They should make a prequel to The Thing that's set on the alien planet, and it's completely different in tone because the flesh-eating, shapeshifting aliens are actually a happy, peaceful society, and it turns out our guy didn't even mean to hurt anyone, that's just how they say hi over there. Like what if they're all like, cute pastel blobs that consume and combine with each other to communicate/relax/mature, like the aliens in the book The Gods Themselves. And the danger isn't contact but lack of contact; aliens who get separated from the others die from loneliness, like the wall shadows in the movie Pulse. I don't think you could pull this off for a whole movie but maybe an animated short...or maybe it would only work as a book馃

Here鈥檚 a glamour shot of the copy of The Gods Themselves borrowed from the library for the stream.
Here鈥檚 hoping the librarians find The Left Hand of Darkness. For now we can read off an ebook, and one will check on the status of the hold request during some business hours.
