I watched The Postcard Killings on a whim recently and I was not at all expecting the incest between the adopted brother/sister serial killer duo. Loved that, at the end, the main detective guy remarked that the duo could've just lived a happy life together instead of going on a killing spree to declare their love, since they weren't even blood related anyway, haha. The things we do for love 😅
Love the main detective's casual attitude!
I didn't know there was adopted bro/sis incest in this. Thanks so much for the info!

The Postcard Killings (2020)
dir. Danis Tanović
Star rating: 1.5/5
spoilers under the cut
it's very rare for a movie to be so bad that i wouldn't rewatch it, but somehow The Postcard Killings did that. i was pretty excited for this!! im a huge fan of crime thrillers, and after i watched Se7en i was itching for something in the genre. this movie not only was boring, it also made me... mad???
i am a huge fan of Jeffrey Dean Morgan and i think he did SUCH a great job during this movie (as usual, all of his performances i've liked) but his character was very shallow and made little to no sense. he plays a detective whose daughter was brutally murdered in London by a couple known as the Postcard Killers. not only does JDM's character not have any reason to work with the police, as he is an AMERICAN cop and not a London cop, but later in the movie he gets given a GUN!!! after he has shown he is unstable and WILL kill the suspects if given the chance.
i guess now that we're on the topic of the suspects, i do like the way they're framed at the beginning -- a couple traveling when they meet a sketchy guy, but turns out HES not the killer, THEY are. that's the only good thing i can say about these two. as the movie went on, i started loathing any screentime they had. any scene without JDM i really didn't like, unless it was one with Famke Janssen who is in this movie??? for some reason???
anyways, back to the couple who... i guess i have to say this, are actually brother and sister. and the reason they kill is because they want the world to understand their love... gross!!! i saw the twist of them being siblings from a mile away, but i did NOT guess they would ACTUALLY BE LOVERS... they're also so young??? i don't understand how they could kill in such intricate ways and be this young... it seems like they would have had longer experience, but i guess now.
the kills are very cool and interesting, i also don't think the gore is half bad!! i'm always a huge fan of creativity in murder, so that's the only props i'll give to the movie. it doesn't excuse the weird/out of place choices of dialogue, or the very VERY choppy slow motion. i do not get when movies use choppy, low frame rate, slowmo. it never looks good. the color also doesn't look good but i can't really pinpoint why??? also, there's a scene where JDM is facetiming Jean Grey (i literally don't know JDM's or Famke Janssen's characters's names) but Jean Grey is... on the phone?? WHAT lmao. (unless i totally misread the scene)
in my notes for this movie, i wrote "if this ends with JDM either dying or killing [the suspects], this movie gets one star" and guess what, he sure did shoot one of them! i forget whether the one he shot (the brother) dies or not, so extra half a star for only trying to kill one of them. oh well.
choices were made for sure!
