately remembered All Day by Kanye West - one of the sauciest and meanest songs he's ever made. I was worried, given the tone of the album to that point, that Namjoon was going to give us his take on Ye's original. Joon is more than capable of dropping a track just as mean if not more. I didn't put it past him to pay homage to the Kanye joint by taking a spin on it. But, thankfully, All Day is nothing like Kanye's song, and it's my favourite song on Indigo because it's the best.

Joon's diction on this track is *chef's kiss*. His voice.... that outro, and thank goodness, Tablo came through. He actually has a presence on the track and made it even more worth the listen.

It kills me that we don't even have a visualizer for this masterpiece.

2 - Set Me Free Pt 2 - Jimin

Thank you for giving me another chance to talk about Set Me Free Pt 2.

One reason all the anxiety and fear-mongering around Jimin seems insane to me is because Jimin dropped this song and ended k-pop in 2023. He literally has no real competition. He came in, showed out, and left. That song is the sexiest joint out of Korea this year. It's so nasty. He's absolutely disgusting on this song in how brutally he makes rubbish of everything beneath him. Like, he literally has people bowing down to him in the choreography. Bobbing their heads like Funko Pops, while he sings to be set free. I'm going on a bit of a tangent here, but I want to say something. There's a cruelty in the way Jimin speaks. Whether to someone else or to himself. It's often (somewhat) restrained, born of the way he sees the world I think, and it was especially brutal in their early days, but he's toned it down significantly since 2016. It's virtually non-existent in his speech patterns and word choice now. Jimin of the last few years communicates gently, directly, tactfully, and at worst, bluntly. A lot of that cruelty is toned down but he unleashes a whisper of it on SMF Pt 2. Just listen to what he's saying on that song. That autotune effect on his voice was for our benefit and safety. Nothing can convince me otherwise. And we haven't even yet gotten into the full symbolism of the MV and his lyricism...

The moment I heard this song I knew I would bias Jimin. He's a man who knows what he's doing.

Jimin is a one of a kind wonder. Real magic in a person. An artist. He proves it on Set Me Free Pt 2. Kudos to PDogg too - the GOAT.

When it comes to song construction, I have to give credit where credit is due and the fact is Hoseok outdid himself with this song. It is perfect, my top pick for a k-pop song in 2023. Jermaine did good on it too. But, you know... Hoseok.

The whistle melody he came up with, the beat, the vocal layering, the mixing, the MV direction - all of it is perfect. If we were giving scores based on separate components, OTS would get 10s in every category.

Honestly, Hoseok coming out at number 1 is kind of expected of him lol.

OPINIONS ON GRAVITY FALLS

OK SINCE YOU ASKED I WILL ANSWER WITHOUT GIVING SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2!! Because I know you've not seen it yet. Not sure how much of this is opinions and how much is just rambles though.

First, context, Gravity Falls is a show I have been obsessed with since it came out. I own a copy of Journal 3 and Dipper's hat and can't wait to get the Book of Bill when it comes out. So my opinions are gonna be biased!!

The greatest episode of Gravity Falls and my favourite of all time is S2Ep4: Sock Opera (watch the episode and you'll understand why, though please watch the rest of that season too haha). No further questions needed, it speaks for itself in every second of that episode.

My favourite episode from Series 1 would have to be either Legend of the Gobblewonker or Dreamscaperers. Both are fun to watch and have sweet endings and notes to it, as well as incredible comedy and great pacing. They hit so good every time.

Boyz Crazy is one of my least favourite episodes because it reminds me of primary school where everyone was feral about One Direction and I just didn't get it at all, but I still find it hilarious.

Most of my least favourite episodes involve some kind of romance subplot - thats not to say all romance centric episodes are bad, I just find it less interesting to me when it turns out Mabel's new crush is Regular Guy (Normal Man) and not five gnomes in a hoodie. Or oh look Dipper is crushing on Wendy, what's new? Its probably because I never really related to it.

My favourite character is Grunkle Stan. He's funny and a weird old man, as Mabel eloquently puts it. He's gruff, sweaty, wrinkled, and a bit of an asshole. And he cares so much for his family. He tries and thats what counts. Also his absolute lack of shame about cash - like in Double Dipper where he launches himself at that dollar bill - and conning and scamming tourists out of their money is so hilarious to me. Grunkle Stan is dear to my heart and will always be my favourite character.

