(there will still be a post tomorrow to keep on track)#The original 3 panel comic idea was fine but the point of this new schedule was to take time to push myself a bit more.#I was taking a look back through some comic artists I felt inspired by #and I really loved how Lynda Barry fills her gutters with patterns and doodles!#Obviously I'm not going as absolutely wild with it as she does but it was a great exercise!#I truly think the gutters are the most important and most overlooked part of any comic. There's lots going on in that space.#It's the same with timeskips. The implied movement between moments that we don't see changes depending on how wide that gap is #You're here for the funny tags so here's some that ties this time talk together:#I think LWJ was thinking about that second note from day 2 but it took him 7 days of hazing to commit it to paper.#I think he sends it a day later and immediately regrets it. Chasing down the messenger and everything.#You know if something actually happened to his brother he would never ever forgive himself for putting the bad vibes out there.#Third time skip was the hardest because there was so many possible flavours of jokes here. Day 8/9 was a personal favourite.#day 14 was also funny (week by week). I think the debate on 'how long does lwj take to catch feelings' is more or less:#'how long does it take for him to arrive at a particular stage of grief and yearning (and awareness of it all)#This is a symphony. There is an act by act structure. Every day he is fighting to keep his old sensibilities. He is losing so badly.#(I'll be returning to the main comic soon but there is more of this AU to come!)

learning to draw sonic characters for. reasons

they're so hard for me to draw their proportions are so different from how i draw anthros so i have to fight my own muscle memory ;-; this is my first somewhat successful attempt out of... a few (read: too many)

#my art #boruto naruto next generations #sarada uchiha #shikadai nara #inojin yamanaka #in no particular order except sarada is my fav- i think she shouldve been main focus- girl brings all of og team 7 together at all times #just her family history alone is very interesting and i WISH we had seen a convo with sausage boi about her uncle and just everything #but shes a pretty solid character on her own- VERY good mix of both parents yet still being her own self #shikadai is funny i really like seeing him- hes a sight for sore eyes- bro got EVERYTHING from his dad minus his eyes and maybe hair #his dynamic with boruto being besties is really fun to watch- sarada too- with both shika and sara being geniuses and all #i love inojin's simplicity and how ordinary he is.... its... realistic?#hes artistically talented yes with his ninja art stuff but everything else hes kinda... mundane? at times even bad?#Considering every other prev gen child's got all these cool stuff goin on- i like that hes just... kinda normal... i like that about him #boruto i actually do like as well- he'd make a GREAT support character- i love how big bro he is and how he wants to stand up for others #hes a lot like naruto in that way- and might be a hot topic to say this but i also like how - in his very first arc- boruto hates the hokag #not his dad but internalized that the job took his dad away from him- regardless on criticism i think that concept is really neat #i am not well versed in what the story is now for boruto- ive just kinda picked my snacks on what i wanna watch lmao #but i do wish there was more showings of slice of life for all the kids- cuz they are all really interesting- especially for prev gen's kid #>>wished they did timetravel arc with sarada so we coulda seen young sasuke & sakura interact with boruto and sarada T_T #one last note: borusara is very interesting- but i actually prefer them just being friends- at most friends with crushes on eachother #i do think its cute but i like the dynamic of it being unrequited idk its new for me i just prefer them as friends with crushes lmao #prob cuz they work as characters independently Im not really interested in ANY of the new gen hookin up- borusara is the most interesting #i mean it IS the ONLY one being pushed canonically but i like it- that boruto looks out for sarada and sarada worries for boruto #but ya i wish boruto was like mitsuki in being a side character - i think a LOT more people will find him less annoying that way #though- i REALLY want more sarada and sasuke dynamics being shown- actually the uchiha fam a TON more than what we got #they are just SUPER interesting to me lmao #im a sucker for the emo boy turns soft and has family and bonds with their kids- its one of my favourite things in media #i feel like scraping the ocean floor when im trying to find quality sasuke and sarada art pieces and story stuff #cuz ive exhausted all the content in these past what 2-3 years of knowing both boruto- and now more recently - naruto #(yes im one of those people who knew boruto before naruto- smite me)

YHS College (University) AU I posted on Twitter a while ago and am now posting here!

