always find it interesting to discover which teams/players/aspects of hockey people who aren't fans of it are aware of

today i was chatting with my friend who is from new jersey and she mentioned that she knew of "that jack guy" because she'd heard people getting excited (see: thirsting) over him

i don't know if this is the case in north america, but hockey seems to be quite insular in the sense that there is less general knowledge about it than there is about other major team sports

i'm from the uk and before getting into hockey i could name a bunch of players from all of the big four leagues except the nhl

literally the only hockey player i could name was gretzky and i only knew some team names because of trivia reasons

one of the minor yet inconvenient part of having a dysfunctional family is trying to get in touch with them and having to go on a wild goose chase because i dont know what name my uncle is going by.

theres three likely contenders for last name and five contenders for first name, including one i dont particularly want to search because it was a nickname he got growing up in the 70s and 80s.

I found out that my grandad had a fly tattoo on his shoulder and now i am definitely getting one in the same place.. i just got a bunch of ants tattooed crawling up my leg and itll fit in my theme of me being covered in bugs

u know... i view historical complaints about "favouritism" and "factionalism" with a lot of scepticism. it always seems to start with someone in the nobility who expects to be handed power and wealth not being in the in-group (how shocking!) and getting mad about it and protesting that of course they should be the one with influence over the monarch, it's what they deserve and some unnatural perversion of society and politics must be taking place if they aren't being given the best job by virtue of having been born. how dare the current monarch choose someone else! how dare they have gone with someone they liked more or thought was more skilled or were more eager to fuck?

i mean, to me this all seems really blatant but people still keep repeating it like it's definitely objective fact and not just whining from otherwise influential members of the nobility who find themselves temporarily unpopular. what's that about? is this another of those "yes i shall take what the rich and powerful say at face value" things? even when the writer is able to see through this nonsense at other times? it bothers me.

university update?

i think i made more friends but idk if we’re actually friends or if they were just being nice because i was sitting alone

they’re also maybe like the exact opposite of me and that’s a little scary because i was ready to just live a secluded little life with minimal social interaction that isn’t about school work or assignments. but they seem like pretty nice people? possibly??? we will have to wait and see, i think i’ll see them again tomorrow