Pacifica is another one of my favourite characters! She gets a fair bit more character development in the second series, and I still find myself laughing at every interaction the Pines family has with her when I rewatch the show - she's hilarious in every sense of the word. Her growth as a person is really nice to watch.

If I met Tambry irl I think I would inevitably punch her, I cannot lie, she frustrates me too much

Bill Cipher my beloved <3 (you'll see why when he shows up again in season 2)

I have rewatched this show many times since it came out and I firmly believe that so many of the jokes still hold up to this day. It shaped my sense of humour greatly. And the best bit about being older is that now I get all the jokes I didn't get as a kid!!!

My favourite running joke is Guy Who Married A Woodpecker!! He just shows up every now and again and we see a snapshot of his failing marriage and I love him.

The pool guy is objectively and unironically one of the funniest people alive. As is Quentin Trembley, 8½th President of the United States, who also absolutely shaped my personality and humour.

Certain episodes in the later half of Series 2 tone wise feel like they should have been at the start of the series or in Series 1, and the series does suffer for it in my opinion. Of course its a kids show, you don't want it to get too dark, but I feel like some parts of that series just felt inconsistent to the rest of it. Of course the rest of that series is absolutely stellar in my opinion, most of my favourite episodes are in that series, so its swings and roundabouts I suppose.

The Wendy crush is nothing short of frustrating to me every time I see it. Had to reiterate this, and I get that people don't get over crushes quickly, but especially in Series 2 it frustrates me. tbh I probably had a crush on Wendy too as a kid I cannot lie.

The ending is so sweet to me and makes me want to cry or actually cry every time, not just for nostalgia, but because it hits me hard and emotional in so many different ways. No spoilers yet!

And ending it with a really strong opinion here, you should watch Series 2 (a shameless suggestion, I don't regret it)

☒ SOLO DEBUT

TIME FRAME: Mid 2020

REACTION: Many Carats were upset about her personal space being hacks and the leaking of what was going to be the first soloist to debut in SEVENTEEN. They praised the song and her vocals on it as it was going to be her debut to show her vocal talent.

A few sasaengs, back in mid 2020, had hacked into her iphone account that she uses to save and keep track of her music and photos and other things in her daily life. After looking through everything they had came across a snippet of a few of her solo songs and ideas for her debut solo mini album and had leaked it around 4:14 AM KST on JUNE 14TH. She was very upset and actually cried to some of the members behind the scenes when it happened as her, WOOZI, VERNON, and HOSHI worked extremely hard on those songs for two years prior. Although the song was leaked, many Carats were interested in her solo album!

☒ DATING DISASTER

TIME FRAME: Sometimes in 2016, 2018 - 2019, and 2022

REACTION: 50/50, some fans were happy their idols were in a relationship but others were extremely upset that SOONAH and their possible biases were in a relationship. The rumors from all years are sometimes still brought up.

SOONAH is often victim to sasaengs leaking information about her dating history and relationships with other idols. Majority of the time the leaks are harmless with little to no context or facts to back up the claim that she is dating certain idols. The first dating rumor was around mid 2016 with her and iKON’s BOBBY. Both companies denied any leak and rumor stating the two had never been introduced before so them being together was untrue. In the timeframe of 2018 - 2019, she was wrapped in the dating rumors with three other idols; MONSTA X’s I.M., PENTAGON’s YUTO, ONF’s WYATT respectively. All companies responded say the pairing were not intimately close and were just close friends who were working on a project together. The most recent leak/dating rumor was with THE BOYZ’ JACOB. Neither companies nor the two of them spoke on the matter and some fans still ask to this day.

☒ HOTEL FREAK OUT

TIME FRAME: Late 2022

REACTION: Many carats were worried for her and the members she was rooming with. No one was hurt but some items were stolen. Charges or other legal actions were not filed against them.

While she was staying in a hotel room, for the FACE THE SUN TOUR, that she shared with fellow members WONWOO, VERNON, and DINO. She had just gotten off her hiatus and was able to join the boys in their BE THE SUN TOUR. While the four of them were out eating with other members, a group of sasaengs that were waiting outside the hotel for them to leave were able to get up to their room and break in. A few items of her were taken along with a few items of the other members.

☒ RUDE PERSONALITY

TIME FRAME: 2014 - 2016

REACTION: Trainees were proved to be sasaengs + accusations were debunked. Some antis still bring this rumor up to the day.

It was leaked once that she was a former JYP trainee from 2014 - 2016. A few former trainees had come out and said that she was extremely rude and had a arrogant personality while the four of them were trainees. She didn’t speak on the topic for a while until it really got to her where she had to take a mental health hiatus.

