pie maester guy based off the idea of four-and-twenty blackbirds baked into a pie. he writes histories in the pages of phyllo pastry tomes :) will be the lorekeeper/introductory comic guy for the devoured year! I thiiiink the concept originally was pie > spie (spy) but at some point he turned into just a general historian

DAMIEL HYMELOPTERA, Chief Artificer of House Cabbage Alchemist, poisoner & weapons engineer
My character reference for THE DEVOURED YEAR! Plaintext under the cut.
FOOD: Honey AFFILIATION: Vegetania, The Bulbian Church ATTRIBUTES: natural microbial resistance, familiar with the anatomy and physiology of every kind of Caloran there is. Singlemindedly focused on his craft. Deeply asocial.
All his problems are made up inside his head
Is not religious, but has prejudices against Candia that align with sects of the Church.
Freak superiority complex. Has no particular love for any nation, but would rather work in Vegetania amongst devout Bulbians and stand out very obviously as opposed to living in a state of ambiguity, as he felt living in Candia.
Frequent pilferer of corpses. His “business” thrives during the war. Often secretly travels behind envoys to sites of battles to collect new samples.
Does not yearn for titles or land; wishes to conduct his scientific research in peace.
Accidental single mother of two one.
HISTORY: After surviving untouched by the fungal rot that took the lives of his parents, Damiel developed a ruthless interest in all matter of decay. His natural microbial resistance gives him a leg up over other alchemists, allowing him to conduct experiments that would be death sentences to… “weaker” folk. His research afforded him a secure position as chief alchemist working in Brightgarden, supplying soldiers and assassins under the employ of the court and the Church with tools designed to cause irreparable damage to their foes. Prior to the war, he gifted one construct each (who would later become Sir Brutus and Sir Sietric, though he did not care enough to name them at the time) to the nobility of Vegetania and Fructera respectively in an attempt to secure trust in his capabilities. He then promptly moved on with his life, having successfully rid himself of what he viewed as the unintended results of an overgrown lab culture while simultaneously gaining favour in both kingdoms.
Despite his sweet constitution, Damiel does not consider himself Candian and resents being mistaken as such. Born to a Meatlander mother (へぼ, edible wasps) and a Fructeran father (honeydew melon) on the outskirts of Candia, his bitterness derived from growing up culturally alienated from his peers developed into a vicious superiority complex against Candians, whom he views as “unnatural”, “refined” sugars. By the time the whispers of the Ramsian Doctrine were introduced to him (stumbled upon during his frequent forays into researching forbidden texts), he was already ready to commit himself to a cause that could easily swallow him as well. However, having found that some Candians do not tend to rot as easily, he has moved onto workshopping purified water steel technology in hopes of one day creating the perfect tools to dismantle them.

my intro comic for Tylos Flossfey, my The Devoured Year character for a Ravening War OCT! what a mama's boy...
image description:
Page 1 of 6. A mountain goat with flowers and leaves growing out of its fur climbs up the edge of a rock candy mountain, studded with large donuts. It climbs up a mountain and stares across at a rocky ledge, which holds a violet. An arrow points at it, with text reading: Viola Sacchara (sugared violet). The goat huffs determinedly.
Page 2 of 6. The mountain goat leaps across, transforming into a mountain lion, his old form breaking off in crackling shards. It lands on the rocky ledge and transforms into a muscular woman, Tylos, who picks the flower. He sighs, “one down, five more to go.”
Page 3 of 6. As he puts the flower in a pouch, he reminisces. “I never cared much for people. Never thought I’d care enough for someone to risk my life for her.” In a panel is a younger Tylos, feverish and surrounded by sheep as a shepherd off-screen looms over him. “Then again,” he continues to reminisce, “she wasn’t like most people I knew.” The shepherd, a woman named Saimai with fluffy hair who wears simple clothing, is nursing Tylos back to health.
Page 4 of 6. Tylos looks over his shoulder warily as Saimai crouches to speak to him. She says, “I will not deny you your freedom. You clearly ran from society for a good reason, but know my door will always be open.” She continues to speak to Tylos, who looks back at her with a bit more trust. “The forest and fields can be your home, and I will provide whatever I can to maintain your trust.”
Page 5 of 6. Tylos as an adult, who stands with a slight smile as he guards some sheep. He narrates, “I stayed longer than I thought I would. Being able to talk to the sheep happened to be a great help for Miss Saimai, too. I couldn’t help but wonder if this was the parental love I missed out on.” Towards the bottom of the panel, Saimai approaches him, wearing a noticeably bulky scarf, and ruffles his hair affectionately.
Page 6 of 6. Saimai attempts to cover her neck, but it’s revealed that several blemishes are forming on her face. “There’s no time to reminisce,” Tylos narrates, “not when the clock’s ticking.” In a panel surrounded by leaves is a circle cut into six triangles. Each triangle contains a candy, an apple, a carrot, a piece of cheese, a loaf of bread, and a steak, representing each nation of Calorum. “Six nations, six herbs…” Tylos thinks. At the bottom of the panel is Saimai, figuratively disappearing in wisps, as Tylos concludes, “I’ll cross enemy lines to save one disappearing woman.” End description.