I had so much fun coming up with this AU Oml, originally it just started out with me wanting to give Sam a fun outfit, thinking like, ‘well, college in movies is supposed to be like, all about self-discovery and doing new things so’ and wallah there was Sam! Then I realised if I’m drawing Sam, I should draw the others right?

Grian’s outfit was pretty simple and not too far from canon, a lot of contrast against Sam’s very very different styling, but I think of Grian as a nerdy kind of dark academia type?? Probably using that wrong but still - he’s trying to move past his parents but it’s all he really knows

Taurtis I wanted to draw kind of sceney - similar to himself but still different so you can tell it’s not really him but him from another universe - same but changed, i’ve kind of forgotten most of my thought process on him haha

Then I really got into thinking about the lore aspect - should it just be an au where nothing went wrong or should I drive off of canon? And after some thinking I went into the latter, Tokyo soul, world ended but with some convincing Sam managed to get Cthulhu to go back in time and have the world not end, they graduate, and they get into university with some cool new powers.

Powers I gave to them based on what I think Sam would want - since he’s cthulhu’s favourite (unless I’m remembering wrong LOL but it’s my au so whatevs!!) - Sam has future vision so he can make sure to prevent the world from ever ending again, Grian is alien-esc due to that one scene where his mic messes up and they play into it and say he was taken over by an alien/angst reasons you could say he doesn’t need to breathe anymore so he can eat chip packaging easier, Taurtis is near invincible so Sam doesn’t have to feel the guilt of stabbing/losing him again, and because Sam and Grian’s Taurtis is dead.

Chan was kind of a last minute add-on decision, but I wanted to add someone else from the og cast and I thought it’d made an interesting plot line if chan remembered Taurtis but he didn’t even know her/ especially with the witness protection program and her having thought the main three were dead or missing

At the start of this project all I wanted was to 'learn how to draw' using comics as a medium and the MDZS audio drama as inspiration.

I've come *very* far from making simple, 3 panel black and white comics, and I truly do intend to go even further. Thank you to everyone who cheered me on throughout 2023, it has been an incredible year in so many ways I never could have imagined. I look forwards to drawing throughout 2024 B*)

#poorly drawn mdzs #art summary #It's so interesting looking back at how my style and technique changed throughout the year!#I used PD-wwx as the consistent factor (October is an exception) and you can see so many processes going on.#My little petri dish amoeba (with a little red bow to tell him apart from the other amoeba) <3 #Whether it's getting new markers or trying out a new shading style - it's cool seeing a snapshot of my journey like this B*)#There's certainly been a slower curve to my overt improvement *but* I have become so much faster!#My life outside of drawing has been hectic and at several points extremely stressful this year. For all the work this blog has been-#-It has truly been a life saving anchor when the darkest of times have hit.#Love is hard work. Change is even harder work. Sticking to a goal I set out for myself and striving to keep going was worth it.#And I love drawing. I think there has always been something in me that longed for this. And it is finally tangible! I can draw!!!#I wanted to make a more elaborate year reflection where I looked back at my favourite comics and jokes.#but I'll leave that to the one year anniversary.#I have also been collecting a ton of statistics throughout the year and I am desperate to share them. question: how did you discover/get into scooby doo?

this is something i'm always so interested to hear, being that there are few people who don't have at least some small tie to the franchise. whether you would consider it one of your biggest current interests or it's just something nostalgic from your childhood, i'd love to know how you found scooby and what it means to you!