☒ GIRL FIGHT

TIME FRAME: Late 2020 - Early 2021

REACTION: The public thought that the reasonings behind her actions were justified for the most part. She had publicly owned up to her actions when the information was leaked and says she does not regret what she had done. She does sometimes joke that anyone can get it as she’s never lost any of the fights.

The information of her being in fights was one that came out of the blue. It was kept under wraps for a few years after it happened. It is a well known fact that SOONAH and JINSUNG from SOUR CANDY are extremely close as they were classmates for a while. And while little is known about the two’s relationship plenty of people knew that her and YEWON disliked each other to an extreme level. No reasoning for the two’s dislike for each other is known. They had fought behind closed doors a few times before it was leaked in 2021 of their fights.

On Dave and Fletch's sexuality - debunking common "sources"

Dave Gahan never said he "understand[s] why people might think we're gay", and that he is "attracted to both men and women," in an interview with The Advocate in 2001.

Andy Fletcher never said he was "not 100 percent straight" in an interview with Out magazine in 2006.

These "quotes" and their corresponding "interviews" are fake. They were invented by an article on a fake news website, sdlgbtn.com, where all the articles are written by AI. The interviews never happened.

This isn't to make an official statement on Dave Gahan or Andy Fletcher's sexuality, which I can't speak to. It's only to say that the quotes aren't real, and therefore shouldn't be used as sources to prove either of their sexualities. Unfortunately, I've seen several fans doing just that.

Please don't feel bad if you believed the quotes were real - I did too. It's easy to be taken in by quotes that look convincing, and that you'd have no reason to doubt. But these quotes are totally false. Spread the word.

I'd heard several DM fans say that Dave and Fletch were bi or otherwise nonstraight. I did a quick search and was intrigued when I read these quotes from an article on sdlgbtn.com:

However, looking at the website they came from, I had my doubts. All the articles had an eerie, vague, made-up quality to them, and for what appeared to be a serious local gay news website, a ton of articles were frivolous stories about celebrities. Something wasn't right.

I have access to an academic database (LGBT Magazine Archive, by ProQuest) with full archival runs of both The Advocate and Out magazine, up to 2015. I searched for "Depeche Mode" twice (date range 2001 in The Advocate, date range 2006 in Out). I did not find the interviews or the quotes in question.

For Dave's supposed quote, here is the the sole article from The Advocate in 2001 that mentions Depeche Mode, along with the quote where DM comes up (it's an article on Placebo).

For Fletch's supposed quote, here is the sole article from Out in 2006 that mentions Depeche Mode, along with the quote where DM comes up (it's an interview with Madonna).

Furthermore, the official websites of both Advocate and Out have articles dating back to 2001 and 2006. I searched "Depeche Mode" in both of these date ranges and found nothing.

And finally, neither of the supposed "interviews" appear on the forum Newspaper and magazine articles in the website dmremix.pro. This forum contains hundreds of articles on Depeche Mode, including ones by gay magazines (such as this interview from Boyz magazine with Martin Gore).

Having seen this evidence, I can safely say that the quotes are fake and were invented by the sdlgbtn article.

Again, please don't feel bad if you believed the quotes. They look convincing and they're in the context of an article that does contain some true information. And because of the age of the "quotes", it's easy to assume that they really were true. I was only able to debunk them because I have access to this academic database - which is not available to most people, and even to most universities, as ProQuest's databases are notoriously expensive. It is really difficult to scout out this info.

1980s House Playlist

OK, new playlist for this week; sort of. Last week I posted a playlist of some great Chicago house jams, most of which came from the 1980s. But this week, we're doing two different things: one, we're staying laser-focused on the 1980s, and two, we're broadening the scope out so as not to specify on any city. But because Spotify's 80s house selection isn't too great, all of these songs on this playlist are also on the same playlist I posted last week. Where things differ slightly, though, is with the YouTube version of this playlist, which I'll get to shortly, after I list out all of the songs that are on this Spotify version first.

This playlist is ordered as chronologically as possible and links are provided below to songs that have been posted about previously in order to give them more context:

Now, every 1980s house song that was included in last week's YouTube playlist is on this one too, but I've also got a couple bangers here that aren't from Chicago as well. The first one comes from a New York quartet called 2 Puerto Ricans, a Blackman and a Dominican, who only ever put out two records together, but consisted of three very impactful people: the legendary David Morales and the two C's who would go on to form C+C Music Factory, David Cole and Robert Clivillés (Remember "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)"?). And the other guy was Chep Nuñez, who probably would've gone on to do some great things too, had he not tragically died in a house fire in 1990 😞.

