As much as I adore conlangs, I really like how the Imperial Radch books handle language. The book is entirely in English but you're constantly aware that you're reading a "translation," both of the Radchaai language Breq speaks as default, and also the various other languages she encounters. We don't hear the words but we hear her fretting about terms of address (the beloathed gendering on Nilt) and concepts that do or don't translate (Awn switching out of Radchaai when she needs a language where "citizen," "civilized," and "Radchaai person" aren't all the same word) and noting people's registers and accents. The snatches of lyrics we hear don't scan or rhyme--even, and this is what sells it to me, the real-world songs with English lyrics, which get the same "literal translation" style as everything else--because we aren't hearing the actual words, we're hearing Breq's understanding of what they mean. I think it's a cool way to acknowledge linguistic complexity and some of the difficulties of multilingual/multicultural communication, which of course becomes a larger theme when we get to the plot with the Presgar Translators.

Subspace doodles (PHIGHTING! Mermaid au)
so I was thinking more about the PHIGHTING mermaid au I’m doing and. What if subspaces’ gas- instead of being like actual gas, was polluted oil? I think that could make for a really cool trope if I ever were to redesign him for it :3!
For the design notes in specific:
When out of control, his “gas” takes the form of polluted oil, in control (as in wearing his mask and tank) it gets filtered into something akin to toxic brine (in which long exposure to can cause a lot of issues, specifically different types of shock, breathing issues, etc). Although the brine isn’t too dangerous to be around in small amounts, it can be harmful over time.
for those wondering what ACTUAL brine water (or more specifically brine pools) are, it’s pretty much a large accumulation of highly concentrated saltwater (which usually is around 10 times saltier then the ocean surrounding it) For most sea animals this brine means instant death due to the fact that is has no oxygen in it as well as the high saline levels.
(Im hyper fixating again can you tell)

After years and years, I finally got a new phone.
Turns out, it has suggested wallpaper options pulling from your own photos.
...
...yes.
I'm sorry for any embarrassment, Salvatore, but you have to admit it was a good suggestion.
If only our animals knew how many unflattering moments from years prior would go on to gain meme status.

A gimmick which I think would be interesting in a visual novel: small variation in the visual designs of the sprites and backgrounds based on who's narrating a given scene. Not large variations, mostly—buildings are going to have generally the same architecture, people are going to have generally the same outfits, et cetera—but lots of details shifting around on the margins, showing the texture of the characters' thought-processes through the visual design of the world as they see it, rather than only through the text of their narration.
So, for example, one could have one viewpoint character be unusually faceblind, and portray this by having all the sprites have Same-Face Syndrome when viewed from their perspective, even as they hold onto more variation face-wise in everyone else's perspectives. One could have one viewpoint character who's unusually conscious of the fine details of their physical environment, and portray this by drawing the environment-art with much more fiddly detail when in their perspective, showing wood-grain and electrical wiring and other such things which are abstracted away in others' perspectives of the same areas. Et cetera.

took a break from organising life stuff for inferno <3 <3 while doing firefighter outfit research i saw a lot of concepts about ai/3D mapping being used to help firefighters help navigate low/no visibility situations. i love that alot. i also love the idea of red alert hijacking inferno’s headset to Observe Her Wife

freecam being a thing on hermitcraft now is crazy to me because i still remember way back in s6 when grian was first learning to use an elytra and someone gave him the advice to use that + a slow fall potion to get a good view of his base. and now he can just detach his camera and look at it from afar with no problem

Eternally indebted to their Mistress of Sorrow, one bound to heal, preserver of life, the other bound to reap, soother of the last moments, they are both mortal, reincarnating, so that they never forget the peril, the weight and grief of those they are meant to aid.
