i used to go to yard sales with my grandmother a lot the last year before college. she got company and i got to drive a car (illegally, i wasn't 16 yet and had no license, but this was a small town and obviously i wasn't driving crazy with grandma in the car!) and we had a good time (she was quite capable of driving but it was a good excuse for both of us)
this wasn't her only "bad influence" on me, she taught me to play rummy at 10 and we used to play for a dime per hand... until i'd get way behind and she'd suggest "double or nothing?" with this knowing grin. she always made me pay up if i came out behind and i think she taught me something about gambling (with money at least) because i've never had issues with that
anyways
at one yard sale i found a stack of old 78's. now you've certainly heard of LP's because they're hip - as in, vinyl records. LP means "long playing" (both sides fit an entire album! unless it takes two of course). longer than what? 45's and 78's.
LP's were 33's. that means 33 rpm - the records spin at 33 revolutions every minute. 45's spin at 45 per, and were typically used for singles (they'd release an inexpensive small format record with just one song on each side, and these are what were in juke boxes - automated record players you could put a quarter into and have it play some music at the diner).
78's spin really fast, so fast that the entire LP-sized record holds less than half as much as the... much longer playing LP.
so i found a stack of 78's that were already old then, and they were a production of
Water is transparent, tasteless, odourless and virtually colourless. It is vital for all known forms of life and covers over 70% of the Earth’s surface. We use it in cooking and washing and, along with ice and snow, it is central to many sports and other forms of entertainment such as swimming, fishing, diving and skiing. Unsurprisingly, its also been a source of inspiration to composers for…
I used Shazam to discover My Country, JB 1:112: II. The Moldau by Leopold Stokowski. https://www.shazam.com/track/565230978/my-country-jb-1112-ii-the-moldau?referrer=share
My beautiful Prague. Charles Bridge is the most popular area for vendors hoping to catch the attention of summer tourists as they make their way through the “Old Town” toward the Prague castle.
Am Grunde der Moldau wandern die Steine
Es liegen drei Kaiser begraben in Prag.
Das Große bleibt groß nicht und klein nicht das Kleine.
Die Nacht hat zwölf Stunden, dann kommt schon der Tag.
On the bottom of the Vltava, the stones wander
Three emperors lie buried in Prague.
The grand does not stay grand, the small does not stay small.
The night is twelve hours long, that's how soon the day begins.
Es wechseln die Zeiten. Die riesigen Pläne
Der Mächtigen kommen am Ende zum Halt.
Und gehn sie einher auch wie blutige Hähne
Es wechseln die Zeiten, da hilft kein Gewalt.
Times change. The giant plans
Of the powerful come to a halt in the end.
And even if they walk about like bloody roosters
Times change, no violence helps against that.
0ghost is a project run by Janosch Moldau and his soulmate Martin Schubert. With 0ghost both musicians go on a journey dedicated to find an equilibrium between the machine code and the fragileness of human sounds. The 0ghost microcosm of Moldau’s and Schubert's new tracks is deeply rooted within the machine code but also blends back the human factor into the macrocosm of modern electronic music.