Anyway, I included their debut record on here, 1987's "Do It Properly," a fun six-plus-minute jam that leads with these great, freewheeling bits of reverbing organ before letting Tonya Wynne come on and provide some diva vocals, ad-libs, and kooky laughing. There are a lot of different versions of this song out there, but this specific edit appears to have about 5,300 plays across its handful of YouTube uploads.

And the other non-Chicago track happens to be a spectacularly quirky cover of "Tainted Love" by the UK's Impedance, which was a solo project of a guy named Liggy Locko, who'd shortly end up in one of those early 90s alt-indie dance bands called Natural Life. But in '89 he dropped this strange and sort of minimal, electro-infused house tune that had these acid rave horns and a chirping, prickly synth melody on it, as well as lyrics that were delivered in this awkward, deadpan monotone too. Locko was also accompanied by an uncredited female vocalist on the song as well, who, based on context clues, I'm going to guess is UK singer and songwriter Tracy Ackerman. She, too, is rather emotionless throughout much of the song, but when the guitar kicks in in the second half, that's when things suddenly ratchet up, in an intensely sexual manner 😳. This one appears to have about 285.4K plays on YouTube across a bunch of different uploads, and I'm willing to bet that that pretty decently high play count comes courtesy of the ravers who remember dancing to it fondly.

Each trainee posted a comment on their fancam. I translated the comments with google translate, so I apologize for any inaccuracies or confusing phrasing (there is a lot of that). Now:

“I definitely heard ‘Mic Drop’, ‘Future Perfect’, and ‘Thanxx’, but there are 4?” Heeseungs questions. Bang Chan nods simply.

“Wait, can we know the artist of the last song?” V questions.

“No, that defeats the purpose. If you give up, just drink.” Bang Chan reminds.

The group of idols sigh as a few of them take sips of their drinks.

“Can I listen again?” Seonghwa asks, picking up his glass from the coffee table, ready to give up, but wanting another try first.

Bang Chan plays the recording of the 4 songs overlapping each other. “It’s your own fault for picking the hard version,” he smiles at the idols.

Seonghwa finally takes a sip of his drink, being the final idol to give up on the question.

“You almost had it. ‘Mic Drop’, ‘Future Perfect’, ‘Thanxx’, and ‘Super Tuna’,” Bang Chan retakes his place on the couch, after standing for the round, and Y/n takes his place.

“Okay, let's go for an easy round this time,” they say as they grab a small card from the pile of cards labeled ‘easy’.

The card reads: “Butterfly - The Boyz, Nabi - Nymph, Dancing Like Butterfly Wings - ATEEZ, Butterfly - BTS. Context clue: All songs have similar titles. Play mp ‘E.32’.”

“Oh this is so easy. Okay, there are 4 songs and the context clue is that once you know know one of the titles, you’ll be very close to the rest of them,” Y/n presses the file named ‘E.32’ on the laptop connected to the speakers and the 4 songs overlap each other, playing loudly.

“Oh okay! Dancing like butterfly wings!” Jongho says as he recognises his voice playing in one of the songs.

“I heard Nabi as well,” Soobin says.

“Okay, there’s 2, there are 2 more, and you still have 5 minutes left,” Y/n says to the idols, who ask for another listen.

The idols strain their ears as they listen to the chaotic noise coming from the speakers.

“I heard butterfly,” Jimin says, hearing the quieter vocals in the background of the noise.

“I’m going to take a guess, based off the context clues going on that there is ‘Dancing like butterfly wings’, ‘Nabi’, ‘Butterfly’ and ‘Butterfly’?” Juyeon takes a guess at the last song from the noise.

“Tell me the artists and I’ll give it to you,” Y/n laughs as he gets the songs right.

“ATEEZ, Nymph, BTS and The Boyz,” Younghoon speaks up confidently.

Y/n grabs her drink, sipping it in defeat, and the boys cheer in victory.

“What is the most random talent you have?” Taemin reads from the paper he picked from the jar. Suddenly, he pulls his hand to his face, covering one of his nostrils with his thumb, and a whistling noise is heard from him.

“You can whistle with your nose?” Jelly asks incredulously, raising her voice in disbelief.

