My first album as Prophetic Nightmares, Lake Zero, is a little over three years old now.
It's really strange to think about. When I made that album I was on the cusp of coming out and transitioning. I hadn't quite yet. All I wanted to do with my work was to tell a story of some kind through sound.
I suppose I still do that. But, it's not something fictional anymore.
Prophetic Nightmares is about me. What and how I feel, who I am. It's been a way to express myself sonically for the past three years. And I've loved every second of it.
I tried to get this album on the dark ambient record label Cryo Chamber. Simon, or Atrium Carceri (or Sabled Sun), politely declined. He said it was not for their channel.
And you know what? I'm glad he said no. Because after he did I didn't limit myself to the confines of genre or what other people will think of my work.
I was able to be completely and unapologetically me!
Ever seen someone lipsync an entire song underwater?
Edit: I should have added more context. This is Rose the Mermaid performing at Blue Zoo Aquariums.
The song is from Morgan Clae, who is just as beautifully intense out of the water as Rose is in it. She's performing a part for Epic: The Musical, which is about Odysseus.
Jorge Rivera-Harrans has been crowdsourcing the cast for a while now by asking them to sing along to the backing tracks. Wild way to audition; hundreds of people will see you regardless.
The song involving Athena was also pretty popular a while back, so it's been pretty fun.
Water is transparent, tasteless, odourless and virtually colourless. It is vital for all known forms of life and covers over 70% of the Earth’s surface. We use it in cooking and washing and, along with ice and snow, it is central to many sports and other forms of entertainment such as swimming, fishing, diving and skiing. Unsurprisingly, its also been a source of inspiration to composers for…
Instead of telling men to repress their emotions to appear stronger we should encourage them to sing incredibly dramatic ballads to process their emotions like in fictional movies. Maybe the world would heal faster. And also it would be very funny.
Vanuatu, originally named New Hebrides, is believed to have been first inhabited by people over 3300 years ago. It's a land of tribal dancing, cannibalism and more...
Animatic for Hama of the Water Tribe, Bloodbender, after she frees herself from the Fire Nation prison.
Music by Jorge Rivera-Herrans - Get in the Water, from EPIC the Musical, song cover by Morgan Clae
[Video Description:
Get in the water: Hama faces a Fire Nation soldier at the beach under the light of a full moon. Face tired, almost impassive, she tells him to get in the water.
Tides so high: She reaches her hand up to the moonlit sky and the waves of the sea around her start to roil.
Her actions in time with the music, she threatens and bloodbends the soldier to step closer to the sea. He shouts no, and Hama sends a wall of water up around them. Hama forces him to kneel and sends the water over the soldier, and the final shots are from his POV as the water rises and covers his vision. ]
