Far away is the smiling optimistic Luz of season one, she's now fully broken :(

The worst part is that she achieved all of her goals. She wanted to become a witch, to have true friends, to find a way to the Human Realm, to ask Amity out and to stop Belos and the day of Unity. She managed to get all of that, but in the end she lost a part of herself.

You know what's great about Owl House's 2nd episode 'Witches Before Wizards'? It mirrors the pattern of the whole show:

Luz wanted to become a witch, to be seen as someone of value and to be never looked down again. Eda tells her she need to learn that the hard way, without relying on an already made up path. But Luz will search an easier way to be the hero of her story. By doing so, she'll get tricked and will loose her optimism. She'll be saved by those who truly care about her, and also those who struggled in life before (insert Eda, Willow, Gus, Amity, King)

Every obstacle she encountered made her learn a valuable lesson. But every time, she lost some of her smile, of her joy. She lost the happy Luz she was before. She sharpened and closed herself, and I don't think she'll ever be the same as before.

Honestly, it breaks my heart.

However you interpret it, Luz and Hunter’s relationship is very special to me.

Because Luz is the first to express interest in hunter’s life (asking what his motivation was for joining the emperor’s coven) and concern for his well being. Even though they start out as enemies, it’s plain to see by now that Luz cares if Hunter is okay. Not the only one, obviously, but most likely the first, for a long time at least.

I think what truly makes Luz Hunter’s first friend is how much she cares. And I think the moment he fully accepts that is when he addresses her by her name instead of “human” for the first time.

Owl House Season 2 Spoilers Ahead

Been a while since I posted anything about TOH so here it goes. Belos' age is listed as 350+. Okay so maybe + 5, 10 years? The Owl House Takes place in 2020, which means Phillip Whittebane would have been born in the mid to late 1660s in Gravesfield CT.

That means he grew up in New England during the latter half of the 1600s when witch trials were in full swing, even before Salem. I feel dumb that I had to hear him actually announce what he actually was in "Hollow Mind" for me to start making these connections. But all that background tracks considering his true nature.