Taemin just laughs in his spot on the couch, nodding his head.

“Don’t do that at night. It’s bad to whistle at night,” Jelly mutters to him.

He looks confused, but understands the different beliefs she has, and quickly apologises.

Jelly takes the jar from the coffee table, picking a piece of paper out of it before returning it to the table.

“What is the weirdest memory you had as a child,” she reads.

She ponders for a moment before asking “Does it count as weird if I say my brother cooked a goldfish’?”

“That depends, is there more to the story?” San asks from his seat on the carpet beside the coffee table.

Jelly lets out a light chuckle, taking a sip of her drink before beginning the story.

“So when I was younger, I lived with my mum, I was about 3 or 4 years old. We had just moved houses and there were boxes of random stuff everywhere. My mum used to have 2 goldfish as pets, and she had put the fish tank in the lounge room. My brother always woke up really early for some reason, and I’m talking 4am sort of wake up time, everyone was convinced he was a crazy child. Because of this, he wasn’t allowed out of his room in the morning time, so mum tied his door handle to mine, which was always closed when I was asleep.

So one morning, my brother woke up around his usual time, looked around his room for something to do because he was bored and he couldn’t get back to sleep, and he found a small barbecue. Like I said, we had just moved and everything was everywhere.

My brother, being him, saw the barbecue and thought in his tiny little brain, ‘I’m going to make mum breakfast in bed.’ So, He jumped out of his bedroom window, went through the front door—after having his own snack of ants from the driveway, because he was one of those children that ate ants and drank his own blood when he was bleeding—and he saw the fish tank with the 2 fat goldfish in it, swimming around. He had obviously heard that you can eat fish, so he went to the fish tank after taking the rope tie off his bedroom door, and caught both of the goldfish. After he caught them, he took them back to his room and turned on the barbecue, and both of the goldfish were still alive, just flopping around on the plate he had put them on. Once the barbecue was heated up a little bit, he put the fish—who were just flopping around in their own puddles of water on the plate—onto the barbecue and literally cooked the goldfish alive. End of story, right? Wrong. He burnt them. He burnt the fish that he cooked alive and threw them out the window before mum woke up to the smell of burning and the fire alarm going off. That was the last time I remember my mother owning goldfish,” Jelly finishes her story with a light chuckle as she drinks the rest of her drink. The other idols stare in disbelief and shock at the story, a few letting out light laughs.

“Okay, I’m bored of questions, let’s do the listening music game that they made,” Seungmin says, standing from his position on the couch.

“Wait- Let me put on my Dorito socks first,” Jelly rushes past the kitchen and back to her room. The other idols look at each other quizzically, chickling at the girl.

On her way back to the living room, Jelly spots Kyungjun in the kitchen with a tray of snacks in front of him. She makes her way towards him, looking over his shoulder, and seeing the sprinkles on the bread in front of him, she squeals, yelling for the third Australian on the team.

“There's fairy bread? Jake, look there’s fairy bread!”

She reaches over Kyungjuns arm, leaning on the bench, grabbing a perfectly cut triangle piece of bread, putting it in her mouth, holding it with her teeth as she goes to the fridge behind them, looking for another drink.

Suga comes up behind her, grabbing the soft drink from the door of the fridge, taking it to the bench. “What do you want to drink? I can probably make it for you,” he says.

“Raspberry vodka please,” she says, finishing the slice of fairy bread.

“I was thinking of more cocktails or something, but that will do,” he laughs at her.

He grabs the cordial from the pantry in the corner of the kitchen, pouring a shot of raspberry cordial into her cup and a shot of vodka, before going to the freezer and putting 3 cubes of ice into her cup and filling it with soft drink.

She thanks him, before walking back to the living room.

A sudden crashing sound makes a few of the idols jump in fear.

“Was that the neighbours taking the bins out or is it going to storm?” Jake jokes, making the idols roll their eyes, chuckling.

Fawn’s laughter pierces the air as she looks at her phone, 3 messages from Jelly sent to their band group chat.

“Is it another cat or is it actually something funny?” Sunoo asks the very tipsy girl, hoping to know what she was laughing at.

“It's funny! Look,” She shows Sunoo her phone.

‘Jelly sent a photo’, ‘Jelly: mans needs to calm down before i lose my mind’, ‘Jelly: why did my autocomplete suggest ‘virginity’ instead of mind?’.

“It’s not that funny. Can I reply though?” He asks.

Fawn shrugs and nods her head.