#for me it was my dad! he grew up with the original show and wanted to introduce it to me #so one day when i was maybe? seven?? he came home with the winter wonderdog dvd and we watched it that night #from there we watched every single scooby doo movie that had ever been made #and got the new ones as they came out in subsequent years!#watching a new scooby movie with my dad every weekend are honestly some of my favourite childhood memories #also what's new scooby doo had also started airing on one of the main cartoon channels here in the uk around 2010 #so that's the show i watched the most consistently as a kid #velma was my original favourite of the gang because i looked a lot like her (big glasses/same haircut/etc.)#people would always compare me to her and it genuinely gave me a lot of confidence in my appearance that stays with me to this day #but fred was always my firm second favourite - he made me laugh the most of any character #and took on a deeper meaning to me in my adolescence when i realised i was autistic and strongly identified with his portrayals as such #the characters are probably what's kept me coming back all this time - they've been with me forever #and i love them individually + as a team who support each other with their unique skills and love for one another #but also the wacky adventures and general aesthetic #many people joke about the basic plot being the same every time but it makes my autistic brain happy #i love permanence and consistency baby!!!!!#and the different variations on that same formula always keep things fresh and fun #anyway ramble over #looking forward to hearing you guys' responses! :D #scooby doo #nem misc posts :]

#akkdlflf i watched this long lecture video abt austrian national identity and the researcher said 'the austrians are quite adept at #selling the austro hungarian monarchy back to tourists incl ones from former parts of the empire... but even in the imperial nostalgia they #don't want back multilingualism or multiculturalism or any of what it actually was'#(it was a lot abt the way in which austria deals with orban's hungary in and after the 2015 refugee crisis)#ajskgldo and that just made me think about... how pointless some things feel. both in fiction and in academic research #you CAN say meaningful things about almost any topic and with almost any argument! but in some strands of history trying to 'uncover events'#with no exploration of the context and what it all MEANS and what the things we think about it mean #is the most prevalent and popular type of research :/ like there's a reason i overrely on hamann's bio of rudolf because her central thesis #is that he wasnt a crazy murderer but someone with a forward-thinking political vision that went as far as suggesting a sort of 'proto-EU'#among other things #so like. she is looking at what it all MEANS!!!#and like. my favourite todolf fanfics are also like that 😂😭 perhaps not abt politics but about suffering and power dynamics and guilt #same for original fiction. i'm never happy if a book i'm reading isnt saying something #or then again - this is more personal pickiness but. they should also be saying something NEW AND INTERESTING #a lot of the time. sometimes if you have a fave trope you can just enjoy it over and over #but idk even tropey stuff can say things #ajlsldkfkf i'm just so tired of kitsch in all its forms and also of bad science

#im gonna pretend mattie didnt die and visits them sometimes back in toronto #it's such a cute dynamic they have #the two evil (affectionate) sisters who just loving teasing laura #also one of my favourite things abt this show is the choreographing they do for the static camera #i bet it's so annoying to have to think about but i love watching them all move so coordinatedly through the frame #somehow still making it look natural #also i know laura is the storyteller one and i dont really know enough abt romanticism to make any definitive claims abt carmilla #but having scrolled her blog a bit to figure out her tastes in music and art #i wonder if theres a part of carmilla that kind of enjoys being starcrossed. or doomed in a sense #or maybe she that she wouldnt have CHOSEN this story necessarily but that she has resigned herself to it #on account of her vampire nature #and sees a certain beauty in it #that all her romances are doomed #idk. im still figuring her out #also im reinterpreting that exchange mattie and carmilla have in this scene #carmilla calls mattie a utilitarian which is probably right #mattie then callls her a nihilist and carmilla corrects that to existentialist #and mattie says absurdist at best #but those arent designations like back and forth as i had read it before #it's just carmillas philosophy theyre arguing about. i THINK. or maybe it's both of them #putting a pin in that until ive read more books #also kind of obsessed with how laura and danny and maybe the other humans are so quick to ascribe a morality to the vampires #based just on the 'shes a vampire!!' while obviously by necessity the vampires have spent wayyyyyyyyyy more time thinking abt their ethics #or maybe not by necessity for all of them but to mattie and carmilla it definitely seems like a necessity. or inevitability #they mustve spent countless hours over the centuries talking abt this if they can joke abt it in this way now #and in different states too like i can imagine distraught Im A Monster type conversations but also just sort of academic debates and also #carmilla reading some new book that has come out and mattie being like what newfangled thing are you into now #i guess utilitarianism was also newfangled at some point. theyre both older. but you know #carmilla is a poet. dont know if she writes poetry but she looks at things in a poet's way i think #also dont think shes entirely a romantic but i do think some of her tastes lean more toward the romantic
