I should have known I was screwed the first time I described to my parents that I had slipped/dislodged/etc some soft tissue in my back while doing a routine task and was having terrible pain and muscle spasms from it.

And they both went, "Oh YEAH, I hate when that happens, have a heating pad about it," instead of being confused and upset.

to my great chagrin he doesn't and that's why i need to talk about it because i found the perfect middle point between 'vigilante having body mods is stupid if they want to keep their identity safe from their hero persona' and 'body mods are hot, my favs deserve them' which is having ones easily hidden. i think jason would get body mods as a way to find ownership over his body after the years of coma, catatonic state, lazarus dip, and then intense training without regard for his self, the usual 'lets stick needles in to assert to myself i own this flesh and it is mine to do with as i please and not just a tool to use' but with the added bonus that jason is good at what he does and careful, there's a reason he keeps that helmet on at all time and i dont think hes stupid enough to get a tattoo on the wrist that can be seen if things go wrong, same for piercing, so the easy solution is to give him piercing that are hard to see, easily removed, or not conspicuous

hence the tongue, it's relatively easy to hide even without the helmet, and if taken out you cant see the scar until directly staring at the pulled-out tongue. body piercing too, ones hidden behind clothes at all time are free to go too, a horseshoe piercing in the septum that can be tucked in the nostrils, piercing in the folds of the ear like a daith or rook if its far enough inside the ear, ones where, if taken out, the hole/scar can't be seen as easily as a helix or tragus for example. lobe piercings are good too because they are pretty common so easy to look over and dismiss. that's why i rule out facial piercings, too easy to recognize and also hazardous in fights if he loses the helmet. although i do like the idea of him having an eyebrow scar because he ripped out the piercing while in his training years and learned the hard way not to have things easy to pull on in fights (and why piercings inside the ears rather than on the edge)