‘Fawn: foreshadowing, probably’

“It’s about to rain, should we play dance charades in the rain?” Wooyoung suggests.

A chorus of ‘yes’es are heard from the idols and Jin and Key put a hand over their eyes, rubbing the bridge of their noses, muttering to themselves.

Taehyun and Fawn walk back to the kitchen to grab another bottle of alcohol each. Fawn grabs a bottle of strawberry soju and a straw, shaking the bottle as she walks back to her room.

She soon returns to the living room without her phone, sipping on her bottle of soju that is already half empty as the first few drops of rain are heard on the roof.

Felix is quick to turn the outside light on as the idols make their way out the front door, onto the empty street, with their alcohol in hands.

“Don’t get sick, I won’t look after you,” Key calls to the idols as he walks through the door.

“No, I’ll have to,” Jin sighs, chucking at the idols dancing in the pouring rain without any music.

After a few minutes, everyone is drenched from head to toe, and they are finally ready to play the game.

Jin is assigned to be the cards, telling the idols the song they have to dance the choreography to for everyone else to guess, and the line of 13 idols stands across the street facing the driveway, where Jin and Yunho are standing.

Jin whispers something to Yunho and he nods, getting into position.

Yunho suddenly does the ‘Stay pose’—both of his arms straight, pointing to the ground, his legs a metre apart with his knees bent.

“Thunderous, Thunderous!” Changbin repeats excitedly, pointing at Yunho.

Yunho points back at him and walks to the end of the line of idols, the idol in front of everyone else, Q, taking Yunho’s previous place.

Jin whispers to Q the name of a song, and Q takes his position and begins the choreography from the very beginning of the song Jin chose, making Jin laugh.

Slowly, Q moves his hands around his body, interlacing them in front of him, before quickly lifting his head from facing the ground and turning to face the house. He then moves his body to face the left, snapping his fingers, and lifting his heel as he snaps.

“Sherlock!” Key and Hyunsoo shout in unison.

Q walks to the back of the line and Fawn replaces his spot on the driveway.

“Everyone looks like Pedro Pascal,” she giggles as she whispers to Jin, who stares at her in a jokingly judgemental way, but still whispers a song to her.

She nods her head as she hears the song, putting a hand to her eyebrow in salute, “Got it, Pedro.”

Taking her position in the driveway, she begins humming quietly to herself the melody of the song.

Coming to the chorus melody, she begins dancing, putting out her right hand in front of her in a zombie-like manner, moving her right leg as she moves her hand, mirroring the action a second later with the right side of her body. She then jumps, her hands reaching for her feet as they bend behind her body, making a few of the idols yell out “drunk-dazed” in recognition of the choreography. As she lands the jump, the water on the driveway takes the friction from her shoes, making her slip and fall to the ground. She begins laughing uncontrollably, laying her back onto the ground closing her eyes as to not get any rain in them.

“I guess there goes my idol image. Selling feet pics, here I come,” She giggles.

“Okay, that’s enough dance charades, inside, out of the rain, shower, get changed, we’ll play Guess Who after,” Jin says, walking towards Fawn who had now stopped laughing.

Her hair stuck to her face and her clothes stuck to her body as Jin helped her inside.

“I’m going to get another drink, okay, Pedro?” She says to Jin as they walk through the front door of the house.

“Ni-Ki, you’re up first,” Sky says to the boy, who is holding his glass of soft drink in his hand.

He puts his glass onto the coffee table, and steps to the open area between the kitchen and the living room. As the sound of the rain pellets onto the roof, Mingi flips the paper of song titles to the next one.

Ni-Ki reads the song title, and immediately begins dancing.

He turns to the kitchen, rolling his right arm in a circle twice, holding his left in an angle facing the ground. He then spins clockwise, facing the living room again, then back to face the kitchen in an anticlockwise spin.

“Hype boy!” Kevin's voice is heard loudly over the other idols shouting the same answer.

Ni-Ki takes his place on the couch again, and I.N takes his place, standing between the kitchen and the living room.

Mingi flips the page again and I.N gets into his position to begin dancing.

He holds his left hand out behind him, with his fingers spread as he pushes his left foot along the floor away from his body, repeating with his right foot and repeating the move again. He then holds his right hand in the air in front of him, in the same shape as his other hand.

“Roar!” Kevin and Eric yell at the same time, before Kevin begins singing the melody of the song.

“Okay, I think it’s bedtime for you,” RM says to Jelly after she falls onto the floor, breaking the bottle of soju that was in her hand.

