And so I cry sometimes when I'm lying in bed Just to get it all out what's in my head And I, I'm feeling a little peculiar And so I wake in the morning and I step outside And I take a deep breath and I get real high And I scream from the top of my lungs "What's going on?"

JOMP BPC - May 15th - Time Period
I’m not a big fan of historical fiction but I love reading books set in the 1990s, especially about queer kids living in the 90s, because it helps me contextualise some of my experiences growing up as a queer kid in the 2000s and 2010s. I’d highly recommend these three 💖

Title: The Miseductation of Cameron Post
Author: Emily M. Danforth
Page length: 485
Synopsis: When Cameron Post's parents die suddenly in a car crash, her shocking first thought is relief. Relief they'll never know that, hours earlier, she had been kissing a girl. But that relief doesn't last, and Cam is soon forced to move in with her conservative aunt Ruth and her well-intentioned but hopelessly old-fashioned grandmother. She knows that from this point on, her life will forever be different. Survival in Miles City, Montana, means blending in and leaving well enough alone (as her grandmother might say), and Cam becomes an expert at both. Then Coley Taylor moves to town. Beautiful, pickup-driving Coley is a perfect cowgirl with the perfect boyfriend to match. She and Cam forge an unexpected and intense friendship--one that seems to leave room for something more to emerge. But just as that starts to seem like a real possibility, ultrareligious Aunt Ruth takes drastic action to "fix" her niece, bringing Cam face-to-face with the cost of denying her true self--even if she's not exactly sure who that is.

We both knew the knock was coming. We heard the footsteps stop outside Irene’s door, but there was empty time between the end of those steps and the heavy rap of his knuckles: ghost time. Mr. Klauson standing there, waiting, maybe holding his breath, just like me. I think about him on the other side of that door all the time, even now. How I still had parents before that knock, and how I didn’t after. Mr. Klauson knew that too; how he had to lift his calloused hand and take them away from me at eleven p.m. one hot night at the end of June - summer vacation, root beer and stolen bubble gum, stolen kisses - the very good life for a twelve-year-old, when I still had mostly everything figured out, and the stuff I didn’t know seemed like it would come easy enough if I could just wait for it, and anyway there’d always be Irene with me, waiting too.

I like how Cameron mentions the hyprocrisy in her christian community throughout the book, homosexuality is a sin and a sickness that needs to be preached out of you but not premarital sex that her aunt was doing huh.
The book is simply a nice 470 pages of a constant notalgic feeling that feel all too relateble whether you were born during that time period or not. It handles grief and exploration organically. And it all comes from a place of personal experience. I was less invested in the third act compared to the first two. And the ending albeit a spiritual way for Cameron to cope with her parents death and her trauma, it felt lackluster and rushed.