“No, I’ve got to clean this up,” she slurs.

“I’ve got it, you just go to sleep, okay?” Taemin says to the girl, who is crawling on the floor picking up pieces of the green glass.

“No, no, I can clean it.”

Lee Know walks towards the girl, being careful not to have glass pierce his feet, and grabs her arm, gently pulling her up.

Seungmin brings a plastic bag from the kitchen to put the broken glass into and holds it open for Jelly.

As she puts the broken glass into the bag, RM repeats that she should go to bed.

“I don’t want to go to bed yet, let's play the whisper game,” the girl giggles as she gets back to the floor to help Taemin clean the rest of the glass.

“What is she talking about?” New asks Yeosang.

“‘Whisper game’? Do you think she means Shouting in Silence or Telephone?” Yeosang replies. New just shrugs in response.

“What whisper game? We can play one more game but you can’t drink anymore and you go straight to bed after, okay?” Taemin asks the girl, slightly scolding her for how drunk she is.

“The shouting whisper game. And okay, I’ll stop drinking and I’ll go straight to bed after I brush my teeth after the game,” she smiles as Taemin finishes cleaning up the small pieces of glass with the dustpan and brush.

A few moments later, Beomgyu is standing in front of the stairs, with Jungwon sitting in front of him and Sunwoo sitting opposite him, both with headphones on, everyone else sitting on the couch. Beomgyu holds a large book, similar to the Dance Charades book, and flips the first page, showing Sunwoo the word.

“The capital of South Korea!” Sunwoo shouts.

“The chapter of Judge Judy?” Jungwon shouts back in question.

“The capital of South Korea!” Sunwoo shouts again, quickly.

“Slowly! Slowly!” Jungwon shouts.

“The capital…”

“The Captain,” Jungwon guesses.

“Of South…”

“Of South.”

“Korea!”

“Caution.”

“The capital of South Korea!” Sunwoo shouts the full sentence.

Jungwon just stares in confusion, shaking his head slowly.

“The capital of South Korea!”

“The capital of South Korea?” Jungwon guesses.

Sunwoo nods quickly seeing Jungwon’s mouth move in the shape of the words.

“Seoul!”

Beomgyu flips the page again to show the next word.

“The CEO of Hybe!” Sunwoo yells to Jungwon, as time starts running low.

“The seal of lime?”

“The CEO… Of Hybe!”

“The CEO of Hybe? Bang Si-Hyuk!”

“Time,” San yells.

Beomgyu shows Sunwoo a motion of taking off headphones to indicate that time is up and Sunwoo removes his headphones. Jungwon, who is looking at Sunwoo, copies the movement.

Jin holds Fawn up as he helps her to her bedroom, walking her to the ensuite to brush her teeth.

She holds out a bottle to him.

“What are you doing?” He asks, confused.

“I’m going to brush my teeth. Just put it on my hands and I’ll rub it in,” she says, holding her hands in front of her.

“No, you need to brush your teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste. This is moisturiser.”

“Oh.”

Jin sighs as he grabs the toothpaste from the bench and Fawns toothbrush from the cup in the corner of the bench, putting a small amount of toothpaste on the toothbrush, before handing it to her.

She takes it from him and begins brushing her teeth.

After brushing her teeth, Jin leads her back to her bed, turning the light off in the bathroom.

“I’ll get you some painkillers in the morning, go to sleep,” he says as he walks towards the door. He puts his hand on the light switch as he walks, when Fawn’s voice makes him freeze.

“No, don’t turn off the light,” she slurs from the bed.

Jin nods lightly, leaving the light on, but closing her door on his way out.

Here’s the basis: You either send me a quote and I’ll give you characters that would fit that quote, or you give me characters and I’ll search in my quote book, quote channel, and out－of－context channels for a quite fitting that character.

I’ll make a small masterlist of all the quotes as I’m doing them.

how should i start stanning tbz? i watched them on rtk/kingdom and i liked their performances but idk where to start 🫣🫣 pls help

right in time for their latest comeback too.............you’ve come to the right person.

so in my opinion the best way to get into the boyz is by watching their variety content! usually when i start out these guides i send people clips of their rtk performances but since you've already watched them i can just skip straight to the variety content <3 if you wanted another guide for like . song recommendations from their discography i can do that too! just say the word hehe <3 personally i started liking them because of their variety content and their endless out of context vlive clips LMAO but here's my starter pack:

for a brief overview of tbz: introduction to the boyz

it actually IS brief okay it's just 40 minutes because there's 11 members to get through 😭 it's from 2021 so it's a little old but i'd say it provides a really good basis for future the boyz exploration! you can get a pretty good feel of each of the 11 members and their little quirks from this video, and it's a good mixture of it being a serious introduction (showing them being good at their job) and unserious (showing them being literally just some guys)

optional viewing: the boyz flower snack

flower snack was like their predebut show where they were officially introduced to the world! they're like super young here and while i wouldn't consider this essential media (esp since they've grown so much since then) i do think it's a good pick-me-up because of how feelgood the show is :") it's definitely cringy at parts and you can tell they still have that trainee air to them, but personality-wise i don't think a lot has changed since then till now :"") they're still a bunch of dorks and some jokes are still mentioned now and then (eric doing watermelon cpr)

the two links below are less of a beginner guide and moreso for when you want to dive deeper into each member's personalities and their inner thoughts! personally i would watch the fun variety stuff first and get a feel for each member before getting into the interviews, but you could also watch the photoshoot portions and then watch the variety stuff and then go back to the interviews for more context. any way is fine, it's up to you! - generation z

the guide from above uses the gen z clips for each member but so the photoshoot portion isn't anything new but! i think the full gen z playlist is really worth watching :3 because of the interview format it allows a glimpse of insight into each member, and honestly it was one of my very first tbz media where i started to really Get them ykwim...... the way they answer each question is so specific to themselves and the topics for each interview is very individualized, so even if you don't have the urge to dissect their brain like i do it's still a very interesting (and visually pleasing) watch! and also ..... the iconic juyeon yellow lambourghini clip is from here. for your own viewing pleasure.

speaking of viewing pleasure. this is very reminiscent of the gen z photoshoots but instead of doing video format interviews they decided to do it through written form instead! here is the thread for all the translations, but a few are missing bc their accounts got deleted :( for the members that got deleted, i found hyunjae's, but i can't find jacob's anywhere :( but basically the entire format of the interviews were that the members would write the interview questions for themselves, and then they'd answer them. i think because of this a lot of them have spoken about how much they liked this interview, because it let them reflect on themselves a lot! they were also a lot more comfortable with this interview compared to gen z because gen z was like ,,, their first time every doing something like this, but with byok the combination of having experience and writing their own questions let them be a lot more relaxed in the process ^^

weekly idol eps to watch: stealer era | thrill ride era

the stealer era episode is just soooo ... JWJSADJFL like they start airing out their dirt on national tv (younghoon and sunwoo get the brunt of it) and for a bonus johnny and haechan from nct are special mcs in this ep! the thrill ride era episode is so cute lolll it shows the individual traits of each member so well... like eric is there being a social butterfly and golden retriever right from the start and then juyeon is just being thrown boyfriend material scripts so he can act them out with hyunjae LMAO it's just a total mess but it's very... them. they have a few other weekly idol eps from other eras so you can definitely check them out too, but personally the stealer and thrill ride eras are my favorites to watch and rewatch ^^

dive studio podcasts: kevin | jacob | eric | english line

this is just a lot of fun to watch! they're definitely a lot less serious than the gen z and byok interviews, but they're still a good insight into how the english members came to become a part of tbz! a lot of fandom jokes come from here (mostly about how eric is friends with his friend's dad, jeff) but overall it's just a good time! they are Just some guys /pos.........

there's another original come on the boyz series but i ... haven't watched it yet so 😭 i can't recommend it in good faith BUT the ones on here are stuff i Have watched and they're all very very cute :") tbz are like 1thek's sons HAHA so they have a lot of 1thek variety content but each one obviously has a different concept to it! they're sorta all in the name but personally my favorite is godsaeng :"") maybe cause it was the most recently filmed (and even though eric was still on hiatus during this time :( ) but it's just soooo fun and all the members are so goofy and lame and it just feels like you're watching a bunch of friends go on a 3d2n road trip together 🥹 the members' personalities really come out in all the installments and the editing is just so funny from the 1thek staff LMAO its just a lot of fun <3

honestly my best advice is to watch those edit/compilation videos that fans make on youtube! they're such a good way to get the best highlights from the vlives without wasting your time with like. 1-2 hour long lives HAHA my recommendations for channels to browse through are jellykims, txtbz, and jichangminluvr! you can probably rabbithole through the yt algorithm from there HAHA you'll have lots of fun i promise <3
